Anyone who follows Indian cricket knows that after Yuvraj, Rohit, Kohli if any youngster has the flair and natural ability of the same caliber if not more it is Lokesh Rahul.

When he is in form, he looks, walks and bats like THE best in the world.

He has class.

He has raw power.

Only thing he lacks is consistency. It is time he must claim the spot and be the man he was destined to be for Indian cricket.

Well just around 2015 i used to see him in SRH side and think he is not made for t20s but he has improved alot in LOIs though i feel he isn't same test player because of it.

He can be the all format player for India and take the baton from Kohli as the next batting superstar of India.

Didn't watch the match but I had to check the scorecard after watching some of threads of Rahul bumped and geez, 51(16) looks carnage. It seems he really flayed the attack.

At 36,Yuvraj is no longer a youngster. He doesn't have any flair left and his `natural ability` has ceased to exist.

As for Rahul, I think the problem is more with his fitness. He plays two games and sits out of the following three due to injury.

Know your role.

Yuvi was the first talent of the 21st century for India.

Then came the Hit man.

Then Kohli.

And now it has to be Lokesh Rahul. He must claim his spot. Kill the child and let the man be born.

He got to 51 in 13 deliveries.

He bullied Boult, Mishra, Shami to get there all 3 of whom are well respected bowlers and no clowns with the ball.

Did we watch the same game? commentary sums it up pretty well. Bunch of top edges and flukes there

He needs to open when Sharma runs out of Gas for India

There is some feud between KOhli and Rahul something we will never know. RCB didn't pick him. Kohli consistently rested him citing various reasons. He made sure Rahul feels insecure. That is why KLR was always nervous even against ordinary opposition. They better settle between themselves in the interest of country.

I think Kohli has issues with Rahul. He literally got nowhere as much chance as other young batsmen are getting. Given that he is very talented and has all-round ability, he rather deserves to have more shout than other.

And again in IPL, why would you leave an Indian young batsmen who is touted as next great thing and replace him with some other players?

You can do that with foreign players because of the overseas limit, injury and other reasons but not an Indian player.

I don't see any reason to let go Rahul and paid money for mandeep and sarfaraz. That's I have been telling, Kohli is one of the dumbest captains I have ever seen.

Rahul leaving RCB is my heartbreak of IPL and lost interest in it! I think this was the season where he would have got that understanding with Kohli, not just that it was a chance for RCB to win and also Rahul getting into mainstream national side! I think Kohli, Rohit & Shastri have issues with him (Rohit is understandable but it bamboozles to see Kohli & Shastri behave like this!)

KL Rahul is like a typical Chinese product, 'chale to chand tak, nahi to shaam tak'.
He has all that talent that can make him legendary batsman of his era but surely something is missing. Now its been 3 years since he made his debut but has played only handful games and still not permanent member of side in any format.
Management is also not treating him well as he is always seems to be forgotten man. FTB like Rohit has given so many chances by management but someone skilled player like KL is still warming the bench..Hope we will not waste this gem.

Kohli is not a good t20 captain. How many ipl he has captained now and never won? Rahul is a big talent and I can't believe he didn't play much for rcb. I hope against rcb Rahul makes .

After Rohit's underwhelming campaign in the CT last year (along with CT 13 and WC 15) it was only right for Lokesh Rahul to be given a chance to open with Dhawan right after the tournament.

Lokesh Rahul > Rohit Sharma

Are you just making this up ?
if anything every one was raving about how he played proper cricketing shots . That innings was as clean as it can get .

India need to back him in all 3 formats. The constant chopping and changing of his position isn't helping him as well. He had the temperament and the shots, he just needs game time.

He is on his way to become the greatest batsman in the world.

KL is probably the most talented batsman in Indian team. But talent alone will not bring success.

I rate him ahead of the likes of Rohit and Dhawan. But Rohit has that extra gear that not even Rahul possesses. But it does not come too often.

KL has everything to be the next Kohli, if not better than him. He needs to do lot more hard work and of course some luck to achieve that.

Rohit's extra gear comes once in a blue moon and he is dead chicken if the opening bowlers could get some horizontal movement. He eats up so many deliveries upfront which is sacrilege on today's roads.I would replace him with Rahul.

#4 spot in odi lineup is up there for grabbing..just a matter of tym for KL to make it his own
Rohit, dhawan, kohli, kl...enviable lineup for any opponent team

Lucky has that gear too.

KL has that extra gear which Rohit has.

He is as explosive as it gets.

