[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Haris Rauf at Melbourne Stars - Performance Watch

Steyn returns as Rauf rubbed out by Stars

Dale Steyn is set to make his long-awaited KFC BBL debut after the South African was named in the Melbourne Stars squad for Friday night's clash with the Adelaide Strikers.

Pakistan pace sensation Haris Rauf has been axed for Steyn's return after regaining fitness from a side strain he arrived with having injured himself playing in South Africa's domestic T20 competition.

Rauf, who lit up the BBL with his rags-to-riches tale having joined the Stars at the last minute from Tasmanian Premier Cricket club Glenorchy, has been dropped despite wearing the BKT Golden Cap as the competition's leading wicket-taker.

In his two games as Steyn's replacement, Rauf took seven wickets, including a five-fer against the Hobart Hurricanes in Moe, and conceded just 5.87 runs per over.

So will he still be able to play for Melbourne Stars in other games or is this it?

He's still with the squad so he may get more chances.

Not true. The English Pat Brown has already joined the squad, he will replace Steyn when Steyn goes on international duty. Haris Rauf will return to the Tasmanian Premier League.

Buddy they ain’t keeping pat brown over rauf he ain’t going nowhere maxwell already said he’s staying

Then makes no sense why Steyn is playing today over Rauf. Surely you cant be dropped after taking a fifer.

Can't keep Steyn out the whole season if Rauf continued to bowl well, would be too much of an insult to too big a name. And if he bowls poorly Rauf can always come back in

So they droped him and learnt a lesson, Haris is a beast bowler in T20 cricket, it is very very difficult to hit big on 148kph yorkers on toes :D

He’s still with the squad which is great too see. This is a picture from the game last night. I guess they are keeping him if steyn leaves they will just take him instead of pat brown. Or maybe he’s their coaching their other fast bowlers and teaching them some skills regardless great too see the confidence shown by Melbourne stars towards him still keeping him with the team very commendable.

I guess Steyn was Melbourne Star’s marquee signing, so it would have been embarrassing if they didn’t use him.

Still, Rauf can gain valuable experience from Steyn during training.

Back in the squad.

Haris Rauf will be bowling against Sydney Thunders tonight, hope Pakistani selectors are watching his performances and will consider this while selecting World Cup squad.
Match will start 15:40 Sydney time (08:40 Pak time) :)

From the streets to club cricket in Australia to bowling in tandem with dale steyn. Stuff of dreams.

Haris Rauf in the playing XI - his side is bowling

Wicket for Rauf

Haris Rauf to Ferguson, out Caught by Zampa!! Ferguson c Zampa b Haris Rauf 19(22) [4s-2]

There is no DRS in BBL? - Two plumb LBWs not given nor taken up by stars for reviews

Should've had his 2nd wicket.

Really hope that he's selected into the Pakistan LOs team.

Best T20 pacer Pakistan has right now. No excuses not to play him, not at all. If I'm making a T20 line up for the world cup. He'll be the 1st bowler on the sheet

Rauf ends with 3 wickets in 4 overs, conceding 24 runs

He’s very very good yes I like him as well. But first bowler on the sheet with zero international experience that’s too early to say. Reason being the Aussie batsman in the big bash league of are really poor quality and I’ve watched the big bash for very long. Most of these guys are just show offs and wannabe cris lynns but they all are very below average players except for a handful. So internationally it’s a total different ball game so I would Play him in a t20 series before making him play the World Cup.

The batsmen might be low quality but Rauf has serious skill.
He is a very good new ball bowler as well.
He should be playing Odi cricket soon.
Just needs to use his slower delivery a little more when the batsmen are swinging hard.
Proper white ball bowler.

True he needs to use that slower ball more plus should have had 4 the umpires are absolutely gully level as well in the big bash another plumb Lbw not given

Where do Pakistani players find their celebrations from? Is that a throat slit? Even if it is not, it just looks inappropriate.

Don't take limelight away from your bowling mate!

Very cringe celebration.

Wasn’t at his best today, but with that pace coupled with constantly attacking the stumps he’ll always be amongst the wickets in this format.

Anyone remember this from Wahab?

Wahabs was pure cringe cause he’s a trash bowler but this is ridiculous Australians are not liking it at all I think maxi had to tell him to stop doing it. He still thinks he’s playing in the streets of pindi mate millions are watching you now you are world class cut tha stupid celebration out. Though on a side note it just means another one down but it doesn’t look good on a cricket field

He took 3 wickets for only 24 runs and 1 or 2 of his appeals were not given despite them being out

So if this is not his best, what is?

He should have taken a 6fer again and gotten a hatrick and bowled out the team in the first 3 balls of the bowler that would have been his best

Pakistani culture. People are like that on the streets of Pakistan. Hopefully the Aussies can tell him that isn't cool.

