My Playing Eleven would be :

1. Azhar Ali
2. Imam ul Haq
3. Mohammad Hafeez
4. Babar Azam
5. Haris Sohail
6. Asad Shafique
7. Sarfraz Ahmed
8. Faheem Ashraf
9. Bilal Asif
10. Yasir Shah
11. Mohammad Abass

Not a fan of Bilal. I believe Ashiq and Ahmed esp Ahmer Ejaz need to be groomed. But at present Bilal is experienced enough.

Wahab has terrible game for Pakistan A hence he would miss out for Me (unfortunately) otherwise his pace is handy. Junaid Khan should have played for Pakistan A if his knees have completely recovered. He has fine test record in subcontinent.

Above batting order is non-negotiable.

Above line up gives you plenty of bowling options as well as batting depth. Would rather have had a specialist left arm spinner but there isn't one in the squad so Haris will come in handy.

Hafeez's selection is regrettable but he has a short term use in UAE and given the nature of his call up he will almost certainly play.

Wahab is a risk but one worth taking in the UAE, especially with the above line up (it has other options in case he is blowing cold). He also provides the left arm option.

I suspect management will have Shadab play ahead of Bilal (assuming he is fit) but that would be a mistake in my opinion.

So that's only two left-handers which keeps Lyon out for a bit, seven batsmen, new and old ball pacer, two offie's, and a leggie.

Imam ul Haq
Azhar Ali
Haris Sohail
Babar Azam
Mohammad Hafeez
Asad Shafiq (At his origional position)
Sarfraz Ahmed
Yasir Shah
Shadab Khan
Wahab Riaz (Need him to take wkts)
Mohammad Abbas

This would give us great bowling options having 2 fast bowlers with 3 spinners + haris sohail

Nvm. Fakhar comes in, Babar goes out. Haris has no business being in the side either but Babar is the bigger problem right now.

11. Abbas/Shadab

I'm confused whether to play Shadab or not. We already have 3 spin options - Yasir, Hafeez, Haris.

And then I'm also not sure if Abbas will have any use in the UAE. He's good outside Asia.

If you look closely at your team, you only have one fast bowler. That will never work dude. And nobody opens their bowling with a harmless allrounder aka Faheem.

You too have only one fast bowler. That doesn't work.

Imam playing Tests already?

What happened to players grinding it out for a years in ODI before making a Test debut?

Such a joke.

Babar Azam is not a Test level player.

Will be thrashed by Aus, poor squad.

1.Imam Ul Haq
2.Fakhar Zaman
3.Azhar Ali

Ideal playing XI from the squad

1.Azhar
2.Imam
3.Babar
4.Asad
5.Haris
6.Shadab
7.Bilal Asif
8.Sarfaraz(C)(WK)
9.Hasan Ali

Probable XI

1.Azhar
2.Imam
3.Hafeez
4.Babar
5.Shafiq
6.Haris
7.Sarfaraz(C)(WK)
8.Shadab
9.Yasir
10.Wahab Riaz

1.Azhar ( He is in bad form but I hope he will get back his form)
2.Fakhar (For sure)
3.Imam
4.Hafeez (He will be suitable in those condition)
5.Babar ( He needs to find his rhythm first then we can bring him up order)
6.Asad (He plays well in that position)
7.Sarfaraz
8.Bilal Asif
9.Yasir
10.Mir Hamza (Best option better than Wahab)
11.Abbas

They have to pick a XI from that list of 18!, so lots of options indeed.

My team'll be

Imam, Azhar
Haris, Asad, Babar, MoHa
Sarfraz,
Sadab, Yasir, Wahab, Abbas.

This is not a bad team considering the players' pool, but I would have taken Gohar for Shadab - MoHa stays to prove a point. Between Bilal & Shadab, I actually will pick Shadab - if it's not happening through proper way, at least picking Shadab is a future investment, Bilal just don't make any sense.

By 2nd Test, Sarfraz should get "injured" and Rizwan comes to keep while Asad goes for Toss.

Azhar
Imam
Haris
Babar

Fakhar
Sarfaraz
Shadab
Hasan
Yasir
Abbas

Shadab is mediocre but he's better than Asif.

Why the hell are people suggesting the chucker Hafeez? He's ordinary when he bowls legally. Fakhar and Haris can both easily bowl 10-20 overs between them.

Shadab is still recovering from his injury and will most probably not feature in the first test match.

So expect Bilal Asif to play.

Just being realistic; he's going to play.

They better not adjust the batting order of the top five to accommodate him.

