Imran throws down the gauntlet

As the ruling coalition mulls constitutional amendments aimed at sweeping judicial reforms, PTI founder Imran Khan on Saturday threw down the gauntlet, warning the government that the opposition party would resist any move to erode the judiciary's powers tooth and nail.

"Sacrifices are essential for freedom. Democracy is being slaughtered, and they are about to enslave the nation", said PTI founder Imran Khan while talking to journalists after a hearing of the £190 corruption case.

The former prime minister lambasted the ruling coalition for its alleged attempt to extend the term of incumbent Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa through a constitutional amendment.

"They want to protect human rights violations and electoral fraud. The new constitutional amendment is being made to bring in Qazi Faez Isa. There is no democracy left in the country. When a party with less than 20 seats was seated in parliament, that was the end of democracy," he said.

According to Imran, there are restrictions on the media, and judges are being threatened.

Criticizing the ruling PML-N, he said: They talked about respecting the vote [democracy], but in reality, they honored the boot [army].

"An FIR has been filed against me for a social media post. Why don't they also read the Hamoodur Rahman Commission Report to the nation? If they had implemented that report, martial law would never have been imposed in Pakistan," he added.

The former prime minister said his party was getting prepared for a street movement and will hold a rally in Lahore, come what may. "Holding a rally is our democratic and constitutional right, but for the past year and a half, we have not been allowed to do so. Has Punjab become a police state where we are not allowed to hold a rally?" Imran said

He said authorities put up lots of hurdles but the PTI managed to hold a huge rally in Islamabad last week on September 8. He said people have to make sacrifices in the struggle for "independence".

According to Imran who is incarcerated at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail since last year, the ruling PML-N and PPP are not doing politics but are engaging in servitude.

"I am ready to sacrifice my life, but I will never accept anyone's subjugation. What is happening to us today could happen to them tomorrow as well," he said.

The PTI founder condemned the recent arrest of PTI lawmakers from inside the Parliament House and described it as unprecedented.

When a journalist noted that police had entered the Parliament Lodges also during the PTI's rule, Imran said was not aware of any such incident. "No one has ever been taken from parliament until now," he said.

He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was about to be convicted in a money laundering case, but former army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa saved him.

When another journalist referred to a drugs case registered against PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah during the PTI's government, he said the case was made by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), whose head is a major general. "I called the ANF head, and he presented evidence against Rana Sanaullah during a briefing to the cabinet."

When a journalist mentioned that some PTI leaders had said the drugs case against Rana Sanaullah was false, and asked if he also considered it false, Imran said, "The case was made by the ANF, and they were the ones who told us that the drugs were seized from Rana Sanaullah. How would we know?"

Barrister Gohar

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairmain Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has criticised the government's potential move to introduce a constitutional amendment bill, stating that such action without following due procedure is against parliamentary rules.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad on Saturday, Gohar expressed frustration with the government's tendency to pass legislation "under the cover of darkness."

"We have always said that if you want to legislate, follow the proper procedure. The Constitution clearly outlines the legislative process, and we must adhere to the law and the Rules of Business," he remarked.

Gohar highlighted that private member bills first go to a committee, requiring permission a month prior, before being placed on the agenda. "Government bills are handled by the ministry, then passed through the cabinet with the prime minister's signature. Rules of Business 16 and 27 require the Ministry of Law and Parliamentary Affairs to advance these bills," he explained.

He further criticised the current government's approach: "There has been no cabinet meeting, no approval. If the bill is introduced without these steps, it will be a clear violation of the rules."

Zartaj Gul, a PTI leader, also condemned the government's actions, referring to the abduction of the wife, daughter, and aunt of Faisalabad MNA Saadullah Baloch. "They were told to present themselves before unknown entities. Imagine, present themselves to whom?" she questioned.

She also raised concerns over the disappearance of another PTI member, Aurangzeb Kachhi, stating, "For three days, we've had no news of him. The PML-N's unconstitutional actions will not only harm Pakistan but also damage parliament."

Constitutional amendments intend to give extension to 'three umpires': Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has alleged that a constitutional amendments are being pursued to extend the terms of three top officials, including Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Islamabad High Court’s chief justice, and the Chief Election Commissioner.

Speaking to the media at Adiala Jail, Imran claimed that the government, despite losing previous political battles, is now resorting to these amendments to safeguard fraudulent election results and protect officials in power.

"They are amending the constitution to extend the terms of three umpires,” Khan said.

He warned that if Chief Justice Isa is removed, investigations into the May 9 protests and the alleged rigged elections will be launched.

Imran criticised the delay in addressing the May 9 events, accusing the government of trying to dismantle his party.

He pointed out that he had been targeted with over 140 legal cases before May 9, adding that attempts to remove him only intensified after the date.

Imran expressed concern that if the new chief justice takes office, the true events of May 9 will come to light.

He also criticised the government for undermining Pakistan's judicial and electoral processes and delaying the tribunal decisions on the February 8 election.

Imran Khan attempts to play down Afghan diplomats' disrespect of Pakistani national anthem

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan criticised the attention on the Afghan diplomat issue, calling it trivial compared to the country's pressing concerns.

Speaking informally to journalists at Adiala Jail, Imran Khan argued that the nation's future is at stake, while the government is preoccupied with minor matters.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder emphasised that the situation in the country requires urgent attention, adding, “We are facing major issues, yet you’re focused on this.”

He also addressed the current political landscape, particularly the debate over constitutional courts.

When asked about his past support for the Charter of Democracy, which included the establishment of such courts, he said the context has changed.

“At that time, it was about saving Justice Qazi Faez Isa. What’s happening now is against the Constitution,” he added.

He also warned that the upcoming Lahore rally will be a "do or die" moment for his party, instructing his supporters to prepare for a decisive movement.

“No matter what they do, we’ve told the entire party to get ready. It’s time to come out,” he added.

Previously, Afghan Consul General in Peshawar, Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir, caused outrage at the Rehmat-ul-Alameen Conference by remaining seated during Pakistan's national anthem, flouting diplomatic protocols and showing what experts have called "utter disregard" for the host nation.

The conference, hosted by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, saw Afghan consular officials in attendance.

However, as the national anthem played, Shakir and his colleagues remained in their seats, a move widely condemned as a breach of diplomatic decorum.

"By not respecting the national anthem, the Afghan Consul General has shown blatant disrespect to Pakistan and its people. This is an extraordinary incident and contrary to the very essence of diplomatic conduct," said a political analyst, adding that such behaviour would be deemed unacceptable in any civilized society.

