You're ignoring the magnitude of runs that Pakistan have to get here. If the required runs were about 30-40, then there was a case of turning down a single off the first 2-3 balls. Not when you require more than 90 runs. Plus you have to trust your partner that a number 8/9 batsman has it in him to last 5 deliveries in an over. Amir and Yasir aren't complete duds although Amir is against an off spinner.

Even 20 runs target won't get if the tail gets out. It's not about bating capability, in that case 50/5 won't happen to end like 250/7.

Simple logic you see - SRL is happy to concede a single to Asad & the reason you have just seen - of all types, Yasir is Stumped, because he is not tuned to take the pressure of facing a full over; that's why he bats at 9 - otherwise hitting couple of boundaries ins't the only batting capacity.

Well done SRL - Congrats. I always felt it was easier to chase 317 rather than batting 100 overs - so, yes; have to say that 50 in 32 overs cost PAK this Test; icing on the cake was 50/5. This will happen even if the target is 117, if you have 5 Azhar clones in line up - top 3 adds 25-35% with the target on 4th innings.

This is typical Shafiq - score soft runs when the game is lost, usually happens when his place in the side is under threat too.

On quality, this one has to be Asad's top or 2nd best 100; but his approach was wrong. Should have started to protect Amir - had they blocked for half an hour with a single in every over, I am sure SRL wuld have started to panic. Also, the trick Asad missed (which was Steve's key), once you start to take a single on 4th/5th ball, Captain tends to pull fielders in after 3rd/4th ball - that gives a boundary hitting opportunity.
