Noman Ali ruled out of the Test series against Australia

Melbourne - December 23, 2023

Noman Ali has been ruled out of the Test series against Australia due to Acute Appendicitis.

Noman Ali complained of sudden and severe abdominal pain yesterday, leading to examinations and scans in emergency that confirmed a diagnosis of acute appendicitis.

On Surgeon's advice; he underwent Laparoscopic Appendectomy today in the morning.

Post-surgery he is stable and doing fine. He will be discharged later this afternoon.

This series has become a nightmare for the Pakistan players. 3 injuries on the same tour is something I have not seen before.

Embarrassing. Pakistan should now forfeit the series.

I know that such issues cannot be detected but almost feel that Pakistan players should be given a full cat-scan before boarding a flight for Australia.

Not a bad idea.

Reminds me of this image from Total Recall (previous version)

Sounds like murphy's law - what can go wrong will go wrong.

Wish him a speedy recovery

Appendicitis ? It's a young man's condition usually , no?

How did Noman get it at his advanced age ?

Mohammad Nawaz replaces Noman Ali

The national selection committee, headed by Wahab Riaz, has approved Mohammad Nawaz as the replacement of Noman Ali for the ongoing Test series against Australia. Left-arm spinner Noman was ruled out of the three-Test match series after being diagnosed with acute appendicitis. He underwent a surgery today.

29-year-old left-arm spinner Nawaz, who is already part of the 17-member T20I squad against New Zealand commencing from 12 January in New Zealand, will fly to Australia on the first available flight.

Wahab Riaz, chief selector men’s cricket team, said: “It is really unfortunate that Noman Ali is not available for the Test matches. Due to logistical challenges, including visa issues for any new player, and considering the requirement for a left-arm spinner, Nawaz was the best available choice for the side.”

On Abrar Ahmed’s availability, the team management is hopeful that Abrar will be available to the side for the third Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground, commencing from 3 January 2024.

What does he mean??

Why is there a specific requirement for a left arm spinner?

I'm guessing they need someone to turn it away from the right-hander.

Agha Salman and Sajid Khan are the available off-spinners.

Not too many options available in that 17-man squad anyway. It's been a disaster of a tour regardless of who they play.

Mohammad Nawaz in great form for his possible first FC/Red ball game of 2023 in December 2023

Noman is already 37. I think after this, his career will end. Probably, he will not get a chance again to play for Pakistan.

Good thing for him is that it happened in Australia and will get great healthcare. Thank God it didnt happen in Pakistan

Hard luck if he was being considered for a game, hoping for a speedy recovery

He should take good care and rest on this tour now

So they selected a guy who could not turn a single ball in India, even Aamir Sohail could not hide his disgust ie he is not even a club cricketer.

What's the point of bringing Hafeez as team director and Wahab as CS if all they will do is to keep selecting the same rubbish?

Imagine a Test team featuring Nawaz Faheem Agha and Jamal the "Scrap 4" , Australians will be laughing at us

They are being a bit optimistic if they are hoping that Nawaz will turn the ball.

Zafar Gohar could of been selected if they want a L A S.

Nawaz has not played red-ball cricket for over a year. Forget turning the ball, he will be holding on for dear life after one day's play

criteria to get selected in the Pakistan team is very simple these days, try to be as mediocre as possible and then you have a fair chance of being selected in Test cricket without playing any red ball cricket in years.

Now I am very hopeful that even i can debut for pakistan.

I dont know why PCB doesnt take these situations to try a new player someone who is hunger to get a chance, Nawaz has been horrible in white ball, he might be okay in red ball but he wont win you match

I rather they try a new spinner who is selected on merit and if he fails that is okay because atleast he was selected on merit

That’s fine, but let’s hear some names rather than “new spinner”.

Nawaz might be useless but so is everyone else in Pakistan.

Nawaz replacing Noman was a no-brainer but yes we do not have any specialist spinner who is doing wonders in domestics. I have seen Shahab Khan, he can be the one but he is still too raw and needs more performances to make his case strong for a selection.

The man has NOT played FC cricket for more than a YEAR now.

Is there no OTHER spinner in FC Cricket in Pakistan?

Or is this driven by whoever has a visa for the country!

Out of the ones that play regularly- Irfan is the best. He is in his late 30s but isn't terrible and could do a job.

And will last more than one day without clutching his leg, arm, head etc

I'm surprised no one has talked about Usama Mir. He has been with the team. Came back in the limelight after going through a good FC Season.

Has more control in his bowling now, is a leg spinner, is tall, gets more bounce and now has some experience playing in Australia too.

Moreover he's there in Australia. Surely he's a much better option than the likes of Nawaz, Salman and to an extend Sajid in Spin bowling.

Usama has improved for sure but he remains a bowler who gives at least 1 “hit me” ball per over.

He isn’t going to scare anyone in tests.

Your telling me their is not one actual spinner in domestic or youth level in all if Pakistan just within thr u19 level their is several and also from the emerging cup sqaud

The decision by Chief Selector Wahab Riaz to overlook domestic performers and opt for Mohammed Nawaz is hilarious. We all know how he has been performing for quite some time especially in ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

It was driven by visa and logistics. I read it somewhere. Maybe Usama Mir could have been another option but he also is not test quality, bowls a hit me ball every over or so, so they went with Nawaz thinking he could somehow bat in these condition if selected. 99% he won't be selected and they would go with 4 pacers and salman or sajid khan 3 pacers and salman. Salman will most likely retain spot over faheem as he at least could bat a bit in first test and also did okay with bowl

Cool. So name some names and justify why they should play or make their debut against Australia.

Test Cricket is completely different from limited overs Cricket. He can do better than all those I have named.

Hes not even a good FC spinner. The stats says it all

Maaz Sadaqat could also be a good option, he can bat in the middle order. Moreover, Iftimania was the top contender.

Mehran Mumtaz, mubashir khan, qasim akram , suifyan muqeem but i believe he is injured, arif yaqoob, anyone would do a better job, now tell me why should we persist with Nawaz

selecting this fruad again and again....and then we are saying why Pakistan is not producing quality spinners....

This is where planning comes into play

You announce 18-members but you have an eye on 25 - and ensure their visas are done and kept ready.

Especially when you know the importance of this tour and the logistical challenges involved in getting people there.

There are many spinners available in the domestic circuit. It's okay if nobody gets selected based on performances because this time Nawaz would be the last nail in the coffins of the management.

England have rehan and rashid
Australia have Lyons
India have ashwin and chahal
Afg have rasheed and mujeeb
And pakistan have nouman and nawaz

We are the laughing stock of the spinning world
Our spin replacements are either left out of the final 12 or left out of the final 11

Nawaz must have a strong political background to be disposed just like Imam and Fahim.

It is amazing how these guys find a spot in the team without any noticeable performances.
