What's new

Pakistan vs New Zealand | 3rd ODI | Dubai | Nov 11, 2018 | Pakistan Innings

Babar needs to learn how to play when there is no early wicket. Often times he has come at a good scorecard and struggled to get going rotate strike especially against good line ups

Seems like teams who win batting first in UAE ODIs go at 4.7-4.8 RPO for the first 30 overs, leave themselves wickets in hand, and treat the last 20 overs as a T20 to get 260-270.

Pak batsmen look more restless in ODIs inside 30 overs than they do in the last 4 overs of T20s

He's still world class but I feel he hasn't improved much.

Give the guy a break. Babar is still just 24 and he will add another dimension in an year or two. He has all the basics and is working as hard as anyone. He is scoring runs at ease. We can't ask anything more from him.

At times, Fakhar struggles to rotate/is lazy against legspinners.

Babar is way too slow batting at SR 50 while Fakhar is reckless probably trying to compensate for his partner's lethargic innings, not a good strategy which will bring his demise.

Why cant pressure releasing strokes be ground strokes in gaps?

I wouldn't drop Fakhar or anything but this passage of play just shows the top players are 1s who can score all round the wicket.

You watch, even if Pakistan find a belligerent batsman to partner Fakhar, he will become reluctant and become the accumulator

Wicket is not at all that good as some were saying. Ball isnt coming onto the bat nicely

Selfish batting by Babar now cost us Fakhar!!!! Micky should give ultimatum to Babar to rotate the strike and not to waste too many balls.

Pressure back on us now after 2 good overs for NZ. Come on Babar. You need to show some intent now.

Babar and Imam use too much leverage due to fakhar which puts pressure on him. Irrespective of how Fakhar is playing atleast go at a SR of 85

This is Haris chance to get a run in the ODI side. If he doesn't perform, I'm sure Inzi will drop him for Imam in the next ODI.

Not good from Fakhar but he had to do something because Babar was batting in test match mode.

Wicket has really slowed down making stroke play difficult.
Also hard to pick up gaps.

Wicket usually speeds up under lights which is why this is a chasing ground.

We’ll have to really bowl and field well to win this one.

Pakistan have the disadvantage of batting firdt on this ground as its harder to bat during the day and gets easier under lights so nothing less than 300 needed for pak

Underlights might give some more movement with the new ball as well.

How someone who averages 57 in the last 10 games isn't a regular in this side is beyond me. And then I am told Inzi is our greatest ever selector:))

300 from here would require a big innings from either Haris or Babar

Hopefully for SA series,Babar is opening and Haris at 3. I'll be happy with that.

Haris needs to make the most of this opportunity.

I have the feeling they will avoid bowling Ferguson to him; it's his job to make them.

Inzi doesnt pick up the playing XI. And Haris remains injured most of the time.

Inzi selects him in the squad everytime however team management are trying to get a 100 out of Malik

He is a starter. He should not be on the bench. Would love to know who is responsible for him not starting.

So what about Babar Azam who has arguably regressed since debut?

Babar's been on a golden T20I run, and scored fifties in two of his last three Tests. Should've scored a hundred against Australia. In ODIs I worry about his record against nonminnows, slow SR at the start of his innings and taking responsibility in pressure situations. He does seem soft at times but you can't coach mental strength. But age is on his side and for our pathetic batting standards he's the best young batsman we have.

I don't get what people think a batting coach at international level can do besides subtle adjustments. If a batsman doesn't have the ability, they don't have what it takes no matter what a coach tells them. You don't see many international batsmen making major technical changes, especially if they're in their late 20s/early 30s when their technique and movements become muscle memory after years of routine.

We've had countless national team batting coaches since 2000 and our batting culture remains mediocre as ever, maybe that suggest there's something more important to fix than sacking Flower.

Haris is batting with intent, nice to see.

So Gail knows he must do something extraordinary to get the long rope especially with Imam around the corner

Fair enough but I still feel that we should try some other batting coach.

Haris already showing he is a level ahead pf Hafeez and Malik and also how important it is to have that right left combination going

Babar needs to maintain an 80 strike rate in this sheet anchor's role.

Now Babar's tuk tuk will cost Haris's wicket. What a selfish players we are getting.

I’m sorry but Babar needs to open and approach this as if it’s a T20

His ODI batting is very outdated regardless of his inflated average and statistics

God knows why Haris has been on the bench.

He was our best batsman in the New Zealand whitewash but we dropped him from the ODI team after having a couppe of bad T20s in Zimbabwe.

Hafeez or Imam. Imam isn't an ODI player and Hafeez is past his best.

Haffez’s bowling is needed against lefties by Sarfaraz and Imam has scored 4 100s since his debut so not an easy call.