Meanwhile Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch condemned the Acting Consul General of Afghanistan for disrespecting the host country's national anthem, describing it as a violation of diplomatic norms.

In response to media queries about the Afghan envoy's disrespect towards the national anthem at a Peshawar event, Ms Baloch, stated that a strong protest is being conveyed to Afghan authorities in both Islamabad and Kabul.

Later, the Afghan Consulate in Peshawar defended the actions of its Acting Consul General, Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir, who remained seated during Pakistan's national anthem at the Rehmat-ul-Alameen Conference in Peshawar on Tuesday.

The spokesperson for the consulate clarified that the decision was due to the presence of music in the anthem.

In an official statement, the spokesperson said, “There was no intention to disrespect or demean Pakistan’s national anthem. The Consul General did not stand because of the music in the anthem.”

The consulate also noted that Afghan authorities have imposed a ban on the use of music in their own national anthem. "Had the anthem been presented without music or by children, the Consul General would have stood and placed his hand on his chest," the spokesperson added.

Dismissing any claims of disrespect, the consulate firmly stated, “The idea of disrespecting Pakistan or its national anthem is out of the question.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan has officially rejected Afghan Consul General Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir's explanation for not standing during the Pakistani national anthem at an event in Peshawar, terming the action a violation of diplomatic norms.

In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesman emphasised that disrespecting the host country's national anthem goes against diplomatic protocol.

"We have lodged a strong protest over this," the spokesman said, adding that the Afghan consul general enjoys diplomatic status in Pakistan and holds a valid visa.

Former PM Khan warns of ‘filling jails’ if Lahore rally is halted

Former prime minister Imran Khan warned of “filing jails” if the government tried to prevent his party’s Lahore rally scheduled for September 21.

“The upcoming Lahore rally is critical. It is a ‘do or die’ situation for us,” he told reporters in an informal conversation at the Adiala Jail on Thursday. “Do whatever you want to do, PTI and the whole nation will come out.”

He urged the people not to fear going to jail, asserting that if they are prevented from holding the rally, they should fill the jails.

Khan criticised the government, claiming that the constitutional amendment aims to protect the incumbent chief justice of Pakistan. He warned that if the Supreme Court was dismantled, Pakistan would become a “banana republic.”

The former prime minister stressed the need for thorough discussion regarding constitutional matters, stating that the Supreme Court was the “last institution” in which the public has faith.

“I knew this amendment was coming. Whatever needs to happen should be done after full consultation, not in the dead of night, as it reveals their true intentions,” Khan said and criticised the “decision-makers as fools and ignorant.”

In response to a journalist’s question about his previous endorsement of the Charter of Democracy, which included the establishment of constitutional courts, Khan did not directly address the stance he now holds.

When asked, the PTI founder said that every situation has its context.

He expressed his readiness to remain in jail for a longer period if necessary, encouraging the people not to fear imprisonment. “If we are stopped from holding this rally, we will fill the jails.”

Khan criticised those who profess to honour votes while actually undermining democracy, stating, “Democracy cannot function through force or by enslaving people.”

Will turn Lahore rally into a protest if government refuses permission: Imran Khan

Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has said if the government refused permission, the party's rally in Lahore then "we will turn the rally into a protest."

Imran, during an informal conversation with journalists at Adiala jail earlier today said, "If the rally is stopped, the entire nation will protest at Minar Pakistan".

"For a year and a half, rallies have not been allowed in Lahore. Destroying democracy means ending freedom, and having a rally is our constitutional right," the PTI chairperson noted.

The PTI founder alleged the PTI's rally at Minar-e-Pakistan is "aimed at protecting democracy and freedom", and is endorsed by the Supreme Court, but is being blocked once again.

"Despite the guarantee, containers were placed and obstacles set up at the Islamabad rally".

"Has anyone in the world ever given time to end a rally? We were deceived regarding the Islamabad rally," the PTI leader questioned.

"If the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore does not permit the rally, we will protest at Minar Pakistan," he stated.

The PTI founder alleged that even during Musharraf's martial law era, the media and political rallies were not banned from expression.

"Musharraf's election was free and fair compared to theirs, and he also did not impose bans on the media and rallies".

Speaking more on permission regarding rallies, he said, "Whatever their requests are, they are being heard, and ours are being rejected".

"There should have been an investigation into the commissioner's statement; it is also possible that he was wrong. It should not be the case that instead of investigating the commissioner's statement, it is dismissed".

Imran claimed that the CJP Isa and the chief election commissioner "are conspiring together to commit fraud".

"Today, on one side of the line is democracy and those who respect votes, and on the other side are those who respect power".

"Qazi Faez Isa is directly beneficiary of the constitutional amendments; he wants an extension. He takes every election case upon himself".

Imran said that he discusses the Hamoodur Rahman Commission report because the "same conditions" exist in the country today.

"These conditions in the country were not present even during the times of Musharraf and Zia-ul-Haq," he alleged.

He concluded the talk by stating that the nation is standing on one side, while the "small ruling class is destroying democracy" on the other.

It’s pretty interesting what Ahsan Iqbal brought up about Imran Khan and the Israeli lobby. According to him, there’s an article in an Israeli newspaper that suggests Khan is the "preferred" figure for the Israeli lobby in Pakistan, which is a heavy accusation. If that’s true, it definitely makes you wonder about the kind of international support he’s attracting and what’s driving it.

Iqbal also pointed out how Khan has been pushing a narrative of hate and division since 2013, which, honestly, is something we’ve all seen create major divides in Pakistan. The fact that Khan even opposed a Pakistani-origin candidate for the London mayoral race is another thing that raises eyebrows. Feels like there’s more going on behind the scenes than what meets the eye.

Where’s the divide lol? The recent elections showed that the country was united with PTI.

What hate did he spread, hatred against corruption is something we should all stand up for.

Israeli newspaper puts Imran in a tight spot

While Israel is becoming a pariah state due to its brutal invasion of Gaza that has resulted in the death of over 43,000 people mostly women and children since October last year, The Jerusalem Post has published a rather optimistic opinion piece about the "growing" recognition of the Zionist state in the Muslim world.

According to the article penned by Harry Richer, figures like incarcerated former premier Imran Khan can play a central role "in changing both public opinion and military policy" in Pakistan towards Israel.

Titled "Redrawing Israel's geopolitical map on Abraham Accords' anniversary", it contended that Pakistan has maintained a policy position that was pro-Palestinian for a long time but "recent years have seen an occasional sign of its desire to improve relations with Israel". "Former prime minister Imran Khan – despite his strong rhetoric against Israeli policies – hinted at Pakistan needing to forge its own foreign policy path. This was particularly pertinent at a time when the rest of the Muslim world began to normalize ties with Israel on the basis of self-interest," it said.

