[PICTURES] Poor decision? Was Fakhar Zaman out?

Did not Rashid Latif receive a ban for claiming a false catch? Poor sportsmanship from NZ.

Horrible decision. Soft signal is useless in these cases. The umpire cost Pakistan 20-25 runs with the way Fakhar was batting.

Daylight robbery by Kiwi ump.... it happened last tour too, when NZ begin losing they start getting umps help.

That was not out and the commentator (Scott Styris I think) was so illogical and bias. He was saying that such catches are taken twice a week in cricket (picked up from the ground) and its fine :s

Looks like it hit the ground to me. He only survived because of the soft signal.

Waqar is right, how can you soft signal out when you're like 50 metres away.

And he had a drop at the end which cost 4 and then kept Yamin on strike which cost another six...

Its bad decision. Fakhar would have made a difference of 15 runs at least.

200 was possible.

Awful decision by the 3rd umpire

I don't understand the point of the soft signal in such cases?!

I think you probably heard it wrong , what he meant was that these types of catches are being taken two three times a week and there’s no way an on field umpire can judge it from a distance hence this soft Signal factor should be taken out in this case and it shd be left to third umpire to decide from what he sees without a preconceived mind.

Nothing conclusive to over-rule the soft signal. So the screen flashes OUT.
^

I didn't see it myself, but the soft signal stuff always makes it tricky to changes things.

Before Fakhar was dismissed Pakistan were 101/2 after 13 overs.

No idea how they're supposed to get 200 when they actually started batting really well once he was dismissed. You scored 58 off the last 4 overs, you can't really do much better than that.

Looks like Bruce's palms, ball in hand, hit the ground while trying to complete that catch. Were his fingers under the ball? Nothing conclusive on the replays. The on-field umpire's decision stands. Fakhar falls for 46.

It was clearly not out but I will not blame the fielder, it happens so quickly he maybe didn’t knew it touched.

But the third umpire? What a joke. When he said « no conclusive evidence... » lol.
If this is not conclusive evidence then there never will be...

The soft signal was out. I think if Pakistan were the fielding team and the same thing happened we wouldn't be complaining. I have to accept it cos if the soft signal was out it's hard to overturn that. Although I think I may agree with Smith that they could just get rid of the soft signal altogether.

umpires gave a lot of calls, marginal or otherwise, against Pakistan and in NZ's favour.

No matter what the soft signal was, it looked out to me. Their was no conclusive evidence that he has not taken that cleanly, ball didn't bounce before coming into hands & one or two fingers looked beneath it while it was taken.

Hot spot to return following Ross Taylor's controversial dismissal against Pakistan

There should be fewer arguments following Ross Taylor's controversial dismissal against Pakistan, with hot spot returning for the big games against Australia and England.

Added cost is being given as the reason why hot spot was missing for the T20 matches against the West Indies and Pakistan, but it will be back for the opening Tri-Series T20 clash between Australia and New Zealand in Sydney on Saturday night.

Captain Sarfraz Ahmed jumped with joy as Pakistan's consecutive wins brought a brilliant end to their tour, with Taylor's dismissal in Mt Maunganui rated as crucial by the visitors.

Taylor promised Pakistan he had not hit the ball during a loss which saw the visitors usurp New Zealand as the No. 1 ranked T20 nation. Taylor shook his head with disapproval following his dismissal, when he was adjudged by the third umpire to have edged a Mohammad Amir delivery.

Taylor told Radio Sport's Martin Devlin he believed hot spot should always be on call.

"I think so, if the technology is there," said Taylor, who guessed it was a "funding issue".

"If it was there it might have saved me, or showed I hit it. I didn't feel anything."

A 39-run fifth-wicket stand between Tom Bruce (22 off 15 balls) and Taylor (25 off 11 balls) had given New Zealand late hope.

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur described Amir's over to Taylor as "pivotal" but believed Taylor was out.

"Yeah. There was certainly a (snicko) spike, you've got to say he probably did," Arthur said.

New Zealand coach Mike Hesson was more circumspect.

"The spike obviously occurred at the right time, but without hot spot it's difficult, and they rely on RTS (real-time snickometer)," he said.

"My personal view is that to overturn a decision I'm not a huge fan of only one bit of technology, but that's life."

A New Zealand Cricket spokesperson said in the agreement with Sky, hot spot was scrapped for the West Indies and Pakistan T20 games to save money.

The overall Decision Review System was introduced for T20 cricket last year. Authorities had previously said they wanted to avoid delays in games.

Following the Tri-Series, New Zealand plays five ODIs against England then tests at Eden Park and Hagley Oval.

^^ So they are making a big deal out of a decision that was rightly given out but don't care about the decision that was incorrectly given out?
