PCB surgery: Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq sacked from the selection committee

PCB statement

Lahore, 10 July 2024:

The Pakistan Cricket Board today confirmed that it has notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee setup. Abdul Razzaq was a member of the men’s and women’s selection committees, while Wahab was a member of the men’s selection committee.

The PCB will provide further updates on the selection committee’s composition in due course.​
 
As much as these two needed to be removed , knee jerk reactions like this are the reason Pakistan cricket is falling off a cliff.

These two were given one tournament to prove their worth. So they shouldn't have selected guys like azam! but If even the selectors don't have assurance of security, why would the players play free and attacking cricket?

The management from the ODI WC was sacked, replaced by another management who was sacked by naqvi, replaced by these clowns.

Fix the processes which allowed guys like Wahab and razzaq to be hired, that is the way forward. Give the selectors time, give the coaches time. Should've given Shaheen time as captain, but no Babar Azam returned even after all the humiliating defeats.
 
Naqvi will surgerify everyone other than Babar.

Every single word uttered out of Naqvi’s mouth has been a failure.

-Giving leadership back to Babar ahead of WC
-Keeping Wahab’s nose very close to the cricket team ensuring he is also in the team huddle before the game
-Insisting on the returns of Amir & Imad
-Insisting on Azam Khan’s selection
-Making stupid comments in the media on a daily basis
-Changing coaches and disrupting team environment
-Backing Shadab Khan

If the above actions constitute only one failure for you, then you are a very kind hearted and forgiving man.

When you select Azam Khan for a WC. You deserve to get fired.
 
As per rumours from highly unreliable unofficial sources, Wahab Riaz has told Naqvi sahib that despite the sacking he and his family are available to tour with the team to Australia and South Africa later this year. He also reiterated that despite this drastic step from the PCB, his commitment to the nation, the team and more importantly travelling in general, remains as high as ever. Finally, Wahab mentioned that PCB still haven't approved his US expenses.

Apparently the coaches had complaints about Shaheen Afridi’s behaviour towards them and his neglect of their instructions, but the team manager wasn’t taking these complaints seriously. There were also complaints about players lobbying against each other.

Ok fine, remove the staff for mismanagement but what about the divisive players? They are grown men with professional contracts. What’s this nonsense!
 
Babar is way too powerful for Naqvi to sack him. Told you guys Naqvi will do everything sacking even Kristen and Gillepsie but Keep Babar and temporary rest his friends. Even if we get first round exit in CT25, Babar will be captain in 2026 T20 World Cup and 2027 50 over World Cup.
Babar is bigger than Pakistan cricket and everything revolves under him. No matter who is the chairman or worst performances Babar will be there.

Naqvi gets massive support here due to his political background. This guy is pathetic in management skill, his speech is terrible and full of lies.
Appointing Kristen was a dumb decision to start with. With current mafia players led by Babar cannot be controlled by a gentleman like Kristen. You need people like Sastri/Hature to deal harshly. Good coaches like Kristen can work with disciplined teams like India/Australia... not undisciplined/rebel/careless team like Pakistan.

Exactly. He is untouchable. Both Wahab and Razzaq can keep their job if they are in good book of Babar. Babar can still play his friend Shadab/Hasan/Fahim/Nawaz, loose by 100+ runs and will keep his captaincy.

Misbah can only survive if he is in good terms with Babar and not worry too much about fitness.
 
As per media reports, selection committee member's call to Wahab Riaz, "Accept failure, all will be saved."
 
How does this help? Who are the mind blowing players that they didn't select?

Such is the dearth of talent amongst the playing, coaching and administration that we are lost. Even Ejaz Butt would look down on these clowns
 
Not a fan of either Wahab or Abdul Razzaq but it's silly to blame them or PCB for WC debacle. The players who are permanently playing in the team since last 4-5 years are responsible for continuous failures. The players are thick skinned, despite continuous failures in big matches they will never accept their failures, most of them will continue carrying fake attitude and arrogance

Good riddance TBH. Wahab's selection was purely off-merit. We needed a guy who could take this team forward not a guy who got this job due to some influence from third parties and did nothing in his tenure as a selector. SENIOR team manager was a post created specifically for this guy as well and he got sacked from there too.
 
