Congrats guys! Lords is proving to be our lucky ground

This is Pakistan's 5th win at the Lord's. Jointly the 2nd most by any visiting team at the venue after Australia. And also the most by any Asian team.

India played 17 won 2 Tests at Lords losing 11.

Pakistan played 15 and won 5 test at Lords losing 7.

Sri Lanka and never won a match at Lords they played 8 matches there.

Pakistan simply is relatively superb in England irrespective of the ground unlike other teams. We have won both in Lords and Oval in 2016.

We've lost 5 times overall at Lord's but if you discount playing Australia in 2010 in a "neutral" series when we had the most pathetic Test lineup in our history with Shahid Afridi as captain, and look at our matches vs England then its 4.

2 of those defeats was in 1962 when we were a newbie Test team and the other in 1978.

Lord's, MCG and Eden Gardens are the big 3 among cricket grounds, always special to do well in any of these places. Pakistan are so good in England, I won't be surprised if they lift the WC trophy in Lord's next year, last time they played a WC final in Lord's they were runners up.

India has lost 11 tests in Lord's but 3 of them were before 1947 (1932/36/46) where we competed under British India flag and teams had both Indians and Muslims who later migrated to Pakistan. I would prefer a separate category for British India when judging records pre 1947, and that should also include other sports, movies, art etc.

Have good history at Lord's, with one MAJOR exception being 2010 :(

Whats so special about Eden Gardens?

Whats so special about Eden Gardens?

It used to be India's biggest ground and most inconic.

On topic, good record.

Does anyone know how many Pakistani bowlers and batsmen are on the honours board at Lords? Its shame Abbas just missed out in this test match.

Good record. Surprised to see Sachin, Lara, Kallis, Ponting, Gavaskar do not have centuries at Lord’s. I think its Lord’s loss.

Why is it a loss for Lords? lol

It's a loss for them, if there is one venue you want to score a hundred it's Lords. They must have tried hard but just didn't happen for them.

Whats so special about Eden Gardens?

It is the oldest cricket ground outside England and Australia, established in 1864. One of the most iconic sports venues, had a capacity of over 120,000 before upgradation of seating arrangement (for a long time only Maracana Stadium in Rio had a higher capacity). Also the first stadium outside Lord's to host a World Cup finals (1987), besides having the most passionate/volatile/violent crowd in cricket. Personally I like Chepauk (Chennai) most in India but have to swallow my pride and admit that it doesn't quite match up to Eden Gardens :).

How is it Lord’s loss? All of them played there but were unlucky not to score a ton.

Eden Gardens is not an iconic ground? You learn something new everyday.

Ironically enough, we've got a good record at Eden Gardens too. 1-1 in Test matches with 5 draws and 4-0 in ODIs. :afridi

Will never forget Butt and Inzamam chasing down 290 in front of a packed Eden Gardens on Eid-ul-Fitr 2004.

One of my fondest cricketing memories.

Better to win at the home of cricket than beating Papua New Guinea, Nepal, Kenya, etc etc to a pulp at home.

But winning at the Home of Cricket but losing to Papua New Guinea, Nepal and Kenya etc. at home gives you the #7 rank, with the fans rejoicing when the #1 team loses to the #5 team.

Test cricket is irrelevant in Asia. 99% of the time, stadiums are empty. Test cricket matters in England, Australia, and SA only, specially Lord's which is the home of cricket.

Results count all the same. ICC doesn’t award rankings points based on how many people are watching in the stadium.

Do you have to come in and ruin every pro-Pakistan thread?:afaq

It’s quite poetic really.
A team that can’t play at home does well at the home of cricket..

I will go further for our traitor(s) here on PP.
With Mickey as coach, Safaraz as captain and an independent PCB with a proper first class system the only way is up.

Arguably the most talented team in the world that can dominate for years to come.

I think we have an exceptional record at the oval too. Maybe we should ask London to host our games, and we have just the Mayor for it :D

And whether a match is in London or not also doesn't affect ranking points :azhar2

When did Pakistan last lose to Papua New Guinea, Nepal and Kenya?

I think you'll find it's India who lost to one of these.