Damn if Shadab is injured then Faheem will have to play

1. Imam ul-Haq
2. Azhar Ali
3. Haris Sohail
4. Asad Shafiq
5. Babar Azam
6. Mohammad Hafeez
7. Sarfraz Ahmed*+

We should use this opportunity to groom a younger player (Usman) since Hafeez can play as the 4th bowler

Marnus Labuschagne likely to replace Matt Renshaw in first Test

Australia is likely to field three debutants with the chance of a fourth when the tourists face Pakistan in the first Test in Dubai starting on Sunday.

Batsmen Marnus Labuschagne, Aaron Finch and Travis Head are in line to be called up, while Michael Neser is up against veteran quick Peter Siddle for a place in the side.

The team drew a four-day game against Pakistan A on the ICC Academy Oval, with Australia scoring 4-494 declared and Pakistan all out for 278 before making 7-261 in the second innings before play was halted.

Coach Justin Langer was very happy with the preparation, saying the Australians had adapted well to the heat and had some good individual and collective results.

The one concern is over Matt Renshaw, who was hit on the helmet while fielding and was substituted with concussion for Labuschagne.

"I think Matt Renshaw's injury has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works," Langer said.

"We've got a few more days to have a good chat about it, we've got another couple of training sessions. Hopefully the team we put out for the first Test will be as strong as we can put out.

"I think Matt Renshaw will be physically fine, the problem he's got is he hasn't played much cricket.

"He went to the Australian A tour and got a hamstring strain, missed a fair bit of cricket on the tour … that's going to be the issue for him."

Labuschagne scored an unbeaten 39 in Australia's sole innings after standing in for Renshaw.

"I'll also say this … in the history of Australian cricket a lot of people take their opportunity [that comes] through injury," Langer said.

"So he's certainly put a strong case forward for selection as well."

Finch, Head certain to start

While Labuschagne looks a likely starter, Finch and Head will definitely make their debuts on Sunday.

"There was never any doubt with those two with me, they were certainties to play," Langer said.

"He's playing really well, and he's one of the leaders of our group. And Travis Head, his improvement over the … last six months has been absolutely amazing.

"Look at him now he looks like an AFL footy player, he's really fit, the way he's adapted his game and improved his game, particularly against spin.

"He's really impressed and he deserves to have a Baggy Green cap."

Nathan Lyon and Jon Holland will be providing the spin for Australia after the pair combined for 15 wickets against Pakistan A.

But the bowling battle for selection seems to be between Neser and Peter Siddle.

Langer said Bulls seam bowler Neser had done a good job in the match, with bowling figures of 0-29 and 1-30.

"And then we weigh up 211 Test wickets [for Siddle], and a guy who's bowling really well and a real professional," he said.

The question of how much help the bowlers will get from the Test wicket remains a live one.

"I think there were 21 wickets fell in four days, I hope it's not going to be that flat [for the Test]," Langer said.

"But to be fair it was what we expected here in Dubai — and a lot of the wickets you play in the subcontinent, they're very, very flat and then it happens very quickly towards the end of the game."

Langer did say that he didn't expect much grass on the wicket, and given that Pakistan possess some very good leg-spinners he expected the ball to turn.

Mitchell Marsh grabbed the headlines with a brilliant 162 and Head scored an unbeaten 90 in Australia's 4-494 (declared), while Finch made 54 and Labuschagne scored 39 not out.

Former Australia paceman Damien Fleming has tipped Michael Neser to debut in next week's first Test against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates, while also expressing his surprise at the omission of Victoria quick Chris Tremain from the squad.

Bulls seamer Neser was picked alongside spearhead Mitchell Starc for Australia's one-off tour match against Pakistan A, and while he took just one wicket, he bowled with impressive pace and accuracy, leaving coach Justin Langer to ponder a tight selection call between the 28-year-old and veteran paceman Peter Siddle for the second fast-bowling spot in the first Test in Dubai, beginning Sunday.

"(Neser) impressed us, he always does," Langer said. "He has a red-hot dip every time he plays, he's a good fielder, he's brilliant around the team.

"We weigh up 211 Test wickets and a guy (Siddle) who's bowling really well, a real professional. He's been a veteran. The role he'd play with his experience, we (selectors) have got to talk really seriously about that."

Fleming, who debuted with seven wickets – including a hat-trick – in the similarly oppressive climate of Pakistan in 1994 and went on to play six Tests in Asia, said the Queenslander's skills were well-suited to the conditions.

"Over there you want someone who swings it – you want to use the new ball for the two or three overs it (swings), and then use reverse swing," Fleming told cricket.com.au.

"That might open the door for Michael Neser.

"He bowls a cracking outswinger and with that whippy action it seems natural for reverse swing. He's also a gun fielder and bats really well.

"People also say he's a cracking bloke and I think he might be the sort of guy 'Alfie' (Langer) likes."

