So he couldn't do this while he was an unbanned active player? Shows the shocking lack of professionalism in Pakistani players in general.
You have to remember the talent pool is watered down due to the greater number of teams (and no foreign stars), which allows players like Farhan (who are not ready for internationals) to dominate the lesser bowlers + poor, less fit fielders and vice versa with the case of bowlers.
I agree Farhan isnt ready yet but our next Intl limited over commitments are the worst WI team of all time and a tour of Zimbabwae. Asia Cup may be tough but aside from India and Rashid Khan the bowling by the teams will be quite poor. The real test is Aus in UAE later on in the year. So I think its prudent to give him a go. He isnt going to improve in domestic List A/t20s
To put in perspective Sharjeel is alleged to have blocked two balls and he was banned for 2.5 years. However, Smith and Warner did blatant and pre-planned cheating but ICC banned Smith for one test and CA banned them for 1 year. Mashallah.
So cheating the game isn't bringing it into disrepute?
Apparently cheating isnt a big deal because it doesnt make you less patriotic ( you dont sell your country). ICC doesnt care much until you are patriotic enough.
So when is his ban till?
Unbeleivable...on one hand Aussie fans are outraged about the whole saga and this over the top reaction got them a ban of 1 year which I feel is a little harsh but that’s fine
and on the other hand Pakistani fans are saying the punishment for fixing which is a much worse crime is too harsh![]()
So Sharjeel has accepted his punishment and will wait till next year?
Fixing and spot-fixing are two different instances. Also to this day no proof has been presented of Sharjeel's/Latif's guilt. They PCB/Authorities promised proof would be released but nothing was provided, hence they replies you see here.
If he was found guilty, with actual proof you'd see more fans wanting the punishment to stand and be adhered to.
I don’t think any country has so far welcomed back a player convicted of any kind of fixing.
No proof being presented? Don’t think any player has been banned either on just rumors either, clearly there was something concrete enough to ban them....anyway not getting into all that.
You have to admit that in Pakistan there is a little bit leeway to players considered “match winners” “talented” etc etc

If another Australian tampers the ball, he will be banned for life.
After the trio's spot fixing, Pakistan and Misbah were instrumental in keeping the game clean. Sharjeel, with a sureshot place in the playing eleven, spot fixing especially after all the turmoil and education is just inexcusable.
Pakistan fans are something else . Finding a way to defend fixing)
) . Aboslultey disgusting. We need to ban these fixers for life. They have shamed our country too many times. Can't afford for it to happen again.
Firstly there is no public evidence that Sharjeel fixed AT ALL.
He has been banned after a trial that's all that matters. Other posters have defended Amir actions LOL. Was there no proof then?

Once again I state, if the proof is shown [it still hasn't] then ban all concerned for life. Pakistan already went through a tough process of winning hearts & minds of cricket fans. But the issue here is Sharjeel/Latif's lawyers, respectively, have asked the the proof to be shown to the courts, to them, and the public and they've been rejected. Why would that be?!
If the evidence was so clear and damning why not share and show these crooks what they did and how they went about doing it.
There's just more to this than the punishment and bans. Sethi, himself, went on live television and stated the evidence would be presented for everyone to see. It's been more than 1-year and nothing was ever shown.
No one has defended Amir's act in 2010 because the evidence was there for everyone to see.

A verdict at trial doesn't always mean a rightful conclusion as to a being guilty/not guilty. Especially one that is in Pakistan, and one that involves cricket.
Also, When The head of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports [ Dr. Ashok Kumar] has expressed doubts over involvement of Sharjeel. But anyway...
Amir got the golden boy treatment despite all the evidence against him but Sharjeel has hardly been judged / punished objectively, the case had been incoherent and lacked professionalism
What does PCB gain from Sharjeel not having a fair trial?
I have seen posters say what Smith and Bancroft did is worse than what Amir did.
The image of a clean board which has a complete zero tolerance for corruption and excellent professional administration.

