[PICTURES] The state of cricket stadiums in Pakistan

Northern part of Pakistan is beautiful and less populated. Stadia can be well constructed and maintained here. Also like Dharmasala stadium where we have a view of snow filled Himalayas in the background, Pak can construct 1 near a scenic spot. That will also help in improving Pak cricket image across the world. People should cherish to visit and play in such places.

Se goes for Nonu who hasn't even born yet but we still love him like anything.

Rafi stadium is inevitable. When it will be ready it will automocally become the best stadium in Indian subcontinent

I don't know how much I trust Pakistani contractors. It took more than a year for the roof at NSK to be renovated. Rafi Stadium is scheduled to open in 2021 but could easily be delayed 3-4 years. I'll believe it when I see it done. However so far the signs are looking good, work is still being done.

Latest update of Rafi Stadium.

I have no extensive knowledge of Pakistani stadiums but watching this game in Rawalpindi, the first need for improvement to me is the drainage system. Multiple days of play cannot be allowed to be abandoned due to a wet outfield. It is simply unacceptable. One other issue is of bad light. On Day 1 there were only 68 overs with play ended early because of poor light. How can you reasonably expect to get a result if you only get 70 overs a day even when it doesn't rain? People with more knowledge than me perhaps can tell me if this is just an uncommon thing if this the case every winter in Pindi.

The stadium needs some other renovations like seats but generally I like the look of it. It is compact, and has a quaint charm. Obviously, I'm not there firsthand but that's the impression I get.

Also, its probably about the right size for a Test Venue. Most people who watch this game, in Pakistan and around the world, will do so on Television. With the limited crowds coming to Test matches, a smaller stadium appears more 'full' and provides a richer atmosphere for the game and for the final product- Television crowds. Television viewers like to watch cricket where the ground seems full. The Kiwis have figured this out and host their Test Matches in small grounds and have moved away from bigger bowl stadiums like Eden Park.

Also, will the PCB forgo it's own stadium (NSK) and pay rent to use another in the same city. Especially one they're renovating and putting money into? I'm not so sure. I can see maybe the PSL franchise using it as the home stadium.

Board and Regions wanting each other to spend the cash resulting in stalemate and no improvement in most of the stadiums.

Imagine a beautiful stadium in Abbottabad with stunning background and now with opening of newly constructed six lane Hazara Highway, the travel time from Islamabad is less and hour ( some say its 30 minutes ) . Teams can stay at Islamabad and can travel to and from the stadium in Abbottabad, or stay there.

They can still use both stadiums, doesn't have to be one or the other.

Latest update of Rafi Stadium.

The builders are saying (in the comments) that they expect to complete it towards the end of 2020. Not too sure about that given the rate at which it's progressing.

To me, the solution is quite simple and something the ECB and CA follow. Easier said than done in Pakistan, however.

Firstly, PCB needs to look for sponsors for all major stadiums. Sell the naming rights for all of them. Brands are happy to shell out the cash for cricket because they do see a return on the investment. Why can't the Gaddafi stadium (seriously, it's still called that?) be called the Huawei Arena or the Ufone Stadium?

Second, these stadiums need to be turned into multi-purpose venues. Our bigger cities are running out of space for grounds and fields. Why can't the stadiums be utilized for concerts as well as football and hockey games when cricket is done with their season? Our musicians need big arenas for concerts and our football and hockey teams need quality facilities for their games. The Moin Khan stadium was used for the Junoon concert last year.

An initiative like this needs a lot of planning, strategizing and coordination. But if it is executed, the PCB will see success and higher revenues.

The worrying thing is that our major stadiums are in a state of disrepair and in need of investment, imagine what the lesser-known stadiums are like.

Stadiums and facilities will improve with time. Not a big issue at all considering they hardly hosted a game for like two decades. The biggest issue right now that Pak faces is that they don't have any player with star power and charisma who can pull crowd and make people flock to the stadiums. What is the point building 50k stadiums when you struggle to fill the smaller ones?

Afridi was the last guy with crowd pulling power.

UPDATE 🏏— second phase of renovation will start at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium after #PSL5 which includes marble tiles installation for sitting purpose in general enclosures. However no more chairs installation as per initial reports. Also imported roof like NSK will be installed

Im not keen on nsk type roof. Why cant they complete chairs before psl 5??? what will they do untill psl?

Afridi was the last guy with crowd pulling power.