Both Neser and Tremain performed strongly in the four-day matches of Australia A's recent tour of India, with the South African-born Bulls paceman ultimately getting the nod for the Test squad over his Victorian counterpart, who has been the standout quick in the Sheffield Shield for the past two seasons with 129 wickets at 20.39.

"I'm surprised Tremain didn't get picked, because he bowls a lot of reverse swing," Fleming said. "Three (Shield) seasons with a lot of wickets and bowling a lot at the MCG. He's also quite hostile and can handle the bat."

While Fleming was impressed with the qualities offered by young fast bowler Brendan Doggett, and suggested Peter Siddle should be in the frame for next year's Ashes in England, he feels Neser will best complement Starc.

Starc only played one match in the two-Test series in the UAE four years ago, taking two wickets, but in somewhat similar conditions in Sri Lanka in 2016 he excelled, taking 24 wickets in three Tests – the most by an Aussie quick in a Test series in Asia.

"Starc's one of those freakish bowlers who can take the pitch out of the equation, because of his speed, the angles he creates and his ability to swing the ball," Fleming added. "Even the inconsistencies in his release can make him a little bit ugly to face, so he'll be a regular wicket-taking threat over there."

My team for the first test is

1.Imam ul haq
2.Azhar ali
3.Haris sohail
4.Mohammad hafeez
5.Babar azam
6.Asad shafiq
7.sarfraz ahmed(wk)
8.Bilal asif
9.Wahab riaz
10.yasir shah
11.Mohammad Abbas

Seems to be the most balanced squad for me. What do you think?

Imam ul Haq
Azhar Ali
Haris Sohail
Babar Azam
Mohammad Hafeez
Asad Shafiq (At his origional position)

This would give us great bowling options having 2 fast bowlers with 3 spinners + haris sohail

I would replace shadab with Bilal asif, other wise its a decent and balanced squad for these conditions .. Shadab doesent seems fit at the moment so its better to go with bilal asif i think.

Why does everyone say HAfeez should be nowhere near a Pakistan squad, but then everyone includes him in their teams?

[MENTION=138980]TalentSpotterPk[/MENTION]

You too have only one fast bowler. That doesn't work.

I have Faheem Ashraf & Mohammad Abbass as two pacers in my line up. Faheem has all the ingredients to become quality Pak Left Arm Fast Medium genuine Test allrounder. I have him in playing eleven ahead of Wahab because Wahab has a very poor outing against Australia for Pak A otherwise for 1st Test I would have Wahab in playing eleven ahead of Faheem.

Main job wrt bowling would be done by Yasir, Bilal, Hafeez & Abass while Haris & Azhar can chip in aswell.

Shadab doesnt seem fit at the moment thats why i think it is better to rest him (plus an offspinner who turns the ball will give you an added variety) .And you need an offspiner who turns the ball especially against Australlia who have 6 left handers.Hafeez doesnt spin the ball but he is accurate and he will dry up the runs and build pressure so a minumum of 2 spinners are required in UAE who can TURN the ball.

I would have rested fakhar for now because he is out of form and let him play domestic cricket score a pile of runs and then have him back for the newzealand tour.Fakhar his lacking confidence so i think its wise not to play him now as there will be a risk he will struggle so i wouldnt take that risk.

Diplo and his team will have a pretty decent chance vs this Pakistan side which has been dodgy in UAE in recent times. Just the boost Australia needs after all the tragedies in the team. This will kickstart a cricketing revolution by this young Aussie side.

Pakistan as per usual persisting with villains like Hafeez, this team is not going anywhere.

Australia is particularly weak at the moment. Pakistan should win comfortably

Australia should play

Finch
Renshaw
Shaun marsh
Marnus labuschagne
Travis head
Mitchell marsh
Tim Paine
Neser
Starc
Lyon
Holland

They'll still get smashed but they shouldn't play a hack like khwaja who's terrible against spin.

err no..they are seasoned and have a good setup..they will be getting some good batting pitches against a team that is pretty weak at the moment..I expect them to deal out some damage..

More overconfidence from fans going into a series

Full expect the Aussies to give us a real tough series

Nathan Lyon will be more potent than our spinners and their batting line up is still better than our brittle one

Looking at that Aussie line up there are literally only 3 good test players - Senior Marsh, Lyon and Starc.

Pak should win by an innings. Yasir should get a 10fer.

You need not to underestimate pak's flop shows v aus ,they can lose to them even if aus play thier AUS A side:ashwin

Shaun Marsh, Lyon and Starc. Those are the 3 players I mentioned.

Mitch Marsh is a good ODI player. But he's a very mediocre test player. Batting avg of 27 and bowling avg of 42 even after 28 tests.

We have to play with 6 regular batsmen including Hafeez who can bowl 15-12 overs in a day. Bilal edges it out for me because of Shahdab's recent poor form.
