I think it's a perfect opportunity for Malik and Hafeez to retire after Winning Champions Trophy. They will likely to be rested or dropped out from team very soon, isn't better to retire then get dropped?

Agreed. If Hafeez retires today, he will probably have retired after playing the best ODI knock of his entire life.

Shouldn't put them in the same sentence.

Hafeez is miles better than Malik but got extreme hate, for not even doing worse than Malik .

They have to go eventually and should start with Malik. Can keep Hafeez the allrounder for some time.

It seems like they both come in a package, it will be unfair to drop one, both needs to retire or be ready to be rested against Srilanka series.

Yes that is a good idea. I don't think both will have a greater cricketing achievement in their careers. Even if Pakistan somehow manages to win the 2019 WC, both Hafeez and Malik will be so far into the twilights of their careers that they won't have any impact.

Hafeez played a wonderful knock today, shows how selfish he usually is in the normal matches though

Hafeez was brilliant today. I think he should stick around until the end of the next WC

Hafeez has 10 years left of more cricket... he should retire in 2025 the minimum..

Hafeez was great today but Malik failed again in an ICC tournament match.

Both need to go and give Harris Sohail & Talat Hussain a chance.

Yeah.

Should be more like Malik.

Eh...hold on, I think Hafeez may have scored more in this innings than Malik did the entire tournament.

Never happening with Pakistani cricketers.

Even though I feel that Malik is still important this is the best time to retire for ANY cricketer above 33. This is a huge achievement!

Mohammad Hafeez - Thank you! Please retire! We wish you well and will remember you always

On Ten Sports Danny Morrison was praising Hafeez and saying it was a great innings and there can be no better way to go out than winning such a tournament and Misbah was like...... :misbah3 haha
Don't see Hafeez or Malik retiring any time soon, at least not voluntarily. Hafeez does have a role to play if he can accept that his batting is not good enough for the top and shifts down to 6 or 7 for the role that he played today. Malik too can be handy in Asian conditions but needs to up his game.

One of them should be dropped , both same kind of players.

If hafeez wants to stay , he needs to bat down the order , the way he batted today. Also , needs to bowl some overs every game. No more free rides.

Malik needs to retire. Can't score against teams unless they are Bangladesh, Zimbabwe or Srilanka. He doesn't even bowl any more. Hafeez at least gives something with the ball even if he is a mediocre batsman. I think Pakistan needs to play Hafeez like how India play Ravindra Jadeja. Low down and keep him as a finisher. Today he proved he can be amazing as a finisher.

I think it's not a bad thought and I personally would want them to as well. But the problem is they won't and Mickey would probably want them around until the 2019 World Cup. If he can get Hafeez to play like he did today then well he's gonna stay. Malik is the best fielder Pakistan has and after the 100 he got against West Indies a couple of weeks ago, he ain't likely to be dropped anytime soon. Malik did actually have a disappointing tournament but like Hafeez, won't be dropped

It's the best time to retire!

Today was the best farewell match ever. One can't ask for more. Many great cricketers from Pakistan did not have this privilege. Who can forget the way great Inzi had to retire from the ODIs.

For me the take home message from this torunament is: TRUST YOUR YOUNGSTERS!

No way I am going to tolerate any "seniors" anymore.

At least one of the two has to leave ASAP.

Since Hafeez did deliver in the final, you could say its Malik who has to leave.

Still I hope Hafeez leaves sooner than later and doesn't use his knock in the finals to push for a place in the WC19 squad.

I hope and believe Mickey has a vision of where he wants the Pakistan team to be in a few years. To persist with Hafeez and Malik, you may get some short term gain but it could hamper the development of players like Shadab who could develop into an outstanding batsman from what I've seen as well as other promising youngsters such as Talat, Hassaan and Hasan Mosin for example.

I hope, now he has more leverage, Mickey exercise's his authority in particular on the LOI squad and looks move them on sooner rather than later.

It's the perfect time for them to retire and that's why they will still carry on playing

On basis of recent performance, Malik shouldn't be in the team anymore.

Hafeez can stay, but I think he should bat at #5.

Don't get carried away, as of now they both are fine but yes, youngsters should be tried and if they stake a claim then the positions of Hafeez and Malik might come under pressure.

Hafeez, Malk and Azhar - now is the perfect time to retire from ODI's on a high

We have just won the CT and all of our players I am sure feel like kings right now and are rightfully national heroes.

