Razzaq a coach ? He had a lousy attitude to fitness and fielding during his playing days.

AR should end up as one of the best coaches around, if he is ready to invest few years in it. Not sure about his academic background, but probably he hasn't completed St. 10, so it'll be tough for him, but possible after 20+ years in cricket across globe. I think, he has joined SNPL to keep his fitness, which should keep him in some lower level PLs & SLs for couple more years, which is fine, but he should never be allowed to play a single FC match further.

Coaching & playing career is totally different, it's foolish to judge a coaching potential based on playing career. For Buchanan, Arthur, Ford in cricket, there are Mourinho, Wenger, Sir Alex, Rafa, Klopp in soccer.

A Razzak was a fantastic chaser, he could change his batting according to situation, he could target bowlers & situation to hit, he could work out batsmen with ball (probably troubled Tendulkar most) - all these indicates he has a functional brain. Education is required because if he has to complete Level 2 or above certification, he'll need that; but it's not essential - almost illiterate Latin players are qualifying for pro coaching badge in soccer, so AR can do that as well from MCC or Centre for Cricket Excellence, Brisbane. Most important factors in coaching are problem identifying & finding a solution, a practice method for particular problem area, appropriate & effective communication, man management etc. I think, anyone can find an MCC coaching book and show the out swing grip, probably that's not what a Level 3+ coach should need to teach, rather his role is more of strategic plans & counter measures - Razzak has enough quality for that.

Fielding is an issue for the player, not for the coach - he won't do fielding, he'll get the players to reach acceptable level by his specialist fielding coach. Also, Razzak's decline in fielding was entirely because of the then PAK team culture - star players could get away with that. Fielding is a thanksless job & this is one area that hardly any talent is required to reach a certain level - purely a function of time spent on it & how much one puts value to fielding. During his time every player could realize that backed on their batting or bowling Inzi, Anwar, Kaneria, MoYo, Shoaib, Moin .... could get away with fielding & fitness - and these were role models for younger players. I am sure AR would have been a fantastic fielder now - I have seen him in 1997 to 1999 period, when he was not yet a star. Also, he was born as 5/6 years old, if you believe that in 2005, he was just 26.

Many PAK players playing in Dhaka league used to play side matches in many such KO tournaments- and most of them would put a clause that they won't field or at most stand at slip throughout the match - bat in top order, bowl full quota at one go & then rest at pavilion. More or less, if allowed apart from YK, Waquar & Latif every PAK players from ARs era would have opted for that luxuary if it was allowed in internationals, therefore I don't think it was a problem of skills - his catching, throwing techniques were perfect, could bowl 10 overs at stress at full throttle, so neither fitness or stamina was any factor - but his execution in field wasn't above club level, because he never had the confidence built through hours of fielding practice.
