Watching the IPL in detail for the first time since 2008.

The Stadiums the BCCI and the Franchises have in place are absolutely world class. The Franchises themselves truly own the stadiums and do everything in their power to drive their fans to the stadiums and fan parks. The quality of the sound systems is also second to none where you can hear the music inspite of 100k people in the stadium roaring.

Granted the female cheerleader's might be a problem for the PCB but they could look into it without offending local cultural sensitivities. Surely they can arrange for male break back dancers to entertain the crowd. The PCB and the PSL is stagnating and not doing enough to keep the crowd engaged and entertained. Granted the PCB and the PSL franchises will not have the Budget that the BCCI and the IPL Franchises have but surely they can arrange for some of these things within the budgets they have or find sponsors to fund some of these things.

I will be honest brother, the quality of PSL broadcasting has gone worse from what it was few years ago. The dull stadiums, 1080p picture quality, dull commentary and lack of music/dj in the stadium makes it a poor viewing. PCB need to work on the entire production of their product.

I suspect the PCB cut corners and chose a cheaper production unit this time. The production costs of the PSL are apparently divided equally b/w the PCB and all the 6 Franchises. I would personally never want to compromise on Production quality. The response from the PCB this time was that there was nothing wrong with the production quality, it was the dusty dirty weather in Lahore, Multan and Pindi this year.

The first few games and the opening ceremony of IPL has been impressive till now.

Hardik getting booed by Ahmedabad where he had a crazy fan following for last 2 years has shown that fans are becoming brand loyal( team loyal) ...just like EPL has devoted Chelsea or MU fans.

Future of T20 looks good..at least at this franchise level.

Yeah, I saw a PSL game this year after ages. It was so bad - the stadium barely had any people, bad picture quality, no music, no known international faces barring one or two. I had better fun watching CPL, ILT20 and SA20.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) got off to a quick start, almost entirely thanks to Virat Kohli, in the powerplay. Kohli smashed 35 runs in 21 balls after being dropped off the second ball of the innings by Jonny Bairstow. RCB were 50/2 at the end of the powerplay while chasing a target of 177. While Kohli continued to bat aggressively and power RCB's chase, he hardly received sustained support from the other end. Kagiso Rabada and Harpreet Brar did most of the damage for the Kings in the middle overs. Eventually, Kohli himself perished after scoring 77 runs in 49 balls.

The stadium fell quiet for a while after Kohli's dismissal, but Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror brought Bengaluru roaring back in a match that turned out to be a thriller. The pair saw the hosts through to the end, with Karthik hitting the winning runs with a four, finishing unbeaten on 28 off 10 balls, while Lomror scored 16 in eight balls.

Earlier, Shashank Singh smashed 20 runs off the last over to push Punjab Kings' score to 176/6 in what was otherwise a subdued batting performance. Yash Dayal and Mohammed Siraj were the stars for RCB with the ball. Dayal returned figures of 1/23, while Siraj returned 2/26. RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bowl first. Punjab Kings lost opener Jonny Bairstow early to Mohammed Siraj. Captain Shikhar Dhawan tried to accelerate the scoring, but RCB did well to keep the batters in check and put pressure on PBKS in the first 10 overs. Dhawan was eventually dismissed for 44 off 37, while the dangerous Liam Livingstone fell for just 17 runs in 13 balls. Shashank then came in and made the difference in the last over.

Atleast pcb should come with innovations with cost effective solutions.Half empty stadiums and lack of pak superstars are the major issue.if akthar vs anwar ,akram vs afridi kind of stuff is happening ,then it will be interesting.

I caught a few highlights for the first time. The atmosphere and vibe were missing. Music, Announcement, catchy big screen slogans. The crowd and foreign player participation are the only things that are not controllable by PCB. But things like ground quality, pitch quality, and coverage quality are something they can address. One of the main reasons I loved Channel 9 coverage in the 90s was because of the lush green ground, great commentary, and great camera angles. Unlike India which has used 36 stadiums, PCB has only 4 or 5 stadiums to fix. They should have no excuse to enhance the viewer experience. As you said I enjoyed SA 20. Heck even MLC was very good to watch.

And then imagine PSL going head-to-head with IPL. Sharam say doob marna scene will be on.

PSL needs a thinking brain to revive itself for October window and come back with better production. Pakistan has a large cricket following and a little bit of genius can get the PSL back to it's glory days where it was genuinely the second-best league.

it is Chennai Super Kings vs Gujarat Titans coming up in a few hours from now. Who is going to win it?
I guess Chennai should have upper hand here.

CSK has great batting depth, extending all the way to number 10, and their bowlers are experts on slow, spin-friendly tracks at home.

GT will need to work hard to win the match.

Gaikwad is a proper stat padder to hide behind dominant partners such as Jaiswal,Rachin etc

Dube has reinvented himself with CSK. He has done enough to warrant a place in the Indian T20 squad. But who will get dropped for him?

Indian selectors do not have an easy job.

I amazed by the support in the stadiums. 40k tonight, sell out on a Monday night at RCB and 80k for GT on Sunday night.

I am sure the tv audience is huge too. How does India internationals compete with this?

World cup final attendance 92000
IPL final attendance 105000

World T20, 2022 played infront of empty stadium mostly. Time to scrap international T20. League T20 is way more successful than international T20.