However, when the dust settles - this is in fact the perfect opportunity for Malik and Hafeez to call it quits on their careers and for Azhar to retire from ODI's. Yes Hafeez played a brillant knock today and Azhar was amongst the runs throughout the CT but they need to move on now when their credibility and reputation is still in tact as the nation celebrates their victory.

Moving forward - I would like to see Usman Salahuddin and Haris Sohail in the middle order ASAP. I cannot stress how important it is for both of them to get consistent game time whilst they can. If we have learnt any lesson from the mismanagement of Fawad Alam - players need to be thrown in the deep end before it is too late and they are considered to old. They can form a very stable middle order for us for many years and Haris also has a utility as a spinning all-rounder.

Now that an opening spot open up - I would like to give Mohd. Rizwan another chance. Yes he suffered from poor form throughout 2016 but a comeback coul be frutiful for the team. As an opener - he can take advantage of he PP overs and plays his attacking game and would also mask his weakness against spin. Plus he is a brilliant fielder and a capable backup for Sarfraz as WK.

From this squad I assume only a change or two will happen. If Sharjeel is back it will be end of Azhar as well.
Shehzad will be dropped so as Imad for poor fitness.

We have 6 weak links in our team
Azhar------ Won't be drop so soon perform consistently
Shehzad---- will be dropped for any new player
Malik-------Won't be dropped for Sri Lanka innings
Hafeez-----Won't be dropped for final innings
Imad------- Needs to be dropped
Wahab-----Hopefully never given chance

Also hoping no more recycle TTFs like Gul, Sami......

thts wht i have been saying all along

they can retire with dignity and honour or face indignity

hafeez still has something to boast about, malik sadly has nothing

You need a mixture of youth and experience in any playing 11. If there is a weak link in this line up then it's in the batting position not the all rounder though we need a seaming all rounder. We don't have a full time off spinner so hafeez as an all rounder is more than handy provided he comes lower down the batting.

Shohaib is a bowler who made himself a batsman. He's not a natural batsman and offers very little with the ball. I would drop Shohaib And make sure a full time batsman comes in his place. Even if that batsman dabbles in a bit of left arm spin he's infinitely preferable to Shohaib. But I think hafeez needs to stay a bit longer.

they wont. they see the upcoming tours (Pakistan vs SL) as an opportunity to cement their place further for the tour to South Africa.
Mickey and Sarfaraz have earned a lot of political capital with this victory, they should use it to blood more youngsters against SL

malik needs to go hafeez and azhar need to stay. Hafeez till 2019 WC atleast. build a team around them.

They should. But I would let go of Azhar first, too slow and his batting doesn't have place in the ODI game. Yes he's useful when things are going pear shaped, but he's also going to prevent us getting big totals. We need to have faith that our batting line up won't collapse, no team really has an anchor role anymore. I still didn't see signs of him being able to accelerate, and it always felt his team mates were able to play quicker than him without too much trouble.

I would substitute Azhar for Haris. Make Haris open I think, he has the technique to do it, and can play a long innings.

Malik looked in form, just had a bad CT. I think keep him for now, let's see how he performs in the following series. He's been scoring big and quickly apart from this CT, so hopefully goes back to that.

Hafeez had an unexpectedly good CT, the extra bowling option is useful (though not sure good enough to hold down the allrounder spot anymore), and can still perform lower down/when he's played himself in (WI series). On the other hand clearly past his prime, doesn't have the reflexes to bat at the top which is why he's so shaky early on. Bat him down at 6 behind Malik and Sarfraz for now, and if a suitable replacement comes, replace him. I don't see many replacements atm sadly with Umar out of form, but think if we start trying out a few in T20s maybe we can find one.

Someone saying Rizwan, I don't think such a flawed player can succeed, far too weak against spin. Needs to work on that a lot before coming back.

In the mid-2000s, we could often rely on two senior middle-order pros in Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf to bail us whenever we lost early wickets.

Now we have two rejects of the Inzamam era in Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez, neither one of them specialist batsmen, taking two key middle-order positions. With all due respect, if these two are your "experienced hands" then there's something wrong. Neither Hafeez or Malik average above 30 this year against non-minnows in ODIs. Everyone is aware of their weaknesses against pace - exposed in the New Zealand whitewash in January.

If we don't move on from these two at some point, then Steyn, Rabada and Ngidi will see to their retirements before the 2019 World Cup.

Yes, Mickey will have to take relatively untested juniors to the World Cup