He was amazing (even though I support Thunder). In regards to batsman being not great in the BBL they are better than what you get in PSL and players have been picked based on their performance. He is getting invaluable experience playing alongside Steyn (outbowlimg him today) and the experience in Australia so to me a shoe in for T20 WC in Australia

None of our bowlers in 90s or 2000s had stupid celebrations. Their celebration was a joy to watch. I feel it’s simple lack of education. PcB is doing a poor job at this. Remember Wahab was told by team management to stop the celebration. Hassan ali and imad wanabe ronado are other examples

It's 2020. You're thinking of a different generation.

If you’d actually watched the game you would have known that he conceded a lot of byes, a couple of which went to the boundary because of a leg stump-ish line of attack- largely due to collapsing whilst striving for that extra pace. It was clear he wasn’t in the best of rhythm.

That is such dumb celebration. What is he slighting throats for? Why is he making crosses? Why is he so angry? Just enjoy the succes with a big smile. No need to invent dumb celebrations.

Fair enough.

Some random, scattergun thoughts after watching Haris today:

It's great to see him do well in the BBL. If he can slightly tighten up his line he can really go places. He comes across as someone who has pace but doesn't have consistent rhythm. Once he establishes that rhythm, he will be a must-pick for the Pakistan ODI side.

Secondly, it seems that he prefers the old ball (Happy to be corrected on this). Thus he's competing with Wahab, Hasan and Hasnain for a spot in T20 team. I would prefer him at this point, along with Hasnain as factors on the last 12 overs of a T20 innings. Amir and Amad Butt open the bowling. At this time I would restrict him to the T20 team and gave Waqar work on the boy's rhythm.

Keeping Haris and Hasnain in T20s would also mean that we keep SSA and Naseem Shah away from T20s.

Pakistan Alhamdulillah right now have a wealth of options for each format. It's imperative that Misbah rotates his quick intelligently. Keep Haris to T20s and Naseem to tests only would really help that.

SSA and Hasan can also play ODIs

He balls with the new ball as well and gets good out swing as he showed in the Pakistan Cup 2019 representing Balochistan and played an important role in taking them to the finals. However considering the other options Melbourne Stars have in their team, Haris looks to be the best option for the older ball with his ability to reverse the ball and ball yorkers.

I agree that he needs to work on his rythm.

Also did feel for the Nepalese fans who had come to see Sandeep Limmichane

Looks awesome, look forward to seeing him in the PSL (and intl cricket soon after).

That celebration has got to go though - have some grace, man.
These celebrations are another perk of growing up in the Instagram / TikTok era... :(

Thanks, that's interesting. If he can effectively open the bowling in international T20 alongside Amir, it could hopefully mean doing away with Imad Wasim opening the bowling with his darts

I believe that this is a stupid approach. You simply cannot expect that Rauf would get 6 and a hattrick. You are asking for too much.

I believe he had a great game, he took 3 wickets with extreme precision, including the wicket of the dangerman Callum Ferguson. He was also quick and hostile, but he did have some bad luck in his final over, such as the fielder overrunning the ball, resulting in a 4 and the fact that Hinchcliffe's throw was poor, causing 2 byes.

He has the capability to make it, but all he has to do is just calm down with the celebration; it was negatively received in Australia.

I think he was being sarcastic...

Even then, he still believes that Rauf was not at his best.

Just because he bowled a few balls that aren't perfect doesn't mean that he was not at his best. He was great today, bowled with pace and accuracy. He even had an LBW that wasn't given, even though it was plumb.

Are you gonna tell me that he was sarcastic about that too?

I wouldn't have expected anything else from you.

And you didn't disappoint.

Watch the delivery bowled at 147.2kph and compare with others he bowled.

There is a slight change.

I may be wrong.

His action has a bit of jerk in some deliveries.

I`ve looked at the video a number of times, but i can`t see any jerk however as commentators declared Haris " unstoppable" and Mark Waugh saying he looks like Indian firebrand Jasprit Bumrah i did checked Bumrah`s bowling action videos, found a bit of jerk when he pitches it short. Googled little bit more and realized peoples are questioning about his bowling action.
Sooner or later a thread will be popping up on Pakpassion Rauf VS Bhumra, i can clear it right now Joshila sahib that Rauf is 100 times better bowler than Bhumra :)

He does have the tendency to struggle with his rhythm on occasions. Happened last year in PSL as well vs PZ. This is something which can be improved and wont be much of a problem for Waqar to fix it once Haris Rauf comes under his guidance.

He has some really impressive skills to be a successful LOI bowler. Just needs to keep himself focused and put in the required effort to maintain his fitness and fine tune a few things with Waqar.

Can't agree with you here.

His line and length was pretty good. Very accurate while still bowling at such a massive speed. He only made a little issue with the leg stump line in the last over, but even then the fielder overran the shot, causing a 4.

He needs to keep performing in bbl and psl and he will make the world t20 squad pakistan have alot of options such as

Amir wahab shaheen husnain naseem rauf faheem and ammad.

I do not agree with this.

He was devastating today and the Thunder couldn't cope with his bowling. He took the vital wicket of Ferguson, who was on great form, and his accuracy was like a homing missile.