The bowling was poor, the pace bowlers were awful

What is the point when we managed to have a proper attack in the World Cup whereas Pakistani bowlers were smashed all around the park?

It's not like the PSL pace bowling was any good apart from Naseem.

At this rate, even a Ind-Aus or Ind-Eng cannot compete with IPL. It is almost unfair!

Will be interesting to see what numbers were garnered in the Ind-Eng 5 test series. A series by the way, that was very interesting.

But what can compete with this!

IPL has a dedicated and separate fan base. The fan base is also more wholesome in the sense that a lot more women and children are involved. I know a bunch of my family members who hardly discuss cricket apart from during world cups, actually spend a lot of time discussing and forwarding videos during IPL in our WhatsApp groups. Most cities where the IPL happens like BLR, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Ahmadabad are also experiencing a once in a lifetime economic boom. The number of people who are higher middle class in these cities rival a lot of major metropolitan cities. So, they will bring in lot of money.

Last time i went to an IPL match in BLR, couple of years back, people were happy to spend tens of thousands on food and drinks in drinks. Outside there are bunch of sports bars close by where people will causally drop 25k a night to have a blast with friends. Our bill after a sports bar night out for six of us 1.4Lakh and we were not even spending that much. They have some great food, excellent booze and unbelievable atmosphere. it's crazy how much money people spend there in BLR. Pub culture is not that in Chennai, but still people spend a lot of money there in the stadiums.

Most International matches will struggle to match the same kind of rivalry. May be Pak, Aus matches. that's about it. But the IPL is like a carnival. If WC happens after IPL, it will pale in comparison.

Not to mention all the banter between Indians even tough they belong to the same city, they have loyalties to some other cities.

That banter can get toxic happened to me during college years of season 1, I have maintained my sanity ever since.

I would still blame RCB fans for that though.

What does this have to do with poor, bowling standard I observed in the IPL

Sai Sudarshan is not a T20 player :facepalm

Why Gujarat plays him at no.3? Sucks all the momentum.

His technically correct batting is not required in this format. Sudarshan bhai will make KL Rahul proud with his tuk tuk batting.

All the top bowlers in world cricket Starc/Rabada/Cummins/Curran/Bumrah/Rashid Khan/Zampa/Ashwin ... etc are all playing. Batting is that good.
Batting is good but some of the bowling is barely county level. There are some top Bowlers, Bumrah, Jadeja, RK and some others but on average 3 of the guys on each team are to put it mildly, pretty basic

Can anyone pls tell me what is the role of MS Dhoni in the team? He doesn't bat, no longer the captain...why don't he retire and vacate the spot for someone younger?

Still remember how he was adamant to drop all seniors when he was a young captain in Indian side. Its a shame that he don't follow the same principles for himself.

Almost all international bowling are like that. If anythign lot of them are way worse.

dropped a regulation catch, cost them nothing, then takes this beauty

It's Rachin's world and we're just living in it

Looks like umpire will raise finger anything CSK appeals for.

Blatant cheating by Chennai against innocent Gujju's

:srini

I remember the time when a screen first came to Chennai stadium, it was all the discussion in school, I think Jayalalitha who brought it.

And now after all these years to see such vibrant crowd is beautiful to see.

lol Even me as a CSK fan don’t mind a new team winning except RCB ofcourse.

You are comparing the Indian team with the IPL, lol. IPL is not a national team, and MSD is no longer representing the nation. His presence brings more commercials, a larger fan base, and more following to CSK. It's up to the franchise management how long they want to continue with him. MSD is a cash cow for CSK; he has a cult-like mass following, and his presence helps them gain more viewership. Did anyone force you to watch or buy a ticket for a CSK match? No, you have no right to question MSD as long as the management backs him.:srt

You don't need to wish for RCB's failure. They will take care of it themselves
After CSK, my next favorite team is RCB. Hopefully, they will win this season. Although RCB hasn't won a single trophy, they make profits every year like CSK and MI. They have a cult fan base, probably one of the biggest fan base franchises among the top three.

He does a bit of captaincy in the background as well. I think he will assist Gaikwad transition. That is probably his main role.

Chennai Super Kings' batters dazzled before their bowlers ran riot to choke Gujarat Titans in a comprehensive 63-run victory in their second IPL match on Tuesday. Ruturaj Gaikwad's team has covered all its bases, and this was evident as Rachin Ravindra set the stage with a brisk 20-ball-46. This platform allowed Shivam Dube to unleash his beast mode, scoring a rapid 23-ball-51. In the midst of the fireworks, Gaikwad himself contributed a balanced 36-ball-46. With Chennai posting a formidable 206 for 6, it was a Herculean total in every sense.

In response, Gujarat Titans struggled to keep up, managing only 143/8. Chennai's bowlers, led by Chahar (2/28 in 4 overs), Mustafizur Rahman (2/30 in 4 overs), Tushar Deshpande (2/21), and Matheesha Pathirana (1/29 in 4 overs), systematically tightened the noose on the Titans' batting unit, ensuring their victory.

RCB has handsdown the most passionate fanbase.

Impressive variety in the CSK bowling i.e. Mustafiz, Patheerana, Mohit Sharma.
