Captain Bismah Maroof’s 89 and Sana Mir’s 4/20 helped Pakistan Women to a 94-run victory over Sri Lanka Women in the second ICC World Championship one-day international of the three-match series in Dambulla.

The victory gave Pakistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, after they had won the first ODI by 69 runs.

Opting to bat, Pakistan put up a competitive total of 250/6, Maroof being aided by contributions from Nida Dar (38) and Nahida Khan (29). Mir contributed with the bat as well, her 25-ball 27 towards the end of the innings comprising three fours.

In reply, Sri Lanka kept losing wickets and were bowled out for 156 in 37 overs. Sripali Weerakkody top scored with 29, while Chamari Athapaththu and Chamari Polgampola both scored 24 each. Ama Kanchana also got a start, with a 24-ball 23, but none of the batters managed to make them count, Pakistan nipping them out just as they got going.

Sana Mir bowled an outstanding spell, returning 4/32.

Mir’s four-wicket haul was a driving factor behind Pakistan’s victory. The right-arm off-spinner dismantled Sri Lanka’s top order, getting the wickets of Dilani Manodara (5), Shashikala Siriwardene (0), Rebeca Vandort (10) and Hasini Perera (11).

Sri Lanka were dealt an early blow when opener Nipuni Hansika was run out in the fifth over of the innings. Mir then scalped Manodara in the eighth over while captain Atapattu was caught by Nahida Khan off Nashra Sandhu for 24. Sri Lanka were reduced to 34/3 within nine overs.

They kept losing wickets thereafter. A 34-run partnership between Kanchana and Polgampola helped Sri Lanka cross the 100-run mark, but they couldn’t pose a challenge big enough to get near the Pakistan total.

Weerakkody and Sugandika Kumari added 50 runs for the final wicket, but it was too little too late. Kumari (17) was dismissed by Diana Baig to put an end to the Sri Lankan resistance.

Earlier, a 91-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Dar and Maroof lifted Pakistan from 98/4 to 189/5 and revived the innings after Sri Lanka had made early inroads.

Maroof was the last woman to be dismissed as she was caught by Athapaththu off Weerakkody in the third ball of the final over.

Sripali Weerakkody picked up two wickets for Sri Lanka while Ama Kanchana and Inoka Ranaweera returned a wicket each.

The Pakistan bowling attack, led by Sana Mir and Nashra Sandhu, rattled Sri Lanka in the third and final match of the ICC World Championship one-day international series to help Pakistan complete a 3-0 sweep with a 108-run win in Dambulla.

Pakistan posted 215/9 on the back of a steady Nahida Khan innings from the top and useful contributions from Javeria Khan, Bismah Maroof, Sidra Ameen and Nida Dar, which was followed by a brilliant bowling show that shot Sri Lanka out for 107 in 41.3 overs.

Mir was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers, finishing with 4/27, while Sandhu ended with 3/18.

Chasing 216, Nipuni Hansika and Chamari Polgampola, Sri Lanka’s openers, added 49 runs for the first wicket in 13 overs. It was slow going, but steady on the whole. Polgampola was the first to fall, for 10 in 40 balls, to Sandhu off the first ball of the 14th over.

Nahida Khan top scored for Pakistan with a 76-ball 46 Nahida Khan top scored for Pakistan with a 76-ball 46

From 49/1, Sri Lanka slipped to 49/4 in no time. Mir sparked the collapse. She first had the scalp of Hansika, who fell after top scoring for her side with 35, which she brought up in 40 balls. And then Mir sent Rebeca Vandort back for a duck.

The next over saw the dismissal of Chamari Athapaththu, who went back to the pavilion without opening her account, caught and bowled by Sandhu.

Wickets kept falling at an alarming rate as Mir came back into the attack and added two more to her tally – trapping Shashikala Siriwardena lbw for just 3 and then Hasini Perera for 8.

Prasadani Weerakkody (15) and Sugandika Kumari (18*) were the other two batters who scored in double-digits, while the rest of the line-up just fell in a heap.

Earlier, after opting to bat, Pakistan lost their first wicket early when Kumari clean bowled Muneeba Ali for 19.

Nahida then joined hands with Javeria Khan to forge a 63-run stand for the second wicket. Their association was broken when Siriwardena had Javeria caught for a 45-ball 30 by Kumari.

Nahida looked steady in her approach and continued to keep the scoreboard moving. But her innings came to end when she was trapped in front by Inoka Ranaweera. Nahida scored 46 in 76 balls, hitting five of them for fours. It was the top score of the innings.

Pakistan were on 129/3 and they needed their middle-order to step up. Maroof (26), Ameen (21), Dar (20) and Mir (16) did exactly what they were asked to, and took the team’s total past the 200 mark, which proved to be more than enough on the day.