Referring to the PTI's phenomenal performance in the February 8 general elections, it said the influence of Imran Khan or perhaps the emergence of another like-minded and equally pragmatic leader could bring opportunities for reevaluating the extent to which Pakistan can afford to reconsider its historic hostility toward Israel, particularly in the face of its ongoing deep economic crises.

Enumerating the benefits Pakistan might have in the areas of economy, technology, agriculture, cybersecurity, and defense, in case it "normalises" ties with Israela broad euphemism for Pakistan does not recognise Israelthe writer highlighted how trade between Israel and the UAE jumped 124% to $2.59 billion year-on-year alone in 2022.

According to the writer, a more diversified foreign policy on Pakistan's part could also bring with it strategic benefits as it navigates its own complex relationships with both India and Afghanistan.

This is planted story(you can pay to have stories written in Isreali papers) with no basis in fact. IK was under huge pressure from establishment and the Saudi/UAE to recognise Isreal and categorically stated no and in public. It's one of the reasons he was overthrown. In Sept 2022 NS and establishment did send a delegation to Isaacs. Can you post that and explain why

I dare @FearlessRoar to explain the constitutional amendment that crooks voted for without reading
Challenge accepted

Firstly, they want to create a new court called the Federal Constitutional Court, which will only deal with stuff related to the constitution. It's like a specialized court to handle those kinds of cases.

Next, they're thinking of raising the retirement age of judges in this new court to 68, which is higher than the usual 65. And, get this, judges in this court will only serve for a maximum of three years! It's like a term limit, which is pretty interesting.

Also, the way judges are appointed is changing. Right now, it's a commission that recommends names, but in the future, the president will appoint the chief justice of this new court, based on the prime minister's recommendation.

Lastly, they're trying to reverse a previous ruling that said if a legislator votes against their party, it won't count. Now, they want to allow legislators to vote freely, even if it goes against their party's line.

Yes he was. He is a spokesman for the establishment. Look at his tweets and you will see the same propaganda that you and your ilk spread. What action was taken against him for breaking PK law? Just imagine what action would have been taken against him if he was PRO IK. So tell me why the Generals sent him. Imran Khan denies allegations of supporting ties with Israel

Former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, has dismissed allegations of being a proponent of establishing relations with Israel, accusing detractors of twisting the narrative based on a recent Israeli newspaper article.

Khan, who is facing several legal battles while in detention, addressed the media at Adiala Jail on Monday, labelling the claims as part of a "propaganda campaign."

"Since yesterday, there has been a propaganda blitz, citing an Israeli newspaper that I am the biggest advocate for relations with Israel," Khan said. "These claims are absurd. The article did mention me, but clearly, some people do not understand English."

The article in question, published by The Jerusalem Post, discussed Khan's influence in the Muslim world and the West, speculating on the potential impact he or a similar leader could have on Pakistan’s foreign policy, particularly in relation to Israel. However, Khan was quick to clarify that his position on Israel remains firmly pro-Palestinian.

"My stance on Israel has not changed. The Palestinian people are enduring genocide. Any discussions with Israel are contingent upon a ceasefire and a genuine commitment to a two-state solution," Khan asserted. He accused his political opponents of misinterpreting the article to undermine his credibility.

Entire system, including Supreme Court and economy, collapsing: Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan expressed grave concerns over the current state of the judiciary and the overall governance system in Pakistan.

In an informal interaction with the media at Adiala Jail, he claimed that the entire system, including the Supreme Court and the economy, is on the verge of collapse, and accused the government of deliberately trying to undermine the judiciary.

"Everyone knows what is going on in the Supreme Court since yesterday," he remarked.

The former prime minister alleged that the government is bent on destroying the Supreme Court by ensuring that judges from both the Supreme Court and high courts become subservient. "They have destroyed the country and are now focused on destroying the Supreme Court," he claimed.

Imran Khan also criticized Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, claiming that they are "one and the same." He further alleged that the chief election commissioner is aware that he could face charges under Article 6 of the Constitution for his role in alleged election fraud, which is why he is brushing the matter under the carpet.

"Their aim is that their fraud is not exposed and the PTI does not see a rise in popularity," Imran claimed.

The PTI founder claimed the entire world had recognized the February 8 election as fraudulent. He raised questions about the May 9 incidents, where violence broke out following his arrest, and demanded to know the whereabouts of CCTV footage from that day. "They themselves set the fire during the May 9 incidents," he alleged.

Imran Khan also accused the government of suppressing PTI by preventing the party from holding public meetings and rallies. "It's the chief justice's job is to protect fundamental rights," he remarked. Imran questioned whether political rallies in the summer ever ended at 6pm.

The PTI founder also emphasized the role of the Chief Justice in protecting fundamental rights and expressed concerns over the judiciary's independence. "What is happening since yesterday is clear—the Chief Justice and the Chief Election Commissioner are one," he asserted.

The PTI leader concluded by reiterating that the government’s primary objective is to prevent the exposure of electoral fraud and to keep PTI from rising to power. He criticized the government's handling of the economy, which he said was spiraling towards collapse, and reiterated that the nation was fully aware of the ongoing issues within the judicial system.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) jailed founder Imran Khan has said his party is completely backing Supreme Court's Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to become the country's next top judge

"The appointment of the next chief justice should be announced soon. [We] completely back Justice Mansoor Ali Shah," the former prime minister said while speaking to journalists informally in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail on Wednesday.

Khan, who was removed from power via a parliamentary vote in April 2022, said that the purpose of the "constitutional court is to end the power" of the Supreme Court's chief justice, adding that the "government is bent on destroying the judiciary".

"They want their own judges to cover the [2024] election fraud," the PTI founder insisted, stressing that the government "does not want the PTI to rise at any cost".

The ousted premier made these comments in light of the ongoing saga surrounding the constitutional package chalked out by the ruling coalition which allegedly provisions regarding extension in the retirement ages of the high court and supreme court judges.

The government pushed the proposed constitutional package amid speculation about a potential extension in the tenure of Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, who is set to retire in October this year, following the PTI's request last month for the early issuance of a notification regarding the appointment of the next top judge.

However, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), despite having the support of its allies such as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and others, had postponed introducing the constitutional amendments in the parliament despite claiming to have secured the "magic number" earlier.

The deferment came after Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) refused to lend its support to the ruling coalition, short of 13 votes in the National Assembly (NA) and nine in the Senate as the said legislation, aimed at amending the Constitution, requires a two-thirds majority in both houses.

