No you don't, that's a BS cricket cliche. You play your best combination depending on who's in form - Pakistan didn't persist with Sohail Tanvir in the T20WC win in 2009 because they felt 'they needed a whole series to judge him'. If you're bowling rubbish you get cut from the team, simples.
