A bigger and better HBL Pakistan Super League returns to action in February 2018!

In accordance with the rules of the PSL 2 players have been retained in each of Platinum, Diamond and Gold categories, 3 players have been retained for Silver, and 1 for Emerging.

The following is the list of retentions:

Platinum:

Andre Russell

Misbah Ul Haq

Diamond:

Mohammed Sami

Samuel Badree

Gold:

Shadab Khan

Rumman Raees

Silver:

Asif Ali

Amad Butt

Iftikhar Ahmed

Emerging:

Hussain Talat

The trade for Iftikhar Ahmed was made on 5 October. Islamabad United receives Iftikhar in exchange for Pick Swap with Peshawar Zalmi in the 2nd round of the Supplementary Category. Thus Peshawar Zalmi Will get the number 2 pick in Supplementary Round 2, and Islamabad United will have the fifth pick.

The players not listed above have been released.

No Sangakarra

No Shehzad (looks like he will be made captain of MS )

It's weird that Quetta retained both Asad Shafiq and Umar Amin but got rid of Ahmed Shehzad and Hasan Khan. Both Hasan and Shehzad played practically every game in last year's PSL. Umar Amin couldn't get a single game while Shafiq had a less than modest tournament.

Maybe Hassan Khan is emerging.

Abdullah bhai, do you have new category list of players according to which players have been retained?

No Shane Watson.

No Azhar Ali.

No Jason Roy.

players have been retained according to new category list. so, that is where problem existed

Peshawar look like the strongest side still, but i'll be rooting for Multan warriors!! Insha-Ala PSL 3 champions, make my dreams come true brothers and doston

IU signed Cha Cha Iftikhar Ahmed from PZ. :))

Such a pity, no Wotson or Roy, hope islamabad lose badly, and lahore too, what are they thinking with no star bowlers :)))

Eng, Aus and Nz players are busy in Feb/March so the wont be available so does the Jason Roy.

IU's team is looking a lot stronger this year. They will need to sign a keeper as they haven't retained one.

KK is the best team on paper for now. Let's see how Multan does in picking their squad.

Some good decisions, some not so good.KK and IU look strong but will wait until Multan gets their players.

Can't believe QG released Luke Wright.

Kk always looked the strongest side in all of the seasons. But zero when it comes to performance. Same with Lahore. The supposed rivals were competing to see who is more rubbish.

Anytime someone complains about mediocre players i will point out that Darren Sammy is still getting employment in 2017

Good to see Lahore retaining Yamin but they should have released Bhatti. Also nice to see them get Sohail Khan. Mickey doesn't like him much and he can do a lot more in the Qalandars side. Also great decision to release Rizwan. They should pick a talented overseas keeper. I wish Buttler or Bairstow were available.

What's wrong with Islamabad? They picked chacha ifti?

Quetta retaining Anwar Ali and Shafiq?? Lol sarfi and co picking their friends.

Peshawar retaining Kamran 😔

Can't believe we let Watson go and signed Ifti chacha of all people.

At the end of the day they have to retain only 10 players..... but boy can't understand this Asad Shafiq thing....over my head

I think, most (every but Multan) of the teams have their XI finalized & there are not many players left - can be 1/2 players at most for starting. In that regard, KK has gone a very good business - dropped Sanga & Mushi, which opens 2 foreign quota, but that reduces WK resources, so they exchanged Sohail for the best available WK-batsman in country. Amir, Shinwari backed by Bopara was already a decent pace attack for UAE, now Afridi means Imad, Afridi, Mir makes is a good spin attack & all-round depth. If they can get someone like Ewan Lewis as 1st Gold pick & one local young pacer to back up the 2 starters, KK's swap with Afridi & Rizwan actually makes them in nest position ..... only if Lala is happy to play only as player.

Which foreign player goes by the name of Mushi?

From 1st cut memory, local players open for Multan are

1. Malik (C)
2. Ahmed
3. Talat
4. Ajmal
5. Md. (tall) Irfan
6. JK
7. Maqsood
8. Mudassar
9. Sohail Tanvir
10. Gohar
11. Raza Hasan
12. Irfan (Leggi)
13. Bangash (WK)
14. Siddik (WK)
15. Saad Nasim
16. Hasan Khan
17. Aga Salman Ali
18. Imran Khan
19. Rahat Ali
20. Nawaz

+ several youngsters from this season of domestics. Multan actually can form a fantastic T20 team, if Malik is appointed Captain.

Peshawar Zalmi still strongest team and they got Karachi picks... Back them to have best squad...

Lahore Qalandars have a good basis atm
Hopefully they get a good international fast bowler- Mitchell Johnson ideal
A few good local batsmen also required.

Karachi why have you retained Khurram Manzoor? Why have you signed Rizwan?

Islamabad why you signed Iftikhar Ahmed?