Pakistan survive late scare to go 1-0 up

Pakistan kept up their winning run in Sri Lanka, following up their 3-0 win in the ICC Women’s Championship one-day international series with a one-wicket win with one ball left in the first of three Twenty20 Internationals at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club on Wednesday 28 March.

Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka finished at 124/6, Anushka Sanjeewai, the opener, and Nilakshi de Silva, the No.7, doing most of the scoring. Pakistan’s reply seemed to be on track for the longest time, but they went from 79/2 in the 12th over to 127/9 at the start of the final over before going over the line.

Sugandika Kumari and Oshadi Ranasinghe singed Pakistan early with the scalps of Nahida Khan (2) and Natalia Pervaiz (4), but Pakistan moved well in front with a 60-run stand for the third wicket between the experienced and in-form Bismah Maroof, the captain, and Javeria Khan.

They moved quickly, the 60 runs coming in under eight overs, before Maroof was run out for 42, scored off 31 balls with six boundaries.

Pakistan lost a clutch of wickets in a hurry after that as Sri Lanka clawed back – Nida Dar (1) and Kainat Imtiaz (5) were dismissed to leave Pakistan at 96/5, which became 121/6 when Khan was trapped lbw by Kumari. Khan’s 52, the best of the innings, came off 36 balls, and included eight fours.

The target, though, was within striking distance by then, and between them, Sana Mir (9), Fareeha Mehmood (2) and Diana Baig (2*) took Pakistan close before Ghulam Fatima, the No.11, hit a four off Ama Kanchana to seal the win.

Kumari was the best of the Sri Lankan bowlers, returning 3/23.

Earlier, Sanjeewani was the lone bright spot in a rickety Sri Lankan batting order.

Chamari Athapaththu (10), Hasini Perera (0), Imalka Mendis (0), Rebecca Vandort (5) and Shashikala Siriwardena (2) were all back in the hut by the ninth over with Sri Lanka reaching 38/5.

But de Silva gave Sanjeewani the support she needed with a good 34-ball 35*, with two fours, as the opening batter stroked her way to her best score in 14 international appearances – 61 from 58 balls, with eight fours – before being dismissed in the final over.

For Pakistan, Baig (2/18) and Mir (2/25) were the most successful bowlers.

The second game of the series will be played on Friday.

Another victory for Pak Women in the 3rd T20I, Pakistan Women tour of Sri Lanka at Colombo, Mar 31 2018

Pakistan Women 113/6 (20 ov)
Sri Lanka Women 75/8 (20 ov)
Pakistan Women won by 38 runs

Three run outs in the seventh over whilst chasing 114 against Pakistan completely derailed Sri Lanka in the decisive third Women's Twenty20 International, played at Colombo’s Sinhalese Sports Club on Saturday 31 March.

Asked to bat first, Pakistan struggled to get going, but Javeria Khan continued to be the standout batter on tour with a run-a-ball 38 that shored up the innings. It had started steadily enough for Pakistan, with Sidra Ameen and Nahida Khan putting up 33 for the first wicket. It took them seven overs to score the runs before Nahida became the first to fall, to Sugandika Kumari, for a 23-ball 19.

Bismah Maroof was dismissed by Shashikala Siriwardena soon after, but Ameen added a further 30 runs with Javeria to keep Pakistan on top despite the slow scoring rate.

Ameen became Kumari’s second victim, out for 23 in 34 balls, before the run rate picked up somewhat, courtesy Javeria and Nida Dar’s enterprise. The two got together with Pakistan on 66/3 after 13 overs, and lifted them to 107 by the 19th before the two fell in the same over, bowled by Oshadi Ranasinghe, who ended with 2/23 to Kumari’s 2/20.

Diana Baig struck the big blow early on, Chamari Athapaththu back for a duck Diana Baig struck the big blow early on, Chamari Athapaththu back for a duck

Sri Lanka’s reply seemed over before it even started properly, four wickets going down before the Powerplay was done with very little on the board. Diana Baig accounted for Chamari Athapaththu, the captain, for a duck, while Sana Mir got rid of Nilakshi de Silva, and there were a host of run outs.

Hasini Perera and Anushka Sanjeewani were both back in the hut to run outs by the fifth over, and Rebecca Vandort and Siriwardena joined them in the change room soon after, dismissed the same way, leaving Sri Lanka at 34/6 two balls into the eighth over.

Bismah Maroof didn't do much with the bat but chipped in with two wickets Bismah Maroof didn't do much with the bat but chipped in with two wickets

There was no way back for Sri Lanka from there, and while Imalka Mendis did her bit with an unbeaten 25, the game meandered to a close with Sri Lanka getting to 75/8, Maroof chipping in with a couple of wickets late in the script.

That gave Pakistan the series 2-1, to go with their 3-0 sweep of the ICC Women’s Championship one-day international series.