Amir too is somewhat capable of that, Shaheen has the potential while Naseem will definitely be a star. You really needed someone of Afridi's stature playing now. I have all the respect in the world for Azhar Ali but I feel he needs to be a bit more expressive on field, a fearless swashbuckling captain sets the tone for the rest of the team and he is way to nice and formal on that front.

Seems like a nice media booth.

But people sitting on cemented seats? How can you watch 5 day games like that?

View attachment 97708

will be marble installation here but no seats. DISGRACEFUL

I've always thought of Pindi stadium as an ideal test stadium. Agree that there need to be seats all but that doesn't seem to be happening. The stadium does actually have a drainage system but it is very primitive and I hope it will be updated.

Disagree. Babar is already becoming into that kind of a player. Regardless of how you rate him, he is loved by the people in Pakistan. On day one of the Pindi test the crowd was probably chanting his name the most eventhough he didn't bat. He is growing in stature and popularity day by day. Amir too is popular and very much a crowd-puller.

I rate Babar pretty much considering he is doing great in all 3 formats currently. I just refuse to overrate him. Of course Pakistanis love him, but will they fill out the stadium on a working day just to see him play? With due respect to your sentiments, I doubt that. I think UK Pakistanis are more passionate in terms of presence on the ground. He may be the best player in the team but not the biggest star. Just like Afridi was the most popular in a team that had the likes of Inzi, Yousuf, Younis and Misbah. We can agree to disagree though.

I watched an ODI against England in 2005 at Pindi stadium , it was jam packed ( Imran Khan with his two sons was sitting next to me ) and facilities were fine. I bought the tickets online before I left from USA and there was no problem. My wife and toddler son was with us and had no problem.

As a Kid I used to go to Gaddafi ( I hate this name ) stadium with my father and uncles to watch test matches and still remember it used to be packed with 50K plus crowd. Stadium was in good shape . Capacity was reduced to, I think 35K after renovation years later.

When Mudassar scored his slowest ever century in test, stadium was full and I was there. All super starts from Pakistan and England had gone to play in Packer's in Australia but stadium was full even with Pakistan's B team.

IMO PCB should cut its losses and bulldoze both Rawalpindi and Faisalabad stadiums, and rebuild from scratch. Both those stadiums looks like they are from the stone age. Multan Stadium is fairly modern and could do with some renovations. NSK and GSL need extensive renovations.

The problem is that if PCB continues to do small incremental improvements, which is what they will most likely do, it will take 10-15 years before those two stadiums are even at the level of Multan cricket stadium. I can't see PCB making massive improvements in a few years time, it's just not their style. If they start from scratch, they have no choice but to build world class stadiums that are better than any stadium in Pakistan.

Sri lanka did that and it put them in severe debt. We have multan and the rafi stadium soon.
National stadium and gaddafi have their own charm and history. We dont need 3 tier monsters that will be empty most of the year.

Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad/Rawalpindi are all ready to go. All have PC Hotels, up to date stadiums and airports.

Hyderabad: Pearl Continental Hotel will be constructed, MOU signed. Hopefully this means cricket comes back to the Niaz stadium in 4-5 years if renovated, not before 2024. Airport closed to traffic since 2013.

Multan: PC hotel is almost complete, stadium undergoing light renovation that should be done by 2020. Airport operational.

Mirpur City: PC hotel is almost complete, Unfortunately there is no airport in Mirpur, and recent earthquake damaged the stadium and forced the 2XI Quaid-E-Azam Trophy matches to be moved.

Muzaffarad: Has a PC hotel and good stadium, the airport should reopen within a few months.

Peshawar: Arbab Niaz stadium renovation should be complete by 2021, and its close to a PC hotel. Airport operational.

Faisalabad: 4 Star Serena Hotel close by, Iqbal stadium would need renovation. Airport operational.

Quetta: 4 Star Serena Hotel, Bugti stadium would need an update. Airport operational.

Sialkot: No decent hotels, Jinnah Stadium needs renovation. Airport operational.

*All PC Hotels are 5 star hotels.

4 months ago that update

If the PSL goes as expected, this season will revolutionize PSL as well as stadiums.

4 months ago that update

Multan stadium is big one. With Multan stadium ready soon and Hyderabad in 2-3 years, having matches in December-January should not be an issue. Weather in southern Pakistan, even in Multan is generally better for cricket during peak winter.