0 tolrenace for corruption but allows fixers to return to cricket lol. PCB haven't been harsh enough on fixers in the past.
Why would PCB ban a gun opener that they deaperately need? What happened to the case?

For those who don't the know facts and investigation routines but yet jump to the conclusion that Sharjeel is guilty need to be kindly reminded:
The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don't know anything about.
Could've been a power-play move by Sethi to prove he was being strict on so-called "fixers".
But no-one can glean what exactly they had on the players and why, if they did, didn't they provide the evidence, Sethi claimed he had.
When Dr. Ashok Kumar says he's yet to see any evidence/proof against Sharjeel then you know there's something up.
Well there's always going to be that small minority with strange opinions shall we say. But what I find astonishing is that you and many others on here take PCB's word in re: Sharjeel at face value without any evidence.

Why hasn't Sharjeel kicked and screemed if it wasn't a fair trial and if he's innocent why hasn't he kicked on screem?
Also casual cricket fans won't care if it's a fair trial or not. All they will see is Sharjeel has been banned for fixing. The precereption is that our players are vulnerable to fixing. Sharjeel has done nothing to help this pereception amongst the casual observers.
If everything is so neat and clean then explain Lateef convo with Jamshed and Sharjeel and Lateef dinner with that bookie and the fact that Irfan admitted the offer being made. There is no smoke without fire.
Junaids TalentSpotterPk MenInGDoes anyone know the facts of the case? It seems like we are going round and round on speculation.
Why is Sharjeel now suing if he feels he has been wronged?
He's pleaded his innocence throughout. He went infront of the cameras and stated as much too. If that isn't "kicking & screaming" I don't know what is.
Also "casual cricket fans" would mean fans like you, I suppose. Guilt upon perception is the stupidest thing I've read of.
A casual viewer wouldn't spend hours on a cricket forum.
The point I'm trying to make is wheather we like it or not, when a Pakistani is accused of fixing the cricketing world believes he allegation will stick.
My main point is fixing is much worse than tampering and I have seen Pakistan fans on this forum argue it is . Fixing is the lowest of the low.

Exactly.
Very sad to read such comments.
Hey guys apologies for my ignorance but I am still confused is Sharjeel banned yet or not? what is the story?
He has been banned for 5 years, but it can be reduced to 2.5 years if goes through rehab and is on his best behavior (I guess in terms of cricket). I think he returns in July-August of next year.
He will never be selected again no matter what. What a stupid decision from him .he should be careful otherwise i don.t think he will be back to pak team ever
He will never be selected again no matter what.

The fact that his name was on the ECL proves something fishy happened, doesn't make any sense whatsoever. They really did not want him to take his case abroad.

Sharjeel Khan met Chairman PCB and requested to ease his ban.Sharjeel Khan wants to play domestic matches.
Suspended Pakistan opener Sharjeel Khan has breached Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) laws by playing in ongoing All Pakistan T20 league in Hyderabad.
The left-hander, who was banned from playing cricket for five years, is not allowed to play domestic and international cricket, for next two and a half years. He is under observation of the board.
However, violating PCB’s laws the batsman can be seen playing cricket in the Board’s affiliated Ramazan Cricket tournament in Hyderabad. The tournament is organized with the collaboration of District Hyderabad Cricket Association under PCB rules. Ibtisam Sheikh, who is one of the finds of Pakistan Super League (PSL), is also playing alongside Sharjeel.
Sharjeel has been banned from all forms of cricket for five years for his role in the spot-fixing scandal that marred the Pakistan Super League earlier this year.
While playing for Islamabad United, he was charged with five major breaches of the PCB’s anti-corruption code and was found guilty on all five counts by a three-man tribunal.
Two-and-a-half years out of the five-year sentence are suspended, meaning Sharjeel, 28, cannot plot a return to cricket before the second half of 2019 at the earliest. Sharjeel was present at his sentencing but did not take questions.
