Regardless of our form the team is pretty much settled. All the players know their role.

I would go with this:

Fakhar Zaman
Imam ul Haq
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Sarfraz Ahmad (C) (WK)
Mohammad Hafeez
Asif Ali
Shadab Khan
Hasan Ali
Mohammad Amir
Wahab Riaz

Imad Wasim wont be much use with the ball in Nottingham.

He is priceless v windies. Bookmark this post

With all the 92 WC similarity threads, i sincerely hope that Imam doesn't end up emulating Ramiz's century from 92 (easily one of the most selfish innings i have ever seen) and then Gayle and Lewis following Lara and Haynes.

Completely agree with the posters who have advocated bowling first. Defending any score will be difficult on this pitch. Moreover, batting first the Windies can end up having one of their lazy days (where they self destruct) but chasing on these featherbeds, knowing the target, there is a good chance they will chase down any score. Despite what happened yesterday i would put my money on bowling first and getting Gayle and Lewis cheaply rather than them pillaging 100 off the first 10 in a chase and then having
Sarfaraz give up altogether.

I think there is just one open spot in the Pakistan XI where one of Malik, Sohail or Imad will/should play. Windies are likely to go with 4 pacers and one spinner (Cottrell, Roach, Gabriel, Holder and Nurse). Only way Pakistan are going to win this is if they knock out their top three within the first 15-20 overs.

I hate to be pessimistic but all signs point toward an epic thrashing of Pak bowlers.

If Pak gets a hammering against Wi, then they wont recover early and might go on loosing all the remaining matches.

It's not really pessimistic, Windies batsmen are showing form and murderous intent, while Pakistan's bowlers have been pathetic for a while now.

Trent bridge has not had a turning track in a while. I've seen some of the royal London matches which were played on Trent bridge, spinners were just bowling machines, bowling darts at 80kmph.

Then i am afraid the odds are against us. These west indian players have resurged big time. And they are playing terrific cricket at the right time. They might not win the world cup but in next 2-3 years we will see them beating top 3 sides regularly.

Anyone here with a bit of experience with Trent Bridge parking arrangements?

Planning to leave london around 7:00 pm and reach by 9:30. Anything I should be aware of?

Had another look at the scorecard of yesterday's warm-up game and WI bat very deep! Braithwaite at 9 and Ashley Nurse at 10. Both of them scored their runs at a SR in excess of 200. Ominous signs for the Pakistan side.

If Shai Hope play the anchor role with an average of 50+ in the group stages, they are going to defeat a few decent sides. One of the reasons why I think they're the dark horses in this WC.

That was a warm-up game with every squad member eligible to bat, that's why Brathwaithe was at 9.

They can't go with that slim bowling resources, Brathwaithe and Russell can't bowl 10 overs each. They will need an extra fast bowler.

Both will bat one position above with Carlos Brathwaithe at 8 and Ashely Nurse at 9.

Expected team:

1) Chris Gayle
2) Evin Lewis
3) Shai Hope(Wk)
4) Darren Bravo
5) Shimron Hetmyer
6) Jason Holder(C)
7) Andre Russell
8) Carlos Brathwaithe
9) Ashely Nurse
10) Kemar Roach
11) Sheldon Cotrell

I'd imagine they'd want to play Thomas or Gabriel against Pakistan.

I'd imagine they'd want to play Thomas or Gabriel against Pakistan.

But in place of who?

Roach is the leader of the bowling attack.

Cotrell gives them variety with left arm angle.

Brathwaithe increases their batting depth.

Don't think Thomas will play after the beating he got yesterday with other better options available.

Gabriel didn't play vs NZ, but they might try him at the expense of Carlos Brathwaithe, but he too took 3 wickets and scored at SR of 150.

Let's see whether they strengthen their batting or bowling, will be a difficult desicion to leave any one of the players out.

True, I'm not complaining if neither of them are playing :D

Thomas bowled well in India I think and yesterday also he got NZ's best batsman out, Taylor with a sharp lifter from back of a length. He's a nasty bowler to face. If I was in the WI management, I'd definitely look to play him because Pakistan's batsman often struggle against that type of bowling.

Will be interesting to see what lineup they opt for.

Yes I can help you but you will have to pick me up and give me one of your tickets..
Shall I meet you at scratch wood services on the M1?

By the way I have absolutely no clue about the parking situation :(

We have a tremendous attack which is one of the best in the world," du Plessis said. "We can bowl teams out for anything. Look at Pakistan [at the 2017 Champions Trophy]. On paper they had maybe the worst batting line-up but their bowlers kept winning them games. We'll be employing a similar strategy and have confidence that we'll be setting scores we can defend and chasing totals within our reach.
Du Plessis using Pakistan example
But we are very poor now

We have much better bowlers now as compared to 2017. They need one good game and all will be alright.
Amir in 2017 was in much better form
Hassan Ali unleashed himself in CT. He was in good form in PSL. One good outing will do wonders for him i am sure.
Shaheen was not in the squad in CT. He was in good form prior to Eng series. I am sure he will perform good InshaAllah.
We have Wahab this time around in place of Junaid. He is much better choice than Junaid.
Shahad khan
Immad
And we also have Hasnain this time around.
On papers we are much better bowling side as compared to CT 2017. Our boys needs one good game i believe and whole world will see the difference.

