His keeping isn't good enough.
Okay… so who’s the ready-made replacement in T20Is who can both bat in the middle order and keep? The truth is, there isn’t one. Haseebullah is a fantastic prospect for ODIs and Tests, but not quite the T20 middle-order answer. Rizwan isn’t a middle-order T20 batter either. The best move is to back Haris and work on sharpening both his batting and keeping. We DONT HAVE ready made products coming from the system. We would have to be patient for players unless it becomes a musical chairs.
Haris doesn't know how to build a innings plus his keeping is terrible.

Only if pak lose to USA again (some false equivalence) and Harris plays at 3 (he forgets how to play cricket at other positions) and pitches are bouncy (his strengths aren’t suited to slow tracks). Unless each of these conditions are met they are willing to back this guy.

What Haris did with that run-out chase alone is unforgivable and if this was Rizwan, he would be getting death threats now.
Haris is a terrible player and he will never come good. His supporters should accept this and not die on this hill.
Rizwan can easily slot in at 4 and do much better than him. Pakistan will always be stronger with Rizwan playing over Haris no matter where Rizwan is batting in the lineup.
Rizwan is 33. In 2-3 years, he will be gone and hopefully Pakistan will find another WK batsman by then who will be ready to take over from him across formats.
Haris, just like Azam Khan, will never be that guy. He is not good enough.

I used to vouch for him and believed he is the biggest hitter in Pakistan.
But I was wrong and deluded by his t20 WC performance in 2022.
He was rightly dropped from squad so that he can work on his technique, rather chose to be loudmouth in chapri podcasts.
Even Mukhtar Ahmad was better than him. A piece of wood behind the stump is 10 times better than this obnoxious and narcissist dumb***

Played well against SA, BD & NZ. I know it wasn't substantial score but context of the match was such, everyone seemed to be struggling, making it difficult for Pak to win.

I agree I think the answer is to back him. Especially if there is no opener slot available, given Rizwan’s preference for opening in t20s. He’s a long term prospect still for us, and despite his failings, I can not think of another name for keeping apart for him and Rizwan.
I think the issue is surely we can find 5 batsmen better than him. If we could do that, no way would we playing him up the order he’d be down at 6 where he should have stayed. If he can simply be a decent keeper and useful slogger at 6, if we find 5 good batsmen to bat above him, it’s enough. It doesn’t seem such a hard task simply being average with the gloves at slogging a bit. Yes he is failing at that too, but he’s young and surely if he works hard there will be a point he will be able to do that at absolute minimum.
Farhan, fakhar, hasan (I have faith in him) are all better. I think Babar should come back at 3 as he’s going to offer more there than Haris. So it basically leaves one batting slot that we have to find who is a better batsman than Haris. I don’t think it should be too hard.
This tournament because of how bad our batsmen were, we were pressured to send up Haris to get him to perform to offset the other bad batsmen. That shouldn’t have been the case.

Currently on 86(103) in quaid e azam trophy. Before t20I selection these guys didnt even get chance to polish their skills in first class.

If he averages 17 in domestic T20 cricket, why was he brought in into the national team in the first place?
So either you didn’t do your homework and it’s on you and not Haris
OR
if you thought he was good enough to be in the team should you not give him more opportunities and back him a bit more?
It’s a total contradiction regardless.

Haris getting dropped was always a matter of when.

It is a contradiction to bring up the domestic performance.
I was ok with giving Haris chances, but his wicket-keeping became too sloppy,. especially in the final.
A keeper who can't bat is tolerable, but one that can neither keep or bat is not soemthing that a weak team like Pakistan can carry for too long.

