According to social media:

Virat Kohli from the first slip asking KL Rahul (via hand gestures), who's on the boundary line if bottle cork's were thrown at him.

He then asks him to throw it back to the buffoon in the crowd.

:D

lol@ sole excitement of the day

Kohli apparently can take a line from the great Rajkumar of Bollywood..
"Jaani - people who stay in bubble houses shouldn't throw corks at others"

As India vs England Day 3 of the second Test is underway at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground, a shameful incident occurred at the 'Home of Cricket'. As skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow are playing solid in the middle, English fans from the stands threw a wine cork at Team India's opener, KL Rahul, who was fielding at the boundary line when English fans from the Lord's stand threw a wine cork at him. This gesture of the English fans fumed Team India's skipper Virat Kohli who was fielding in the slips.

Then, angry Virat Kohli gestured KL Rahul to throw it back to the stands. Reportedly, Team India complained to the umpires after the wine cork incident. Notably, during India vs England first Test, a few English fans reportedly hurled racial abuse at Indian spectators and players.

Earlier, on Day 2 of the first Test, a few English supporters shouted racial comments towards Indian spectators and insulted players, including Mohammed Shami and Virat Kohli, according to a 31-year-old British-Indian woman who had gone to Nottingham to watch the series opener. The woman took to Reddit to share her personal experience from the stands at Trent Bridge.

The woman alleged that a few English fans were continuously directing insults at Indian players fielding near the boundary line, and when her family asked them to stop doing it, they said, "Go back to India". The woman said she reported the incident to a steward, who ejected the fan, who had asked them to "Go back to India".

Following the incident, the woman and her family were shifted to a stand mostly populated by Indian spectators, but a few English fans from the other side kept chanting "Delta", referring to the Indian variant of the COVID-19 disease.

shambolic and disrespectful, the game should have been stopped until the mess was cleaned up and the offenders ejected.

Shambolic and embarrassing stuff at such a prestigious venue. The offenders needs to be punished and not allowed to enter Lords venue again.

Get over it any **** makes the news these days. It weren’t hand Grenades thrown at him !!

As India and England continue to fight it out in the ongoing second Test at the Lord's Cricket Ground, there was some bad crowd behaviour on show as some unruly fans decided to throw champagne corks at India cricketer KL Rahul on Saturday. The incident happened in the 69th over of the innings when Rahul was fielding at third man.

Skipper Virat Kohli also intervened and he was seen gesturing towards the opening batsman to know more about the incident. An over later, the TV visuals showed that many champagne corks were thrown inside the playing field, and the Indian players were visibly left frustrated. Coming to the game, England skipper Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow showed remarkable skill and determination to frustrate the Indian bowling attack in the opening session of Day 3.

At the lunch break, England's score read 216/3, still trailing the visitors by 148 runs. Root (89*) and Bairstow (51*) are currently unbeaten at the crease. The first session saw 97 runs being scored from 28 overs and the hosts did not lose even a single wicket in the morning session. Resuming at 119/3, England skipper Root brought up his half-century in just the second over of the day.

Root along with Bairstow saw out the first hour rather easily and it was the Indian bowlers who were put under a bit of pressure by the duo. In the first innings, India was bundled out for 364 and KL Rahul (129) was the top scorer for the visitors. For England, James Anderson took a five-wicket haul and this was the pacer's 31st fifer in the longest

The Brits can't hold their alcohol and that is a known fact. Now they're proving it literally.

A bit of a generalisation mate, that’s like suggesting most Indians are weak weasels who work in IT

I think it would have been appropriate for KL Rahut to jump into the crowd and beat up the people who threw corks at him

Booing another country's anthem at Euros, violence after Euro Finals, hurling racist abuses during the first test match, now throwing a champagne bottle cork at KL Rahul..

I'm starting believe English sports fans are the most pathetic.

English cricket fans seem to be following in the footsteps of football fans.

This is disgraceful and I hope the ECB are finalised.

The last time I was at Lord's for a test and sitting in the grandstand, it was a fairly common occurrence for some drunk fans to pop champagne corks and lob them on to the outfield. It was left to the poor stewards to pick up the corks at the end of each session.

English crowd used to be very good. Don't know what's happened in last few years.

:D

and here is Kohli

Why don't they just ban alcohol at sport matches? It's obvious that English fans can't act sensibility when they are drunk.

Huge earner for the grounds.

All about the pounds.

Have to say, Rahul reacted to the situation very well. His batting performance in this series has frustrated the English fans and gotten into their nerves.

They are having nightmares of Rahul's phenomenal batting this series. :inti

Kohli showing his street fighting instincts - obviously not mentally sane to represent the country in sports let alone lead.

Kohli is averaging 28 in last two years in tests ...

His on pitch immature antics at this age with joke like form is ruining his own legacy.