In the National Assembly, the ruling coalition needs 224 votes to pass the constitutional amendments, whereas in the Senate the number stands at 64. Currently, as per reports, treasury benches have 211 members against the opposition's 101 MNAs.

Although JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has so far remained seemingly unwilling to back the amendments, which he, in fact, has termed a bid to protect the coalition government,

Adviser on Political and Public Affairs and PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah had hinted at evolving "minimum consensus" among political parties on controversial judiciary-centric constitutional amendments that also included the proposal to establish constitutional court — which PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has said would be introduced "come what may".

The PM's aide also said that the consultation process with other political parties on the judicial package has not stalled as the Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari-led PPP and Maulana Fazlur Rehman-led JUI-F were working on their draft amendments.

He added that the drafts could be discussed in the forthcoming consultative sessions after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's return from the United States and opined that the government would table the constitutional package after developing a "minimum consensus".

Imran questions CJP's 'mental fitness'

PTI founding chairman Imran Khan has lashed out at Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, accusing him of biased behaviour and questioning his mental fitness.

During a conversation with media representatives in Adiala Jail on Friday, the PTI chief remarked, "No chief justice in the world has acted the way Pakistan's chief justice is behaving. He does not seem mentally sound to me."

Khan claimed that the verdict to strip PTI of its electoral symbol was biased as "the SC verdict in the reserved seats case has vindicated our stance."

The CJP had protected the election fraud and now he is trying to deprive PTI of its seats, said Imran Khan.

The PTI supremo alleged that the CJP was attempting to crush PTI for extension in his tenure, adding PML-N and PPP are family-based parties but no one asks about their party elections while PTI's three intra-party polls were nullified.

The former premier further claimed that the chief justice and chief election commissioner were hands in glove for winning extension in their tenure.

Why the Rawalpindi commissioner was not summoned after his statement on election rigging?" Khan asked, criticising the lack of accountability.

Referring to the ongoing power struggle, Khan stated, "The so-called third umpire also seeks an extension, and for that, they need PDM's support. They are destroying democracy and the rule of law to maintain power, while the nation begs for a single dollar."

On the current political climate, Khan said, "There is a moral collapse in the country, and institutions are being dismantled. They will never grant us a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for our protests, and if they do, they will push us outside the city, blocking roads and restricting us to a 6pm deadline." He urged the nation to come out for the sake of the country.

He isn't mental( from all reports he is a bit loopy), the guy is immoral and corrupt. He and his wife took bribes and laundered it from PK to the UK. His wife even used a Foreign ID-Serena Isa used a Spanish name to launder money from PK. Her Spanish nationlaitu name was Zarina Montserrat Carrera. This was done to avoid getting caught for money laundering. Her Husband claimed that their children were independent and brought the property independently but on the paper work they put the reason for sending money as Kids education expenses. What a corrupt and evil man

Imran named in terrorism cases over Pindi protests

The Rawalpindi police on Sunday registered three new terrorism cases against PTI founder Imran Khan and chairman Barrister Gohar Khan following the violent protests on September 28 at Liaquat Bagh on Murree Road.

The cases, which include serious allegations of inciting violence against national institutions, also named Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

The FIR accuses the PTI chairman of calling for protests from Adiala Jail, with Gandapur actively participating.

The cases, filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act (Section 7), also include charges of attempted murder, violations of Section 144, and other terrorism-related offenses.

The PTI chairman and K-P CM have also been directly named in the cases for abetment under Section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The New Town and Civil Lines police stations lodged these cases.

In addition to criticising the Punjab government and national institutions, protesters are accused of vandalism, rioting, and stone-pelting.

Cases were filed across Rawalpindi, including two cases at City Police Station, where 15 leaders were named and 300 protesters remain unidentified.

Article 63-A review: SC dismisses objection raised over bench by Imran’s counsel

The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed an objection raised by PTI founder Imran Khan’s counsel over the bench hearing a review petition against its 2022 verdict related to the defection clause under Article 63-A of the Constitution.

Through its May 17, 2022 verdict, the SC had declared that the vote cast contrary to the parliamentary party lines under Article 63-A should not be counted.

Article 63-A aims to restrict the voting powers of lawmakers by making them bound to the decision of the “Party Head” — whoever is formally declared the head of the party. The penalty for violating Article 63-A is disqualification from the National Assembly and the vacation of the defecting lawmaker’s seat, the Constitution states.

The review plea, filed by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), was on Tuesday taken up by a five-member bench — headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa and also including Justices Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan, Aminuddin Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel.

Justice Afghan had been included after Justice Munib Akhtar — part of the bench that originally heard the case — and senior puisne judge Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah successively chose not to sit on the larger bench.

During the hearing on Tuesday, SCBA President Shahzad Shaukat presented his arguments, with CJP Isa poking holes in the opinion rendered by the previous larger bench on the presidential reference filed by then-president Arif Alvi.

Today, Senator Ali Zafar appeared before the court as Imran’s lawyer while Shaukat and Pakistan Bar Council Vice Chairman Farooq H. Naek were also present.

At the outset of the hearing, Zafar said he would present “solid” arguments and seek more time to present them, saying he needed to consult the former prime minister on the case.

The counsel sought the court’s permission to meet with Imran to discuss the case with him, at which CJP Isa directed him to begin his arguments.

“If you had to consult with him, then you should’ve told us yesterday; we could’ve issued an order [in that regard],” the top judge said.

Here, Mustafeen Kazmi, who said he was a PTI lawyer, came to the rostrum and was told to go back. Following a harsh exchange of words with CJP Isa, Kazmi said the five-member larger bench was unconstitutional, as well as the inclusion of two judges in it.

“There are 500 lawyers standing outside [the SC]. Let’s see how a decision against us would be made,” the lawyer said, at which the chief justice ordered that the man be escorted out of the courtroom.

The development led to CJP Isa inquiring Zafar about the lawyer’s behaviour and censuring him.

“What is happening Ali Zafar sahib? You come and insult us? We will strictly not tolerate this,” the chief justice asserted.

Distancing himself from Mustafeen and attempting to calm the air, the PTI senator replied that he was presenting his arguments very respectfully and that Justice Isa was also listening to him with patience.

Zafar then continued with his arguments, saying that it was necessary for the respondents to be issued notices in the case.

“This manner is not right; the bench is not lawful. It is not even right according to the amendment ordinance,” Zafar argued, objecting to the bench formation.

“Now you are threatening us,” the top judge observed.

“Do you want to run the institutions in this manner? Every day it is said that there are two groups of judges,” Justice Mandokhail chimed in.

