Pakistan Super League 2017 - Discussion Thread

Aren't Saif Badar and Irfan are in supplementary squads only? Last year Lahore didn't call a single player from Supplementary squad

Wasn't Ehsan Adil a supplementary player last time around? He ended up playing a few games.

Karachi will dominate. Of course we are underrated. Qalandars are highly overrated. It's okay KK like to stay under the radar. :) :amir2 :kk

Muhammad Amir alone is sufficient for these Baz types..

In the end LQ will bow down to the might of the KK, because there can only be one King :salute

Just over 2 weeks left. Can't wait.

KK has a good squad, but our captain will be a passenger. Sanga isn't suited for these T20 leagues anymore.

same here i am waiting for PSL from last two month and INSHALLAH will go to lahore to watch the final

KK:

Gayle (hit or miss. mostly miss in UAE)
Sanga
Babar
Malik
Bopara
Imad
(One dimensional batting line up. Not ideal for t20s.)

LQ:

BMac
Roy
Akmal
(A good top 3 for t20.)

Rizwan (only weak link)

Fakhar
Franklin
Yamin
Narine
(Good all rounders with hard hitting ability.)

Tanveer
Zafar
Mudassir

I'd have Eliott or Delport in place of Franklin though. Also, bowling is a bit. But atleast they don't have to bowl to a top 3 of Baz, Roy and Akmal.. :P

I watched little bit of Franklin in BPL recently and he batted really well. I think he is better than Eliott or Delport as a t20 batsman basing my opinion on his recent performances in BPL.

And Quetta have better top order than LQ.

Shehzad (in very good form)
Wright
KP
Rossow
Sarfraz

They have a better top order, Lahore has the best top 3. Below Akmal, only Rizwan and the all-rounders are left. It will be important for one of the top three to bat till the end. Quetta has Sarfaraz at 5 so batting depth, but if the top 3 of Lahore clicks then I think they are more destructive.

Delport and Eliott both had great seasons last year. Plus Delport adds batting depth as well, so.

Delport scored in 1 or 2 games last season and he is not a fluent t20 batsman. Eliott is better with ball and Franklin is better with bat down the order. We need a better batsman down there because of Rizwan and unpredictability of top 3 factor.

Don't miss out on Fakhar. He has a t20 100 and better strike rate and average than Akmal. If he clicks then he can also be destructive.

Yeah but standard of PSL will be higher than whatever he has played so far. But I hope he performs very well, not just for Qalandars, but also for Pakistan as we need someone at six to be a finisher.

Yup. It will be a step above from what he have done so far.

as long as players like yamin fakhar harris shahzaib babar play every game, i will be happy

Won't be supporting any particular team this time around.Looking forward to enjoy some good cricket.Especially looking forward to seeing how Quetta and Lahore play with their lineups.

after the replacement draft, lahore seems to be the strongest competitor,
btw,
lets hope that the trophy changes; a big cup?

Moeen Ali has pulled himself out of PSL due to "Family commitments". Gladiators have picked Brad Hodge in his place.

That doesn't sound promising for UK fans..... :13:

I love how much importance the PCB give to a legally binding contract, by stripping Prime TV of the rights to show the PSL even though they had a 3 year contract.

Did some digging and this "A Plus" channel is a South Asian channel and launched in Europe yesterday :afaq

It is available (according to their website) on Sky 859. Not sure if it's free or part of the Asia pack - will check when I get home InshAllah

Meanwhile this is all I can find for UK44:

UK44 is the United Kingdom's first and only news and current affairs channel for the Pakistani and South Asian diaspora.

http://www.uk44.tv/

Nothing seems to be playing on there though.

I love the cricket gateway streaming that they have. Beautiful HD streaming and no ads.

I bought the service last year and will do again this year too. I think it was only like 5 dollars or something.

bhai the problem with streams is that they lag and then suddenly stop, and u have to refresh them to continue watching... did u have any problem with this one ? HD???

I don't know, I have an ok-ish internet connection here in Canada and it never got stuck. However, when I stream from unofficial sites then I do get alot of lag.

this is very bad for uk fans .as syed said you should watch on cricket gateway which will cost 5 dollars

We need PSL to be shown in India. That would definitely bring in the big bucks..

Is it fast? I mean does it buffer and all? For example Netflix is pretty quick to load movies even with a slow internet compared to a free website for watching movies.

Atleast last year it was top notch, but it is expected more people may tune in this year which may cause it to buffer.

wth why is Sanga captaining when we can give captaincy experience to Imad or Amir.

If the final is played in Lahore that could change everything, a team dominating in the uae may not adapt as quickly as the other team to the conditions in Gaddafi, the team with more average local players may do better than a team with star names unlike last time when Islamabad won thanks to foreign players.

Also if certain players integral to the team's run to the final pull out from coming to Pakistan that could change the entire team dynamic and a replacement draft may not be able to fill that void. For example Quetta without KP would not look the same team or Islamabad without Russell's bowling (highest wicket-taker) in the last PSL.

Moeen Ali puts cricket on hold

England international Moeen Ali has withdrawn from playing in the Pakistan Super League to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca with his family.

The all-rounder, a devout Muslim, was picked up by Quetta Gladiators in the PSL supplementary draft on Monday, as a replacement for West Indian Carlos Brathwaite.

But just a day later the Gladiators announced on their official Twitter account that Moeen had opted out of playing in the tournament for family reasons.

The Gladiators tweeted: "@MoeenAli is a top player and a great person. We respect his decision to honour his family commitment first. Good Luck Moeen."

Moeen, currently touring India with England, replied: "Thanks guys. Inshallah (if Allah wills) in the future sometime. Would have loved to have taken part. All the best in the competition."

Veteran Australian batsman Brad Hodge was drafted in as Moeen's replacement for the tournament, held in Dubai and Sharjah, which begins on February 9.

Today while on commentary Ricky, Mark and Mark Howard were talking about how a big deal it is for an Australian domestic spinner to be selected for a T20 league in subcontinent. They were like he would learned a lot, bowling to better players of spin. Seems like that was the aim of it.
Also, chris green is very excited. Excited even to be part of thehttp://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/cricket/rising-australian-t20-star-chris-green-signs-lucrative-pakistan-super-league-contract/news-story/d952209034bf116e2f25c09c72ad0e0c "Historic Final" in Lahore.
Also, saeed5646 is right. He is purely Upton's pick. Look how he mentions that he was called out of the moon by him.

I hope BBL teams start picking our youngsters too. It would do a world of good for our young batsmen.

Shaggy is much better than Sean Paul. Wonder what song he's gonna perform though. "Honey came in and she caught me red handed...

Are we going to see the same kits as last year or they are going to be changed up a bit?

Teams should be regional as long as matches are in UAE so fans can vote for their respective regions. For example:
KK: Shahzaib, Sohail, Sarfraz*, Rumman, Latif, Sami, Mudassar
LQ: Babar*, Umar, Kamran, Amir, Wahab, Zafar, Hasan
IU: Tanvir, Imad*, Malik, Maqsood, Amin, Hafeez, Bhatti
PZ: Junaid*, Rizwan, Asghar, Shehzad, IK jr, Afridi, Fakhar
QG: Sharjeel*, Yasir, Yamin, Iftikhar, Nawaz, Gul, Haris

This will give each team 7-8 local players so fans can support their respective cities. Also, the local players will get captaincy experience instead of giving it to foreign seniors.

Whatsup with the kits man. The quality has plummeted from last year. Here's hoping that the other three teams can save a little bit of izzat.
