While your idealism is admirable, the reality is different. Karachi has a well documented history, going back several decades, of crying bloody murder if their players are not in the team whether they're good enough or not. The fact that the likes of Sami, Sarfraz Ahmad and Faisal Iqbal, in the last ten years alone, managed to play 70 tests between the three of them due to undue pressure is testament to that fact. Afridi still manages to get into the team solely due to pressure from Karachi media(Geo Super and their 'experts').

This regionalism may be undesired, it may be counterproductive, but it exists and there's no two ways about it.
