Pakistan's chances of reaching the semi-finals stage of the ICC World Cup 2023?

Will Pakistan somehow qualify for the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2023?

Typical procrastinators delusion. When they have a week to do a task, they keep sitting on it and think that they can put an all nighter and finish the task in 8 more hours. Only to find they are 3 hours short in the end. Talking about the fans.

No team ever goes into a game thinking of winning by close to 300 runs. It just happens on a very rare day.
Pakistan's only hope would be get to close to 450 while batting first and then bundle England for 150 odd. But Eden pitch slows down significantly after the first few overs. Not easy to hit through the line at all. Pakistan's bowling does not inspire confidence that they could restrict any team to 150 odd.
All in all it's over for Pakistan. That shambolic bowling display against Afghanistan has cost them a shot at the title.

The question is, if we bat first,
Should we just try to score 500? We have nothing to lose
Just to put our qualification scenario into some figures from the past

Our highest ever ODI SCORE (excluding against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh) in 50 years of ODI cricket is 371

England's lowest ever ODI SCORE in 50 years of ODI Cricket is 86

371 - 86
= 285

We still fall short by 2 runs lol

I am the most optimistic person I know and especially when it comes to Pakistan cricket

But there is not even an iota of chance that we will qualify

Might as well just play for the win- would be a consolidation after a not so good tournament

We will be taking out 8kg mutton and going home now.

On a side note, all diplomatic ties with Sri Lanka have also been cut.
So much attitude in Imam. Pride hath a fall is so true

The last time Pakistan appeared composed and in control was during the 2011 World Cup. However, the recent 3 World Cups, including the present one, have been disastrous for Pakistan. In 2015, we somehow managed to win against Ireland, UAE, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, only to be heavily defeated by the Australians in the quarterfinals. I can never forget the beating Wahab received from Russell, and then the 0-4 struggle while batting second.

In the 2019 World Cup, we began the tournament with an all-time low score against the ultra-minnow West Indies side (with Afghanistan and the Netherlands arguably being better than the West Indies). We never managed to recover our run rate and found ourselves in a situation where we were dependent on other teams.

If you observe, there have been two main problems with Pakistan in the last three World Cups. Firstly, the team failed to realize the importance of maintaining a good run rate right from the beginning of the tournament. (Look at how Rohit Sharma has played in this World Cup; his innings are arguably more valuable than Sachin Tendulkar's 600+ runs scored in the 2003 World Cup and Virat Kohli's 49th century.) The second problem lies with the PCB, as they have not managed their ace bowlers well, causing them to be less than fully fit for mega tournaments. In 2015, peak form Junaid Khan got injured, and this year, Naseem also suffered an injury. Both injuries have exposed Pakistan's bowling vulnerabilities on the bigger stage.

Pakistan should bowl England out for 0, and then chase it by hitting a 6 of no-ball in the very first ball of their innings. In that way they can get infinite NRR.

Lol, Sri Lanka have been ridiculously terrible all tournament but we were hoping they would suddenly miraculously beat one of the better teams of the tournament.

Pakistan played bad cricket for a lot of this tournament. So the team has to own up to that. It will be interesting to see what changes there are for the aussie tour.

No chance and frankly we don’t deserve it either, and if we had made it to the Semi final it would have glossed over the fact that Pakistan played miserably in the majority of the tournament and we seriously need to change our approach.

Haha nice.

Is there any kind of realistic equation possible if Pak bat first. Say they score 350 which is the best I see them able to do. How much should England be bowled out for?

^^
Oh nevermind. They need to beat England by 287 runs whatever their score.
Correct. Or 288 if Pakistan scores above 360. Which is not completely unfeasible. Already in 41 matches there have been 2 300+ run wins. And India got a 243 run victory over the #2 team in the tournament.

So a 287/288 run victory is far from easy, but it's hardly unprecedented either.

Fakhar not playing those matches really cost Pakistan their Semi-final spot. He could have easily played a match winning knock in one of those lost games.

England in order to qualify for CT cannot lose by more than 280 runs. So they won't endlessly play their bazball shots and get bowled out for a double digit score. They will ensure their CT qualification first

Pakistan should bat first against England and post runs, then lock the England team in the dressing room and get them timed out.