Even his domestic record is poor... Not like he is breaking all records there.. He has no sense of shot selection, zero game awareness and his keeping has been below average as well.
We have not lost a gem here tbh.. It was always on cards

Him and Hassan Nawaz were victim of showing selflessness in this team.
They played for the team in whatever position coach and captain asked and now they're replaced by selfish players. They're waiting to knife Fakhar also

Yeah to an extent this was true. Both Haris and Hasan were slotted around and in hassan’s case actually dropped. While Farhan, fakhar, Agha and Saim had relatively constant positions. They both didn’t get fair treatment, even though I don’t rate Haris much.
Why I’m not really a fan of flexible position. Usually ends up in a player or two getting mistreated as a result. Should have stuck to their positions. Hasan never should have been dropped or moved from 4. Haris should have stayed down the order at 6 in my opinion.

We don't have many gems left in our cricket, so the idea is to keep trying new combinations until we can land on a set of players by some fluke.
We don't have even ONE world-class batter in our team at the moment when even associate sides have at least one really good batsman moving them forward.

While I want us to play attacking cricket but what Haris was doing was just swinging for the fences and hoping one connects. Hasan Nawaz got found out against spin on these tacky surfaces a bit, he actually tried to get himself set and got out.
This narrative is wrong. The likes of Farhan, Fakhar and Saim I am sure had more attempts at attacking strokes than Hasan Nawaz.

Hesson/Agha/Aqib built a good team where every player was fighting for each other. It was some of the best times we have had as Pakistan cricket fans in recent memory. Harris played his part to make sure Pakistan reached the final of the Asia cup

He should either be back, and so should Fakhar….or there will be vengeance. This is either a T20 team with all Batters playing for Pakistan’s cause or it will not be if there are one or two that are playing for themselves and dumb fans are promoting it because they like the incompetent player.

This is a problem with Pakistan Cricket. They do not back their plans, they do not see it through. As soon as failures arise in process, they drop their backed players and the plan goes nowhere.

Imagine a team where all batters have mindset of Fakhar, Haris, Hasan, Nawaz and even Faheem now a days. A team build like that slowly together will have enough comfort and confidence in their plans that Pakistan will challenge any team.
The moment you panic and push the pause button, you get sucked into the past troubles.
If the management continues to show weakness then I will bet that Rizwan and Babar will be Pakistan's openers in 2026 WT20 also.
Yes, Hesson has shown some weakness here. Removing both Fakhar and Haris. What message are you sending? I also thought dropping Hassan Nawaz in the middle of the tournament was a weak move too.
Maybe the decision was out of the team managements hands who knows, but it they were weak moments.
We may not have batted brilliantly, but the team played two tournaments, won one and lost the final by a narrow margin in the other.
Or did everyone expect this team to steamroller everyone in their path immediately?

This is a very deceptive argument like the one Hesson uses where he says we won 15 out of 20 or whatever it is coveniently ignoring that most of those were against minnows. You do the same thing - the tri series win was against UAE and Afghanistan where we dropped a game to Afghanistan. How low has our standard fallen?
In Asia Cup, we lost 3 matches in one tournament to India thanks to tulla Agha and savior Harris and Talat. Are we going to celebrate wins against Bangladesh, Oman and Afghanistan now? Siri Lanka was the only half decent win.
Well maybe should celebrate those wins and babs and Riz lost against USA.
SL and Bangla are good outfits and Afghanistan have had our number in the recent past.
I’m not saying celebrate - but you’ve put in a process and are already veering from it within 6 months.
The darpok process of Riz and babs was given 3 years for no reason, why have we abandoned this one?

The fact that you need to big up wins vs Afg and BD is a sad indictment of how low we have fallen in our standards. From the times when Indian teams with Tendulker and co used to fear playing us to now where fans are doing bhangra over wins vs BD, UAE and Afg...shame.

You know this is unfair on Babar as well.
First he was dropped and told to improve his game. Now how can he improve his game. If in the middle of his progress, he is asked to comeback again.
It would've been sensible to let Babar focus on his game and domestic. Until BBL. Then with BBL the world would've seen if Babar had improved his game or not.

I give Hassan Nawaz and Babar a pass because they fell trying to attack after the disgusting opening from dynamic duo as they scored a run a ball 30.
All of them need to end up out of the team like Harris if we drop a series to SA B side. Chasing 195 against SA second string bowlers, this is what our attacking batsmen did. Shameful.