He had to curb his instincts a lot during the latter stages of IPL because Kings XI were fully dependent on him. The first part of IPL, he was smashing everything from the get go.

When Rohit goes to that extra gear mode, he can stay there for a long time unlike others. That I will give it to him.

I think we haven't seen him in difficult conditions yet so let's bring a little hype down. He was looking clue less in south africa (i know it happens with most players) but if he proves himself in tough conditions then he will be surely bigger player than kohli for me.

Aus 2017 series.

He was the best bat from our side even ahead of Pujara (who is a beast in SC).

Goot to see you my little brother.

Rohit took many years to unleash the beast inside him.

Rahul shows the glimpses of an even bigger beast that lives deep inside him.

Reminds me of Neo asking Morpheus if he would be able to dodge bullets once he is ready in the Matrix to which Morphy replies with a smile that when Neo is ready he won't even have to.

That would be me telling any critic of Lokey right now.

When he is ready he wont just be another Rohit Sharma on 5th gear but much more than you could ever imagine.

Peam Rahul will demolish Lara's 400 record inside 5 sessions of test cricket.

I think he can do it in 2 sessions. This guy is a beast.

He seriously needs to play. I would want him to open but I know Kohli loves Rohit and Dhawan together.

Thank you FC. Nice to see you too.

KL Rahul is something else. I remember watching him bat in 2016 series in WI and felt this guy had the ability to humiliate other bats. While others were batting carefully, he was just so effortless and batting on another planet.

Then came the T20 match in USA and he scored an outrageous 100 batting at 4 chasing 250 runs, almost winning us a lost match.

Then came the 2017 series which honestly we would have lost without him.

Then IPL (where he changed his role according to the needs of his team). Wow.

Personally speaking, never has a batsman since Tendulkar, captured my imagination like Rahul has done. Yes, Kohli is clinical but he doesn't have the "thrill" quotient that Tendulkar and now Rahul possess.

I get so nervous when Rahul bats and its so reminiscent of the late 90s when I used to watch Tendulkar bat. The nervousness is present because their wickets are so damn valuable. I kid you not, I tuned in to the Ireland series just to watch Rahul bat and then switched off the stream once he was gone. Haha.

When you mentioned about 400 in 5 sessions I was a bit skeptical. But upon thinking, it's not an impossible feat.

Modern pitches. Modern mindset. 80-100 in a session is possible. KL has the ability to score daddy hundreds.

So why not. Let's hope he does.

For now, I hope he has a great England ODI & test tour. Reg tests, the only issue I see with him is that he has these periods (like the NZ home series 2016) where he plays away from his body too much and gives away his wicket while looking like a million bucks. As long as he avoids that, he is going to pile on the runs in England.

Trust me you're not alone in feeling that. When on song he comes across as some sort of a batting God. Very dangerous player. We are going to witness some knocks from him which will probably never be forgotten. He is already the biggest threat to Lara's 400 record. He can not only get there but can get there in a style people will forget Lara.

I loved how you connected that scene from Matrix. I mean it's just so fascinating how different people perceive Rahul's skill and the his current situation. Seeing Rahul play fearless cricket especially from this year's IPL, I kinda started relating his game to my favorite words from Fight Club! That goes something like this " “I let go. Lost in oblivion. Dark and silent and complete. I found freedom. Losing all hope is freedom." Everytime I see how Kohli killed this lad's confidence by ignoring him, my blood boils and the very few opportunities he gets and proves the world what he is by despite knowing he has no more hopes in Kohli's selections. I know this might sound kinda deep, but these are the exact words that resonate in my mind for as long as I see Rahul's cricket since 2018 IPL.

Kohli is threatened by an exuberant and highly talented young batsman who can potentially overtake his position down the road.

Nothing new except age old power dynamics playing their part here.

Babar Azam is ranked #2 in ODIs and #1 in T20s....

Shhh. We must only talk in hypotheticals and talent potential. Rankings and stats aren't good enough to support the fact that Babar is a great player:ghalib

In all seriousness, Babar is more consistent than Rahul, even if Rahul might be more flamboyant.

I don't think Rahul is going to play like Sehwag in Tests unless the situation really demands it. He's more of a consolidating kind of player in the longer format while Sehwag never distinguishes between Tests and ODIs. Rahul's T20 game is distinct from his Test game.

He is the most talented batsmen since AB. Can play as per the team demands and switch gears accordingly.

Tough conditions, good bowling attack, match situation dont matter to him. He fits in all bill.