Quetta decent, but should have tried to keep Luke Wright if at all possible. No idea why Umar Amin and Asad Shafiq are retained.

Peshawar, did ok I guess. Surely should have retained Tamim over Shakib though.

Eagerly awaiting what Multan Sultans pick. My prediction:

Shoaib Malik (C)
Ahmed Shehzad
Luke Wright
Tamim Iqbal
Mohammad Irfan
Umar Gul
Saad Nasim
Saeed Ajmal
Bismillah Khan

Kami had a great PSL2, he started with 80 runs and who could forget his 100 against KK in Semi? and a decent 40 in low scoring Final!!

He only scored 3 times in 10 games. That is an abysmal PSL.

Just realised Junaid Khan has been released by PZ. There must be something going on behind the scenes with him as he did pretty well in Natwest t20 blast, as well as in the CT, and yet doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar.

Also, I can't believe KK retained Manzoor. :))

First 9 Picks Of Multan

in my opinion Multan should go with these players

1.Shoaib Malik(c)
2.Ahmad Shahzed
3.Sohaib Maqsood
4.Hammad Azam
5.Tamin Iqbal
6.Keron Polard
7.Raza Hassan
8.Junaid Khan
9.Mohammad Irfan

Adnan was pictured training with Aqib and co. and seeing Rizwan is gone, one can only assume so.

I had assumed Umar would do it.

I would lose a lot of respect for LQ if they pick Adnan Akmal. What's the point of these talent hunts if they then select pathetic players like him?

I hope QG lose in the final a third time so they can finally realize that they have persisted with mediocre players for three years.

There is lot of money at stake and an Entrepreneur would never make such silly moves unless it makes sense.

Finally, for once, KK is not under the spotlight and I am really glad it turned out like this. This whole new Multan franchise has taken away the much necessary hype from KK which is ideal for our team tbh.

Now let's look at the picks that we have at the moment, although I am quite miffed with the Afridi trade (especially by giving away a Gold and Silver pick) but khair hay, Lala is one of our own toh I'll let this one slide however he needs to prove this season that forgoing two picks was actually worth getting him in the team.

Now comes the interesting part, the lineup that will constitute the team and what will exactly make up the core:

Manzoor ()
Opener (Need someone who can take this position and make it their own)
Babar (No questions here, best batsman in the team)
Bopara (The ideal guy to take that Shabby spot)
No. 5 (This is a tricky spot, we would ideally want a proper bat who can give it a real go if need but)
Rizwan (WK + The collapse stopper, if it's happening; however might push him up and down accordingly based on situation)
Lala (He comes before Imad because no matter what the situation is he will play the same, Imad basically at 8 is insurance)
Imad (I am not that comfortable with him being the specialist death over slogger but we don't really have other options at the moment, Plus he is the #1 Allrounder in T20s at the momen~makes sense!!)
Amir (Kuch ker Lay Nalaiq !!!)
Usama Mir (Leggie and number 10, better than Shinwari but no way comes ahead of Amir who can bat properly)
Shinwari (Amir's new ball partner, death specialist and the 2nd pacer in the team - We only need 2 in the UAE or even in Pakistan)

Based on the above, at the moment we only have 2 spots open right now - The second opener and the Number 5. I would personally be inclined to take Jason Roy as the second openere and slot in somebody like a Luke Wright in the middle of this team. Would give us an additional pace option while making sure we have a very good bat who can provide both finnese and dash (as per requirement)

The rest of the picks can be Fawad Alam, Umer Amin, Random Guy #1, Random Guy #2 so on and so forth.

Because Afridi will not play responsibly regardless of where we put him, therefore, get someone with a bit of a brain at 5/6 cushioned by Rizwan (who can be floated based on situation), Put Afridi at 6/7 and give him the cushion of Imad who will follow so if Lala fails (not surprisingly) we don't just shut shop during the death.

Insurance for both batters at 5 and at 7. Even if one of them click we win the slog overs which are basically 75-80% of the game in a T20.

If we really want to go left field then we slot Afridi as the Opener, let him go berserk all tournament with the Legend Manzoor and get ourselves two middle order bats who can essentailly plug, prod and smash (as per requirement).

What do you think ?

Really it depends on who the foreign players are.

Cricket-wise its brainless to release Pollard, but I wouldn't want a guy playing for my team unless he gave 100%.

Also, I like how Karachi are staying low-key and quiet. Like a 1 AM night at Seaview. :fadi

Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United have apparently made big blunders with their player retentions. Zalmi looking strongest at the moment.

And you will play your 4th over seas player as a 12th man or super sub?

That's the upper limit brother.....

Or did I completely miss the sarcasm in that one

they have to play 4 players in their line up in any case. If they had option then in last year final Quetta had better local players than some of the foreign players flown in for the final.

I don't think that's a necessity, that's essentially the upper limit my friend. Can someone confirm this, please?!