At one point during the hearing, Zafar contended that according to the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Act, benches were to be formed as per the majority view of a three-member committee of judges.

“There is no scope in the law that two members of the committee form benches,” Imran’s lawyer asserted.

Referring to a recent ordinance promulgated, the top judge said: “The amendment ordinance has not been challenged before us (SC).”

Zafar pointed out that Justice Shah’s letter, wherein he had expressed displeasure with the ordinance, called for a full court to deliberate the matter. Later during the hearing, CJP Isa said: “I have no issues with summoning a full court.”

“Now, there would neither be authoritarianism in the country nor in institutions,” the top judge observed.

At one point, Zafar urged the court to first decide whether the bench hearing the case was “lawful”, adding that he could present his arguments only once it had been decided.

Subsequently, the court dismissed the objection raised by Imran’s counsel. “We all have unanimously decided to dismiss your objection on the bench,” the CJP said.

Zafar then requested the court again that if the court had “decided to not include the verdict’s author” — Justice Akhtar — in the bench, then he be allowed to meet his client.

The court accepted the lawyer’s plea, ordering the additional attorney general to make arrangements for Zafar’s meeting with Imran to discuss the case.

The hearing was then adjourned until 11:30am tomorrow (Thursday).

Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Islamabad on Thursday issued show-cause notice to Adiala jail authorities for not ensuring Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s attendance through video link in Azadi March case hearing

ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra heard Azadi March vandalism case.

Advocates Amna Ali, Murtaza Turi and Mirza Asim Baig represented the PTI founder whereas Aamir Mehmood Kayani,
Khurram Shehzad and Jamshed Mughal appeared before court.

Tanveer Hussain and Ali Nawaz Awan requested exemption from hearing.

Justice Sipra asked about former PTI leader Asad Umar, to which defence counsel amna Ali informed that he had been discharged fr5om the case.

“We have received a report regarding Imran Khan’s attendance in which it is told that he can’t attend the hearing due to unavailability of the internet. We had also received the same report yesterday to which I had issued a show-cause notice. I am again issuing a show-cause notice in which I will summon Imran Khan if internet wasn’t available,” Justice Sipra observed.

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till Oct 28.

Rumor's that IK has been brutally tortured at Adiala Jail and that is why he has been kept in solitary confinement and away from visitors for the next 10 days. Ali Amin has been promised that the establishment will help promote him as the next national PTI leader in place of IK in exchange for his co-operation.

There is just no place for principled politics. MNA's who are openly refusing to support the Constitutional amendments are having to deal with their properties, businesses being seized, demolished, family members harrassed and then you have the international establishment turning a blind eye to the acts of this regime.

IHC orders meeting of PTI founder with his sister

The court has also requested Imran Khan’s medical report and ordered that he be provided with the best health facilities.

The orders were issued by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, who directed that Imran Khan be allowed to meet his sister as soon as possible after the removal of restrictions.

The court’s decision comes amid concerns about Imran Khan’s health and well-being during his incarceration.

Earlier, PTI founder Imran Khan was banned from meeting his family, lawyers, and party leaders at Adiala Jail, where he is currently incarcerated.

According to sources, the jail authorities cited security concerns as the reason for this ban.

Sources revealed that the ban on meetings imposed by the Punjab government will be in place until October 18 and will also apply to other prisoners at Adiala Jail.

In a separate development, Islamabad’s Duty Magistrate earlier approved a one-day physical remand for Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

The two sisters were presented before Duty Magistrate Azhar Nadeem’s court in connection with a case registered at Kohsar Police Station.

Police had requested a 20-day physical remand for the accused, but the court approved only a one-day remand.

i see few people circulating photos of IK on hospital bed and he seems very down. may be he was tortured. Irrespective of how i feel about his politics, torturing anyone, especially a political a leader, should never be acceptable in any society. Hopefully Pakistanis rise up to support him in that

I remember when Nawaz Sharif was in jail in 2018-2019, Bilawal went to Adiala Jail and staged a press conference stating that Mian Saab was the ex prime minister of the country and deserved to be treated with dignity, respect. When NS, AZ and other political prisoners were behind bars under IK reign, these people were given A and B class facilities where they had AC's, refrigerators, tv and home cooked food sent to them and got many visitors. NS even went abroad under IK's reign.

There is a saying only inflict as much torture and pain as much you can endure.

Heard some disturbing news that Imran Khan was possibly tortured. May he become free soon.

Bukhari blames Pakistan govt for Imran Khan’s disqualification from Oxford chancellor contest

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan's aide has claimed that the Pakistan government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif played a role in the disqualification of the former premier from the Oxford University chancellor election.

Syed Zulfi Bukhari, the former PM adviser on international affairs, ran a high-profile media campaign for the imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) top leader to run in the election but the university decided to not allow Khan to stand in the election, let alone become the chancellor, over Toshakhana conviction and politicisation of the issue.

Speaking to The News, Bukhari said he was convinced that the government forces from Pakistan campaigned against Khan’s candidacy and put the university under some kind of pressure to block him from contesting the chancellor election.

"The Oxford University has made a very narrow-minded and pressured decision to block Imran Khan. The decision came as a big disappointment because the whole of Pakistan wanted Imran Khan to take part in the Oxford University chancellor election. People from India, Bangladesh, Indonesia and many Islamic countries wanted Imran Khan to take part, he claimed.

The PTI leader further said that nearly 200 Oxford alumni signed the petition in Khan’s support, saying there were no legal grounds to block Imran Khan.

“Before we submitted Imran Khan’s nomination papers we took advice from many King’s Counsels (KCs) and they agreed that nothing is barring Imran Khan legally from taking part. The Oxford Uni has made a narrow-minded and pressured decision to block Imran Khan. To say that Imran Khan is convicted in the Toshakhana case would not justify the decision because in the same case, the United Nations Working Group has said that Imran Khan’s detention is illegal and cases against him are politically motivated.

In all other cases the sentences have been appealed and set aside so there is no legal standing. At the end of the day, Oxford University has a charitable status and according to the UK rules governing charities, Imran Khan is eligible to open his bank accounts and become a trustee or become a charity director.”

Bukhari said one of the biggest awareness campaigns in the history of Oxford University was run around Khan’s candidacy and the whole world got to know about his case through this campaign. He said he was aware that the varsity was petitioned against Khan – first started by social media activists R A Shehzad and Hajra Khan and later picked up PML-N UK’s Khurram Butt and several others – but he said several other actors played a role too.

