What's new

Pakistan should not boycott the T20I World Cup 2026

Naqvi is an idiot if he thinks Pakistan will allow him to take the team out of the World Cup. Once again he is using this issue to build his own social currency with the regime. Without a doubt one of the most dim-witted and mentally incompetent people to ever become PCB chairman, and that's saying something because we had Ijaz Butt.

I genuinely hope Pakistan boycotts. It is not because I dont want to see them play or enjoy Ind v Pak game but to teach a lesson to its TV experts like Sikandar Bakht. He is saying ICC will suffer huge loss if Pakistan pulls out. I just want to test this theory. It is high time this myth and bravado gets busted
They have a habit of overestimating their pull. There will be absolutely no financial impact at all. Their PPP is pathetic, their views don't translate into any significant revenue, plus players that Indians actually want to see play are all playing.

Financial loss is not an issue. It will not affect India. The boycott will make this WC controversial and create divisions.India started using sports as a political weapon so other countries should do the same.
Sports has always been used as a political weapon. America does it to Russia, Arabs and Muslim nations do it to Israel whenever they can, you did it to us in the 90's. Point is, don't act so shocked and awed for something that's been happening since time immemorial.

The Pakistan-Bangladesh Cricket Council aka PBCC is going to set the status quo for world cricket going forward, ICC days are numbered.

Need one more recruit into this faction. Who will be the mystery pick?
Take Myanmar. BD needs a rival to showcase their dancing skills.

BCCI/ ICC don't care about the merit of the argument with respect to security. That much is blatantly clear.
Oh bhai chill out.

Pakistan will not play in India. If the ICC don’t want to buy it they are free to organise the tournament without them with Pakistan not having any legal consequences.

Anyways, Dekhi jaye ghy in 2029

This is why I want Pakistan to boycott. Only then they will realise their true aukaat

Just like they found out after 2009 IPL boycott !

“PAKISTAN WORLD CUP SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT EXPECTED TOMORROW

Director High Performance and member Men’s national selection committee Aqib Javed, Head Coach Pakistan White ball team Mike Hesson and Pakistan's T20I Captain Salman Ali Agha will address a press conference on Sunday”

There is no circus. The vote in favor of the world cup to go ahead as decided was 14-2. Only 2 boards are causing the circus.
None of this would've happened had Indian Govt not pandered to its rabid far right base by pressuring BCCI to exclude Mustafizur from IPL under the nonsense pretence of "solidarity" with Bangladeshi Hindus.

I guess the lives of Afghanistan's Hindus (the few that are left after the Taliban's genocide) don't have as much value seeing as though Afghan cricketers are set to welcomed with open arms once again. Where's the solidarity for them ?

India began this circus and now its cyberarmy, with their North Korean-esque devotion to parroting the official script, are pulling Pikachu faces in shock now that a clown show has developed.

The subcontinent shouldn't host a flea market let alone an ICC event in the next 5 years minimum.

The alternative would be to do away with ICC.

Go back to bilaterals at will. Tournament participation is based on an invite and not a right. Thats another way avoid a lot of these issues.

Wo to Bangladesh ne bhi announced kiya tha !!!

But Pakistan I don't think they will boycott.

:klopp :kp

Bangladesh overplayed their hand. They thought ICC would bluff but they miscalculated. Ofcourse it helps that they didn't have a high probability of getting past the first round anyway but I'm not sure how much this entire drama accomplished.

The simple reality is that India control the sport of cricket and whether we like it or not they are going to use it to project whatever little power they have. Does it show small-mindedness? yeah. But you have to understand that India right now is under the grip of Hindu nationalists who get off with these types of supposed wins - showing Bangladesh their place, using cricket to project power against Pakistan even when the whole world knows what actually happened with their jets and all. Because this is pretty much the only place where they can do that. Sad state of affairs but this is where we are. I'm sure alot of Indian posters will get mad seeing this post but tbh I don't care. If you appease/defend far-right Hindu nationalists then maybe you need to introspect before pointing fingers at others. There was a time when I looked at India with envy. Being the largest democracy in the world and a country whose constitution was founded on the ideals of secularism and liberalism. I wanted Pakistan to be like India in certain ways. But that is longer the case. Everything has gone to the dogs, so to speak. India may still be a powerful and growing economy but it has completely dumped those ideals.

