1) the next cycle of media rights likely will be negotiated to have not mandatory Pak-India match unlike the last one

2) No idiots like Saurav Ganguly around to give Pak hosting rights anytime soon

If Pak demands are for real, they come thro as beggars to be honest going from principled stand to negating the the price to be a *****

The more I look at this, the more it feels like Pakistan is walking into its own trap. If not playing is being justified as force majeure because the government hasn’t given permission, then how is the PCB supposedly an independent body still negotiating with the ICC about playing the match? That itself suggests the door isn’t completely closed.

And if the government is willing to give permission once certain demands are met, then it clearly wasn’t an unavoidable situation to begin with. That would mean the PCB leadership is effectively using the government as a bargaining chip, which doesn’t really fit the definition of force majeure at all.

Either way, the logic doesn’t add up. Something feels off here. My gut says this is going to blow back badly on the PCB. The BCB will probably come out fine, but the PCB looks like it’s heading for serious trouble.

It's definitely possible but there's so much dependancy
- Obviously the old deal was not lucrative for Jio (or so they claim) but this is for a new 5 year period. They'll have to think ahead before placing a bid
- I'm sure lot of discussions are ongoing but can they tempt Netflix and/or Amazon into bidding. They've already started getting to American Football, Premier League WWE and they could be enticed into seeing this as the only sports event to enter the Indian sports market. They're the only ones with the financial capacity to compete with Jio.

Both Netflix and Amazon have a huge presence in the Indian market. But not sure if they have to inclination to go the sports route yet. Yes, Netflix has NFL and NBA games this year. But am not sure if they are completely sold on sports yet. Both are testing the waters currently.

But that should not stop the ICC and the IPL from inviting them over. Big things could happen.

Not having a guaranteed Indo-Pak clash in the early stages of an event doesn't accomplish anything except maybe a 25% drop in value of ICC rights. Everyone will get a proportionate reduction in their share. Even then, there's still a chance the two nations will meet in the knockout stages.

but Pak is not totally dependant on ICC revenue. News is flashing Multan Sultans to pay annual free of around 8 Million$ to PCB. with two additional teams sold already , PSL annual Franchise fee is touching 30 Million $ for PCB. Add some 10 Million for home Bilateral series . Not sure if its the right plan for ICC if PCB decides to loose ICC shackels

This is key. Ramifications will be severe for several boards. Including many full members.

All the powers that be have to be prepared for this outcome.

PCB got the hybrid model for current tournament and there is no future tournament in Pak where India will have to refuse to travel and at least 2 in India. Will ICC allow Hybrid to continue? with current animosity between Boards ,one cannot seriously expect PCT to travel to India. So why not address the elephant in the room right now instead of going on with this saga?
 
I don't understand the hype for India and Pakistan matches anymore. India vs Aus/Eng/SA/NZ look more exciting to me, as the teams are more evenly matched. It seems like the marketing machine is keeping this one hyped so they can squeeze more from advertisers, feeding off the cross border animosity/sentiments. If broadcasters and advertisers were betting on this one match, they deserve to lose what comes of it, if the match doesn't happen. I am sure Jio (backed by Reliance) can absorb any loss.

What cannot happen is for the ICC to give in to a team's blackmail tactics, then you are setting a bad example for the future. Threatening to pull out of a scheduled game for some made-up reason is not a behavior you want to condone.

Yeah Netflix is at about half a billion in revenue in the Indian market. If they want to get into the A league i.e. cross the $1B mark, they'll have to take a big swing. Just adding the kind of content they're adding won't do it. They'll need something marque. IPL is probably too rich for their blood. Trying for ICC events either whole or partial might just be worth the risk.

Similar story with Prime. You just can't get big in India without mass-market content daily soaps, reality TV or cricket. Movies and Prestige TV can only get you so far. You'll always be niche without that content.

It's not a giant risk by Netflix & Prime standards - maybe $500m a year? They're spending that much on WWE.

I don't think your fans will be happy missing ICC events though but if PSL is enough for them, so be it. Afghanistan will take your spot.

Rivalries arent really about similar level if play. Both nations shut down when they play. Indians on PP try to pretend they don't but you can check it on other portals. If Pakistan played Israel tomorrow in football we'd get trashed but every single Pakistani would watch it.

No broadcaster would be stupid enough to shell quarter of a billion if this rivalry didnt matter. Those with that amount of cash are more astute than me and you

how will ICC make up for lost revenue from Pak vs Ind fixture? even with indo Pak games added , 3 billion $ was too much and there were of talks of 1 Billion $ subsidy to keep the current rights holder without terminating the entire deal. Next Cycle these Inflated figures will come back to reailty and absence of Indo Pak games is not going to help ICC at all

Lets say Naqvi agrees and play the game on 15th with ICC concessions , Will ICC allow Hybrid to continue for PCB? because PCB have no Hosting rights in next cycle as bargaining chip

Without Indo-Pak fixture, JioStar and ICC will negotiation a smaller deal. Simple. Every member board will have to adjust their budgets accordingly. No big deal. The cricket will live on.

Regarding future world cups, my contention was that ICC won't let Pakistan play IF the latter refuses to play all the scheduled games like they threaten to do in this current edition. You missed the IF bit.

I'm sure ICC can work something out. They have creatively rigged world cups in favour of India so if they use their imagination they can work something out here too.

ICC must come hard on them now. This is not PCB home series that they can take their own sweet time to decide. It is no longer a joke. They must give yes or no answer today before they take on field against USA tomorrow.

Infact, I will wait exactly for couple of hours more and then trend #NoPakUSA game tomorrow all over if we dont get a decision by then. Time starts now....

Former PCB & ICC DIRECTOR MEDIA Sami Ul Hasan Burney denied the claims by pakistani media that icc was begging Pakistan to play, He clarified that there is a due process which was being followed by ICC

Yup, and to demonstrate just how inept and pathetic the BCCI is, India couldn't win a single piece of silverware peak BCCI. Every final India got a whooping. CT17 being my favourite, followed by WC 2023 Final, where if you were not Indian, you were supporting Australia. This is how much the world despises cult India.

Then you are making the case for why the Cuba style isolation really is possible.

Paks only leverage comes from the way last broadcasting rights are worded. That is going to away.

So what is Paks leverage? No way in hell their ego let them play second fiddle and BCCI will ignore them and by default so will ICC if theere is not guaranteed game

In a significant turn of events on February 9, 2026, Pakistan may agree to face India in their scheduled T20 World Cup clash on February 15 in Colombo.

As per reports, the breakthrough came after intensive negotiations in Lahore between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and an ICC delegation. Here is the breakdown of the resolution:

There is no point spinning it. Had we boycotted, we would had come out on top, because ICC would had forced to atleast fix the groupings in future.

Now we come out looking like idiots that can be threaten with sanctions if we decide to boycott.

Even the fact that we forced the India game to Sri Lanka gets overshadowed.

Its an embarrassing day for Pakistan. Atleast Bangladesh walked the talk and did not play.