Our friend claimed that there is no point in beating teams like PNG, Nepal and Kenya if you are going to lose matches in England. India have beaten the likes of South Africa, England, Australia and New Zealand at home in the last three years.

On the contrary, Pakistan's ranking in the last two years took a big hit when it lost two Tests to the West Indies (one in the UAE) and two Tests to Sri Lanka (both in the UAE). So perhaps you should ask our friend which teams he was referring to when he brought up PNG, Nepal and Kenya.

So India was worse off when it had a bigger pool of players to choose from :confused

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has been granted full planning permission by Westminster City Council to construct two new three-tier stands to replace the existing Compton and Edrich Stands.

The redevelopment of the stands at Lord’s Cricket Ground forms the second phase of the ground’s updated Masterplan.

The designs by double Stirling Prize winners WilkinsonEyre, who are responsible for the current refurbishment of the Grade II*-listed Battersea Power Station, will remain consistent with the overall architectural identity of Lord’s and the ‘village cricket green’ ethos, whilst working to improve the overall harmony of the north-east end of the ground.

The plans include much needed upgraded amenities. There are currently no facilities within the existing stands, with poor sightlines in the lower tiers. The new designs include integrated catering and WC facilities, and vastly improved sightlines for the seats in the lower levels which will substantially improve the spectator experience. The seating capacity of the new stands will be increased by around 2,500, accommodating 11,500 spectators overall, which will enable MCC to better satisfy the demand for tickets from the general public, and there will also be wheelchair-accessible spaces as well as lift access at all levels.

Construction is due to commence after the completion of this summer’s major matches on 24th August 2019.

The rapid-build design sequence has been developed to minimise interruption to match fixtures, with the new stands’ seats due to be ready for use during the 2020 season. Fully fitted-out facilities are scheduled to be completed for the summer of 2021. The stands are anticipated to cost in the region of £50m.

MCC Members will be asked to approve the plans at the Club’s AGM in May 2019.

MCC Chief Executive & Secretary Guy Lavender said: “MCC is delighted to receive planning permission for the redevelopment of the Compton and Edrich Stands. We are excited to be commencing another transformational development at Lord’s, and by raising the capacity to 31,000 we will be able to welcome more spectators to enjoy matches at the largest cricket ground in the country, here at the Home of Cricket.

The redevelopment will be an outstanding addition delivering world-class facilities, ensuring that Lord’s remains the finest ground in the world to watch, and play cricket.”

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has overseen the installation of new Honours Boards in both the home and away dressing rooms at Lord’s, as part of a refurbishment of the facilities ahead of the 2019 season.

One of the most significant changes in terms of milestones and achievements is that centuries and five-wicket hauls at Lord’s in One-Day Internationals, in both men’s and women’s matches, are now recognised within the dressing rooms.

Previously, only players who made a century or took five wickets in a Test Match were officially recorded within the dressing rooms, but now the same achievements from ODI matches are included.

This new addition means that some of the names who didn’t make it on to the Honours Board during their Test Match careers, such as Michael Atherton, Ricky Ponting and Muttiah Muralitharan, are now officially immortalised above the doors leading out to the players’ balconies in the famous Lord’s Pavilion.

The addition of ODIs includes performances in women’s internationals at Lord’s, with Anya Shrubsole’s figures of 6 for 46 now adorning the wall after a famed England victory over India in 2017 to win the ICC Women’s World Cup.

Lisa Keightley, of Australia, and England’s Claire Taylor, Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins are the first women’s players to see their names recognised for ODI centuries, whilst Australia’s Cathryn Fitzpatrick and England’s Katherine Brunt join Shrubsole in being celebrated for five-wicket hauls.

Guy Lavender, MCC Chief Executive & Secretary, said: “We are delighted to now be able to recognise the same achievements for One-Day Internationals as we have done for Test Matches for many years. This is a landmark moment for Lord's, with women's cricket now documented in the dressing rooms for the first time.

“The Honours Boards are amongst the most popular attractions for the many visitors to the Home of Cricket. There is a huge amount of prestige for players to see their name inscribed in history, so it is appropriate for a new installation of the boards to take place ahead of what will be such a busy year of cricket at Lord’s.”