Only thing I would say to the cricket boards is that don't do the same stuff they are doing. Alot of posters got mad at me when I said that Bangladesh shouldn't boycott the World Cup because once you get involved in this political nonsense you are putting yourself in the same pig pen as the other party. Pakistan did the same thing during theAsia Cup. Just don't indulge in this nonsense... hold yourself to a higher standard. I know what I'm saying will fall on deaf ears because South Asian people (in my experience) are very mentally immature and nationalistic, but whatever. This is what I think and idgaf what anyone else thinks. Its a travesty that it had to come to this. A test playing nation thrown out of an ICC tournament because one country didn't want to give an inch when it comes to projecting their power. Its called small d**k syndrome and when you have a small d**k you need to overcompensate in some way I guess

Bangladesh didn't want to be in India. Everything else is irrelevant.

No country should be forced to visit another country over a lousy Indian sport like cricket. Cricket is simply not that important.

So, Bangladesh definitely didn't overplay or underplay anything.

Bangladesh must also refuse to come to India for 2029 CT (if they qualify) or any other bilateral commitment, such as - WTC.

No cricket should be played in India indefinitely. :inti

What will happen to 2031 joint world cup between India and Bangladesh

I’m not sensing good vibes from him.

He’s clearly a nationalist pompous egocentric man who will pull this move if he senses that the awaam is backing the decision!
he is clown

whats with pressers without decision? he could have consulted with Govt and then announced the decision. He pulled Similar stunts in Asia cup during handshake row.

Many people care.

Who are you to say otherwise? You can say that you, and some Indians don't care. Don't speak for everyone.

@Dr_Bassim thinks really highly of himself. He even put "Dr" in his nickname. ROFL. :qdkcheeky

I have never seen a person adding Dr to a forum username.

Dear @Dr_Bassim, some people care and some people do not care. You need to learn how to digest different views. :inti

Perfect way for Pakistan to get revenge from Bangladesh for their treachery, humiliation of the PCB and Pakistani Cricket from 2009 to 2025 😂

No one needs to sue Pakistani government when all that needs to be done is to take away PCB's share of ICC handouts.

No handouts = No PCB
you are gravely mistaken on that count al though i do agree Pak should play the wc.

PSL generates enough money in Franchise Annual fee for PCB to sit comfortable without ICC share ( not a handout )

With two new teams auctioned off in PSL and Multan will be up for sale in coming days , PCB is well set to make well over 25 Million $ each year in Franchise fee . So if Indians think PCB will starve off , think again

Huh?

Bangladesh just didn't want to be in India. They got what they wanted. From Day 1, it was either move games out of India or withdraw. BD decided to withdraw.

Regarding treachery, those were from previous regime. Current regime is much different. :inti

Cricket is just a sport. Missing one World Cup is not a big deal. West Indies missed 2 in recent times.

He has made some weird posts about mice, lions and other Tom and Jerry stuff, to mock Bangladesh's attempts to seek justice.

Who cares if Australia plays T20 world cup? Mitchell Marsh walked around wearing his winners medal after landing in Australia, nobody cared. Does anyone care if New Zealand plays? Who cares about Italy?

Something is clearly not right. Perhaps he is a Dr of Ayurvedic medicine.

I don’t understand what’s wrong with Mohsin Naqvi? This is not your fight! There is no need to give these bombastic statements in the media invoking government involvement!

India went ahead and still played the Asia cup under your leadership after Bunyan al Marsoos. They got on with cricket and business. Yes their behaviour was $hit but they fulfilled their obligation!

You’ve done well to make this World Cup a co-host program and have all your matches in Sri Lanka. They have been fair in accommodating PCB/Pakistan. Do not be stupid and backtrack due to a matter that has none of your concern!

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY stood up for Pakistan in its years of exile since 2009! Everyone went ahead and got their money! What is the need for Pakistan to become this hero all of a sudden??

Just let it go! Do not be stupid and make this about your bloody ego!

We shouldn't boycott the world cup because we are otherwise gonna win with this asia cup squad.

Speaking truth does not make you any type of appeaser.

Tomorrow if Australia rules cricket or heck even Bangladesh rules cricket, I would call Bangladesh lions and India mice.

Stop taking stuff to heart.

Accept the truth.

Bangladesh is a nobody in cricket and there is no point for speck of water to dance in the ocean.

He is sometimes speaking as home minister.

Sometimes as chairman PCB.

Infront of home ministry, PCB is a minor detail.

Same as Jay Shah who mainly speaks for Indian home ministry, sometimes chairman ICC. You think this drama would have happened if a gora was in charge of ICC? It was to appease Indian domestic audience for his father's ministry.

There will be a major alignment between Pakistan and Bangladesh if Bangladeshi elections go as expected. Our leadership will be happy to sacrifice a bit of cricket if it helps with this.

This same regime was there last year. However, Bangladesh didnt show any support for Pakistan during Champions Trophy. They happily travelled to Dubai to face India and if my memory serves right was also asking their remainder matches to be held at Dubai instead of Pakistan citing jet lag.

You are absolutely right.

