[PICTURES] Vaibhav Suryavanshi: The youngest cricketer ever to be chosen to play in the IPL

India’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making headlines across formats. In April 2025, he smashed the fastest IPL hundred by an Indian, and now in July 2025, he has recorded the fastest known century in Youth ODIs. Suryavanshi reached his U-19 hundred in just 52 balls, breaking the previous record held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who took 53 balls. His incredible form and fearless approach have stunned fans and experts alike. With two major records to his name already, Vaibhav is proving to be a generational talent.

He struggled against bouncers.let him learn for an year .we need him but not immediately.
Yeah needs some first class experience. Will also give him some time away from the madding crowds to get a grip on his new reality.

Need to play minimum 2 first class season before thinking about to play for national team.

He is more like LOI player and I don't see he is playing for india atleast for 2 year from now.

Whenever he will selected, most likely play against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh or Afghanistan because most of seniors players will takes the rest from that series.

:kp

He needs good role models and not hopefully not turn out to be another prithvi shaw

You tell us mate given your interest in Vaibhavs perpetually 14....
Do you have anything to say about what is happening today or do you want to go back and talk about stuff 15-20 years ago just so that nobody calls this stuff out???

Try to live in present brother

I am not trolling... You can watch the interview he gave few years back where he said himself that he is 14... and he is still 14... Using Anti-aging serum I guess...

He is an age cheat for sure, much like Naseem Shah, but he cannot be older than 18-19 and he is still exceptionally talented for his age.

He should be a huge assist for India in white ball cricket for years to come.

Ppers especially who vie for hacks in pak t20 must learn who can be an asset or not.blind slogging with out much sense will never get u anywhere apart from 33/9.Any team should have both sets or batsmen of batsmes with different gears instead of hacks/ftbs.Suryavanshi bats quickly but he is not a slogger.

This is where you learn the art of building an innings while attacking for long period. You get a lot of crease time. YOu develop muscle memory. you develop judgement, you develop patience. I am glad he is not typecasted as T20 player.

India will never rush to get him in & so Suryavanshi has lots of time on his side to develop into an all-format player. Plus the fact that we don’t need another T20 opener on the bench :)

Seemed at extreme ease throughout the inning. Batted calmly, yet the SR remained that insane. So far the kid has left a strong impression in every country he has visited.

Some highlights of the inning. Just the number of views in a few hours shows the interest this kid is generating in U19 Cricket.

Wow!! He is playing normal cricketing shots. There is no ugly slogs or swipe or anything of that sort.

Kinda unfair to have him play against a very inexperienced Aussie lineup. I mean - I get it he is playing age appropriate cricket, but he already has so much exposure playing against international level players - I would have him play only at India A level. It is like, Sachin debuting against Waqar, Wasim & then hypothetically going back to play in the U-19 team 😜

i doubt he is Under 19

Suryavanshi going at this rate will force gill to be crucified .better not to push gill as captian.

Good lord, what a ridiculous talent. Certainly looking like India will continue to widen the gap in T20's with rest of the world. Just seems like an unstoppable factory at this point churning out these insane hitters.

Saw the thread, saw he made 144, i though whats the big deal. 297 from team India, this guy scores 144 that to against UAE. ok....

That i notice its a t20 match.

India is producing unreal batting talent. 144 off only 42 deliveries.

Since he bats exactly the same way in all formats he can be considered as Sehwag type. Slightly more aggressive version of Jaiswal in T20. Priyansh Arya is another guy who is in similar mould.

Hopefully doesn’t peak so early or even if he does , continuously improves his game..

Age is on his side. He has atleast 6 or 7 years where he can affod to be inconsistent. He should never lose his fearless approach for whatever reason.

No issue with inconsistency, issue is with what attitude he develops- likes of Shaw, Kishan, Chand were terrible..
Shaw had technical holes. It is not just attitude. Kishan's issue is also lack of off side game. Chand never took his game to next level. But on the flip side less hyped players during under-19 world cup have made it big. Example Abhishek sharma, Arshdeep singh, Washington sundar. They never had any hype. All those who made it big worked very hard to get where they are.

