A 60 run lead with a long tail about to be exposed is hardly miles in front.

A little bit of positive mindset helps the cause. Come one guys, this is so disappointing to see all the fans being so negative. I do agree that this team is very inexperienced and weak but you have to at least give them some credit and chance. This is a young team and 4 players are new in the team. I know Aamer has done his part but some people are just expecting too much out of these young lads. Give them some chance. At least they are trying to make things happen. Even though Azhar ali got out but he did try to grill it out on a wicket where even the likes of Ponting, Clarke and Hussey couldn't do much.

7 wickets in hand, first innings lead of somewhere between 100-150 is priceless. Australia will need to make in excess of 300 in the 2nd innings (where they got 88 in the 1st innings) to even be competitive.
You know they will come out determined in the 2nd innings to score as much as they can. It will be very very tough to get them out below 300 in the second, they're simply too experienced a side for that. So lets say they make 350 in the second, if we get a probable lead of around 150 that will still leave us with around 200 runs to win, a tough tough task for a young and inexperienced side imo, esp batting last at Headingley. That is why it is key for us to score at least 300 runs in this innings.

A good start for Pakistan. But we haven't put the game out of reach. We needed someone to score a century.

It looks like 400 maximum, realistically around 300. Which would give us around a 200 lead.

It could well be a repeat of Sydney unfortunately. We had a better first innings stand in Sydney and we were still bowled out for 333 runs.

This has been Pakistan day all along. It's embarrassing to read several negative comments. I think it has to do with some players missing, and therefore, giving their supporters license to portray negative of everything. We are aware of Sydney Test, but you can't expect miracle all the times. I have a feeling Pakistan will win, and deserve to win. Beside, Australian team will have to face AAG (Asif/Amer/Gul) again. They have been badly beaten by Pakistan bowling attack regularly, and i won't surprised if they get dominated by Pakistan bowling attack again.

I am all for being positive, believe me, but 15 match losing streak over 15 years is a little too much psychologically even as a fan, so you can imagine what it must be like being a player.

A fine post sir.

If we can somehow score 400 in the first innings, which will require centuries from two of our remaining batsmen, the game is ours.

:)) this is going to be an interesting game. 60-40 to Pakistan only because we can lose a game from the best of stages.

That's why I put 400 as the very maximum lol.

A 50 each by two batsman and a few more runs off other batsmen and that would bring up the 300. Not a particularly hard target for a batting side, even Pakistan's.

400 is pretty hard though.

So what is the most do you guys think we can chase in the fourth innings against Aus? 150? That means needing a lead of 150 at the very least in this innings (238 all out) and then bowling Aus out for 300 in the second. Doable?

You really don't think we can win this, do you?

Is it that obvious?

Yes. My screen almost went black because of the darkness of the pessimism.

Seriously though, I think they can definitely get up to 300. I'm not sure how the Aussies will bat in the second innings. Never know what to expect from them.

I have been a fan of Pakistan cricket for all those 15 years. I have watched almost every single ball of the 15 lost matches.

Yet when we were given a world record chase in the last game, I was confident of victory. Even though we lost that.

And in this match, leading the Australians by 60 runs with 7 wickets in hand after bowling them out for 88 at the end of the day 1.

If you want to say that we won't win this. You'll probably convince some other posters. I can bet it won't work with me. ;-)

I apologize for causing you computer troubles. But seriously, I agree I should be more positive but with the way I've seen us bat lately has left me with no confidence in our ability to close out a team like Aussies. But you're right this nightmare of losing to Aus over and over again has to end at some point. Why not this week then?

Tomorrow Mornings session will be the key, if we can bat that out without losing a wicket, then we have a big chance of putting up a big lead.

Need Akmal to play carefully as well as Amin

But I never wrote anywhere that we can't win this. Someone else might have but I am pretty sure I didn't. Just like you I was also confident that we would win the first test even though we were chasing a historical target, I always think we can win from impossible situations. What I was wondering in my post above was what target does everyone think we can chase successfully in the fourth innings.

But you have to admit losing to these same guys over the years is bound to have left a mark on our players, don't you think?

No, I don't think that. If that was the case I really don't think we would have bowled them out for less than 100.

And yes, you haven't wrote that we won't win this. But all of your posts suggest that.

A glorious day for Salman Butt and his cornered tigers. Tomorrow will seal the fate of this Test match inshaAllah!
