The Pakistan vs Sri Lanka schedule was confirmed today and the teams will play 2 tests, 5 ODI's and 3 T20I's.

According to the ICC rankings predictor, a 2-0 test series win for Pakistan would take us up to 4th place and I would say this is a very possible result. Anything less than a 2-0 win will see us remain 6th and if we lose the series we will go below Sri Lanka to 7th place. 4th place is very possible and I would be happy with that as we would go above Australia and New Zealand.

As for T20s, if other results go our way, we could go as high as 2nd. The predictor doesn't include the third T20 as the venue is subject to clearance ie Lahore so maybe a 3-0 sweep and we could even go to number 1.

Wow that means we can easily break into the Top 4 of Test rankings, as beating Sri Lanka 2-0 in UAE shouldn't be a difficult task.

What about the World XI series? Will it count or not in the ICC T20 Rankings.

Don't think it will. Makes sense as rankings depend on the strength of the opposition, how do you determine the strength of the World XI etc.? Not sure about individual performances but then again, I don't think too many people care about T20I rankings.

Extremely difficult, if you play on wickets like the Abu Dhabi one. SRL lost 3-0 at home to IND & it could have been 3 innings defeats - still it's possible for them to get away with 0-0 because of the venues.

Dubai is a D/N Test where last time WI took it to half way of 15th session, therefore it's possible for SRL to bat couple more hours, while recent Abu Dhabi wicket is probably the worst that I have seen ever for Test cricket & I have seen lot. It's possible to kick around at 2.13 rate for 2 days on such wickets, even by tail enders. Sharjah is probably the most lively wicket, if anything such exists in UAE & there is at least some spectator coming to Sharjah for Test - so obviously no wonder that PCB has excluded Sharjah for Test.

Now, we'll have lots of discussion why Amir isn't running through that poor Lankan top order with new ball and why Yasir is needing 85 overs to get 6 wickets.

Pakistan v Sri Lanka series scenarios:

  • Pakistan beat Sri Lanka 2-0 – Pakistan 97 points, Sri Lanka 86 points
  • Pakistan beat Sri Lanka 1-0 - Pakistan 95 points, Sri Lanka 87 points
  • Series drawn 1-1 or 0-0 – Pakistan 92 points, Sri Lanka 90 points
  • Sri Lanka beat Pakistan 1-0 – Sri Lanka 93 points, Pakistan 89 points
  • Sri Lanka beat Pakistan 2-0 – Sri Lanka 94 points, Pakistan 88 points

I knew, he'll bowl 85 overs at Abu Dhabi, actyally bowled 2 more, but to his credit did take 2 more wickets as well. Obviously Amir didn't run through the side.

I think, Dubai is D/N Test, so Herath won't run through PAK, but it's possible that SRL will be able to hang around for 250 overs. Didn't see, but scorecard tells Lakmal survived 50+ balls when Yasir was bowling through out from one end - now SRL has a 1-0 lead to kick around even more.

If I were SRL coach, I would have dropped Sandakan & play extra batsman. Dilruhan & Herath can bowl to contain at 2.3 rate, which should kill enough time under lights for PAK bowlers to take 20 wickets against one additional batsman.

Normally, I have seen cricket boards schedule 1st 1/2 Tests at venues that suits them most - Gabba/WACA, Durban/Port Elizabeth, Birmingham, Bridgetown, Gale, Christchurch ....... even now, BCB is putting 1st Test on absolute shocker of a wicket, which won't ever see Day 5, unless it rains for 2 days; while IND being a large country with lots of venues, it's not possible for BCCI to fix tour opener venue - BUT, last few years, their 1st Test was at Pune, Mohali ......

So, as my expectation, PCB gives the tourists Abu Dhabi as tour opener & this time it's a 2 Test series :) Good job done - Amir should be kicked out even from the squad.

Well this went out the window real quick, didn't it :srini

It's not easy to become a top 4 test side, let alone holding the no. 1 rank for almost an year :srini

Achieving greatness isn't everyone's cup of tea :ksi

Wow. This is the most accurate prediction of how this test would play out . Once again your insights are just wonderful.

No 4 here we come.. oh wait. Lesson is never underestimate anyone specifically if they play against Pakistan.

OK to have Dreams ... but winning the CT has inflated our thinking about our Team. We could climb up the Ranking ladder ... but not just yet.

Well it ain't easy as it looks. SL now have a chance to improve ranking as beating a team higher than them in ranking gets more points

I think fans and perhaps even team management didn’t gave too much chance to Sri Lanka prior to 1st test. Everyone were reading into 9-0 thumping at the hands of India and totally write off the Lankans. Well now it seems Pakistan is possibly lurking at first ever series defeat in UAE. :herath
