Before Mohsin Naqvi became the PCB chairman our cricket stadiums were nowhere near international standards. They were outdated and no one really thought about upgrading them. But now we have to give credit where it’s due. Under his leadership the renovations at stadiums like Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and National Stadium in Karachi have been fantastic.

Gaddafi Stadium has seen some major changes. They have added new floodlights, better seating and huge screens for replays. What's amazing is that all of this was done in just record 110 days!

National Stadium in Karachi has also been revamped with new VIP boxes, media areas and family zones. It’s much better now and it’s clear that these improvements were made with international events in mind.

Of course while these changes are great we still need bigger infrastructure to meet the growing demands. But I think we should all appreciate what’s been done so far. Mohsin Naqvi really deserves credit for taking action and improving our cricket stadiums.

nothing to give credit for. Its a project failiure.

Hosting of this event was given to us 3 years back, they should had made these preparations for Asia Cup.

This is not even complete work. What actually happened was because of political instability, they started the work very late, than they allocated major funds and resources to Gadaffi stadium. Nothing was left for National Stadium Karachi or Pindi.

Think about this, Pindi stadium had no seats and Gadaffi stadium already had seats. Guess what they did? Gave new seats to Gadaffi stadium and moved the old seats to Pindi stadium.

Currently, they couldn't add a roof at Gadaffi Stadium and couldnt build the wall that would cover the stands underneath area. The stadium would had looked much better if the area underneath the stands were converted into an indoor area.

National Stadium has a crappy view due to excessive steel structures and a roof that blocks view further. They also didnt built the trench their as the focus was again again Gadaffi.

Meanwhile, Pindi Stadium got old chairs of Gaddaffi and thats it. No other upgradation of building a stand or demolishing the foodstreet that exists and bring in some parking.

Also, they had made plans to build a Stadium in Islamabad for this event, that didnt happen. Sialkot Stadium was also suppose to be renovated, they ended up demolishing that stadium and didnt bother to work on it again.

Even after all this work, can we claim Gadaffi stadium to be amongst the worlds good stadiums? Nope. In Mumbai, their is a stadium called Braboune Stadium, has more seating capacity than all of our stadiums.

They ended up renovating their own office with this money.

The only thing we needed was parking, better view (by removing the fence), chairs in Pindi Stadium, some roofing and proper restaurants and vendors that are open inside the perimeter of the stadium when matches go on.

They spent too much money on one stadium.

Only Pakistanis give credit to politicians for doing their jobs.

+1

People barely finish a badly planned, terribly executed basic job while they get salaries from our tax money & spend our tax money on the project

Pakistanis as a whole (not all but many)

Wah, kia baat hai sir ki. Kamal kaam kar dia. Credit is a must. Political differences aside, deserves so much credit, yada yada.

Until the moment we realize that this is our right & we deserve better these snake oil merchants & con artists will be controlling our lives.

"Transform" is a bit of an overstatement. Only one stadium has been given an actual facelift and even that does not look fully complete as per the blueprints/initial plans we saw, which also included a roof-like cover above the stands.

All in all, PCB has done a shoddy and poorly planned job. Especially in Karachi, which is apparently going to be complete one week before the start of the tournament. And it still looks remarkably ugly.

They have done the absolute bare minimum and I don't see why they should be applauded for that.

What’s credit? They rebuilt the stadium and still have placed camera stages in the sight lines of the spectators. Those giant screens are eye sores what could’ve been better integrated and the area used for more seating. The seats look cheap and flimsy. It’s 2025. At least get seats with armrests and cup holders if you want to sell concessions. That ditch is a massive problem and will be filled up after the first injury to a player.

This is a massive botched job.

Karachi just got a new building. How did they not get that done with more than enough time?

Naqvi is pocketing massive amounts of money from these botched projects.

Exactly, they should've gone for those leather-type sofas with built-in massage options, armrests, and individual mini screens for every seat instead of just having those big screens. That would've been a much better

This should have been started back in 2021 when Pakistan was granted the hosting rights for the Champions Trophy. At that time, we had two cricketers leading, Ramiz Raja and Imran Kha. but unfortunately, no action was taken. You can't blame Mohsin Naqvi, who's only been in office for less than a year, for the lack of earlier progress.

The trench is a good thing, and no one is gonna fall it it. They exists in India.

It's because of OPs political affiliations. He and others called this rush job bowl "stunning"

While ignoring the fact our chairman did nothing for 9 months before Nov when it came to renovation but his supporters will happily bash his predecessors.

Pakistani stadiums did not meet standards to hold ICC events. The upgrade was necessary.Mohsin Naqli doesn’t deserve any credit.

there are infact 2

Raipur Stadium and the famous Dharamshala stadium
Dharamshala stadium has stands built high up but not trench. Raipur I will cede to you on. It looks remarkably ugly in that stadium too. Honestly good architects should be able to incorporate security without eyesores or be able to hide them within the design. Also those stadiums stands are well built and clear sight lines everywhere.

I'm not against the idea that we renovated our stadiums. In fact every justification Naqvi gave to upgrade and renovate was correct and I agree with him. The implementation has been severely lacking.

I am sorry to say but even after this supposed “renovation” these stadiums look prehistoric and completely substandard.

Why can't you just praise something good for Pak for once without questioning political affiliations of anyone? Not everything needs to be seen from those lens. Pak didn't have cricket for a long time we should be happy that we are in this position.

Does anyone have a picture of the front? I’ve seen a lot of videos, and it looks amazing, but I just can’t seem to find a photo to post here.

As per reports:

The ICC has raised concerns over the installation of oversized sight screens at Karachi's National Stadium, which is set to host the opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025 between Pakistan and New Zealand.

