This 23-year-old karate kid, looking fast bolwer has had an incredible start to his career. These are his World Cup stats so far:

7 matches
18 wickets
bowling average: 19.38
strike rate: 18.16
economy: 6.40

And here are his careers stats so far:

He is the third-highest wicket-taker so far this World Cup and looks the real deal. Great pace, wonderful aggression, and flare. He's so aggressive that he may have given Aiden Markram tinnitus.

he is one of the quickest bowler in this world cup and one thing that inspired me the most he can bat quite effectively down the order

Coetzee has been a great find.

He made history today. Most wickets by a South African in a single ODI World Cup (18 wickets).

South Africa would love to see Coetzee bowling along with Rabada, Nortje, and Ngidi in the next t20 world cup where the pitches have extra bounce and pace and support the fast bowlers a great deal. What a time for Coetzee to step up and show his skills with the balls. Handy batsman as well.

8 consecutive overs bowling consistent 145 kph , touching 150 and bowling short stuff and all in a World Cup semifinal.

Ridiculous athlete with a tremendous heart.

You've won the hearts of all those who have watched

Unbelievable effort

Top-class bowling from him throughout the tournament.

Great long-term prospect for South Africa and not a choker either.

Future star was born in this World Cup. Successor of Donald and Steyn.

High quality strike bowler that will be performing for many years. Really looking forward to see him in test cricket.

South Africans have an amazing 90 mph plus fast bowling legacy

Donald, Steyn, Morkel, Nortje and now Coetzee

“The Test series against India will be my toughest challenge in the longest format. I want to test myself against the best. Virat Kohli and Rohit are big players,” Coetzee told RevSportz.

“I am a competitor and want to be tested at the highest level. But for them, I don’t think it will be anything new. They are class batters. I will be a great learning experience for me,” he added.

Gerald Coetzee admires Dale Steyn since childhood.

“My cricketing hero was Dale Steyn. I met him when I was going through a rough patch in red-ball cricket. He was very helpful and we had coffee together. I share a good relationship with him and hopefully I play under him in the future.”

Love the energy and heart the guy brings. But knowing he plays for South Africa, he'll probably crumble in a high stakes game. Hate how consistent South Africa is at crumbling under pressure in LOIs atleast. SA playing knockouts is like Pak-India wc games. Inevitables heartbreaks.

Good spell from Gerald Coetzee. In his debut for the Mumbai Indians, he returns figures of 2/27 off 4 overs at an economy rate of 6.8 against Gujarat Titans.

Gerald Coetzee’s celebration reminds me of Dale Steyn

Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of test series against West Indies due to side strain injury.

Migael Pretorius has replaced him in the squad.

GERALD 'THE KARATE KID' COETZEE FIT AND FIRING AGAIN

The Joburg Super Kings will be smiling from ear-to-ear after ace fast bowler Gerald Coetzee returned to action yesterday.

The paceman completed his entire four-over spell whilst claiming 2/37 for the Titans against the Knights at Centurion in the CSA T20 Challenge.

Coetzee missed the entire Betway SA20 Season 2 due to pelvic inflammation sustained in the first Test against India at Centurion last year.

The 24-year-old recovered from that injury to play for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, where he claimed 13 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 26.23 back in April.

He returned to international cricket by playing a couple of T20I’s for the Proteas against the West Indies in the build-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup but saw no gametime in the tournament due to Pretoria Capitals’ Anrich Nortje returning to spearhead the attack.

Unfortunately, Coetzee was struck down by injury again whilst playing for Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (MLC) in July.

Coetzee suffered a low-grade left side strain in Texas Super Kings’ tournament opener.

He was subsequently not only ruled out of MLC, but also the Proteas’ two-match Test series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.

Cricket SA has since placed Coetzee on a strength and rehabilitation programme which saw him not considered for the recent white-ball tour to the UAE, where the Proteas faced Afghanistan and Ireland, and the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.

However, it seems now that “The Karate Kid” is finally fit and firing and raring to go ahead of the home summer.

COETZEE RULED OUT OF SECOND TEST AGAINST SRI LANKA AND PAKISTAN TOUR

Proteas Men’s fast bowler Gerald Coetzee has been ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka and the upcoming all-format tour against Pakistan due to a groin injury.

The 24-year-old experienced discomfort while bowling on day four of the first Test at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium in Durban on Saturday. Results of the scan revealed a right groin muscle strain. His recovery period is estimated to be between four to six weeks.

Uncapped DP World Lions fast bowler Kwena Maphaka has been added to the squad for the second Test, which will get underway at Dafabet St George’s Park in Gqeberha from 05 - 09 December.

We need all the help we can get

Big hearted bowler with good energy through crease and bounce.

If SA can get him fit he is an all format star in making

Bad news for Pakistan Coetzee is still inconsistent in red ball cricket now they will play Ngidi who feasts on batting line up like Pakistan
Coetzee is pretty good. He has good pace and can extract some serious bounce from the surface, especially on this wickets.

Ngidi is also out injured till January.

Good that Ngidi is injured I was really concerned the most about him tall accurate bowler is usually the Achilles heel for Pakistan on SENA tours I think they will go for Burger now who is also decent
