This PSL has been disappointing so far just based on the fact that TTFs are being preferred over YOUNGSTERS

TTFs: Tried & Tested Failures at International level who have a low (or NO) chance of making it to the Pakistan XI / Should not be in the Pakistan playing XI.

In-Between: Relatively young cricketers who have the potential to be in the Pakistan XI (or are already in the Pakistan XI)

Youngsters: Young cricketeres with potential, who are yet to make an international debut

Each team has played 3 matches so far i.e. each team had the chance to pick 21 (3 matches * 7 local player openings in each playing XI) spots for local players.

Here is a quick analysis of how the teams have picked between TTFs vs in-Between/Youngsters for these 21 spots

1) Qalandars (Lahore) allocated 81% of the spots for In-Between/Youngsters

2) United (Islamabad) allocated 76% of the spots for In-Between/Youngsters

3) Kings (Karachi) allocated 71% of the spots for In-Between/Youngsters

At the bottom are:

1) Sultans (Multan) allocated 57% of the spots for TTFs

2) Zalmi (Peshawar) & Gladiators (Quetta) - each with 43% of the spots for TTFs.

Biggest Disappointments in terms of player selection:

- Misbah / Iftikhar playing over young Sahibzada in United (Islamabad)

- Sarfaraz preferring TTFs like Anwar / Rahat and Shafiq over youngsters like Saud Shakeel, Saad Ali and Mir Hamza

PSL is franchise cricket and its not PSL job to groom cricketers for Pak Intl team. That is the job of PCB and its FC/List A setup. Teams will pick whoever they think will win them matches. No one goes out wanting to lose a match unless of course teams are doing you know what. I think the teams have just tried to be conservative at the start of the tournament and tried to pick safe bets.. Teams who perform very well or those who perform very poorly will be willing to experiment by providing more opportunities for those on bench and building their future (not Pak cricket future, just their own franchise future. Any gain to Pak cricket is just a by-product)

It annoys me when people say we don't any batting talent and the reality is they haven't even been given a chance while ttf's have filled all the teams.

Saud hasn't been given a chance yet. While badar will be batting at 7 or batting below tanvir. Then you have talat who won them the last game so he was rewarded with a demotion.

This PSL is full of ttf's infact all have been. You needs contacts and friendship.

Good analysis. The main job of PSL though is not necessarily to groom cricketers for the National team, although it does play a very big part. But I do agree people like Iftikhar Ahmed shouldn't be playing over the likes of Sahibzada Farhan.

There should be a rule where bench players must play a certain amount of games

has the pakistani player who bowls like malinga played a match?

if so how good has he been

I personally think that for local player(s) draft/selection from the pool that is available for the teams to pick from should have an age 'tax'

After, let's say, '30' the older the player you pick in the draft you'd have to give an increasing percentage tax to PCB since maintaining a pool of players with old guys generally reduces the league's quality!

This would:

(a) Discourage franchises to buy any such player as younger players will not be taxed.

(b) The few that do get selected will have more pressure on them to perform i.e. no free rides.

This is just a ball park idea, but something along the lines could really be innovative and increase overall PSL quality !
