Pakistan v Sri Lanka | 1st Test - Day 2 | Karachi | 22/2/09

Rather then appreciate the bowlers giving their heart and trying to bowl smart, it's not wise to compare them with the legends like Waqar and Wasim. Oh and as far as Akhtar goes, he wouldn't be even able to bowl more then 10 overs on this pitch, if at all...

Smart is subjective. Bottomline is they still havent picked up wickets. And the only they are going to do this is by putting in some real effort and bowling faster in the attempt to take wickets.

As far as Akhtar is concerned, i remember he only bowled 11 overs for Pak in one test match once but took for 4/36 and single handedly turned the match in our favor and it was the most defining difference b/w the two teams.

I would rather Pakistan not play cricket if we have to see bowlers bowling at 124-127 km/hr for the entire day and then be applauded for bowling smart even though they didnt pick any wickets. An insult to our legacy of fast bowling.

For someone who has made it to the top level - Sohail has awful lot of problems.

And man the umpiring has been torrid. Another stone dead plumb LBW not given. Wow.

was that a ODI? cuz test matches has 2 innings and you need to take 20 wickets to win a match. i think 4 wickets won't do anything and one bowler short is like team is missing one leg. which we have been used to by now

0/115 looks terrible but it should be 3/115. 2 dropped catches and plumb LB not given.

ABSOLUTE BS.

Finally a good chance and stupid umpire loses it!

STUFF LIKE THIS MAKES ME SO ANGRY.

ya.. because all three stumps were visible when umpire saw it.. his initial thought would have been "ball hitting outside the offstump".

hahahaha bro stop using ur heart and start using some brain and u will find the answer. If you are comparing Gul to wasim and waqar then u r making a big mistake. Gul is the best bowler we have in all form of cricket. right now we can't afford to lose gul and ask him to bowl over 140 cuz some pakpassion poster wants to look at speed gun rather then at the conditions

Gul is the spearhead of the attack. He is suppossed to be the best bowler on display, he is suppossed to set an example for the other bowlers in the line up. He has to lead them, he has to show them how its done, he has to have answers for all the different types of situations, this pitch still has something, its not like a complete graveyard, i have seen worse pitches then these and still seen Akhtar blow away the opposition.

If Gul cannot deliver when Pakistan needs him to, then he shouldnt be playing. Same excuse was used for defending Brett Lee's showing in India that he is bowling intelligently by restricting his speeds to 135-137 km/hr by not risking any injury by trying to bowl much faster. It made no difference in the end, Australia still lost the series and Lee failed as the strike bowler.

This is rubbish, dont bowl fast, dont try to take wickets because the pitch is flat and youl get injured. If Gul is supremely fit unlike Akhtar then he shouldnt even need to take these shortcuts.

True that Sohail hasn't been the best but he has been quite unlucky. He has gotten 3 decisions against him.

I think that was the match in SA where he got injured after the first inning. He had altercation with Bob in that match too.

The unchangable fact is it was a test match in South Africa, Port Elizabeth. Akhtar's performance for the first day was the main reason why Pakistan ended up bowling South Africa out for 120 runs and eventually winning the test match.

Actually 2 plumb decision were turned down by Davis

Bro, we need to give our team some time to gel together. Waqar and Waseem weren't instant legends, it takes time to develop that status. If you are saying Gul is not a good bowler, that's not very fair considering he is definitely one of our top bowlers at the moment.

I don't doubt Akhtar's ability when he was in him prime. The unfortunate thing is that time is gone and we can't be living in the past.

Not playing any game will only hinder the team moving forward. It's not very realistic to expect to replace legends like Waqar and Waseem instantly.

The umpire should have seen all three stumps and that hits the pads and he says going down legside. Completely incompetent!!!

Cork is bringing about some good points about Sohail. Too bad we have an idiot in Aaqib Javed for a bowling coach.

Sad thing is our legends are happy to coach other countries but not countrymen as they dont want others to match them. same story in squash with jansher, jahangir

It is funny that we are just tearing up sohail apart but if he was lucky he could be sitting with 3 wkts and we would all be praises.

Haha, and to think he was complaining about not being in the ODI side too

He shouldn't even have a central contract as far as I'm concerned. I would rather have Afridi!

Sawma. and Jaya. are 16 runs behin Aamer SOhail and Ijaz Ahmed record patnership

Kaneria is one player for which I've run out of patience for. We keep talking pace but we need to find a new spinner as much as anything.

Khatmal can't keep on a medium pacer let alone Afridi.

Kaneria has successfully overtaken Harbhajan with 33rd centuries. Just that he is the fastest to reach 33rd century by a long way. 52 tests.

If I didn't know better I wouldn't know who's the part timer - Kaneria or Malik.

SL starting to accelerate rr.
this getting ugly unless we get lucky or the umpires are able to give out on LBW apeals

who took rest of the 16 wickets? did akthar take them from dressing room? where they playing at karachi pitch? if this match was being played at fast pitch result would've been different(thats my point)

Time to head out. This test is getting dead boring. No pace, spin, or anything.

I think SL will declare after lunch. Actually they will play till lunch that is my thought because of the way they are playing...trying to hit

Seriously I think Younis Khan would do a better job bowling! This has gotta be the last chance for Kaneria! How long will he continue to be a passenger for?

Asif took some wickets too and think Nazir and Danish (NOt sure about Nazir and Danish)

No chance ... They will play till after Tea. Tire the Pakistanis like anything.

this is the same Gul who was fighting alone against england in england and now u r bashing him on a dead pitch

ongoing problem is players not getting chance when in form and inclded afterwards.
same thing happening to nasir, ahmed, talha, aamir

Didn't you guys have a bowler named Rahman? whatever happened to him? Looking back he seemed to have taken 8 fer against SA on this ground.

They might play till the Tea and put Pakistan in for a tricky period to take some wickets...although, I think the more likely scenario is to play until Lunch and try to get to 625+ before then.

Shahid Nazir the ICL guy has miles better swing that Sohail

shahid nazir will still perform better than these as he has a thinking brain on his shoulders

We do have him. Abdur Rehman is his name. Last time he played was probably because of Malik Sifarish because both of them are from Sialkot

loll they should start bowling yorkers with spinners and everyone eventually they will miss one loll

But it will prob be called a no-ball the way things are going! :malik

This Davies umpire is a piece of work. so many mistakes in the first 2 days of the test.
Is he the worst of elite umpires or is he a good friend of Hair?

They would if they constantly can....although, with our luck, it can become a full toss and go for sixes...

The most amazing thing about Kaneria is that his average is still in the low 30s. I think he should retire after this game.

No he was only called over to show the aussies that Pakistan is safe, nothing to do with how good an umpire he is.
Look everyone there are two aussies in a test match in Pakistan.
