THE Pakistan cricket team spent their downtime enjoying one of the Cairns region’s most visited hot spots.

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur said the team was very excited to experience what the Great Barrier Reef was all about.

They will head out to Moore Reef via Fitzroy Island with Sunlover Reef Cruises.

“We’ve got two days downtime, the guys have worked exceptionally hard,”
Arthur said.

Arthur added that none of the team had been to the Great Barrier Reef before.

“This is a team activity. The boys can’t wait to see what it’s all about,” Arthur said.

“Cairns is fantastic. We’re being very well looked after. It’s been really good for us.”

Big tour for a lot of players so better get used to the place. This is what international tours are all about. When people talk about flying players into the ground and then take them back after the match to define an international tour then they are missing something big.

I think boys do need some time off rather intensive practice. Hope they use it well.

They can do both - they are preparing for a Day/Night match.

Let them go to Kuranda in the morning and then practice under lights in the afternoon.

Oh absolutely agree with that. It's just that Australia can seem intimidating to this lot considered the abysmal history of their much more successful predecessors. So it's important to humanize the place.

Enjoy your time to the fullest, and then play your hearts out when it's time.

After that first catch in the slips goes down, I'm blaming this trip. :yk

This is good idea to have some fun before a tough tour start

Nawaz has very good personality also very good dress sense i hope Umar akmal get some tips from

him about wardrobe

I might cause offence with this comment. If so, I apologise in advance.
Convict could explain better than me the idea in Australian sport of "One percenters" - tiny details which help a team a tiny bit.

And this team is missing a huge one - swagger.

Pakistan used to intimidate upon arrival in England and Australia just by how they looked out of their kit. Sportsmen are young, athletic, highly paid men, and often dress and groom themselves as the celebrities they are.

Players like Imran Khan - and even Shoaib Akhtar - turned heads from the moment they landed just by their clothes, their haircuts, their self-confidence. The local players were often jealous and often felt inadequate beside them.

If you look at the 1982 and 1987 and 1992 tourists to England, there was hardly anybody who looked less sophisticated or worldly than their hosts. There was an intimidation factor.

Everybody on the England team up to 1982 knew that Pakistan was better plugged in to the establishment than they were - Pakistan boasted both a Cambridge University captain in Majid Khan and an Oxford University captain in Imran Khan.

Those days of swagger and self-confidence are clearly well and truly gone. Apart from Mohammad Nawaz and Babar Azam the rest of aren't appropriately dressed.

Pakistan used to compete really hard in Australia until 1999. As soon as they landed the Aussies always knew that they were in for a huge fight from the visitors. A fight that India or Sri Lanka could not give them. And the social equivalents of Shane Warne knew that Imran Khan was going to have more luck with the ladies than they were for the next month.

Appearances are important. Swagger intimidates opponents - who can forget Viv Richards and Imran Khan?

It strikes me that the PCB needs to start paying attention to the One Percenters. Pakistan don't even look like an elite sports team.

What's the point of Swagger if you can't win the tests.

I don't care if they look like Scooby Doo.

If they win the tests, that's all that matters.

Social life is not relevant, unless it affects their performance.

Very good post. Spot on. Pakistan also need to develop a nasty streak. Stop being so nice to the opposition......get angry!

How do they see the reef from a boat? Shouldn't they have scuba dived?

Anyone here who has been to the reef or has scuba dived comment?

Have scuba dived in Maldives and done snorkeling in Madagascar.

Imad wasim ?

I thought of this name as soon as swagger was mentioned by Junaids

Btw only a few guys are very poorly dressed e.g Rahat, Sami etc.

Rest of the guys are pretty graceful like Misbah, Azhar and Yasir

Isn't Wasim Bari supposed to be managing this side?

As this news article shows, the waters around Cairns currently contain tiny but lethal Irukandji jellyfish.

Not a season for swimming up there.

Wonder what advice the fish had for Sohail Khan

Swagger is a tool to intimidate and mentally disintegrate the opposition.

It's not just a pose. It's a legitimate means of bullying insecure opposition.

Lads getting in practice before fishing outside the off stump?

After a wonderful job you guys did in New Zealand, you thoroughly deserve this vacation, enjoy.
