Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Haris power their respective sides to victory in matches of the PCB Champions T20 Cup 2024

Mohammad Haris delivered a blistering 61 off 35 balls, while pacer Mohammad Ali impressed with figures of 4-28 to secure a commanding six-wicket victory for his team. In another nail-biting clash, Abdul Samad smashed a last-ball six to seal a thrilling three-wicket win in an action-packed Sunday in Rawalpindi.

The win solidified their position at the top of the five-team table as the second round of matches kicked off in dramatic fashion. The second-placed side also maintained their momentum, thrilling the holiday crowd with a spectacular finish as they chased down five runs off the final delivery.

Batting first, the opposing team posted a competitive 168-7, courtesy of a scintillating knock by Haider Ali, who hammered a 49-ball 73, featuring five sixes and five boundaries. He was well-supported by Umar Siddiq (30 off 29) and Mubasir Khan (31 off 22), but their efforts were overshadowed by a composed chase.

The openers provided a rapid start, adding 28 runs in just over three overs. Mohammad Haris then took the lead, forming a crucial 64-run partnership with Hussain Talat (32 off 25). Shoaib Malik (21*) and Mohammad Mohsin (15*) guided the chase home with two balls to spare. Mohammad Ali stood out with his four-wicket haul, supported by Mohammad Amir Khan, who picked up 2-34.

In the second match, the batting side set a total of 187-7 in their 20 overs. Openers Hasan Nawaz (24) and Imam-ul-Haq (28) gave a fiery start, adding 56 runs in 4.2 overs. Contributions from Rohail Nazir (22 off 17), Shahzaib Khan (16 off 13), and a late cameo by Aamer Yamin (39 off 27) ensured a strong finish. Nisar Ahmed (2-40) and Akif Javed (2-47) were the pick of the bowlers.

The chase was anchored by Mohammad Faizan with a stellar 66 off 42 balls, including five sixes and three boundaries. He shared an 88-run stand with skipper Iftikhar Ahmed, who blazed his way to 66 off 31 balls, smashing eight sixes and two boundaries. Despite Shahid Aziz’s impressive 4-42, including two crucial wickets in the final over, Abdul Samad’s last-ball six sealed the sensational win.

The day delivered electrifying performances and thrilling finishes, showcasing the excitement and intensity of the competition.

Lake City Panthers Overpower Engro Dolphins in Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup

Rawalpindi, 16 December 2024:

The Lake City Panthers triumphed over the Engro Dolphins by six wickets at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday afternoon. Mohammad Wasim Jnr and Abdul Wahid Bangalzai were the standout performers in the win.

Wasim disrupted the Dolphins' innings with figures of 3-28 in his four overs, supported by spinner Arafat Minhas (2-11) and all-rounder Amad Butt (2-12), restricting the opponents to 106-9 in 20 overs.

The victory pushed the Panthers to six points from six matches, with three wins and three losses, while the Dolphins suffered their fifth defeat in as many games.

The Dolphins' innings started poorly, losing opener Sahibzada Farhan to fast-rising pacer Ali Raza on the third ball. Mirza Tahir Baig provided a brief spark with a 13-ball 19, but Wasim removed him in the sixth over. Mohammad Huraira and Umar Amin were dismissed cheaply, leaving captain Faheem Ashraf (25), Muhammad Akhlaq (19), and Qasim Akram (14) to push the score past 100. Faheem's 34-ball effort included one boundary and a six.

In response, Dolphins' pacer Sameen Gul dismissed Umar Siddiq for five and Shadab Khan for a duck, leaving the chase in disarray at 2-9. The situation worsened to 3-14 when Ihsanullah dismissed Mubasir Khan for a four-ball duck. However, Abdul Wahid Bangalzai and Danish Aziz stabilized the innings with an 82-run stand for the fourth wicket. Bangalzai's 38-ball 51 included two sixes and six boundaries, while Danish scored an unbeaten 38 off 34 balls, guiding the Panthers to victory in 15 overs.

