Pakistan's chances of reaching the semi-finals stage of the ICC World Cup 2023?

Will Pakistan somehow qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2023?

Pakistan had one job.One job, reach the semis. So that i could watch India versus Pakistan at Eden Gardens.

But no: they can't even do that.

Lost to Afghans. Couldn't even choke the chokers SA.


Matlab kuch bhi. Kuch bhi nahin hota inse. Jahan jana sirf Biryani khana hai.

Everywhere they go, they only care about Biryani. Hyderabad they went out to eat Biryani. Bangalore they went out to eat Biryani and Kebab. Kolkata they ordered Biryani and Kebab and gravies from a restaurant to the team hotel.

You seem to be so hung about on Indo/Pak match.

Whats the big deal. Allegedly New Zealand v India is the same thing as an Indo/Pak game anyway. Why are you so glum?

Bharat vs Australia is a very big affair. I think only that can come close to the madness of Bharat bs Pakistan.

The captain dictates the culture and mindset of the team. I doubt Kohli as captain would have tolerated this non sense. Babar in comparison is a paindu who never left the village.
 
Its still on ( slim hope).

Kiwis fail drug tests and their result against Sri Lanka is declared null and void and Pakistan beat England.

Kiwis are called back to New Zealand by Jacinda based off a security threat. Pakistan beats England and finishes 5 and takes their spot.

Jay Shah and Zaka Ashraff suddenly discovers a rule where 4th and 5th spot is decided on a playoff. Pakistan play New Zealand. The match gets rained off but because Pakistan has a better head to head as they defeated NZ in the group stage they qualify.

The tournament is still alive and kicking.

What's the equation for Pak if NZ win this game in 30 overs ?

Can someone put the margin of victory needed for Pak vs eng ?

Looking at how pathetic eng have been this wc, they can get bowled out for 100 in eden gardens if your spinners bowl well
 
One would think a lesson was learnt from the 2019. In 4 years nothing has been learnt, and Pak are pulling off a Deja vu performance.
 
The problem is that we have an immediate tour of Australia and New Zealand after this WC.

I doubt whether the PCB will change Babar or the squad quickly. The PCB management committee is also constrained and cannot make any long term decisions. Looks like Babar will get away with it again.

But expectations were different than last time.They were a number 1 side, had good outfit than last time.Wc was in sub continent. They got a wake up call in Asia cup even then they were stubborn and to an extent stupid in wc
 
Pakistan's chances lie somewhere between zero, nil and nought. But honestly, it's nothing less than we deserve.
 
Sad for my Pakistani friends as I know the pain of disqualifying from the world cup. Still remember when Guptil ran Dhoni out in 2019...I was numb and it took few days to recover. But honestly speaking, Pakistan has not played good enough cricket to go to the semi's
 
Pakistan failed to bat in total 40 overs in there matches that they were bowled out in. That’s a minimum of at least 100 runs. If it does come to NRR which it will , they have only themselves to blame.

Failed to bat last 6-7 overs against Australia , last few overs against South Africa , at least 10-12 overs against India .

Really lacked game awareness and planning in those games .

Mohammad Nawaz is the chief culprit for this. Even Babar has now had enough of him.

Nawaz shouldn't have been picked for this squad at all, well out of his depth. Then you had Imam chugging along gingerly without a care in the world till he got the boot.
 
Tough luck Pakistan!

The bowlers simply didn't come to the party this worldcup and that ultimately became the reason for our demise in this worldcup. Pakistani bowlers were doing a lot better when Pakistan was making its ascendancy to the first place in icc rankings so there is a clear difference there.

Pakistan needs to work on its reserves so the bowlers can be rotated and rested, we have to find a good quality spinner in the team and find a replacement for Haris Rauf because even though he does get us wickets somtimes he also leaks a lot of runs which puts our batsmen in pressure in the next innings. If they do want to play him however he shouldn't be bowling in the first 10 overs and is better suited to support the spinners in the middle innings.

Pakistan also got unlucky with Naseem not being in the team because the pressure Naseem and Shaheen used to create at the start of the innings was setting the tone for the middle overs which was missing here.

🇵🇰 would then be ~245 runs behind 🇳🇿 on NRR - i.e. if 🇵🇰 scored 400 batting 1st v 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 they’d need to restrict 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 to ~155 to get ahead of 🇳🇿 on NRR




If 🇳🇿 are even more ambitious/successful and chase this down in 20 overs (so ~8.5 runs per over), their NRR would be +0.886

If New Zealand chase in 35 Overs, Pak will need to chase 120 in 6 overs or 200 in 7 Overs.

Some people still harping on about deserve deserve deserve. It doesn't even look like a word to me now when I read it. I keep thinking of dessert instead. I want a cheese cake.

I love this format of the World Cup, it's the best and everyone plays everyone. I do not understand why they're going back to Super Sixes in 2027.

If we beat England, then tough luck to Pakistan. Had that Haris Rauf LBW been given we'd be in the SF right now but again, playing in sub-continent conditions we should have placed 3rd or 4th convincingly but our bowlers never came to this tournament. Finally, the way PCB handled Naseem Shah's shoulder for a year is criminal. Unfortunately one of the biggest culprits of that still has his job at the board.
 
It's done, the best hope was for SL to turn up but sadly as expected they were poor

Ultimately we only have ourselves to blame, we haven't been good enough and you just hope they learn some lessons from it (they won't)
 
Babar's stubbornness and Inzi's conflict of interest cost us this World Cup. What is the point of CS if you select same team for every matches

They can end up 6th if Afghanistan wins last match and Pak lose to England.

We throw away chances to play our best cricket at WCs. Really sad especially the last 3 we have completely wasted with poor planning and selection.

Because if it was India vs Pakistan it would have been at Eden Gardens. Now it would be India vs NZ at Wankhede.
 
Still there is a possibility of Pakistan scoring 450 and England can get bowled out for 100. Project quadrat ka nizam still alive and kicking.

This is getting into the wc 2019 territory where in pakistans last match they had to do something crazy like score 500 and get bangladesh out cheaply haha. Couldn’t do it v Bangladesh, couldn’t dream of that happening v England. I’m interested in seeing the chasing scenarios, say we bowl out England for 150 and chase it in 12 overs would that be enough. Or we would need more runs to chase/less overs.

The only way now is to bat first and smash 400 runs and then try and get England out for 100 .

Yet again we are left to contemplate the what ifs.
What if it wasn't umpire's call vs SA, what if Usama Mir hadn't dropped that catch, what if Fakhar came back earlier, what if rankings were based on H2H instead....

Pakistan could yet join them in the knockout stages but I can’t help thinking that with the talent they have, they should have already sealed their spot. I have seen up close in recent years through my coaching work [Pakistan Super League] how much ability exists in that squad but they have made life hard for themselves – I think they are a more talented squad than their place in the table would suggest. They can beat the very best on their day so there may be some punches left in that team.

We are playing in Kolkata, not Bengaluru anymore.

These scores are not achievable on that ground.

Pakistan is out and they deserve to be.

They didn’t v Bangladesh in 2019. I think they will decide within first 10, if they lose 2 early wickets they’ll aim to just win the game.

Looking at how bad Eng batting has been, there is a slight chance.
