[PICTURES/VIDEOS] Haris Rauf at Melbourne Stars - Performance Watch

Well using your logic, yes you can argue Haris Rauf should've played in the "experimentation" series against Australia and England, but him playing the Pakistan Cup will have helped his development too.

But Waqar is meant to be the fast bowling guru yet he okayed the selection of 37 year old Mohammed Irfan and an unproven midget in Musa Khan. I know you are not defending those selections, but there is absolutely no excuse why Haris Rauf couldn't have played versus a Sri Lanka side minus its senior pros, and against Australia given the mediocrity Misbah and Waqar selected instead.

WC is the biggest event and you are not supposed to go forgo players with potential to add something to the team by playing them in the domestic competition. T20 bilateral series and WC is not at all a valid comparison. I personally dont mind any Inexperienced and young player missing a bilateral T20 series to play in domestic competition. Though its arguable.

Agreed that Haris could have played and Waqar and Misbah should have looked beyond just the numbers on which Irfan was better in national T20 cup and Haris wasnt that great just like they did with Imran Khan and Musa by selecting them over Ehsan Adil or maybe Sameen Gul.

You have to admit Waqar is doing a pretty decent job with Shaheen and Naseem. Its a fact that our selectors, coaches and captains have struggled to see talent more often than not in the last couple of decades. Asif, Amir, Shaheen, Naseem are exceptions in terms of pace bowling because they were too hard to miss.

Rauf continues to impress.

He will add something different to the bowling attack as he has more variations than the rest, and of course his ability to execute yorkers effectively.

The best thing about his performance is that he tried out for Hobart hurricanes and they said sorry we don’t need you. Than he does on to take a five fer against them what a tight slap to the Hobart hurricanes management love it .

Renegades are on track to score a big total. This will be tough challenge for Haris to keep them down in the death

First time watching him live, he has good control and fiery pace, not bad at all. it's not as if we are spoiled for choices. he should be in the WT20 squad.

Brilliant closing over, just 2 runs from it, four dots in a row YORKERS :D

Yorkers.
Bouncers.
Pace.
Slower Balls.

He's a great death bowler.

Imagine the pressure on him as well it’s immense now the whole world is talking about him stars fans have already engraved pictures of him on their shirts. It’s crazy to deliver in such pressure when you randomly become the main bowler not only in the team but in a major tournament from coming out of nowhere

Wicket.

I think using Rauf in the Powerplay isn't his thing. He's much better in the middle and the death.

He has exceeded expectations by MILES. Economy of under 6, has never been hit for over 28 (Econ of 7), picked up a wicket every game with a 5fer and a hattrick and an average of below 10.

AND PAKISTAN CHOSE HASNAIN FIRST.

Commentator did mentioned about Rauf, best death bowler of BBL, i think it was his second last over or last. Haris Rauf is a complete package for White ball cricket, i still cant believe Waqar and Inzamam were unable to discover his pace and yorkers :)

I guess credit goes to Aqib Javed and Lahore Qalandars. If it weren't for them we wouldn't have known Haris Rauf.

From local tapeball player to world star.

Very much false. He was probably the best new ball bowler on display during the Pakistan Cup. He’s got a quality out-swinger.

I didn't say he was bad in the Powerplay, but he's much better in the later overs because he gets a lot of swing and he executes the yorker a lot more.

Lahore Qalandars are a weak team compared to the other teams.

Haris Rauf’s great form is definitely a boost for the team. Will be looking forward to watch him play next month!

Abdullah719 can you post his last over video please. And anyone know what his speeds was today??

His fastest today was around 146-147kph. Only bowled a few balls above 145. A lot of slower balls today as well.

Thanks bro..

Great last over!!

Ever since gul 2007-2011 declined we have haven't been able to find a good death bowler someone consistent with Yorkers.

What is there to discover?? Haris was best death bowler in last PSL, also had most accurate yorker, with tail, speed and accuracy, whole Pakistan watched the, go back and check his bowling in death. He is not doing it for the first time. He was over looked because LQ was a trash team.

His bowled his last overs extremely well.
Conceded only 2 in his last over and he took 3 wickets in the match before in the last over.

He's absolutely amazing at the death overs

It was between him and Hasnain and buffoons selected Hasnain . Mickey said before WC that Harris is too raw.

I think regrettably this thread has included various posts about Haris vs Hasnain. Why can't they both be good!?!

Really happy to see Haris's performances down under, but I'm still sceptical about some posters declaring that he's a readymade all format player for Pakistan. He isn't.

Personally I feel that we still haven't seen enough of Haris in a LOI context to judge him completely. The sample size of his first class one day games is not big enough right now. Personally I'd like to see him win a county contract to see how he does.

Another thing I noticed both in the PSL and in the BBL is that he seems quite out of breath after a short spell (1-2 overs). He will need to work on his endurance to be effective in LOIs, as we don't want another Sohail Khan type fitness scenario, where you can't bowl a 5 over spell at full pelt.

Please note that I would love for him to prove me wrong!

Sensible comments, some people get carried away.

Excellent post , remember hasnain has tremendous potential

Didnt see him bowl but based on the scorecard it seems like not the best day at the office for Rauf.

Bit of a comedown for Rauf (1/43 in 4) but, he must use this as experience.

