"No country can become a dignified nation when it keeps relying on aid," said Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan as he addressed a rally of the PTI in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Saturday. Galvanizing support ahead of the general elections in the region, Imran Khan said that Pakistan was on a path that would one day help it support other nations than 'begging for financial assistance" itself. He added that the country had become accustomed to seeking financial aid since it never thought of becoming self-reliant.

“Unfortunately, we have been seeking aid from foreign countries and never thought of becoming self-sufficient [ourselves]," he said. "No country can become a dignified nation when it keeps relying on aid,"
Dawn quoted him as saying.

Pakistan's debt rises

Pakistan's economy has become crippled under its mounting debts and loans from international organizations and friendly nations. In March 2021, the World Bank signed agreements with Islamabad to provide a loan of USD 1.336 billion, just days after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) agreed to release a tranche of USD 500 million loan. Last year, the World Bank had sanctioned a loan amount of USD 500 million to help Pakistan mitigate the adverse impact of the Coronavirus pandemic.

"While presenting the Fiscal Policy and Debt Policy Statement to parliament, Finance minister Dr. Hafeez Sheikh revealed that Pakistan’s total debt is Rs 36.5 trillion with Rs 11.5 trillion borrowed during the past two years. Islamabad's debt grew from PKR 32.1 trillion in November 2019 to PKR 35.8 trillion in November 2020, excluding the IMF loans and liabilities owed by the Imran Khan government indirectly."
Apart from international organisations, Pakistan has also been regularly borrowing from United Arab Emirates (UAE) which earlier this year demanded its USD 1 billion back from the debt-ridden economy. Last year, Pakistan had managed to pay back part of a loan secured from Saudi Arabia after its all-weather friend - China - had come to Imran Khan's rescue. Islamabad had sought Beijing's help to return USD 1 Billion to avoid any adverse impact of the partial withdrawal of the Saudi's $6.2 billion worth of financial package to Pakistan for three years.

Well that day is certainly not going to come as long as you are the PM. Just another laughable statement by the most incompetent and clueless PM Pakistan has ever had.

Speaking of laughable statements, this is what Imran said to the people of Uzbekistan during his visit to the country two days back:

“I know the history of Uzbekistan more than the Uzbek people”

:))) :))) :)))

I couldn't believe he said it, but there is a video of his saying it!

He also knows Europe more than Europeans. Wherever he goes, he makes a laughing stock of himself.

Why not simply say "I know a lot of Uzbek history having read a lot about the country." or something like that?

Why not simply say "I know a lot of Uzbek history having read a lot about the country." or something like that?

Imran does not give speeches reading from a script that are written by media savvy people - and neither does he speak like a politician , he speaks like a common person would and speaks his mind ; sometimes we all end using words that may not be the best for the occasion or context. However people appreciate and admire him for this authenticity also.

He was clearly trying to say he has read about Uzbek history in quite depth and may have more knowledge than many locals - which there’s nothing wrong with, as history and the past especially in developing countries is not something the common man always has a deep interest in, given they have enough to worry about in the present with struggles for survival and livelihood.

LOL Imran.. This man, he is absolutely hilarious.....

He is not a politician, he doesn't have that brain, he is more off like a TV serial actor, nothing more..

Heard he brought up the RSS with the Afghan leadership when talking about peace in Afghanistan.... Yeah like RSS will be deciding factor in bringing peace to Afghanistan

Imran is a gift that keeps giving, endless amount of laughter. I do not even believe our own Raul Puppu will say some of the things Imran says...

He brought up RSS with the Indian media because India media tried to troll him.

And what is exactly is the problem with that statement? Can you be more specific?

Nothing wrong with what he said. Just a cheap clickbait headline used by the media, which ignores the essence of his point.

What do you mean ? Why bring up the RSS with the Afghan leadership when talks are about bringing peace to Afghanistan ?

What exactly did he say to Afghans about RSS?

The only time I heard it was when an Indian asked about the relationship between India and Pakistan, that had nothing to do with Afghans.

You left out the words probably and most.

I'm a student of history so i know probably more history of Uzbekistan than most people in Uzbekistan.

Considering most people aren't too interested in history it would probably be accurate to say that an Oxford educated man like IK knows more history than most people in Uzbekistan.

If he is just speaking his mind without a prepared speech then saying such things must be cultural. Growing up we were taught that it is not polite to say "I am better than you", rather one can say "I have worked on becoming better at this".

I think the culture I was taught is quite common throughout the subcontinent except for those with a feudal mindset.

We have a donald trump as a pm....

Stupid statements by him as usual. The country keeps facing inflation and to every problem he says there is a mafia. Just shows he has no control over the country now.

Anyways, i have given up the hope of seeing a better Pakistan. Even if this miracle does happen it wont happen in my generation probably my kids or my grand kids will see that economically good Pakistan ( if we dont end up geting conquered or have the country's land broken further apart)

Yeh, if bilalwal made the same statement i doubt you would defend him with the above post.

Umm, in the pakistani govt, there is a speech writer post. The speech writer writes and edit posts for the pm. Be it any govt that writer post exists and gets chosen from the ministry of info and broadcasting.

My father had served at the mentioned post in the past aswell

Again, not afghan leadership. Someone from the Indian media tried to troll him while he was walking in a hallway. Nothing to do with Afghanistan.

Well Billo needs to explain what has happened to the trillions given to Sindh. Well we know what happened, does the Omni group ring a bell.

Because its the RSS mindest that has led Ind to invest billions in Afghanistan to attack PK. Surely you ain't that naive to realise this " Investment" had nefarious intentions

The thieves whose forefathers and grandchildren have looted the great nation of Pakistan are on the run.

Corruption is slowly getting low, we are getting out of a crippling war imposed on us, we're improving our relationship with willful neighbors and CPEC is getting done.

Good signs, people are literally sending humongous amount of money to Pakistan everyday.

There was another report I heard, I am trying to find it,, Damn I shouldve saved it on my favorites when I saw a glimpse of it...

From 1:15 onwards Afghanistan calls out Imran in front of the international stage for causing terrorism in Afghanistan, Imran looked Embarrassed.. However he did not bring in RSS, that was my misunderstanding.

I saw the video which you are talking about now, the Indian reporter asks him about Taliban/terror, and he gets into the RSS mode which he does quite a bit.

At this point, it seems no one cares about Afghanistan or even India have to say about Taliban's alleged relationship with Pakistan, which btw that relationship seems to be largely blown out of proportion to find a scapegoat. Back around 2010 or so you have sections of western governments and media mention it quite frequently. Now it's rare. It's not completely absent, however I have watched US media quite a bit recently and their coverage of Afghan exit. Pakistan was barely even mentioned, and whoever did mention (e.g. Christine Fair) Pakistan was largely ignored.

Coming back to the ANI media reporter, I think it was the right response given the reporter was clearly trying to wind up IK. I am not even sure which 'talks' and which 'terror' he was talking about, given Pakistan and India are not talking.

Hopefully one day there will be no poor country left in the world. Everyone will have jobs, clothes and plenty of food. I doubt anyone here will live to see that day but it is what any visionary and great leader should be saying. Imran Khan keeps going on about being open minded and selfless yet here he is doing exactly the opposite.