Exactly… discipline beats talent -hype consistently with notable exceptions: Sachin, Virat, Rohit(needed so many chances)

I have seen very little of him but he has that wunderkind teenager feel about him. Feels like he will have a long and fruitful career for India.

Has there been any theories as to why this guy is so good at such a young age?
They did a trajectory analysis of his batswing. He imparts tremendous energy at the time of his follow through with his wrists flick. He generates tremendous bat speed. I am curious to see his bat speed. That bat swing is a full circle like Abhishek. But if you don't pick up the length you can't play like him or Abhishek. There is thsi another kid PriyansH Arya who is very much in the mould of ABhishek, Vaibhav. Made a blistering list A 100 against Australian A side

He’s definitely talented no doubt. But let’s give it time and see how he continues to do. With the fans as fickle as they are, knives will be out when he fails for 3-4 games. “He’s been found out”, “he’s no good”, “it was all a fluke”. 😊

He will need to be grounded, disciplined, hard working to continue to work on his weaknesses as they are discovered, and choose the right mentors so he can do well in the long term. We have seen what hype does to precocious talent - case in point Manjrekar, Kambli, Umar Akmal, Prithvi Shaw among others.

Since I have been watching cricket I haven't been as excited to see how a career develops.

This kid has already played at a high standard in IPL and dominated. No other hyped youngster achieved so much at such an age. Two centuries in men's cricket at 14 years old is unheard of.

He obviously has a tremendous hand-eye coordination, a stable base, and an amazing bat swing. And yes, he’s so exciting to watch. But international cricket is so unforgiving. He will be analyzed to death, every perceived weakness uncovered, all sorts of bowling will be unleashed to find his weak points. It will be very interesting to see how he adapts to various surfaces, bowling attacks, and international pressures. Only then we’ll know if he’s the real deal. In the meantime, we’ll settle with “he’s extremely talented”.

He should be allowed to fail and rediscover for another 6 or 7 years. He has a massive head start.

One thing is sure . Left handers are going to rule for India. Most teams have no clue how to bowl to lefties. Abhishek, Vaibhav, Priyansh, Tilak Varma, Jaiswal, Sai Sudarshan..

If he is still growing in height maybe this can affect his game as his body changes proportion

Picking the length is the greatest strength of all great batsmen. From Sachin, Lara to Jaiswal. As long as he doesn't lose that his hands and feet will guide him.

If he is genuinely 14 then he is surely getting to add a few inches in his height in the coming years. I don't think it would affect his batting though. He will adjust.

He must work on his defense and keep getting better there. All good to great players had good defense. Especially if he wants to play the highest level of cricket - and by that I mean Test cricket. He will score a lot of runs if he has that down.

He already played 6 youth tests

6 matches 331 runs 33.10 average 2 centuries 1 fifty 136.77 strike rate in Tests.

I meant men's cricket. An attack of Cummins, Hazelwood, Boland, and Starc in Australia or outside the subcontinent will be a wholly different experience for him than Youth Tests. Same goes for other good attacks in their respective dens.

If anything he will have better reflexes than Rohit sharma against them. Shardul Thakur and Sundar hardly had any batting credentials when they added 100 at the Gabba against that attack. He will give chances even against ordinary attacks. That is the way he plays. He might blow away gun attack at the same time. He is an X factor player. Over coaching him will stifle him.

16 off 8 with 2 fours and a six. good start to inn by Vaibhav S. as India face Pak A in Rising Asia Cup

extremely talented but I find it difficult to believe he’s 14. I have seen Hasan raza who made his test debut at 15 ( on paper) and he looked just a kid. Vaibhav looks well into his teens more like 17/18

I remember babar at 15 in 2010 u19 wc. He looked a super young kid too

His image is available online since he was 12 as he made debut. At the most 16. Not more than that He still has baby face.

I watched him in youth tests in Australia. He was technically very sound. Although he played tests much like T20 none of them was hacking. Played proper cricket shots ALso great temperament.