Did Gaddafi fund this stadium like Faisal mosque in Islamabad was funded by Faisal!

No it was that crazy ZAB who gave the name after Ghaddafi came to Pakistan in 1972 to attend the Islamic conference, did not give a dime. This name does not make any sense at all. Even people from Libya won;t approve that.

Any latest updates about MULTAN CRICKET STADIUM?? The one posted earlier is about 4 months old. What other stadium will host PSL 5 apart from Qaddafi, National, Pindi, Multan??

Multan stadium will be ready for Psl 5. Psl will be hosted at 4 venues. Lahore, Karachi, Multan and Rawalpindi. For the next Psl in 2021 arbab niaz stadium will be ready and this will be double story stadium.

Heard from multiple sources that chairs are now being installed at pindi stadium for PSL 5. Can anyone confirm this news?

I think PCB is doing well renovating 5-6 stadiums as itnernational cricket is returning to Pakistan. We atleast have 5 stadiums fully functional to host matches.

Arbab niaz stadium funding updates

Rawalpindi stadium is being renovated again for PSL. Chairs are being installed.

Arbab Niaz Peshawer is being renovated and will be ready for PSL 6

Bughti Stadium is being renovated and will be ready for PSL 6

I hope for PSL 6 all teams play home and away. Add a seventh team in the same season like Hyderabad or Faisalabad and get their stadiums ready and we will have a great PSL with more players, games and revenue.

Compare the Boxing Day Test at Centurion:

And contrast:

images.jpeg

So why has Test matches been sparsely populated in Pakistan over the years again ?

Multan Stadium is a bit underrated and in my opinion could be the third option stadium behind Gadaffi stadium and NSK. In terms of crowd I would expect it to have a higher turn up than Karachi. Hopefully they work on the pitch, usually a very flat track.

Some lovely pics from Quetta from PCB

PESHAWAR, (APP – UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 5th Feb, 2020 ):Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Ehsan Mani Wednesday paid a surprise visit to Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium and inspected the ongoing reconstructing work to make it according to the international standard with all facilities costing Rs. 1.70billion.

Flanked by Director General Sports Asfandyar Khan Khattak, former Test cricketer Director Development Niamat Ullah Khan Marwat, AD Development Munir Abbas, Architect Sajjad Khan, Ehsan Mani said that after the completion of work at the Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium, it would help in bringing international cricket back to Peshawar including matches of HBL PSL-5 next year.

Ehsan Mani, who is on a two-day visit to Peshawar, was briefed by Director General Sports Asfandyar Khan Khattak before reaching at the new look of Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium. Ehsan Mani said that with the construction work Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium, it would accommodate 35000 spectators, having all facilities according to the ICC need.

PCB Chief said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is full of talent with the attaining international standard of the Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium, it would be key center for international cricket like it was in the past.

He said now with the bird-eye floodlight similarly like in Dubai Cricket Stadium in UAE at Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium would help Pakistan Cricket Board to use it as central venue alongside Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi for the Test, ODIs and Twenty20 Cricket.

He said Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium host many international Test and One-Day International matches and with the up-gradation and equipping it with facilities that has currently in the Dubai Cricket Stadium, the Peshawarites would see top players in action again.

He said the government of KP was very keen to involve the youth in healthy and productive activities and that was why initiative had taken to revamp Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium. He said Chief Minister Mahmood Khan was very keen to complete the 1000 grounds facilities in all across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and merged tribal areas for youth.

In his briefing DG Sports Asfandyar Khan Khattak said that after successful completion of more than 130 grounds across KP, 1000 grounds project was initiated by the government during a four-year plan and out of 1000 grounds 40 grounds would be constructed in the merged tribal districts.

He said normalcy has returned to the province after the long years of militancy and it is a right time to arrange sports activities for the youth to portray softer image of the province and involve them in productive activities.

He said on the special directives of the Chief Minister KP Mahmood Khan the Directorate of Sports KP started a number of activities to provide opportunities to the youth to exhibit their hidden talent and bring name to the province and the country at national and international levels.

The Stadium would be rehabilitated with a total cost of Rs. 1.70 billion but overall a total of Rs. 2,2 billion allocated by KP govt to provide enhanced sports activities to the upcoming players. DG Spots KP Asfandyar Khan said after the execution of 1000 ground project and Arbab Niaz Cricket Stadium KP would get a unique status in the rank of other provinces as far as modern day facilities.