Scores in brief:

  • Match 13: Lake City Panthers beat Engro Dolphins by six wickets at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium
  • Engro Dolphins: 106-9, 20 overs (Faheem Ashraf 25, Mirza Tahir Baig 19, Muhammad Akhlaq 19; Mohammad Wasim Jnr 3-28, Arafat Minhas 2-11, Amad Butt 2-12)
  • Lake City Panthers: 109-4, 15 overs (Abdul Wahid Bangalzai 51, Danish Aziz 38 not out; Sameen Gul 2-16, Ihsanullah 2-27)

To be fair to Sharjeel, he played the legends tournament or something & looked older than guys like Misbah & Younis who seemed fitter, faster, & more proactive than him despite them being way older than him.

The hero from Hyderabad has his best days behind him, he should focus on playing Ramadan tournaments, tape ball cricket, or other such cricket now, this stuff is beyond him for the moment.

Agreed he wasted his talent and only he's to blame. His awful fitness along with fielding never really improved even in his young days. He should stick to playing Sindh league, Ramadan tournaments. There was a lot of noise wanting him in the team till a month or so back. He's clearly done even at domestic level, let alone international.

They have a decent team. Faheem, tahir baig, Farhan, Qasim Akram, Ihsanullah though coming back from injury, ikhlaq who people want in the team along with huraira. Then you have umer amin. They have a solid team. But when you have sarfraz part of the management this is bound to happen. Their team is certainly not bad enough to be on a 10 games losing streak. They deserve this for playing Shakeel sheikh's son.

Fakhar Zaman and Khawaja Nafay lead Markhors to victory in Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup

Openers Khawaja Mohammad Nafay and Fakhar Zaman powered UMT Markhors to an eight-wicket win over Engro Dolphins, taking the top spot in the five-team Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup table on Wednesday.

Nafay hammered three sixes and seven boundaries in an unbeaten 44-ball 66, while Fakhar Zaman scored his first half-century of the tournament with a quick 34-ball 53, featuring a six and eight boundaries. Their aggressive 113-run opening partnership made it easy for UMT Markhors to chase down a modest target of 140 in just 14.1 overs.

Dolphins spinner Shayan Sheikh picked up 2-16, but it was not enough to halt the Markhors’ charge.

The win propelled UMT Markhors to the top of the table with 10 points from six matches. ABL Stallions are in second place with eight points, followed by Nurpur Lions and Lake City Panthers, both with six points but separated by net run-rate. Engro Dolphins, having lost all six of their matches, are out of contention for the final on December 25th.

Earlier, Engro Dolphins struggled with their batting after being put into bat. Openers Mirza Tahir Baig and Sahibzada Farhan fell cheaply, leaving the team at 14-2. Waqar Ahmed, playing his first match of the tournament, top-scored with a 47-ball 55, featuring six boundaries and a six. Contributions from Salman Khan Jnr (13), Qasim Akram (31), and skipper Faheem Ashraf (20) took the score to 139-8.

Nisar Ahmad was the standout bowler for UMT Markhors, claiming 4-22, making him the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 12 wickets. Akif Javed also contributed with 2-28.

Scores in brief:
  • Match 15: UMT Markhors beat Engro Dolphins by eight wickets at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium

This is a very mediocre tournament.Scrapping 8 regional team format was a big mistake. Two more teams could have been added but scrapping the format was wrong.Groups within PCB and vested interests do not want 8 or 10 regional teams. They want jobs for the boys.10 first eleven and 10 second eleven teams are enough.

Nurpur Lions secure thrilling victory over Lake City Panthers

Rawalpindi, December 19, 2024: A nail-biting finish saw Nurpur Lions emerge victorious over Lake City Panthers in a crucial match of the Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Shahid Aziz's masterful bowling performance, defending 16 runs in the final overs, proved decisive as Nurpur Lions secured an eight-run win. Lake City Panthers, chasing a target of 161, fell short, finishing on 152-6 in their allotted overs.

