He's the biggest reason for the India series loss alongside Nohit and Aus ka Boss, King Kohli.
 
He too deserved a bit of rest. Ideally should have been dropped but lack of quality and also the pressure of having someone who bowls long spells meant that his role was key to team India’s bowling plans.
 
I appreciate the effort.
But only as a 3rd or 4th bowler. Please. Going forward. Lion hearted effort. But sometimes it's not enough.
 
Good bowler but a 3rd or 4th bowler.

Lord's 2021 was him at his potential.

Last hurrah of the Ishant-Bumrah-Shami trio with Siraj as 4th.

That and Wanderers 2018 are two of my favourite matches. 4 fast bowlers. All good.

Need to let Akash, Prasidh, Harshit develop a bit.

Shami-Ishant-Umesh-Bhuvi also took some time.

Bumrah is a freak and GOAT material so an exception.
 
Rohit Sharma during the press conference today:

“Only Siraj is not there (among experienced players). We are not sure of Bumrah and so we picked a squad where we had options of players who can bowl up front and at the back end."

"If Bumrah is not there, we wanted Arshdeep to do it. That is where we felt Siraj's effectiveness comes down when he is not taking the new ball. It is unfortunate he is missing out but we had to get guys who can perform a certain role. I feel we have players who can bowl with new ball, bowl in the middle and at the end.”

Mohammed Siraj said red-ball cricket was his ‘life’ and representing India was his ‘biggest motivation’ on the sidelines of the 2025 Ranji Trophy match for Hyderabad against Vidarbha.

Siraj took a small break after the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where he bowled the most overs for India — despite dealing with injuries — and took the second-highest wickets after Jasprit Bumrah. He couldn’t match Bumrah in consistency in the series and a lack of support from the rest of the bowling lineup increased his workload, affecting his impact and leading to criticism in media.

“Playing for Hyderabad after so many years felt very good. It was great playing with some of my friends," Siraj told Sportstar. “Red-ball cricket is my life and I will do anything to play it. I have always said Test cricket is my everything. When I get the red ball in hand, I enjoy it a lot. I don’t think about my performance too. You can see I bowl long spells. That is because I love this format so much," he added.

Siraj also supported the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s decision to make featuring in domestic cricket mandatory for international stars.

“When you are free or available as a player, you have to take time out to represent your State. The youngsters in the team will be motivated by your presence. They will get a boost too, sharing dressing rooms with Virat bhai and Rohit bhai. It is a good sign for the new generation," he said.

“As a human being, of course, you need some rest from time to time. But when you have the ball in hand and you are representing your country, you just run in and bowl. Your biggest motivation is playing for the nation. This has been your dream since childhood, so when you get the opportunity, you will want to grab it. I just enjoy the fact that I’m realising my dream of playing for India," he added.

Siraj picked up four wickets in the match and also hit a few good boundaries but Hyderabad lost by 58 runs.

Despite being India’s highest ODI wicket-taker since 2022, Siraj has been left out of the squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy and the three-match series against England. Unless there are any injury-enforced changes, he’ll be next seen in action in the IPL for his new team, Gujarat Titans.

I would take Bumrah, Siraj, Arshdeep (played county cricket), Akashdeep, Thakur , Prasidh.

Kuldeep should be the lone spinner, Jadeja and Sundar as spin allrounders.

Brilliant by Siraj. When he gets it right he is very good and hard to handle. Fantastic spell on a flat wicket. Harry Brook agreed that Siraj and Akashdeep got more of the wicket than English bowlers did. I am disappointed with Prasidh though. He needs to be dropped.

Mr 100% effort for sure.

Playing for India means something for this brother. You can always see it in his attitude while playing for India. Loves every second of it and gives his everything for the nation. Sometimes it’s not good enough but when he gets it right he’s a quality pacer.

Bowled too many overs
We badly missed shami

We would have wiped out Aus if shami played in bgt along with gill at 4 instead of opening. Also jurel who got unfairly dropped after one game

Good on Indian TM to keep persisting with Siraj despite some poor performances. This is how you develop a player and ofcourse Siraj does have right attitude as well.

Now time to also keep an eye on his workload management.

After this series, he should get atleast 2 to 3 months of rest.He deserves it .Even though he bowled quite a trash few times, he was persistent and lion hearted.
 
It seems like he has been bowling forever for India but only has 118 wickets.

I believe Siraj will end his career with similiar stats as Umesh yadav. Something like 60-65 tests and around 180-190 wkts. It will not look anything spectacular but those who saw him will remember that he was the shire horse for India throughout the 2020s.

Ya.. He was doing the workhorse role. But when in rhythm he is also a strike option.
 
A workhorse. It's sad that his workload doesn't get noticed enough by Indian management.

Him and shami are somewhat similar but peak shami was truly special. Better than Hazlewood

Siraj isn’t the same with bumrah weirdly but without he steps up lol

PRobably enjoys the role of leading the attack. There is no designated role as such. YOu should do well regardless like how Anderson and Broad did not show any dip in performance. When INdia was at their peak with fast bowling Ishant, Shami, BUmrah worked as a unit. There was no dip any of their performance. If anything Ishant became better once he started bowling with Bumrah.
 
Once again doing a Broad in England. When he's switched on and in rhythm, he bowls like he's the No.1 bowler in the world. You just need to learn to put up with his poor or average days. It's like backing an exciting batsman who plays risky cricket. If you can do that for batsmen, you should be able to do it with bowlers.
 
Pakistanis have no clue as usual about Indian cricket. There hasn't even been a murmur about religion ever being an issue. Caste is a bigger deal and casual racism seems to be commonplace from the higher castes.

Which year is this brother? How many of them are still playing?

And the post Akhtar 3 are good but don't have the CV of Zaheer, Shami and Siraj who have won ICC trophies AS WELL as series in SENA in tests.

They are Irfan PAthan level.

Actually the purple patch was Pakistan's.

Now that cricket has become professional, both countries have reached their true standard.

He will be inconsistent. You just have to put up with it. He's been this way his whole career. Spells of brilliance and droughts. He is like Broad. Will not be a GOAT. But will end his career with massive respect and having created colorful memorable moments. He is the bowling equivalent of a Sehwag or a VVS.