Pakistan shouldn't boycott. They got what they wanted (playing outside of India). They should go and play.

All the best, TEAM PAKISTAN. Thanks for the recent support. :inti

If you want to play cricket, stop pouting and focus on cricket.

IF you want to politicise the sport like India and Pakistan, then sure.

Oh well, can't blame Bangladeshi fans.

They are cut from same cloth as Pakistan and India.
Seems like you are blaming them.

Their stance isn't related to the strength or weakness of their team. What's the point bringing it up?

If a weaker guy gets punched in the face and asks for justice, does it get denied on account of his weakness?

I understand large corporate bodies thinking in this way, but I do find it strange when average Joe fans start to think in these terms.

Correct.

Team's weakness/strength has no relevance here. It is about safety/security. It is about team's desire to visit a particular country. :inti

Even in corporate world, there is zero tolerance for discrimination.

Anyway, BCB is unlikely to reach out to @Dr_Bassim for approval. So, he doesn't need to worry about anything. :inti

LOL. Why are they asking for justice from ICC (International Cricket Council) for what happened to one of its players in IPL (Indian Premier League)?

No team will reach out to anyone here but just like you spam here 24*7, @Dr_Bassim also has all the right to post and share his thoughts. Atleast, they are not as draconian as yours asking to ban Tamim Iqbal, Mehedi Miraz and Mithun for acting as Indian agent.

#HaiHimmat?

LOL. Why are they asking for justice from ICC (International Cricket Council) for what happened to one of its players in IPL (Indian Premier League)?
They are asking to play cricket in a safe and secure environment and to be offered the same treatment as other countries have received only recently.

They havent asked for Mustafizur to be reinstated in IPL.

I'm surprised he hasn't demanded Bangladeshi courts to award them the death penalty.

Its an ICC tournament and ICC security council found no security threat for BD cricketers in India. So there is no ground onto which they can change their venue. BD were free to pull out if they still didnt want to play and that is exactly what they have done.

There are valid reasons why many countries boycott Israel. It a fake genocidal state founded in stolen land which has carried out ethnic cleansing. There was no reason for US to boycott Moscow Olympics but US did it .

It is the same security "council" that found no threat in Pakistan either.

And I am guessing it is same security "council" that mandates that Pakistan can play in Sri Lanka.

As I said. Double standards when all they asked for is equality and justice.

I am not a fan of Mohsin Naqi but he is handling the situation very well.It is the Indian government which makes decisions for BCCI.It was the Indian government which didn’t allow India to travel to Pakistan.Pakistan government should do exactly the same.It should not allow PCB to take part.I believe Indian Cricket Council(ICC) will have no legal recourse. The precedent was set by India and no action was taken or could have been taken.
Not sure I understand. What issue would the Pak govt. have against SL? What is the security issue? Especially, since PCB is the one that negotiated to have games in SL.

This is why I want Pakistan to boycott. Only then they will realise their true aukaat

Just like they found out after 2009 IPL boycott !
Pakistan should not boycott. IPL layoff is fine and right now no Pakistani really cares about that tournament but Pakistan cricket in the long run can’t survive without ICC.

Even Indian public is losing interest in IPL. :inti

IPL is overrated.

ICC has been facing numerous challenges and, in my opinion, it is likely to become dormant in a couple of years. Given this outlook, it might be prudent for us to consider letting it phase out now rather than prolonging the inevitable.

Cricket, as it stands, operates largely as a monopoly controlled by India, with Australia and England acting as key partners in this arrangement. While India might believe it is self-sufficient and can continue to dominate the sport indefinitely, this is a somewhat naive perspective. The sport's current structure is not sustainable in the long term, and it is essential that we take a stand for what is right and just.

Rashid Latif urges Pakistan to boycott T20 World Cup

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has again urged Pakistan to withdraw from the ICC T20 World Cup, warning that the tournament would lose its credibility if Pakistan do not participate.

“If Pakistan don’t go, everything will be toppled. It won’t remain a World Cup,” Latif said. “There can be matches like Australia versus India, but the World Cup level will be destroyed. The World Cup will be finished.”

Latif was responding to recent remarks by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi, saying the comments suggested Pakistan may already be moving toward a withdrawal.

“From today’s press conference, it looked like they are walking on that path,” Latif said. “When he says he will speak to the government, I feel that conversation has already happened. This is just about extending the episode.”

Latif praised Bangladesh for maintaining their stance of not playing in India, saying it demonstrated clarity and resolve.

“By sticking to their position, Bangladesh have shown they are clean and clear, keeping their country in mind,” he said. “Now for Pakistan, it’s time to stop talking and take action.”

He also alleged political influence over Indian cricket administration, saying the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) operates under the influence of India’s ruling BJP.