Oh that's just great, as it was an Indian team getting abused , no issue there
Just take it with bowed heads, huh?
Hopefully we indians will also wait for our turn. As we have stopped turning other cheek anymore

Ok so your plan is to pelt the England team with corks when they come to India?

Indiana should sit back and relax, wait for the next IPL and throw some bottle of Raam full with Indian coins to Morgan, Stokes, Butter with the strength and accuracy of Neeraj

Of course not, but these are early days and it shouldn't be tolerated for any team.
But it's not surprising that some are supporting English, only because indians are at receiving end.

Not a big deal tbh. Our Indian crowd used throw glass bottles at the players, they’re just throwing bottle corks. Our public even attacks our own players’ homes, let alone attacking the opponents. Embarrassed our guys are making a big issue out of this, it happens.

Get over it any **** makes the news these days. It weren’t hand Grenades thrown at him !!

Is this a joke?

Idiotic comments like this is why we continue to have racists hurl abuse and insult minorities because AAli98 thinks you should get over it.

Firing corks from champagne bottles happens in every Lords Test match. This is an accepted tradition you are allowed to bring your own champagne and when people open the bottle they fire the cork. Of course, racist comments were made this is unacceptable, but I don't think these were at Lords. India would know of the tradition of firing corks though, it's not meant to be disrespectful to anyone.

English are going backwards. First of all their weather is not suitable for playing cricket and now this. KL should have just jumped into crowd and made a mincemeat of that person. Kohli was very mild in suggesting to throw it back.

Move on and play the match. These things happen when a few drunk fans start having too much fun.

Overall, British crowds are very well behaved in cricket grounds.

Is there actually any proof of the crowd throwing corks at any player or has any member of the India touring party actually claimed that happened?

At least they pretended to show some class and dignity back in the days. Now even that is flushed down the toilet. Euro 2021 is a glimpse of Britain showing their true colours.

ECB should investigate htis properly after the Indian team falsely accused some Australian spectators of racist abuse.

Yeah, good point. It needs to be investigated if the crowd really did this. It could also be that it rained bottle corks instead of water droplets.

Too much alcohol and smoking goes in English stadiums. I was outside Lords yesterday in the afternoon and the entire lane was smelling of strong liquor. The fact that its a test match, meaning you dont have to watch every ball, people spend significant amount of time in the bar and smoking zones :))

India wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has said someone from the crowd threw a ball on pacer Mohammed Siraj while he was fielding in the ongoing third Test against England on Wednesday.

Pant revealed the incident made India skipper Virat Kohli "upset". "I think, somebody threw a ball inside, at Siraj, so he [Kohli] was upset," said Pant in a virtual press conference after the close of the first day's play.

"You can say whatever you want to chant, but don't throw things at the fielders and all those things. It is not good for cricket, I guess," he added.

In the third session of the opening day of the third Test, a section of spectators seemed to have asked Siraj the score of the match to tease the pacer. The India pacer however came with a brilliant reply as he gestured 1-0 (India leading the Test series) towards the crowd.

Earlier this month, during the second Test match, there was some bad crowd behaviour on a show as some unruly fans threw champagne corks at India batsman KL Rahul.

Kohli also intervened and he was seen gesturing towards the opening batsman to know more about the incident. An over later, the TV visuals showed that many champagne corks were thrown inside the playing field, and the Indian players were visibly left frustrated.

Coming back to the game, after bundling out India for 78, openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed ensured that England took the honours on the opening day of the ongoing third Test.

At stumps, England's score reads 120/0 and the hosts have extended their lead to 42 runs. For the Three Lions, Burns (52*) and Hameed (60*) are currently unbeaten at the crease.

Talking about the pitch on opening day, Pant said, "They took the heavy roller, the wicket was much more settled down, and they batted nicely also," he said. "But when we batted, the wicket was slightly soft, and they bowled in good areas, but we could have applied [ourselves] much better."

Both England batsmen managed to see off the final session and the hosts concluded the opening day with all ten wickets intact, extending the lead to 42.

There's a very clear difference between popped corks ending up on the outfield and corks being thrown directly at players as the thread title suggests which hasn't been claimed by any Indian player and there's no suggestion that it happened.

Corks dont fly out and land somewhere like that.

Why do you think Kohli was asking his fielder to throw it back?

theres a tradition in Lords to see who can pop the champagne cork the furthest onto the pitch, this tradition goes back years and every summer barring last when there wasnt crowds you will see champagne corks on the ground, whether there was any racist abuse is another story and is defo unacceptable, but the corks are a bit of harmless fun.

That's exactly what corks do unless you put the effort in to stop them.

Why do you think Kohli was asking his fielder to throw it back?

Because corks on the outfield probably isn't particularly useful, not that I expect they're overly distracting.

I'm contesting the accusation that the crowd were deliberately throwing corks at Rahul which hasn't even been made by the Indian team.

The fan should be permanently identified and banned if it was racist abuse. Perhaps he just had one tow many beer's:kohli Having attended some Ind0-Pak matches abuse is rampant there as well.