Danish Aziz led the Panthers' charge with an unbeaten 38 off 27 balls, including five boundaries. Umar Siddiq contributed a solid 38 off 28 balls, featuring a six and four boundaries. Sajid Khan struck two sixes in his eight-ball 17, while Amad Butt chipped in with an unbeaten 16 off 13 balls.

However, it was Nurpur Lions' spinners who dominated the match. Sharoon Siraj claimed three wickets for 19 runs, effectively stifling the Panthers' scoring.

Nurpur Lions' innings was initially a strong one, with Imam-ul-Haq and Hasan Nawaz putting on 85 runs in just 7.2 overs. Imam's 57 off 36 balls, featuring eight boundaries and a six, was a highlight. Hasan Nawaz contributed 41 runs off 22 balls, including three sixes and four boundaries.

However, the momentum shifted after Nawaz's dismissal. Nurpur Lions lost wickets in a flurry, ultimately finishing on 160 all out. Shahzaib Khan and Khushdil Shah contributed 16 and 13 runs respectively, the only other batters to reach double figures.

Usama Mir and Mohammad Wasim Jnr were the key bowlers for Nurpur Lions, taking 4-23 and 2-22 respectively.

Scores in Brief:

Stallions thump Markhors, Afaq hat-trick lifts Lions to the top

Fast bowler Afaq Afridi rewrote record books with the best bowling figures by a Pakistan bowler on T20 debut and a hat-trick, lifting Nurpur Lions to the top of the Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup with a seven-wicket win over Engro Dolphins at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.

The second last double-header saw ABL Stallions displacing UMT Markhors from the top of the table in the morning game with a clinical 29-run win.

The second match saw Afaq Afridi register the best figures on debut by any Pakistan bowler with 5-18 including a hat-trick to demolish Dolphins for 71 in 16 overs.

Nurpur Lions raced to victory in just nine overs to go top of the five-team table with ten points and a better net run-rate of 1.07. ABL Stallions are now second and UMR Markhors third -- both teams have ten points each but Stallions have a better net run-rate.

Lake City Panthers are fourth, securing six points. The Engro Dolphins have lost all their seven games.

Afaq bettered previous best figures on debut by Zeeshan Khan (5-19) on debut for Multan Tigers against Karachi Zebras at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore in 2005.

Afaq thrilled the crowd by dismissing Faheem Ashraf (three), Mohammad Abbas Afridi (nought) and Shayan Sheikh (nought) off successive deliveries in the 10th over as Dolphins slumped to 38-8.

Fellow pacer Musa Khan also shone with the ball, claiming 4-14.

It was the tenth-wicket stand of 27 between Awais Ali, 15 off 17 balls with a boundary, and Mohammad Rameez Jnr, who scored 11 off 18 balls, that guided Dolphins to a sub-par total of 71 all out in 16 overs.

Opener Waqar Ahmed was the top scorer with a run-a-ball 16.

Nurpur Lions also lost Hasan Nawaz and Sharoon Siraj without scoring to Faheem Ashraf in the first over but Omair Bin Yousuf (30-ball 34 with six fours) and Mohammad Taha (19-ball 28 with four boundaries) saw off the target in nine overs. They shared a third-wicket stand of 66, with Khushdil Shah hitting the winning boundary.

Pacer Mohammad Ali returned figures of 4-13 and Jahandad Khan fetched 3-9 as UMT Markhors failed in the chase of a modest Stallions target of 148 runs with only Saad Masood fighting with a 29-ball 38.

Markhors were finally bowled out for 118 in 18.3 overs.

Markhors lost Fakhar Zaman to Jahandad with the first ball of the second over for one. It started a procession of wickets as Markhors were in tatters at 36-6.