It is a joy to watch KL Rahul bat right now. Not since Tendulkar has a player made you feel like this.

Scintillating strokeplay.

He has so much class and power punch.

He seems like the reincarnation of Sachin. Never seen a player combine power with class like this since Sachin.

He is now showing off and making a point to Virat Kohli.

He si the best batsman in this side now, officially.

He might be talented and.dynamic but don't think he has the work.discipline of Sachin or Kohli.
Seeing him getting injured soon.

Listen. Rahul Dravid once said Rahul is one of the most technically correct batsmen and if Dravid says it, Kohli isn't a fool to ignore it.

And people talking about power dynamics are just talking bakwaas. Thanks to IPL, all Indian players earn very well and can afford not to be petty.

KL Rahul to me is the best batsman in Indian team. Its about time he asserts himself at the highest level.

The talent has always been there. He has found some consistency too now. Has excellent technique to defend as well as play ridiculous shots and accelerate at will.

By world cup next year, teams will be worried more about Rahul. Not Rohit or Dhawan or Kohli.

In terms of talent and impact
KL Rahul > Kohli > Dhawan >> Rohit.

Carrying his great IPL form to international cricket. Runs vs Ireland, runs now. Hope he continues to pile on the runs across formats. We need a young batsman to be a batting star by 2019 WC . Rahul has evetything required to be that star. Should be playing every single game he can over next 10-11 months.

With Raina playing well and Dinesh as back up, this indian team is shaping well for world cup... Bit worried for Bhuvi though...

BK had an off day. He has been brilliant in IPL and T20's in general. He is mentally very tough and will bounce back.

Already a fan of him. I get the same thrill with his batting which used to get from Tendulkar.

Never got the same thrill from Kohli, although he will still become a legendary player but I will pay to watch Rahul over him.

All I hope is shastri and Kohli show some guts and drop Pujara for Rahul for upcoming test matches in England

Brilliant knock from Rahul, though I'm not seeing the comparison with Kohli who is a genius and has fine tuned his game to millimeters of precision. Not even Tendulkar had such precision.

That's a factor of experience. And yes, Tendulkar's movements in the crease were even more economical and precise than Kohli, improbably enough.

Is KL Rahul even serious about his cricket?

He is struggling big time in the test series and yet he is busy doing photo shoots while he is should be sweating it out in the nets to rectify his shortcomings. He should learn from his captain. Kohli was a walking wicket in England in 2014 and he was endlessly mocked for it. And now he is toying with the English bowling attack.

It would be a massive loss to Indian cricket if he ends up like Vinod Kambli.

I doubt he will make it big despite so much talent.. compeition is growing for Prithvi Shaw , Shubman Gill and other under 19 lads are pushing for place in team india. They are equally talented and even younger.

Rahul has become a T20 specialist now.

He cannot play the moving ball. Surprisingly he is also struggling in ODI's on flat pitches.

Agreed that Shaw looks all set to take his place in Test lineup very soon.

Must admit I was wrong on him. There is a massive deficiency in his tecnique and looks like a FTB to me.

This guy is too obsessed with social media, needs to get serious quick or will waste himself.

Yes ,sadly we need him in slips for next two tests, but if he flops should drop him.

I know these are old posts but I had to reply to this.

I think you guys didn't fully understand the the retention system rules for IPL 11.

It was not possible for RCB to retain KL.

The purse for retention was 33 cr if a team retained 3 players and 21 cr if it retained 2 players.

With Kohli taking 17 cr and ABD taking 11 cr that was already 28 cr. Which means they had to retain a 3rd player so as to have a total retention allowance of 33 cr.

So 33-28 cr = 4 cr. They might have offered 4 cr to KL. But KL obviously knew that if he went back to the auction he would fetch a lot more.

So RCB did what it had to do to obtain that 33 cr allowance by retaining an uncapped player (Sarfraz) because as per the rules, uncapped players reduced the least amount of money (3 cr) from the franchise's 80 cr player budget.

Unless KL Rahul decided to remain in RCB for 4 cr, there was nothing the team management could have done to retain him.

Have very little expectations from him in rest of English tour. Technique has been exposed badly. Australia might be kinder place for his style.

Just hope he can still give us 40-50 run opening partnership and keep catching well in next 2 tests

Would love to hear SIF's views on Rahul. He has been his biggest supporter so far.

Needs to perform now or be shown the door.
Kohli can't do it everytime, he needs support and a batsman of Rahul's class can't keep failing throughout the series.