Good result for MLS

Watched the match

Tbh when the pressure was on the other team he didn’t get to bowl

At the end Dwarahius guy was just swinging with nothing to lose and Haris got tonked

"On what I've seen so far, the Stars clearly look like the best team. Maxwell, Stoinis, Haris Rauf all on fire" : Ricky Ponting on Twitter

This pitch was an absolute patta. Most of the runs also came off the last over when there was no pressure on the batsmen. Should be a good learning experience for him nevertheless

Off day came when it didn't matter. If you watched the match you would know he wasn't bowling with full effort, he was barely bowling 140. It will be a good lesson for him.

Bangladesh tour of Pakistan confirmed.

You know what this means?

THEY'RE GOING TO CHOOSE HARIS RAUF!

Deserves the chance in T20s, based upon potential, performance in PSL 2019 and recent form.

In the radar as well as Waqar has mentioned him.

His pace has come down last few games, lacking a bit of fitness?

If this is the case then i'd like to see him work on this first and then get picked in 6 months. It would set a good example to all fast bowlers in the domestic scene about what needs to be done to get into the national team.

At the moment it is a merry go round with too many domestic players eventually getting their turn, which was a key reason why Pakistan have struggled so much in the pace department over the last decade.

His pace has definitely gone down since Steyn left and he's been selected for consecutive matches. Definitely a worrying sign if he can't maintain for it T20's, never mind ODI's.

he was clocked at 94mph after stayen had left

His pace going slightly down doesn't mean anything.

After Steyn left, he still bowled balls over 90kph, got a hattrick and is still taking wickets every game.

People forget that he has not played a lot of cricket. He was playing grade cricket a few weeks ago.He will learn a lot from BBL.He has good pace but pace is not everything.Line and length also matters. In T20 high pace can work against you as well.Batamen can flick fast deliveries for four and six.

His only wicket today

relatively bad day ... 2 in a row... but from the purple patch he was having, was expected to have a bad day or 2 ...

cant wait to see him in PSL and international colours..

I can't agree with you here.

It wasn't bad. It was OK/Decent, but most of the work was done by Lamichhane and Coleman, meaning that Haris bowled his next spell when there was just 1 wicket left.

His first over today he was bowling in mid to late 140s

Second over was down to low 140s

By the end he was bowling high 130s and low 140s

He's a strike bowler and so ideally suited to T20 at this stage

His run out was well executed.

in isolation, the day was still great but relative to what he has been doing, this was a crappy day lol ...

So Pakistan T20I side camp starts tomorrow - Rauf must be on his way back and once series done - could go back for final stage of BBL

This summer's Big Bash League campaign could not have gone better for the Melbourne Stars but the championship favourites are suddenly facing adversity, losing Twenty20 sensation Haris Rauf and fellow fast bowler Jackson Coleman.

The Stars head into Saturday's home clash against the Perth Scorchers with a sizzling 9-1 record, including a seven-game winning streak, the latest an eight-wicket demolition of the Scorchers in Perth on Wednesday.

The Sydney Sixers and the Hobart Hurricanes each received a point after their match was abandoned in just the seventh over due to the rain at the SCG.

That was a fine team performance but they have since been forced into two changes, losing Rauf to international Twenty20 duties with Pakistan and Coleman to injury.

Rauf has been the feel-good story of the tournament. He was playing for the Glenorchy Magpies in Hobart when the Stars, through former Cricket Tasmania chief Nick Cummins, came calling - this after the Hobart Hurricanes had said he was surfeit to their needs.

That's proven a considerable mistake for the struggling Hurricanes, for Rauf - initially drafted in for the opening two BBL matches before fellow import Dale Steyn arrived - has 16 wickets in six matches, the second-best haul of any bowler.

His superb form has been rewarded with selection for his home nation in three Twenty20 matches against Bangladesh in Lahore - on January 24, 25 and 27.

After Saturday's clash against the Scorchers, the Stars' final three matches are on January 20, 22 and 25. The Stars hope Rauf will return in time for the finals, beginning January 30, although that is an elimination final - something the competition leaders will avoid.

"The club is currently working through timelines around any potential return for Rauf following the series and will announce any updates to their international roster in due course," the Stars said on Friday.

Pakistan selection chief Misbah-ul-Haq hopes Rauf can help give his side a burst of momentum, heading into the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia in October. Pakistan are the No.1 Twenty20 nation but their form has recently been poor.

"The return of Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik and Shaheen Afridi gives us the experience and depth, while the exuberance of Ahsan Ali, Amad Butt and Haris Rauf gives the team more firepower, energy and all-round skill," Misbah said.

The absence of Coleman is also a blow for the Stars, for he claimed three wickets in his first match of the season on Wednesday, and began the Scorchers' slide when he had Mitch Marsh caught slicing to backward point. He has right oblique muscle tightness but has been cleared of further injury.

Batsmen Nic Maddinson and Jonathan Merlo return to the 13-man squad but the Stars still have the advantage of having spurned internationals Marcus Stoinis and skipper Glenn Maxwell in stellar form.

The fourth-placed Scorchers have included NSW signing Kurtis Patterson for the first time. The former Test batsman has recovered from a quad strain.

Squads: Melbourne Stars: Glenn Maxwell (c), Hilton Cartwright, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Ben Dunk, Seb Gotch, Clint Hinchliffe, Sandeep Lamichhane, Nick Larkin, Nic Maddinson, Jonathan Merlo, Lance Morris, Marcus Stoinis, Daniel Worrall.

Perth Scorchers: Mitch Marsh (c), Fawad Ahmed, Cameron Bancroft, Tim David, Cameron Green, Joshua Inglis, Chris Jordan, Matthew Kelly, Liam Livingstone, Jaron Morgan, Joel Paris, Kurtis Patterson, Jhye Richardson.