The governing body is dissatisfied with the large sight screens as they obstruct the view for fans seated behind them. As a result, the ICC has formally instructed the PCB to offer refunds to affected ticket holders.

Yea, it looks terrible. They could’ve put the screens in the Intikhab Alam enclosure. There are no seats there, just concrete. Instead it’s an ugly screen stand in front of an enclosure with actual seats.

Lahore stadium is fine. It’s not a great stadium. But it’s getting us closer to modern times.

Also, the chairs added to Pindi and the renovation work there looks fine too. It gives us a small stadium with some old time charm.

But what the heck are they doing in Karachi?

I am sort of concerned about the state of construction.
With corruption in these boards, I hope they went for higher quality stuff and not some cheap stuff that can cause structural issues based on the speed of the remodel.

Only watching it on tv but there seems to be one major flaw in the design - there’s no roof covering for any of the stands! Obviously no one thought about the comfort of the spectators - it’s not as though it gets hot in Lahore!

I’m pretty sure the whole stadium used to have a roof since the 1996 World Cup development or at least the Imran Khan and Fazal Mahmood enclosures used to (even before the 1996 World Cup).

Are we going to get back to wedding tents held up by bamboo sticks 1980s style to provide some shade in the stadiums?

Should have asked imran to build a stadium in KPK when he was in power

As has been mentioned countless time by PCB the roof will be installed in the 2nd Phase
Plus at this time of the year the weather isn't that hot where you require roof.
Thats why pcb's first priority was to get the stadium ready for hosting matches

Ever saw Arbab Niaz Stadium? It is still the biggest cricket stadium even after this GSL rebuilt. The whole stadium got rebuilt, roof got eliminated and stadium capacity remained the same. Only Naqvi can do such joke of work.

A stadium nobody really cares about It, an international match will never be held there due to the terrorist activities going on in that area. You be lucky if you get a psl game there never mind international. And it looks ugly you can't even get the colour combo right multiple colour chairs wth is that it's not the 80's anymore

Capacity is gone up to 35k and roof will go on after CT.

Why didn't they add in floodlights at ANS?

The stadium in Islamabad will be build from scratch so that will be high quality 50k+ seater.

Roof should had been made ready for the event. PCB is at fault here. Priority should had been Asia cup not CHampions trophy.

The second phase is not going to come. Pakistan has PSL afterwards and our new Budget comes in June-July. PCB has used up all funds, so the only way they will make a roof if PCB is willing to spend its own money.

PCB is lieing too much by giving this phase 2 drama. Alot of people are not even aware of the Sialkot Stadium Fiasco the PCB made, they are hushed up about it.

Lahore is very hot, and by the time PSL takes place the weather will not be bearable for fans there, especially for day matches.

There is no point making the stadium issue a political issue and defending it due to a political party.

Every stadium work that has been done in Pakistan is a joke. Whether its KPK, Sindh or Punjab.

Nothing to feel proud about or has to be defended.

Did Naqvi inaugurate the Karachi stadium today as he had stated before? Or is that still not finished?

Basically , as usual , PCB and Naqvi was sleeping until 117 days ago, CT was awarded years ago but Naqvi and co were busy in other activities against their own citizens and suddenly woke up when 117 were left for CT, pathetic.

Controversial call but who’s with me on Mohsin Naqvi for future PM of Pakistan?

This might be the perfect time to rename the stadium to Mohsin Naqvi Cricket Stadium given he gave his heart, soul and blood to this.

why not he deserves to be rewarded for his performance at D-Chowk, in any civilized country Naqvi would have been behind the bar.

Rumors that tickets of Imran Khan enclosure at GSL are not sold on priority, certainly there is motive behind this

National Stadium Karachi Ready for Champions Trophy

Following Gaddafi Stadium, National Stadium Karachi is now fully prepared to host the Champions Trophy.

Under PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s direct supervision and the tireless efforts of workers, the renovation was completed in just 120 days. The grand reopening will take place tomorrow evening with a vibrant ceremony featuring performances by renowned singers Ali Zafar, Shafqat Amanat Ali, and Sahir Ali Bagga. The event will also include a spectacular fireworks and light show, with free entry for the public.

Renovation work began on September 28, and by January 31, the transformation was complete. The pavilion building was entirely rebuilt, new seats were installed in all enclosures, and modern LED lights, upgraded score screens, and grills were added. For a better viewing experience, barriers obstructing sightlines have been removed.

Additional enhancements include refurbished hospitality boxes, a newly constructed ring road, and a pedestrian bridge.

Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed his appreciation for the hardworking laborers who contributed to the project, acknowledging the dedication of FWO, NESPAK, contractors, and the entire PCB team. Basically , as usual , PCB and Naqvi was sleeping until 117 days ago, CT was awarded years ago but Naqvi and co were busy in other activities against their own citizens and suddenly woke up when 117 were left for CT, pathetic.
CT was awarded under the leadership of ramiz and imran khan were they sleeping for a year and half? Both incompetent. Naqvi being in the set up for a year actually saved pakistans face or CT would be shifted out

The moment you saw it, this is the first thing that came to your mind. Anyone paying money to see any match in National Stadium is frankly, being ripped off. Probably the worst stadium in terms of fan experience. All they have done is create a new building, where seats cost an arm and a leg.

The money allocated for the upgrading of GS was huge one , had it spent honestly , a new stadium of 75K capacity could have been built. All they did some facelifting and rest of the money ended up ??? . Well, what else you expected from this gang of corrupt people .

Who allocated the money and who is accounting for how it’s spent?

Who designed this rubbish and colour combination? Is it a tribute to the truck drivers of Pakistan?