He said, it would be the only Cricket Stadium, which is under one wall accommodation for 200 players as of a level of 4-Star accommodation, swimming pool, modern day electronic gymnasium, indoor net practice, electronic pitches and an academy of level of National Cricket Academy Lahore.

He said, the facilities included improvement of ground, new pavilion, changing rooms, enhancing seating capacity from 1400 to 35000 spectators with chair, additional floor will be constructed on the stairs, flood-light, dining halls, conference halls, swimming pool, office-rooms wash rooms blocks, media galleries, VIP stands, generators for floodlit, two gymnasium, indoor practice pitches, and digital monitoring systems.

Earlier, Chairman PCB along DG Sports, Test cricketer Kabir Khan, Niamat Ullah Marwat, Munir Abbas and Sajjad Khan have a detail round of the under construction areas. PCB Chief lauded KP govt for showing commitment and dedication toward promoting healthy sports activities by involving maximum youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

A country the size of Pakistan should have a 80k capacity stadium. Atleast one at the minimum. That money PCB made pre 2009 all wasted. Pretty pathetic tbh.

CRICKET: HYDERABAD, NOT IN THEIR LEAGUE
5e3638e56a427.jpg
5e3638f8bcd4b.jpg

It’s that time of year: the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is around the corner. Cricket lovers are happy because, for the first time, all fixtures of the fifth edition of the league will be staged in Pakistan.

Things have been looking up for international cricket here as well. Sri Lanka arrived in Pakistan in December 2019 to play a two-Test series to end the 10-year-old drought of international cricket on our soil. Then Bangladesh agreed to play a series.

However, Hyderabad’s cricket fans’ agonising wait to see international cricket returning to the only international Test stadium in Sindh after Karachi –– Niaz Stadium –– remains unrealised for want of the required infrastructural development at this ground.

Established by a former commissioner Niaz Ahmed in 1959, Niaz Stadium will not be hosting a single PSL fixture, despite an earlier announcement by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah that it would also host matches. The CM had met with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani last year before announcing that PSL 2020 matches would also be staged at Niaz Stadium Hyderabad in addition to the National Stadium Karachi (NSK).

The CM had even ordered Divisional Commissioner Hyderabad Mohammad Abbas Baloch on March 26, 2019 to initiate necessary measures for the repair and maintenance of Niaz Stadium in order to develop it into a national-level arena where PSL cricket events could be played in 2020.

As the excitement for Pakistan Super League rises to a fever pitch, with its matches to take place at most of the cricket centres of the country, Hyderabad and its historic Niaz Stadium are once again overlooked

Sindh is Pakistan’s second largest province and it has only two international cricket stadiums –- NSK and Niaz Stadium –- where the Pakistan cricket team has set historic records. Given its importance, the PCB secured the ground’s administrative control in July 2007 under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the local municipal committee, which is its custodian. The ground remained with it for 11 years until the municipal committee revoked the MoU arbitrarily on April 2, 2018 and seized control of it.

The MoU revocation was understandable only to some extent. The local municipal leadership had the grievance that, while the ground remained with the PCB for 11 long years, the board didn’t honour its commitments made in the MoU, leading to its revocation. The PCB, meanwhile, had its own axe to grind as it explained that the board is not in a position to make heavy investment at any centre due to its own weak financial position.

Pakistan had to pay a heavy price for the deadly terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009. The country was stripped of the 2011 World Cup hosting rights. Pakistan played Tests and ODI series at neutral venues for the next decade and, during this period, the PCB avoided investing in cricket infrastructure at home.

The PCB’s flagship project of PSL then rekindled hopes of reopening the doors of international cricket in Pakistan. International cricket celebrities agreed to play matches in Lahore and Karachi. Now all PSL contests are to be staged in Pakistan, causing greater excitement among cricket lovers. It was after NSK hosted the PSL 2018 final that the Sindh CM hinted at holding more PSL matches in Karachi and Hyderabad. Then came 2019 when another encouraging announcement from the Sindh government was made about the holding of PSL matches in 2020. And yet, Hyderabad’s cricket isolation hasn’t ended.

“Had the ground been with PCB it would have been doing something for it in view of the successful PSL event,” the former Regional Cricket Association (RCA) Hyderabad president, Mir Haider Ali Talpur says. “Did the Qasimabad municipal committee make any noteworthy development at the ground? The answer is an emphatic ‘no’. While it was with the PCB the ground [at least] hosted first class matches regularly. Players such as Salman Butt and Kamran Akmal enjoyed high-scoring matches here,” he says.