Main problem is Babar's poor captaincy and his stubbornness to insist his friends to be selected and played rather than deserving one. Naqvi is here to protect his Babar at any cost.

Heard Babar will be retained as captain in LOI with full authority to select team. Meaning Kristen will be just like another puppet coach to select the blame. This Naqvi guy must be worst wannabe chairman in PCB. Another first round exit with Shadab, Hasan, Fahim , Nawaz in the playing 11.

PCB contracts must be really poorly written. In the west, any senior positions have a generous severance associated to it. and management sign non disparagement clauses so they cant publicly criticise the organisation either.

Two inconsequential scapegoats sacrificed for nodding their heads and approving the dosti yaari team list put on their table by their King Bob.

"If I talk about Bilal Afzal, who is that guy? where did he come from that he is now sitting in the selection committee? I don't know if he came as an analyst or in the finance department but now he is seen in the selection of domestic cricket, deciding which players get central contracts."

"What is his role that he is messaging Wahab Riaz asking him to resign? Don't know who are these people and where did they come from. This usually happens when decisions are not made on merit."

Firstly Pakistan should have been removed Babar from captainship as soon as they return home.
Stable person like Shan Masood should have been announced as new skipper.

PCB's chairman himself is a clown. PCB needs a chairman who is good at administrative role not at interfering in team selection.

Babar's reselection as captain is one of the worst move in sport history.. PCB will suffer its consequences for a long long time..
 
If this is the extent of the much hyped surgery, then id sue the surgeon.
 
PCB reshapes selection committee yet again

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has gone with yet another unusual approach in setting up the national men’s selection committee following the recent sacking of Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq as selectors.

Former Pakistan internationals Wahab and Razzaq were part of a seven-member selection committee — which featured other ex-players in Asad Shafiq and Mohammad Yousuf along with data analyst Bilal Afzal and the national team’s head coaches and captain.

But after further alterations following Pakistan’s disastrous show in last month’s T20 World Cup, which led to the removal of Wahab and Razzaq, the selection committee now has four voting members and five ex-officio or non-voting members.

While Asad, Yousuf, the captain and the head coach of the format in question are the voting members, Pakistan’s assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, now advisor to the PCB chairman Bilal, manager analytics and team strategy Hasan Cheema, the board’s director high-performance Nadeem Khan and director international cricket Usman Wahla are the non-voting members of the committee, which still doesn’t have a chairperson.

The recent reshaping of the selection committee, although not announced officially, can be confirmed through it being mentioned on the PCB’s website.

Asad will also continue to act as a member of the national women’s team selection committee, which will also have one more member in former Pakistan international Batool Fatima besides the captain and head coach. This committee, however, doesn’t have non-voting members.

When Abdul Razzaq was asked if he received any message from the PCB that he would be awarded $10,000 if he won the World Championship of Legends trophy, he replied:

"Yes, only the termination letter has arrived."

Former international cricketer and General Manager Academies Dr Imran Abbas will feature in a four-day ICC Level 2 Tutors training course, taking place in Malé, Maldives from 24 July.

The initiative is part of ICC’s training and education programme to equip their members with quality Level 2 tutors who, in turn, will train quality coaches, enabling members to conduct their own Level 2 courses. The course will be conducted by former Pakistan international cricketer Iqbal Sikander and former Bangladesh Test captain Amin-ul-Islam – both assigned by ICC.

Additionally, the ICC will hold a two-day High-Performance workshop in Maldives on 29-30 July. Former Test cricketer Wahab Riaz and current head coach National Cricket Academy and former international cricketer Shahid Anwar will participate in the workshop. The workshop is designed to provide participants with information on the latest coaching techniques as well as on how to identify and develop talent from the grassroots level.

There is no role too big for Wahab. Make him the ICC’s global brand ambassador and face of modern day cricket.
 
Wahab Riaz in a recent interview vented his anger against PCB for injustice with him:

"I paid the price for my honesty and straightforwardness. Mickey Arthur didn't like me at all and as a result they wasted my 2,3 years"

"I've been singled out for Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2024 performance. The actual issues lie in team's lack of passion for country and game awareness, as well absence of team unity among them. It's puzzling that with 7 member selection committee, certain media sections target me alone."
 
Yes Wahab it’s always someone else’s fault in Pak.. let’s not mention you were hell bent on selecting moins fat son !!