He said: “I understand that many pressures came alongside his candidacy. I believe that Oxford Uni has made a ‘pressured decision’ and Lord Daniel Hannan clearly said it a decision was made in pressure. I do not think the UK government has played a part but the Pakistani government certainly has. Political differences aside, the Pakistani government should have supported Imran Khan as he would have presented Pakistan on a global stage. They should have supported him as a Pakistani hero. There is no doubt that there was enough pressure applied and Oxford University may have thought that they did not want to get involved in a muddy situation.”

Bukhari has also said he is considering legal action against the university and already written to the university.

“Naturally, before applying for this role we took the advice of KCs, top solicitors across the country, barristers – and with their consent and their opinion did we go ahead. So legally there is no reason why Khan should not be allowed to contest. I’m sure we will get to the bottom of it. We will use all legal possibilities.”

A university source told The News: “More than 40 people applied and only 38 were approved. The candidates were only excluded according to the exclusion criteria of the university. 26,000 people have registered to vote in this election. Khan has been disqualified to run in the election over several factors including his conviction and political role.”

The prominent names wanting to become the next Chancellor are Lord William Hague, Lady Elish Angiolini, Lord Peter Mandelson, Khan, Dr Margaret Casely-Hayford and Dominic Grieve but only Khan has been disqualified from the top five well-known figures.

The News had reported exclusively on Tuesday that a King’s Counsel at UK’s leading law firm Matrix Chambers has opined that former prime minister Khan is not eligible for Oxford Chancellorship according to the university’s own regulations. Hugh Southey, King's Counsel at Matrix Chambers in London said: “In my opinion, Khan is unlikely to be eligible to be a candidate in light of one of his criminal convictions.”

Fears Grow for Health of Pakistan’s Jailed Former Prime Minister Imran Khan

Concern is mounting regarding the health of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has spent over a year in a squalid prison cell on a slew of charges his supporters insist are politically motivated.

On Tuesday, Khan’s ex-wife, British socialite Jemima Khan, posted on X that the couple’s sons had been barred since Sept. 10 from speaking with their father, who his party alleges has also been denied access to lawyers or doctors. “He is now completely isolated, in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world,” she wrote. “His lawyers are concerned about his safety and well-being.”

A court order had permitted Khan’s personal physician to visit him in jail on Tuesday but he was denied entry after waiting for several hours outside, Raoof Hasan, a spokesperson for Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, told TIME. Instead, two government-appointed doctors examined Khan, 72, and later released a report that declared him “fit and healthy.”

However, Hasan insisted that assessment is not trustworthy. “We have no faith in the doctors,” he said. “They're government servants and obviously they will do as the government directs. They had fudged Khan's medical report once in the past. There are indications that Khan is not really well.”

In response to criticism regarding the welfare of Khan, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said: “Imran [has been] extended far more humanity than he ever exhibited for his opponents.”

Khan’s PTI party was banned in the lead up to February elections but independent candidates it backed still won a plurality of legislative seats, despite its leader being behind bars and myriad irregularities both before and on polling day. However, the second place Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party instead formed a government largely thanks to military backing.

In a rare demonstration of bipartisan resolve, the U.S. House of Representatives voted by an overwhelming 368-7 in June for an investigation into alleged poll-rigging in Pakistan, echoing separate calls by the U.K. and E.U. However, no executive action has been taken by the White House, which “speaks to the duplicity of the Western world,” says Hasan. “It’s very unfortunate that Pakistan has not had the attention we deserve in the context of both democracy and human rights.”

The increasing pressure on Khan and his family—two of his sisters were also detained on Oct. 4—comes as the PTI planned a series of flash protests in Islamabad to coincide with an ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit that would have proven extremely embarrassing for the government, said Samina Yasmeen, director of the Centre for Muslim States and Societies at the University of Western Australia.

“The government is already so weak and feeling under threat, so their main reaction is to put as much pressure as they can on the PTI and especially Khan,” she said.

In June, the U.N. Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Khan was unlawfully and arbitrarily detained and called for his immediate release. In a separate post on X on Tuesday, Jemima Khan revealed that she’d received rape threats from Khan’s opponents. Meanwhile, the PTI has vowed to continue protesting unless Khan receives access to his family, lawyers, and doctors.

“There is a possibility that we will call for a national strike,” Hasan said. “The government has used the worst of its apparatus in the last two and a quarter years. They're at their fascist worst; they have brutalized people, they've arrested them, they've tortured them, mauled the families. There's really nothing to fear any longer.”

US lawmakers urge President Biden to pressure Pakistan into releasing Imran Khan

Around 60 Democratic lawmakers from the US House of Representatives have written to President Joe Biden urging him to pressure Pakistan into releasing of Imran Khan, the jailed founding chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

"We write today to urge you to use the United States' substantial leverage with Pakistan's government to secure the release of political prisoners including former Prime Minister Khan and curtail widespread human rights abuses," the lawmakers wrote in a letter on Wednesday.

US Representative Greg Casar, who led the letter, said it marked the first such collective call from multiple members of the US Congress for the release of Khan, who otherwise has had testy relations with Washington as a long standing critic of US foreign policy.

Imran has been in jail since August 2023 and has faced dozens of cases after he was removed from the prime minister's position in April 2022 throiugh a parliamentary vote of no confidence. His party has said that the more than 200 cases are politically motivated.
He has been acquitted or granted bails in most of the cases filed against him.

The pending cases against him mostly pertain to the May 9 violence. Khan has denied responsibility and has been acquitted or granted bail in many of those cases.

He also faced the 190 million pound Al Qadir varsity land corruption case. The case alleges that Imran and Bushra obtained billions of rupees and land worth hundreds of kanals for legalising Rs50 billion – at that time £190 million – that was identified and returned to the country by the UK during the PTI government in 2019.

Imran says cases against him, which disqualified him from contesting the February 2024 elections, are politically motivated. A UN human rights working group said in July Imran's detention violated international law.

After being ousted Imran blamed the Pakistani military for his removal, accusing it of taking dictation from the US.

He singled out top US diplomat Donald Lu, for involvement in Washington's alleged engineering of his ouster from power through a vote of no-confidence.

The US and Pakistani military both had denied any involvement in Imran Khan's ouster calling his removal a democratic process.

The political turmoil surrounding Imran escalated following his arrest on May 9, 2023, on corruption charges, which sparked widespread violent protests from his supporters and party leaders, including an assault on the army headquarters in Rawalpindi and the burning of a corps commander's residence in Lahore.

Following the unrest, Imran, in a purported audio conversation that surfaced on social media was heard reaching out to US Congresswoman Maxine Moore Waters, imploring her to advocate against the reported human rights abuses in Pakistan.