He adds that everyone knew that since Pakistan was hosting its home series on neutral venues abroad, the board hadn’t maintained even NSK and Lahore’s Gaddafi stadiums due to the serious financial crunch, and that had only changed when the PSL came here. “It’s time the Sindh government should approach the PCB seriously and hand over the ground to it if it is to be developed as desired,” he says, regretting that Niaz Stadium’s MoU was revoked at a time when chances of holding matches here had improved.

Meanwhile, the CM’s directives issued last year for repair of Niaz Stadium seem not have reached anyone at the ground. The Hyderabad DC in Sept 2019 put up a note for the CM’s principal secretary mentioning that the sports department had not undertaken any major repair work at Niaz Stadium after the CM’s directives. “The ground is under the administrative control of the municipal committee Qasimabad, which is not in a position to maintain an international ground,” the commissioner’s note for CM read.

Since the local municipal council revoked its MoU with the PCB, the board is in no hurry either to do anything for Niaz Stadium, although the DC has almost regularly been pursuing the matter with the PCB. For its part, the PCB has its hands full with its home series and putting together the fifth PSL.

“We are told that the PCB will be sending its representative to visit the stadium,” says Commissioner Abbas Baloch while referring to his correspondence with the PCB. “The municipal council cannot organise international cricket matches as it is not in its mandate, therefore the PCB will have to come forward to handle the situation and we will help the PCB in this regard.”

The PCB was also approached by the Sindh sports department. But the way the sports department approached the PCB tells us a lot about the lack of professionalism involved. A deputy secretary of the department Mohammad Zia Abbas addressed a letter to the PCB chairman directly on March 21, 2019, stating the “CM Sindh has been pleased to desire that Niaz Stadium Hyderabad may be readied for international matches.” The language of the letter suggests that the PCB was under an obligation to do this. The bureaucrat who penned the letter didn’t even know if the PCB was headquartered in Lahore or Islamabad. He also didn’t know that, after the revocation of the MoU, Niaz Stadium is not the PCB’s liability and that the local municipal administration is squarely responsible to ensure its upkeep.

PCB official Lt Col (rtd) Ashfaq Ahmed, on April 3, 2019 simply responded to the March 21 communication by mentioning that the “stadium which was forcefully taken over by the municipal committee on April 2, 2018 is, therefore, no longer under PCB’s control. The Sindh government may undertake necessary renovation and upgradation of the stadium being under its administrative control.”

Col Ashfaq Ahmed tells Eos over the phone from Lahore that he had briefed the PCB chairman about his conversations and correspondence with the divisional commissioner regarding the stadium. “The PCB chairman has asked me to visit the ground personally before the board takes any decision. I will soon be visiting Hyderabad,” he says. He, however, hasn’t visited the stadium since then.

Niaz Stadium was the ground where the current Prime Minister and former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan played several matches in front of a packed-to-capacity crowd. He seemed to have a somewhat personal attachment to it too. When he started his political career, he had walked up to the stadium from the hotel he was staying at across the road from it. The ground at the time was being used for a wedding ceremony of an influential family. He inspected the outfield and regretted how a quality stadium had being destroyed.

Still, everything is not lost. It is apparent that the Sindh government realises it need to hand over the stadium to the PCB. Cricket lovers here also expect PM Khan to put his foot down to save the historic Niaz Stadium and make sure that the PCB undertakes serious efforts in not only agreeing to get back control of the ground from the municipal administration but also upgrade it in line with its past commitments.

Lush green outfield at National Stadium Karachi looks astonishing

Karachi: The fifth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is just around the corner and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is making sure to make this edition bigger and better with bringing it back completely at home.

Meanwhile, the outfield at the National Stadium Karachi (NSK) has been made of top-class. The light and dark green theme make NSK look quite astonishing. The groundsmen have worked really hard to make this ground look alike the one in Europe, Australia, England or South Africa.

According to NSK’s chief curator Riaz Ahmed, they have been directed to make this ground look different. They have worked really hard to complete the outfield work in the stadium.

“We have been working to make this lush green outfield for days now. These zebra lines look is hard to maintain. We have done this with accurate calculations,” he said.

