Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar believes the nation’s cricket board can only prosper if they have the right people taking decisions. He questioned the mentality of the elite class in Pakistan and said that they always want a weak person under them so that they can run affairs. “Elite class wants an average crowd under them so that they can always dictate terms to them. They need a chairman like that, a captain who is docile, do we need a captain or something else. A docile captain, what can he do, does he have to walk on to the field or offer prayers?” he said during a chat show.

Akhtar also said that cricketing boards all across the world are employing former cricketers to run affairs but PCB is not adopting this approach and hence, cricket is suffering in the country.

“Sourav Ganguly is president of BCCI, Rahul Dravid is heading the national cricket academy. Graeme Smith heads Cricket South Africa. Mark Boucher is the head coach, but the opposite is happening in Pakistan. They have not used me, my job was not to sit on TV shows, they should have allowed me to run cricket, “ Akhtar further added.

Akhtar also said that Pakistan have stopped developing agencies and academies in the country and this had an impeding impact on the game and the young players trying to take this up as a career choice.

He also went on to add that owing to the coronavirus pandemic, IPL will take a toll and India will incur heavy loss.

“I hope India do not incur this loss and I hope they prosper, but it is all happening which is unfortunate,” he went on to add.

Same entitled attitude as Miandad. Also his extra concern for India over his own people is sickening.

I don't know whats worse, coronavirus rampaging through the world, or Shoaib Actor's daily attention seeking videos.

All of the cricketers mentioned are dignified, pragmatic and controversy-free individuals that achieved far more than Akhtar, and this guy doesn't understand that one bit.

If this happened, one thing is for sure, it would be fun, controversial and a laugh-a-minute.

Akhtar stopped being honest & sensible since his honest assessment of Afridi’s career backfired , now he’s just another troll like Fauji & Tanvir Ahmed . Guy has a heart of gold but the entitlement is cringe level

He has a right to his opinion.

The fastest bowler in the history of the game and the most frightening to face.

Legend.

Yes, some comments he makes are laughable but that's what you get with jazba and daleri. Being outspoken.

They haven't used you for the same reasons as they have not used Shewag.

What a joke he is turning out to be.

You want to contribute then open up an academy and start coaching.

Who are you to dictate how he should contribute?

Shoaib Akhtar would turn the PCB into TMZ if he ran cricket in Pakistan

Shoaib Akhtar the "comments" machine....

"When I was asked last for my advice, I also said that PSL should be postponed, as we need to stand tall alongside other nations of the world as this Coronavirus is an international calamity"

"By holding almost 95% of the PSL games in Pakistan this year, we have shown the world that we can organize a good tournament based on our crowds and the work of our groundsmen"

"I feel sorry for Lahore Qalandars as this was their first chance to make it to the final, and possibly win the tournament as well but unfortunately that did not happen and my heart goes out to LQ"

Just because you're good doesn't automatically qualify you to coach. It happens in NHL and NBA all the time where legends start coaching and they are an absolute disaster because they possessed natural abilities that allowed them to be great and its not something you can just teach others to possess.

In fact, most of the coaches in NHL and NBA were mediocre to horrible to players that barely ever or never played in those leagues and have gone on to become successful coaches.

It's why it is nonsense when I see PCB always having big former players trying to be coaches or chief selectors when they are not deserving or have the necessary skills to do the job correctly.

99% of this video is all about PAK and praising PAK people. That's what Akhtar is doing in that video.

Yet

You have picked up a single statement, that is 1% of the video and brainwashing others based on that.

Akhtar mentions SA and India using their cricketers, Misbah has a very strong role in Pak cricket and you can make the case that he is being groomed to take over as PCB chairman at some point in the future.

Regardless, Akhtar should be no where near Pakistan cricket. He's an entertainer, not a manager and should not be given any authority

A fan of Pakistani cricket.

I pay to watch, and even if I didn't, i am entitled to my opinion.

Yes, you sure are entitled to your opinion. Don't post as if he's bound to do what you say.

Are you one of his blind followers? explain where I demanded him to listen to me or else?

I think we should at least make him a selector
He can't do a worse job than the likes of ramiz raja

I remember some of the fast-bowlers at KRL saying to me that he was excellent with the advice he gave to them and how he wanted to share his knowledge and experience with the younger guys in the KRL squad.

The problem I guess would be, could he do that over a long period day-in, day-out.

He doesn't have the patience to do it over a long time period. You can see that from his tv appearances where he starts getting irritated and annoyed very easily after a while, he is one of those individuals with a small limited attention span.

& without any controversy?
problem is he is too much on your face ..for PCB

I remember interviewing him face to face a few years ago. He said 20 minutes maximum.

I gave myself 15 minutes as I knew that he would lose interest after that.

The interview lasted just under 15 minutes and afterwards he said he enjoyed it because what annoys him so much about some interviewers is why they keep on talking and questioning him when he has lost interest in the questions.

Lol, atleast he was honest and upfront

shoaib akhtar is a third class, unprofessional individual who cost pakistan a lot because of his disciplinary issues and unprofessionalism in field.

He should be the last person running anything at PCB.

Infact, PCB should restrict his access to players and grounds.

Think about it, if we didnt have youtube, none of this nonsense would exist.

Why does Shoab has to mention India in every discussion?.He should be concerned about Pakistan cticket only.

All talk but 0 action.

The same Shoaib Akhtar who said that after his cricket career he would look and find new talent in Pakistan. Instead he is talking non sense every single day and wasting time on cheap Pak tv shows.

What happened to the talent search?

Shoaib may not seem like a good administrative option but he can get a coaching gig. He can start coaching at U-19 level.

One of the good things that the PCB has done. Funny thing is the PCB and management is still comprised of former cricketers. Wasim Khan is a godsend for Pakistan Cricket.

Shabby will be dishing out phainta to players everytime they lose so im all for it. :afridi

Does anyone know if he has any underlying mental health issues?

I wonder if any domestic team would take a gamble and give him a chance.

I don't he would make a good coach to be honest. All our ex players want some sort of power but rarely do you see them going through Loughborough to get coaching qualification or experience in administration or management for roles in the PCB.
