There is nothing worse than being a Karachi fan. Squad isn't as miserable as last few years but come on man, it is filled with uncles and devoid of any young talent barring Minhas & Abbas.

Riazullah selected in the emerg and the question is why? They did the same nonsense thing picking guys like Saad who were U19. What are the odds any U19 player is going to be useful in PSL is beyond me. As an U19 you are extremely raw and as a batter, you hardly have any power developed which is what you need in T20's. No idea who Fawad Ali and it doesn't seem like he's ever even played domestic. Picking him when someone useful like Ubaid Shah is available is utter nonsense. You have a genuine proper bowler available and you pick some complete random.

Glad they got Abbas Afridi though. Bit surprised they got Jamal too but I guess considering the lack of impactful bats, they will try to build a deeper batting lineup. Khushdil being picked up seems annoying. He might be good but the problem will be the same as last season where Minhas & his role gets blocked. I hope that's not the case but that would be my concern.

It's quite lame & telling that Karachi batting wise has no great local talent. Their batting will rely on Warner/Williamson/Vince which tells you what an incredibly poor job they've done at finding bats despite being at the bottom regularly.

Too many openers and one type of players. Warner was a good pick. But not sure how you fit Kane there.

David Warner as KK captain? Can that ignite Karachi's interest in the depleting franchise?

Confused by Kane Williamson being in supplementary. Does that mean he gets a significantly lower paycheque than Warner?

I still believe they have a decent squad this year. Last year they were just abysmally awful

They were hoping to make a wholesome squad like they have in Multan Sultans last year

Instead, they received Chittar all around the world and Karachi for the travesty they selected! Deservedly so! The countries most intelligent and cosmopolitan city doesn’t care about wholesomeness! They want real cricketers and not KPop performers

which player gives u a positive vibe this year? i cant see any tbh
Well,

Warner lifts their side massively. 50% enhance of squad strength right there.

The much improved, stronger Pakistan core this time:

Abbas Afridi, Aamer Jamal, Khushdil Shah, Irfan Niazi, Hassan Ali. This is much better than the out of sync, characterless lot they had last year.

They could have done better than Milne, but he isn’t a bad option either for spearhead seam.

Kane might be done but he is still ok for holding one end for guys like Niazi, Khushdil and Jamal. He can help guide them.

They had nothing besides maybe Pollard going for them last year. Zahid found form so they had a bit of control, otherwise they struggled throughout.

Warner
Kane
Abbas
Jamal
Khushdil
Milne

These are very strong additions

How did they end up with a squad this good? Would be incredible if they manage to screw up this season.

1. David Warner
2. Shan Masood (c)
3. Kane Williamson
4. Irfan Khan
5. Liton Das/Tim Seifert (wk)
6. Khushdil Shah
7. Mohammad Nabi/Adam Milne
8. Aamir Jamal
9. Abbas Afridi
10. Hasan Ali
11. Riazullah

Riazullah is a batsmen from the the current u19 batch.. Might as well not play him if he's batting at 11.

Sorry for the essay reply, but I wanted to ponder if this squad is actually ‘good’. It’s definitely a group of good players, but I can already see tricky team combination issues, with three major problems and two minor ones:

Major problems:
1) Where does Shan bat?
2) Who keeps and in what position do they bat?
3) How can they maximise their emerging pick in the line up?

Minor issues:
4) How do they fit in all their platinum picks in the team given the above issues?
5) How do you fit Arafat Minhas in your team, given his ability and potential to be a future captain?

Let’s address these:

Major points

1) KK social media has referred to Shan as a ‘squad member’. Given that Shan’s been in a similar position before, I.e. leading Multan for a year before handing over to Rizwan. So if he’s not captain, he sits out. Keeping him in means better, more expensive options sit out.
2) Dropping Shan helps the keeper position, as either Seifert or Litton play as an opener. If Shan plays, these two have to play at 4, square peg in a round hole.
3) Given that the top 3 will be Warner/Other opener/ Vince and that Niazi and Khushdil will play 5 and 6, who plays at 4? Niazi and Khushdil can go up one place, but you’re then left without a finisher at 6. Riazullah the u19 batter has played at 4 domestically and occasionally for Pakistan u19s. Playing him sorts out your emerging slot, but the boy bats at ODI s/r. Will need to play more aggresively in this team.

Minor issues:
4) As a platinum pick, does Milne play every game? Especially as you have Hasan, Mir Hamza and Abbas Afridi in your squad?
5) Minhas HAS to play in this team. He’s the type whose floor is a 7 out of ten performance everytime and his ceiling is high. The best teams nurture their really promising young players for future captaincy positions (see SSA for LQ, Shaddy for ISLU), and Minhas has that type of strong personality. KK cannot drop him to play Khushdil as a fifth bowler.

Thus, I think it’s a good group of players, but getting this team to gel is the question.

Good group of players, yeah. As far as gelling as a team is concerned, I'm not sure if that has ever worked for them.

Some very good questions by you, not sure if I have the answers. Personally, I can't exactly figure out their playing eleven either. Apparently, Riazullah is a batter, so not even sure how the emerging player fits in there either. If Shan Masood is not the captain then its very hard to see him playing too.

Most likely XI at the beginning will be;

1. Warner
2. Litton (WK)
3. Vince
4. Shan
5. Niazi
6. Khushdil
7. Arafat
8. Abbas
9. Hasan
10. Fawad Ali
11. Milne

They could play this team, but Shan at 4 is a momentum killer. I’d even play Omair Bin Yousuf at 4, (he’s played there before for Sindh) but it’s unlikely they do that, given that they picked him in supplementary.

That is a very strong playing XI. I think Karachi Kings will make at least the final of the upcoming PSL with the kind of squad they've picked this time.

Omair bin Yousuf should try and impress Warner in nets and let the overseas boys push for his case.

The cakes Haider and Shan won’t really do anything unless Warner tells them to play him.