Latif said Pakistan’s absence would significantly reduce global interest in the tournament, particularly India–Pakistan matches.

“At least 50 percent of people want to watch India versus Pakistan,” he said. “That interest will die down.”

“If Pakistan also join Bangladesh, then things will come to the bargaining table,”
Latif added. “If Bangladesh are alone, they will face sanctions. But if Pakistan pull out too, it won’t be a World Cup — it will just be the IPL.”

Latif said the India–Pakistan rivalry attracts attention beyond cricket, citing examples from junior sports and athletics like Javelin events.

“If Pakistan pull out, the news will go worldwide,” he said, adding that the India market plays a major role in global broadcast revenues for cricket boards.

“Just imagine if Uganda replaces Pakistan — India playing Uganda in Ahmedabad to a full house,” Latif said jokingly.

Like I said previously, with 'well wishers' like Rashid Latif, Pakistan cricket doesn't need enemies. The guy doesn't even talk like an ex Pakistani cricketer, he talks like some random emotional Pakistani fan walking down the streets who has no skin in the game.

I understand what your point is. But what is your solution for the long term? What should be done for the sport to thrive?
Sport will continue to find it’s way to thrive in the short term, however I am not optimistic about its future in the next 50+years. The sport as we know today may not exist in the same form.

However, I believe the solution lies in taking a stand against injustice. By addressing and combating injustices within the sports community, we can create a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.

Your solution seems very vague and random. Not specific.

What needs to be done for long term benefit? What should the setup be? How will revenue be generated? How will boards achieve self sufficiency? Some basic questions.

People would like to go back to pre-BCCI days when cricketers used to be gentlemen and get paid peanuts and match fix and spot fix to try to get as much as NBA and MLB and other professional sports players.

BCCI revolutionized by bringing money into the game.

BCCI should actually let all the fans and cricket boards who think they are the problem go back to the old fashioned 1995 way where cricketers can be told to represent the country like an honor and be told that they will be paid bread crumbs but they should suck it up.

None of this would've happened had Indian Govt not pandered to its rabid far right base by pressuring BCCI to exclude Mustafizur from IPL under the nonsense pretence of "solidarity" with Bangladeshi Hindus.

^ Not a very intelligent post. Sure the BCCI pandered to rightwingers in India .. but that was a domestic decision and none of BCB's business. You are drawing equivalence between a player's participation a private domestic league with national team participation in a multilateral international tournament. The two are poles apart.

POTW.

PCB shouldn’t boycott the WC because remember when Pakistan was alone and nobody wanted to visit Pakistan not one cricketing nation supported Pakistan.

Had this IPL fiasco never occurred, Bangladesh would have continued being the chamcha of BCCI.

Do what’s best for Pakistan cricket and continue with the participation.

Cricket is a dying sport and I blame India for this.

India turned cricket into a complete farce.

Hopefully one day cricket will become great again just like how it was pre-2000. :inti

Bangladesh visited Pakistan 4-5 times since 2019. :inti

Before that, it was a bit risky because of TTP and whatnot.

Anyway, Pakistan should not boycott the WC. Maximum they can do is boycott the India game to give BCCICC a financial blow. Other than that, no reason to boycott.

Mohsin Naqvi : - "If the government of Pakistan says we mustn't play, then maybe the ICC will bring in a 22nd team (after Scotland). It's up to the government."

It seems like Pakistan are pulling out from the WC as well lol. I am sure they encouraged Bangladesh to stick to their guns.

There are more than 2 jokers involved. If you think ICC and BCCI should not be added to the joker list, you're blind. 4 jokers ... While at it add the BD and Ind gov. Rest are just laughing.

You are forgetting shifting matches from India was made by BCB.... not by BCCi... why you are keeping mum over PCB who invoked BCB to boycott and pretended them they would also done the same.

BcB is cheated by PCB in broad dayline

It seems like Pakistan are pulling out from the WC as well lol. I am sure they encouraged Bangladesh to stick to their guns.
Pakistan won’t boycott

Pakistan needs to boycott India vs Pakistan no matter where in the world it is. this triggers ICC and BCCI and the Indian public. Pakistani don't really care much about this fixture.
Agree with that.

Pakistan needs to stand with Bangladesh and pull out and it will be a fantastic move to win hearts and minds in Bangladesh no matter what the loses.

100% Pakistan should support BCB and there is great public support in both Bangladesh and Pakistan for this.

India can play Uganda instead of Pakistan and that's fine...

Easy for you to say. When you are not running things.

There are a whole lot of people associated with PCB who will be affected due to financial losses. Most of whom are innocent participants.

I am certain that PCB will not boycott and will be playing the WC.
