Imam isn't any world beater either. He scores only when it does not matter. He is a big choker as we saw in the last game. His stats are boosted by playing on pindi highway. He is yet to do anything of note in test cricket.

He has way more potential than Masood. He is 26 & he is yet to peak as a batsman while Masood is 33 & still rubbish.

I’m glad that the management recognizes this & always prefer Imam in spite of the propaganda by deluded Masood fans.

Babar Azam's captaincy also came under the scanner and during a pre-match press conference, the skipper was asked whether the leadership role has had an impact on his performance.

However, Babar wasn't too pleased with the question and threw a counter-question towards the reporter: “Aapko lagta hai meri performance pe farak pad raha hai? (Do you think it is impacting my performance?),” Babar asked.

When the reporter clarified that she meant it in terms of team's overall performance, Babar explained that the side has faced a number of injuries throughout the series that has had a negative impact.

“Hamne jitne Test match khele hain, hamne dominate kiya hai. Ham struggle kar rahe hain kyunki injuries kafi ho gayi hai, hamaara combination disturb hua hai jiski vajah se results nahi aa rahe. (We have dominated in both Tests. We struggled because our players got injured and it disturbed our combination. That's why we didn't get the desired results)," Babar said.

“Dono matches hamaare haath me the, ham finish nahi kar paaye. As a team, hamein kaam karna hai situation pe aur pressure me hamein cheezo ko kaise apni taraf laana hai. Aisa nahi hai ki kisi ek bande se team haar rahi hai, meri vajah se kuch aisa ho raha hai. Koshish ye hi hoti hai ki best XI khilaayi jaaye aur unse kaam liya jaaye. Players support kar rahe hain. (Both games were in our hands but we couldn't finish. As a team, we have to work on playing under pressure. It isn't as if we are losing because of one player. We always try to play our best XI and make the best use of it)

So both Babar and imam full of excuses, no wonder team continues to go backwards. The fact Babar keeps snapping at tough questions shows how mentally weak he is and can't handle the pressure.

Don't think we should be selecting players just on the basis of "Potential". Domestic performances should be the sole criteria for selection and i think there are openers with better domestic stats than imam. Masood,on the other hand, is pretty mediocre i agree. Both do not belong in pakistan's test squad. Imam if i remeber correctly also failed in tests in england because he got technically exposed and he also failed in county season.

Abdullah Shafique says hi.

So Imam to miss it, walking wicket Shan comes in, he can take solace that Anderson is not playing

Pakistan have scored 270+ in 1st inns once in the last 6 test and that was in Roadpindi, if your not going to put up decent 1st inns totals in tests then you are going to be chasing the game, unless that changes they will be losing here again.

Imam doubtful
Shaheen out
Haris Rauf out
Naseem Shah out

Not looking great is it.

England in 4 days I reckon.

Not sure this is true — in fact, I know it is not true.
There have been many really good Test players who had pretty average first class careers.
Of the top of my head, both Michael Vaughan and Marcus Trescothick were picked on their potential rather than their domestic first class performances.
David Gower is another example.
The key things is to have a selectors who have an eye for a player and his character — a point repeatedly emphasised by Hussain and Fletcher when they revitalised English cricket.
Having a selector who thinks he’s clever because he owns a laptop is a recipe for disaster.

This is truly delusional.

23 years old
Played 9 tests, 3 hundreds, 4 fifties and a average over 60.

Who would you regard is not a “softie” ?
(any player, past or present….?)

Most of those runs came on flat highways of pindi. He always goes missing when his team needs him. Only time he scored useful runs was in srilanka test. Otherwise he just plays for his average and gets out when the team needs him the most. He also has lots of technical deficiencies which will be exposed outside asia.