The ex-prime minister expressed concerns over what he said was an escalating crackdown on PTI members that began shortly after violence that followed his arrest.

Meanwhile, the Democratic lawmakers also raised concerns about reported irregularities in Pakistan's elections.

Pakistan's government denies being unfair in Imran's treatment and its election commission denies the elections were rigged.

Although Imran did not run, but candidates he backed secured the highest number of seats. But they still failed to muster the support of allies to meet the required number of parliamentary seats to form a government. His rivals however managed a majority and formed a coalition government.

Elections in Pakistan have mostly faced accusations of non-transparency and irregularities. The losing parties usually cry foul as was the case in 2013, 2018 and 2024.

Imran Khan's own ascent to power in 2018 was marred by opposition's allegations of pre-poll rigging and being granted favour from the establishment.

The leadership of the country's incumbent major governing parties, the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) at that time were in the opposition and facing corruption-based crackdown much like Imran's PTI faces now.

The PML-N and PPP at that time had claimed that the cases against them were politically motivated and trumped up to weaken their pre-election position to place Imran Khan into power.

A survey by the Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (Pildat) found that the 2024 polls had the lowest fairness score among all general elections conducted since 2000. The 2013 elections were given the highest fairness score.

This will get interesting. Sanctions on the Junta and the puppets will make them think twice about kidnappings and torture
I think they can't keep IK in jail for long if someone from US higher hierarchy even directs them halfheartedly

I think they can't keep IK in jail for long if someone from US higher hierarchy even directs them halfheartedly
We know the Americans won't do any such thing. They fear him more than the Junta. The Junta is their project and soon you will see Haqqanis hard work pay off and the bilawal will be promoted. The only problem for the all 3 is the Billo has no support or credibility amongst PKs, where he is seen as screeching clown that sat at the feet of the guys that killed his mother and grandfather

IHC orders formation of medical board for Imran Khan's check-up

The Islamabad High Court directed the administration to constitute a medical board to check up the PTI founder Imran Khan.

Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb ordered to include Khan's personal doctor in the board.

The court ordered the Executive Director of PIMS to designate the board and submit the medical report to the Registrar’s Office.

Highlighting Khan’s age (72), his status as an under-trial prisoner, and his B-class incarceration, the court highlighted that security measures at Adiala Jail should not block his access to proper medical care.

This decision comes in response to Imran Khan's request for a medical check-up under the supervision of his personal doctors.

The court disposed of the case.

Congressmen letter seeking Imran Khan’s release received by Biden admin: State Dept

The US State Department has confirmed it received a letter from 60 US Congress members urging the Biden administration to advocate for the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

During a recent media briefing, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller acknowledged the letter, dated October 23, which calls on the administration to address concerns over human rights and democratic principles in Pakistan, including the release of Imran Khan and other detained political figures. Miller noted that a formal response to the Congress members would follow.

The letter, signed by bipartisan Congress members, expresses concerns about alleged restrictions on internet access, social media, and possible electoral irregularities in Pakistan. It urges President Joe Biden to leverage Washington’s influence to secure the PTI leader’s release. Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) responded to the appeal, describing it as contrary to diplomatic norms and international conduct.

FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining constructive dialogue with the US. but noted that such external remarks on internal matters could strain Pakistan-US relations.

Congress members have also encouraged US embassy officials to visit Imran Khan, who has been detained in Adiala Jail since August 2023 following his conviction in the Toshakhana case. He remains imprisoned with national elections set for February 8.

Additionally, Miller reiterated the US position on upholding democratic principles and human rights in Pakistan, highlighting recent meetings between US officials and their Pakistani counterparts, where the importance of human rights, a vibrant society, and democratic institutions in Pakistan was underscored as a vital aspect of the US-Pakistan relationship.

Israeli lobby and Goldsmith family are plotting against Pakistan: Sharjeel Memon

Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that Israeli lobbies are working tirelessly to bring their agenda forward, and that the Israeli lobby and the Goldsmith family are conspiring together to weaken Pakistan.

During a press conference in Karachi, the senior provincial minister said the public is being misled. “Lobbying is being done on your behalf by Israel, and you are using global lobbies. You must have made some commitments, as other countries are assisting you; come forward openly,” he urged.

He condemned the behavior of PTI members towards Justice Qazi Faez Isa in London, calling it shameful and mafia-like. “Imran Khan’s children are also in London; they should be told to address this. Qazi Faez Isa is a highly respected person. You can criticize, but such behavior is inappropriate towards any opponent. This is the dirty training that Imran Khan has imparted. The PTI is not Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf; it is Israeli Tehreek-e-Insaf.”

Sharjeel Memon also remarked on his grievances with former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, stating, “Saqib Nisar violated the law and the Constitution, but I will still greet him respectfully if I meet him.” He noted that while there are many good judges in the country, figures like Saqib Nisar and Iftikhar Chaudhry have harmed the judiciary's reputation.

He emphasized that a new system has been implemented in the country following recent amendments. “In the past, the judiciary appointed judges, but now everyone will be accountable, and the role of public representatives remains intact,” he explained.

Memon praised the 26th constitutional amendment, stating it is not a new system and is already in practice globally. He acknowledged the challenges of the amendment process but confirmed that all parties were consulted. “The 26th amendment is a positive step, and now people will receive justice. Previously, provinces complained about unequal shares.”

He further declared that law enforcement agencies will operate strictly throughout the province starting tomorrow. Action will be taken against vehicles with tinted windows and police lights, while displaying weapons and fake number plates will be prohibited. “Consider this statement as a public awareness campaign; no one will be spared,” he asserted.

Parliamentarians fire back at US Congress' push for Imran Khan’s release

National Assembly legislators have reportedly condemned a letter from 62 US Congress members that asked President Joe Biden to pressure Pakistan into releasing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s founding chairman Imran Khan.

Around 160 members of Pakistan's National Assembly sent a letter to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, characterising the congressional appeal as an intrusion into Pakistan’s internal affairs, according to a local media report.

The Pakistani lawmakers, including notable figures such as Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Naveed Qamar, Mustafa Kamal, Aasiya Naz Tanoli, and Khalid Magsi, expressed deep concerns over the perceived interference.

They called upon Prime Minister Sharif to formally convey to the US Congress that Pakistan is currently grappling with democratic challenges, which have been compounded by what they labelled as disruptive politics.

The letter outlined accusations against Imran Khan, asserting that he promoted political violence and made criminal threats against state institutions.

