We received an interesting picture from a game of tennis-ball cricket in which the middle-stump has fallen over, but the bails stayed put.

Middle stump is down, but the bails stay put! Middle stump is down, but the bails stay put!
The fan asked if it was a genuine dismissal, so we looked up the laws.

29.1.1. The wicket is put down if a bail is completely removed from the top of the stumps, or a stump is struck out of the ground

Though the bails remain undisturbed, the batsman is OUT.

Tough luck to him!

Wonder if this will ever happen :) Or is this a very desi thing?

Tough luck? The guy lost his middle stump!

How much more good luck does he need that even after losing his middle stump, his dismissal needed outside intervention to establish that he's out. :D

Gravity defying bails save the day for a lucky batsman.

I remember a similar case when i was playing cricket once. We were using branches of trees as stumps. When i was batting, the ball passed between two stumps (i guess they were placed a bit too far away from each other). The "bails" didnt dislodge obviously. Everybody knew i was bowled but i was adjudged not out :srini

Gully rules should have been applied here not the ICC rules, as you didn't follow ICC guidlines for the stump then why were you following ICC rules. :D Consistancy in rules is what we are fighting for you see.