Ali dismissed Mohammad Faizan (seven) and skipper Iftikhar Ahmed (nought) while Jahandad had Mohammad Khawaja Nafay (17) and Abdul Samad without scoring. It became 37-7 when Mohammad Nawaz fell to Usman Tariq for nought.

But Saad cracked two sixes and three boundaries in his knock and added 57 for the eighth wicket with Nisar Ahmed who scored a 21-ball 22 with two sixes. Ali came for his second spell to dismiss Saad and Zahid Mehmood (three) to finish the match.

Earlier, sent into bat, ABL Stallions also found the going tough on a difficult pitch. Shoaib Malik used all his experience to hold the innings with a patient 28-ball 27 which had three boundaries. Taimur Khan and Maaz Sadaqat made 20 each while Mohammad Haris scored 19 as Stallions managed 147-9 in 20 overs.

Jahandad also chipped in with 16 off just nine balls to deservedly earn player of the match award.

For UMT Markhors Akif Javed (2-16), Zahid Mehmood (2-23) and Bilawal Bhatti (2-24) shared the spoils in bowling.

Scores in brief:

What's this tournament achieving?

There's no crowd nothing at all.

The ground over all looks pathetic. There's barely grass on the outfield as it's yellowish / dead grass.

Picture quality as usual hazy and blurry.

Money and resources wasted.

A decent crowd gathered today in Rawalpindi during the match between Stallions and Dolphins in the PCB Champions T20 Cup 2024, and the crowd showed their support for Stallions' Jahandad Khan.

ABL Stallions cruise into final, UMT Markhors to face Nurpur Lions in Qualifier

ABL Stallions skipper Mohammad Haris knocked an unbeaten half century while pacer Mohammad Ali grabbed four wickets to guide their team into the final with a thumping six-wicket win over Engro Dolphins on the last day of the double-league games in the Bahria Town Champions T20 Cup at Rawalpindi Stadium on Saturday.

Ali grabbed 4-15 and Hussain Talat 3-16 to bulldoze Dolphins to 131 all out before Haris cracked a 30-ball 52 not out with eight boundaries and a six to see his team overhaul the chase in 14 overs.

ABL Stallions finished with 12 points from eight games, as many as UMT Markhors got in their eight, but with a superior net run-rate Stallions qualified for the 25 December final. Markhors, who earlier in the day thumped Lake City Panthers by six wickets will play the Qualifier against Nurpur Lions on Monday. Lions finished with five wins in their quota of eight games, securing ten points.

Lake City Panthers scored six points while Engro Dolphins failed to win any of their eight games.

Once Ali and Hussain rocked Dolphins with their devastating bowling the writing was on the wall for Dolphins. Qasim Akram hit 34-ball 40 with two sixes and as many boundaries while skipper Faheem Ashraf scored 23-ball 26 with five hits to the rope. Abbas Afridi chipped in with 11-ball 21 with three sixes.

Yasir Khan with 32 off 26 balls with six boundaries and Maaz Sadaqat with 15-ball 28 inclusive of four boundaries and a six gave Stallions an ideal start of 58 by 5.4 overs. Haris then built on that with a brisk knock, hitting the winning boundary.

In the first match of the day, sent into bat, Lake City Panthers managed 155-6 in their 20 overs with Umar Siddiq top-scoring with a 34-ball 41. He cracked three fours and two sixes. Arafat Minhas 24-ball 34 (three fours and a six) and Abdul Wahid Bangalzai 25-ball 24 with four boundaries were the others who contributed well. Left-arm pacer Mohammad Imran Jnr was the best bowler for Markhors with 3-35.

UMT Markhors overhauled the target in 13.3 overs for the loss of four wickets. Muhammad Imran hit a 34-ball 69 not out with five maximums and six boundaries. He added a quick 81 for the third wicket with Fakhar Zaman whose 28-ball 49 had seven boundaries and two sixes. Abdul Samad showed his six hitting prowess with five hits over the boundary in his blistering 34 not out which came off just nine balls.