It specifically referenced the large-scale unrest on May 9 2023, during which protesters allegedly incited by Imran targeted buildings including Parliament, state-run television, and Radio Pakistan.

The Pakistani lawmakers’ letter further stated that Imran Khan’s tactics were not new, citing previous incidents in August 2014 and May 2022 when his political moves allegedly 'paralysed the country.'

The letter added that Imran Khan continues to provoke unrest and violence from jail, with particular reference to his use of social media for what the lawmakers described as “digital terrorism.”

The letter also suggested that disgruntled expatriates in the US and U.K. have played a role in Imran Khan’s negative campaign, leading to heightened concerns within both countries about the activities of their citizens.

Last week, around 60 Democratic lawmakers from the US House of Representatives wrote to President Joe Biden urging him to pressure Pakistan into releasing Imran Khan, the jailed founding chairman of the PTI.

"We write today to urge you to use the United States' substantial leverage with Pakistan's government to secure the release of political prisoners including former Prime Minister Khan and curtail widespread human rights abuses," the lawmakers wrote in a letter on Wednesday.

US Representative Greg Casar, who led the letter, said it marked the first such collective call from multiple members of the US Congress for the release of Imran, who otherwise has had testy relations with Washington as a long-standing critic of US foreign policy.

Imran has been in jail since August 2023 and has faced dozens of cases after he was removed from the prime minister's position in April 2022 through a parliamentary vote of no confidence.

The PTI leader had blamed his ouster on a US conspiracy led by Assistant Secretary Bureau Of South And Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu and claimed that Pakistan's military was also involved.

Imran has denied all charges against him, while the party has said that more than 200 cases against him are politically motivated.

The pending cases against him mostly pertain to the May 9 violence. Imran has denied responsibility and has been acquitted or granted bail in many cases.

A UN human rights working group said in July that Imran's detention violated international law.

The US and Pakistani military both had denied any involvement in Imran Khan's ouster, calling his removal a democratic process.

US citizens are just an excuse, the main purpose was to meet Imran Khan, and maybe strike a deal. How many U-turns will Imran Khan take?

US delegation visits Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi

A three-member delegation from the US Embassy visited Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi on Friday, where they were granted consular access to three detained American citizens.

The visit included meetings with individuals held under the Foreign Act, according to jail sources.

The delegation met with detainees Abid Malik, Sadiqa Saeed, and Alex Pleado in the office of the Additional Superintendent, a meeting that lasted approximately one hour.

Members of the US delegation included Irfan Jan, Mike Murphy, and Raheel Javed.

Following their meetings, the delegation departed from Adiala Jail.

The meeting took place days two days after the Biden administration confirmed that it received a letter from more than 60 United States (US) Congress members urging the White House to advocate for the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan who is coincidently also jailed in the same prison.

On Tuesday, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller confirmed the letter’s receipt during a briefing and stated that the administration would “respond in due course.”

The letter, led by prominent Congress members such as Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, called on President Biden to secure guarantees from Pakistani authorities for Imran’s safety in custody.

Miller further noted that the US supports a “sustained democracy” in Pakistan, adding that a recent meeting between US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy and Human Rights Monica Jacobson and Pakistan’s Human Rights Secretary in Islamabad focused on fundamental rights and freedoms.

The spokesperson declined to comment on claims that the release of Khan’s wife and sisters from detention was linked to US involvement, stating only that discussions covered “support for a vibrant civil society and strong democratic institutions.”

Yesterday, a coalition of 160 parliamentarians expressed strong discontent over a recent letter from 62 US Congressmen, calling for a re-evaluation of the US commentary on Pakistan's political dynamics and urging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to address perceived external interference

In their letter to the prime minister, the lawmakers criticised the US legislators for what they deemed a skewed view of Pakistan's domestic politics.

They argued that the letter exaggerates a political narrative that primarily serves the interests of a single political party, namely Imran Khan's PTI. The parliamentarians contend that this portrayal undermines the integrity of Pakistan's state institutions and other political entities.

While acknowledging the US Congressmen's rights to political opinion and free speech, the Pakistani lawmakers emphasized that their perspectives allegedly appear to be influenced by disinformation propagated by Imran's supporters.

They called for a clearer distinction between facts and fiction and urged the US legislators to critically assess the motives behind such narratives.

"We, as parliamentarians consider ourselves duty-bound to inform the respected members of Congress through the honourable Prime Minister," they stated, "to separate facts from fiction and critically view the political motives behind the campaign to discredit credible political process in Pakistan and undermine its democratic institutions."

Could Trump's return free Imran Khan? US State Dept dismisses Khosa's claim

The United States has reiterated its non-involvement in Pakistan’s internal politics, dismissing suggestions that former prime minister Imran Khan’s legal troubles are linked to American influence.

Responding to a journalist's inquiry about claims from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Latif Khosa, who suggested that former US President Donald Trump’s return to office could lead to Khan’s release, State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller said that Imran's legal situation is a matter for Pakistan’s judiciary.

Miller added that the US has no role in influencing Pakistan's domestic political landscape.

This statement followed a query about a letter reportedly signed by 60 US lawmakers urging President Joe Biden to advocate for ImranKhan’s release, which some social media sources have attributed to "Jewish lobbying."

Addressing these claims, Miller noted that such assertions are circulating online and emphasised that any discourse involving US officials or lawmakers should refrain from mentioning personal religious or sexual identities.

Miller firmly stated, "We have said multiple times that former Prime Minister Imran Khan's removal and subsequent legal matters are for Pakistan’s judiciary to resolve."

He also responded to queries regarding PTI leader Khosa’s claims that US diplomat Donald Lu had conspired in Khan’s ouster. Miller rejected these accusations, reiterating that the US had no part in Khan's dismissal and that any such allegations are baseless.

"The people of Pakistan have the responsibility to determine their political future within the framework of their constitution and laws," Miller said, adding that the State Department has maintained this stance consistently.

Imran Khan to stay in Pakistan after his release, says Barrister Saif

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advisor for Information Barrister Saif stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan would reside in Pakistan after his release.

In his statement, he berated political opponents, saying Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Zardari and Benazir went abroad after the deal.

Barrister Saif said that people accusing PTI for the deal themselves went abroad after closing the deal.

PTI founder Imran Khan would stay in his home country among his people, Bushra Bibi also residing in Pakistan after her release, he stressed.

Barrister Saif also claimed that PTI founder Imran Khan never looted public money and made palaces abroad.

“People who made deals are living in luxury palaces abroad and having lavish lifestyles,” he criticized those who alleged the PTI of making deals.

He asked the government to clarify whom the PTI made a deal with as the government itself was taking the office.