Nurse usually bats at 8 for West Indies in ODIs. The battle will probably be between Gabriel and Thomas for the third pacer spot.

Pakistan must absolute bat first against West Indies. We all know what scoreboard pressure does to Pakistan. The pitch is most likely going to be flat and West Indies should have no problem crossing 300. Last time when Pakistan was in this situation, they lost 4 wickets for no run against the same opponents. If one of the West Indies batsman plays a freak innings and West Indies crosses 360+, the game is already over for Pakistan.

Batting first will keep Pakistan in the game. Considering easy batting conditions and how Babar bats like Bradman against West Indies, I do not see Pakistan scoring anything less than 330. Once, Pakistan has posted a good total, they should try to choke West Indies with spinners. Imad, Shadab, Hafeez, and Malik should be able to bowl at least 30 overs of spin.

I would play both Hafeez and Malik. Haris has to sit out because he's a liability when it comes to scoring rapidly in the lower order. Asif is a better option for facing 15-20 deliveries in the end. 2 fast bowlers are more than enough. West Indies has bashed better fast bowlers and at this moment, fast bowling is Pakistan's biggest problem.

1. Fakhar

3. Babar
4. Hafeez
5. Sarfraz
6. Malik
7. Asif
8. Imad
9. Shadab
10. Hassan
11. Aamir

No matter what, you can not play Imad, Shadab, Hafeez & Malik in the same match. Two have to sit out. Haris & Asif are must.

Oh man they are gonna have us for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. we are sooo much in trouble!! Lol

Pakistanis do all the preparation night before the exam. They have huge syllabus to cover tonight. Hope they cover all the chapters & don't leave anything on choice.

What is the weather gonna be like? This is always my biggest concern.

We need Gayle to fall early. If he stays in they can bat us out of the contest. If batting first we need over 300 to be competitive. I feel this will be the norm in what I expect to be a high scoring tournament. Need an Amir to get Gayle to nick one early on to the slips or keeper.

If Pakistan win tomorrow the semis will look a lot closer...

Malik and hafeez to bowl 10 overs combined.

Oh man..... we r gonna get whooped so baaaaaad! I feel like cryin’....

Just read that Amir may not be fit for first game....the one time we really did need someone to be purely economical we dont have him either now it seems...

I would go with Hasnain over Shaheen as he can at least get some Yorkers and perhaps pickup couple of wickets late in the game. Shaheen I have lost hope in.

Oh man..... we r gonna get whooped so baaaaaad! I feel like cryin’....

I think we can beat them. gayle has a rubbish record against us and we have thrashed them in bilaterals. babar being a key figure also hafeez.

I'm concerned about shaheen shah afridi and hasan ali as they are both cannon fodder at the moment. I would bench shaheen for this match. His confidence looks gone completley.

We should approach every match as if we are underdogs..enjoy the tournament as we are not expected to do anything..even the mighty west indies are going to thrash us..hell even afghanski..so whats the worry? relax its like WWE as Younis khan once said.

Tomorrow is a must win , otherwise qualification for semis is looking impossible. Regarding the pitches , as competition goes on the pitches will start to wear down and our bowlers can come into the game

Should Pakistan bat first or bowl first not sure because this team lacks identity no vision dont lnow what kind of side we have what is our strength in the past our strength has been bowling so looked to bat first and rely on our bowling to defend whatever we got but this its neither a bowling side nor a batting side so what should we do if we win the toss:13:

We dont have finishers for chasing we dont have new ball bowlers to make early inroads we dont have spinners to squeeze runrate in the middle what have we got a bunch of 15 similar type of players like Haris and Babar both accumulators Fkhar and Imam both leftys Hafeez and Malik both duds Wahab and Shadab both erratic

What was our thick tank doing :inti

Wi bowling is good batting ver good fielding super excellent our only hope is that its Friday :sachin

12 members squad for tomorrow's match announced. Shoaib hasnain and shaheen will sit out.

Hopefully pur fielding will be improved from the display we got in Eng Series we need to be competitive

Min 27 overs of spin should be bowled

Great depth in batting too. Even #11 has fifties.

Good to know that Amir is playing, irrespective of his lack of penetration in recent times he is still one of the most economical bowlers in last year or two and Pak would need his experience.

These are two teams of equal strength and ability. But WI are on the way up and Pakistan are...well they are about as down as they can be. Hopefully should be a good game.

Put Windies to bat. They'll go for 400. And, bowl 25+ overs of spin and choke them.