It must be noted here that four franchises including Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United will start reaching Karachi by February 15. Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans will come after playing their matches against Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

The mega event will commence from February 20 with an opening ceremony at National Stadium followed by a one-off contest between reigning champion Quetta Gladiators and two-time PSL champion Islamabad United.

Exactly for the amount of cricket that we play at home at the moment these upgrades are just fine. As more cricket is played in Pakistan again the facilities will get better. People need to have patience, these stadiums literally did not see proper use for a decade.

Wasim Khan on PSL stadiums:

“We want to make the game accessible to fans all over the country so they can watch their heroes in action and this edition is going to be a catalyst for it.

“By next year, we want to be in a position to add a couple of more venues. We are looking to develop more and more venues which provides us an opportunity to take the game around the country.

“We are looking at Peshawar, Multan, Faisalabad, which hosted the National T20 Cup and needs a little upgradation after which it can be an international venue, and Hyderabad, for which we are working with Sindh government for it upgradation.”

The HBL PSL has played a vital role in the complete resumption of international cricket in the country. After eight HBL PSL matches in Karachi last year, Sri Lanka toured Karachi for a three-match ODI series in September and returned for the second of the two-match Test series in the metropolitan city in December.

Over the past few months, Rawalpindi’s Pindi Cricket Stadium has also been included in the roaster of venues which have hosted international cricket in the recent years and it will host eight matches.

KARACHI: Senior Sindh government officials in a meeting on Thursday said security arrangements for the Pakistan Super League’s inaugural matches are fully in place while the beautification of the city and the National Stadium is under process.

Sindh Chief Secretary Mumtaz Ali Shah presided over the meeting at his office that was convened to discuss and finalise the arrangements for the matches of PSL-5 scheduled to begin in Karachi on Feb 20.

Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani informed the meeting that he was in constant touch with the police, paramilitary Rangers and Pakistan Army as all security arrangements had been finalised while the city and the national stadium were being beautified.

The meeting discussed security and traffic plans, beautification of the city and other arrangements.

“It is a matter of great honour that the inaugural match of the PSL-5 is being played in Karachi,” Mumtaz Shah said, adding, the provincial government had always extended full cooperation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as it had made excellent arrangements in the previous PSL tournament that the PCB had praised.

“This time again we will decorate the city in a befitting manner,” the chief Secretary said, asking officers of the city administration, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, district municipalities, cantonment boards and other concerned agencies to initiate beautification arrangements under the supervision of the city commissioner.

“Presence of officers and staff of K-Electric, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and Sindh Solid Waste Management Authority should also be ensured in the scheme,” he said.

The PCB officials said the success of PSL without the help of Sindh government would have not been possible. “This time the number of foreign players and officials is much greater than before as officials of the International Cricket Council, Bangladesh and South Africa cricket boards are coming here as well,” said a senior PCB official.

The PCB officials said players had already started arriving, adding, in the view of the event of such huge importance, a large number of cricket lovers are expected to turn out and fill in the stadium.

Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon informed the meeting that in addition to traffic and parking plans, the security plan of international standard had been devised for the PSL-5.

Sindh home secretary, PCB officials, concerned deputy commissioners, representatives of the Sindh Rangers, officials of civic bodies and other officials attended the meeting.

Will PCB be ready to pay to host matches in Bahria town stadium when they already have a stadium in Karachi

Will PCB be ready to pay to host matches in Bahria town stadium when they already have a stadium in Karachi

Advantage of hosting at that stadium includes larger hosting capacity, a new state of the art stadium. Disadvantages include the distance from the city (Bahria town is quite far from Karachi), and possible fees PCB might end up having to pay.

If Bahria town charges very little fee, PCB might go for it. I can't see PCB moving to that stadium fully as they will lose leverage over Bahria town, but best case they might start playing some of their games there. At best they will only play LOI there, can't see them hosting tests there.

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th Feb, 2020 ) :Sindh government has decided to carry out extension of historic cricket venue Niaz Stadium in consultation with Pakistan Cricket Board.

The Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah contacted with high ups of Pakistan Cricket board to seek consultation so that lost glory of the historic stadium could be restored at the earliest.

This was informed by the Commissioner Hyderabad Muhammad Abbas Baloch while talking to officers of concerned departments during his visit to Niaz Stadium here on Monday.

He said that provincial government fully committed to expand sitting capacity of the stadium with repair and renovation of stands so that the venue could host the international T-20, ODI and Test matches as well as the matches of Pakistan Super League.
