Cricinfo hasn't reported anything regarding Asif's injury or for that matter even a niggles. Cricinfo has only said:

So Pakistan will rely on Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Sami, Danish Kaneria and possibly recall Shahid Nazir. Noises are emerging that Asif has already been overworked, having bowled nearly 90 overs thus far in the series. Kaneria has bowled 40 more and only a few days on from their gargantuan efforts at Port Elizabeth, it is a considerable concern.

inzi was chatting...
what 2 changes?
they only had change and thats nazir

but pak lose toss and bat first

batsmen need to hit 700 here

also it gives asif some more rest
he should be able to rest till tomorow eevening provided everything goes as planned

Same test team playing for Pakistan except Nazir in for Akhtar.....Means, same Farhat and Hameed...both would be giving the slip cordon another healty practice session!

Pitch looks like the death trap. Green in the middle looks like perfect for bowling short balls. We all know how we have fared against short bowling not to mention the hook shot.
Seems Saffies have a plan to win this one

This will be the biggest test for Pakistani batsmen on this tour.

Let us support our batsmen as they go in harms way and face the barage of short balls ...

8.10am Robin Jackman is going through his pitch report, and he is gobsmacked by the strip he's being asked to talk about. The top end is completely shaved, the middle is as green and tufty as a martian's chest hair. It's like Edgbaston 1995, with extra uneven bounce to boot. Everyone - players, administrators, press and assorted extras have been out there gawping at it. Who knows what the captain who wins the toss will do

what is gobsmacked? is it shocked? anyone please? I am from the Yellow school (-:

Another cricinfo update

8.20am Table Mountain has a thick table-cloth of cloud sitting on top of it, and it's a fairly overcast morning to add to Pakistan's woes as they prepare to bat on one of the most suspicious-looking pitches in Test history.

And to think we'll have Imran Farhat and Yasir Hameed in our top 3. Doesnt sound too great

pitch really looks difficult...a score of 400 or 350 is out of question here in first innings...at most we should expect a 275-300 score even that might mean alot!!

the good thing is that South African bowling looks weak..only Ntini & Steyn looks the real wicket takers...if our batsmen just see of spells from these two bowlers then they can hope for a good first innings score!..Hall,Kallis or Harris r not much of a threat!

You are right, definitely a death plan here, in the middle they have left the grass for their pacers knowing very well, that we dont have Akhtar for bouncers and Asif rely on the seam and he pitches too much up and full so he wont be getting any help from the shaved area and so like Danish but Steyn and Ntini would be distributing "Methaaaiaaan" among their supporters....

I posted 2 weeks ago that Cape town will be the fastest pitch of the 3 tests but someone said it is actually the slowest.
So what is correct. Please post who ever is watching it on TV.
From the sounds of it, it is fast with uneven bouce so God help us

haven't seen a pitch like that in ages!!...will be a real test for our batsmen.,..a big test for the likes of Inzi,Yousuf & Younis!!

I guess our biggest hope then is Sami in the bowling department and our batsmen prepared to duck and not go for a duck

come on Pak... Lets do this!!!

if the pitch is as lively as people are saying, wait till SA bat.... we will wrap it up a 3 days

is Shahid Nazir gonna extract something from this pitch...i think Rana would have been a better choice as he is much better at pitching the ball short which must be the requirement for bowlers on this wicket!

Good luck, Pak batsmen. You will need lots of it. Time for Farhat and Hameed to show some mettle.

Ok ... having seen the pitch report, it does not look very promising. So, how shall our batsmen go about the job???

* Play on a straight line. Watch for movement, but no chasing/flashing, please. (Can anyone take it to Imran Farhat, please!!!)

* Aim to stay in the middle. Runs will come on their own. It's key to see off the opening bowlers. SA does not have depth in their attack. Only Ntini is dangerous. Steyn and Hall have a total of 80 wickets between them. Harris is very new ... don't let him start dominating.

Let's hope all goes well ...

me thinks exactly the same and regarding on Ifzaal bhai, lets hope Farhat bhai and Hafeeez+Hameed leaves the pull shot in the dressing room today (-:

Good morning all, here we go one last time ,pakistan been asked to bat and with the pitch condition ........... it will be a challenge to score runs ,if we score somewhere arround 300 ,will be in good shape.
Good lucky to the team ....................... lets play ball.

Steyn to Mohammad Hafeez, FOUR, runs straightaway. That was a leg-stump half-volley, swinging gently onto the pads, and that scudded through midwicket all the way to the boundary

We need to persevere and score a few runs. South Africa will be in trouble if we do so.

0.3 Steyn to Hafeez, no ball, Steyn produces a beauty of a delivery on that occasion, good length delivery on the off, shaping away from the right hander, Hafeez comes on the frontfoot and looks to drive it on the up, misses it, all in vain, he oversteps on that occasion
0.2 Steyn to Hafeez, no run, good length delivery on the middle and leg, Hafeez shuffles across and flicks it away straight to the fielder at short mid wicket

0.6 Steyn to Hafeez, FOUR!!, Steyn strays down the leg side once again, Hafeez shuffles across and flicks it away to backward square leg for four, neat roll of the wrists on that shot, another boundary, great start for the Pakistanis here!!!

Rameez said that pakistan was thinking about resting Farhat ,rest for him he hasn't done anything at all..................

The pitch seems to be a horrid one.

Its horrible. I think a score of 250 would be pretty good. Only had Asif been bowlinf first on this track...he would run through them...

And they he followed it up by saying "but they decided to give him another chance." Indicating he meant dropped.

Pitch is looking bouncy and lively, all balls are rising.

Farhat just flashed and missed in his typical style, next ball he was back restraining himself.

I hve no problems in them playing slow. We just need a 450 plus score here.

Motley looking pitch, so liekly to be two paced and therefore possibly hard to score very quickly

On this pitch LBW will be hard to get unless really pitch full. Good length balls are also even rising to stomach height.

AB just dropped a difficult catch in slips curtousy of Farhat.
Last ball from Styn was 148kph

6.4 Steyn to Imran Farhat, no run, dropped! AB de Villiers at third slip dives but can't cling on. Would have been a classic catch, and it wasn't a bad ball either. Wide of the crease, angled in, took the shoulder off the bat. A let-off

Crap Hafeez is gone.
Hafeez looks good and comfortable but still gets out cheaply.

Well, Yasir in now. These two need to take us to 120 and the rest will have to come from the BIG 3.

Hafeez gone. People were calling for Farhat to be dropped but Hafeez hasn't exactly done much. Hope he scores in the 2nd innings.

13/1

Hafeez from replay seemed to have played across the line and edged the ball. If he had just played straight things would have been different.

Quite a bit of bounce. Amazing how these guys are still alive.

steyn isn't really troubling them .. he's bowling short and wide and pak batsmen are just being patient.

This is crazy, the last ball bounced from good length and hit Hameed on the chest.

Verrrrry bouncy pitch indeed.