They'll surrender for 300+
Sky commentary team reckons Windies will be going for 400. It'll be a fun game regardless, evenly matched teams and best of all, I have a front row seat!

Hopefully we play this team...

Oh god no! He's a hack, we need a class batsmen like Haris who can keep us stable in case of a collapse.
He has performed against England, so deserves a chance.

If he fails no problem but if he gets going we can chase any target or set a decent total...

This is the fourth time in six World Cups that Pakistan begin their campaign against West Indies. The previous three openers saw them win once, while West Indies triumphed twice.

Listening to Sarfraz’s press conference he said he will bat at 5.
There’s no way Pakistan plays Hafeez at 6 because well... you guys know Hafeez.
Haris will make way for Asif.

So Amir, Wahab and Hasan confirmed as pacers.

The rest remains same.

Shaheen should be in bench now, Gayle and Co will destroy his whatever remaining confidence after the Afghan hammering he got!

Think Haris will sit out for Asif which is the correct move in the opinion. Cannot have all three Imam, Babar and Haris. Only 2 of them can play.

All depends on 25+ overs of spin. If Pak can successfully choke Windies, then Pak will gain 2 pts, and, most importantly the much needed confidence after the thrashing they got since the beginning of this year.

West Indies captain Jason Holder is playing a textbook forward defensive to excited talk of a world record score.

West Indies captain Jason Holder is playing a textbook forward defensive to excited talk of a world record score.

Dodging questions like a Kemar Roach 90mph bouncer, Holder prefers to focus on process rather than hype up his big hitters.

However, England’s 481 world record at Trent Bridge last year, where Holder’s side will face Pakistan in their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 opener on Friday, has made the pursuit of the 500-run landmark a fascinating tournament sub-plot.

And with the likes of Chris Gayle and Shai Hope in their side and a batsman-friendly wicket in Nottingham, you can see why the capacity crowd will be anticipating the chance to see history in the making.

“I don’t want to sit here and predetermine what’s going to happen, we are just going to play a normal cricket game,” said Holder, whose side didn’t help him dampen expectations with a score of 421 in their warm-up win over New Zealand.

“I think where the game has gone now, especially in England, there have been some high totals, but there have been totals that were relatively low too.

“That’s the way cricket is played and that’s the nature of the game. I just don’t want to sit before a game and say we’re looking to score 500 or 600, I just want to play it as we see it as assess the conditions like any other game.”

Darren Bravo is another player capable of putting those sitting in row z in serious jeopardy, though he comes into the tournament after a difficult spell, only making it into double digits twice in his last nine international innings.

“I don’t want to focus on 500 runs,” he said. “We just want to come out with the win and we aren’t thinking about the total, just getting points under our belt. We’re looking forward to the encounter, you can’t take Pakistan lightly, they are a very good team.

“We aren’t focussed on the opposition, we’ve identified some weaknesses but we are thinking about our game.

“If you look at our batting line-up, you see can the firepower. We’ve a good blend of experience and youth and we’ve showed glimpses we can be a very dangerous team.”

Shimron Hetmyer is one of the rising stars of the team, scoring the fastest century by a West Indies batsman against England with his 82-ball 100 in Bridgetown earlier this year.

And perhaps the confidence of youth saw a chink in the Windies’ well-rehearsed flat bat to scoring predictions.

“I was just checking round the ground – I honestly thought most of the grounds in England were huge, looking at them on TV,” he admitted.

“We have some very good batsmen in our team and magnificent power hitters as well, and it just depends how we go I guess. Honestly a big total is not that much of a thing for us.”

And while their batsmen will always hog the hype, this game could well be decided with the ball – Pakistan’s top order boasting one of the lowest strike rates in world cricket.

“Coming into this tournament is that every player is in a good frame of mind,” added Holder.

“Everybody is playing with a smile on their face, and I think that’s how we play our best cricket. We’re fearless, we enjoy what we’re doing and we enjoy one another’s company. I can safely say within the group we’ve got that. We’ve got the energy going into this tournament that we would want to have.”

Asif Ali is a must for us to compensate for Imam and Sarfraz's lack of power hitting.

Haris needs to play as well. He can bowl just as well as Imad and in batting there is no comparison.

After Seeing England brilliant Bowling Display My Faith On Our batting lineup Has Increased with Same Archer lienup We Scored 340 and Scroed 2 360 and our Lowest score in the series was 297.
So it comes down to our Bowling

I think there is just one open spot in the Pakistan XI where one of Malik, Sohail or Imad will/should play. Windies are likely to go with 4 pacers and one spinner (Cottrell, Roach, Gabriel, Holder and Nurse). Only way Pakistan are going to win this is if they knock out their top three within the first 15-20 overs.

So with Shoaib out, it's between Imad and Haris and not much in it in my opinion other than Imad's potential for lower order hitting. I expect they will go with him for now.

My excitement level is reaching boiling point......

Shaba boys dafnay bichani hain :wahab :amir3:hasan :shadab :imad :hafeez2
