It was a sane decision to end protest because Nani & Mason had planned something evil. Let's see how media's responds about the barbarism today, as reporters were beaten and arrested also.

The PTI announced new protest dates on Saturday as its demonstrations in Rawalpindi came to an end after a day of clashes with the police

The Rawalpindi police blocked the entry and points of the garrison city in an attempt to prevent PTI workers from gathering for a protest at Liaquat Bagh. The party had announced Liaquat Bagh as the venue for the protest, which was earlier planned to be a rally. However, the PTI founder changed the decision, saying that the government would not allow his party to hold the event in the city and designate a venue in the suburbs.

In an attempt to thwart PTI’s protest, the provincial government banned all public gatherings and stationed paramilitary forces in Rawalpindi.

PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram delivered a video statement felicitating party workers for coming out to the protest.

“I want to congratulate every PTI leader, worker, and stakeholder who made it to Liaquat Bagh today,” Waqas said. He praised them for demonstrating in the face of police shelling and “straight firing” and for moving containers and barriers.

He announced that there would be large protests in Multan, Mianwali and Faisalabad on October 2. “It is your duty to come out,” Waqas said.

Over 100 rounded up as police contain PTI protest

RAWALPINDI: As PTI supporters took to the streets to converge on Liaquat Bagh for their demonstration, Punjab police arrested over 110 supporters, including party leaders, after clashes while the smell of teargas used to disperse the protesters permeated the air.

The garrison town remained ‘under virtual siege’ on Saturday, with containers placed on every route leading to the protest site as well as Murree Road, which passes through the heart of the city.

On more than 25 ‘blocking points’, contingents of the anti-riot police armed with teargas grenades and rubber bullets were stationed to stop the PTI protesters. In total, more than 4,200 police officials were deployed to counter the demonstration. A senior police official said PTI leaders, including Seemabia Tahir, were also detained and cases against them were being registered.

In the afternoon, PTI officials started moving towards Liaquat Bagh in small groups. The party activists assembled in narrow streets along the road using the densely populated neighbourhoods as a cover but attempts to occupy Murree Road were repulsed by the police.

The workers then retaliated by pelting the police with stones, and the latter responded with teargas and baton-charge to push them back. The PTI workers as they retreated towards the streets hurled more rocks at the police amid intense teargas shelling.

After some time, the PTI workers gathered on College Road, which had been blocked with a container. However, their attempts to remove the container were not fruitful as the police again pushed them back using teargas.

Besides small groups led by local leaders, Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema and Uzma Khan before the sunset appeared near Marrir Chowk on their way back from Adiala Jail but the police promptly used teargas to disperse them. A group of the PTI legal wing gathered at the Quaid-i-Azam Hall in the Rawalpindi district courts in the afternoon, but the police dispersed them as well.

This hide-and-seek between the police and the party supporters continued late into the evening and only ended after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur called off the protest.

Terrorism case filed against Gandapur, incarcerated Imran Khan in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - A terrorism case has been registered against incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in connection with protests and vandalism in Rawalpindi.

The case was filed at New Town police station by Sub-Inspector Umar Siddique.

The charges included interference in government operations, rioting, and an attack on a government vehicle with a petrol bomb, along with provisions related to conspiracy to commit vandalism.

The FIR named Imran Khan, Ali Amin Gandapur, and 45 other leaders and activists.

According to the FIR, the accused obstructed public access by burning tires and clothes, creating difficulties for citizens.

It also stated that they engaged in arson and stone-throwing, making it challenging for police personnel to protect themselves.

Police officials reported that five suspects were arrested at the scene, including Khalil, Imran, Sadaqat, Yaseen, and Tahir. A petrol bottle was recovered from the possession of the suspect Tahir.

The Rawalpindi police have registered cases against PTI leaders in connection with protests at Liaquat Bagh.

The cases were filed at four police stations: City, Waris Khan, New Town, and RA Bazaar. Over 100 leaders and activists, including Simabiah Tahir, MPA Asad Abbas, Ijaz Khan, and Amir Mughal, have been nominated in the FIRs.

The charges included terrorism, attempted murder, vandalism, destroying public and state property, and interference in government operations.

According to the FIR, PTI leaders and activists raised anti-government slogans, hurled stones at the police, and attacked with iron rods.

Several police vehicles, including that of the SP Rawal, were damaged, and one police officer sustained severe eye injury from glass.

The FIR also stated that the accused seized government firearms and fired them in the air, causing panic.

Police confirmed that cases have been registered, and raids were being conducted to apprehend additional suspects.

It is noteworthy that protests by the PTI at Liaquat Bagh yesterday resulted in clashes between police and activists, leading to injuries on both sides.

Incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan's sister Aleema Khan has stated that if Imran Khan is to be released from jail, peaceful protests must continue; otherwise, they could put him in a military jail

Speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail on Monday, Aleema mentioned that Judge Shah Rukh Arjmand rejected the bail applications of the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi.

This same judge had dragged the waiting case for three months and has now delayed this case as well.

Aleema Khan emphasized that to remove Imran Khan from jail and "end this fascism", peaceful protests must continue; otherwise, they may "put Imran in military custody" instead of allowing him to come out.

She remarked that the people of Rawalpindi had come out for peaceful protests for their freedom and the freedom of the judiciary, and they joined in solidarity.

She testified that there was no police present; instead, a special unit dressed in black was firing rubber bullets directly at people.

"A large convoy led by Ali Amin reached Burhan, where they were shot at. The government is scared that people are demanding their right to vote".

Aleema Khan noted that the PTI founder said protests should never stop and that the protest two days ago should not have been called off.

She affirmed that the upcoming protests would not cease, stating, "We need Imran Khan out; we need an independent judiciary. There is no other way to release Imran Khan and the other prisoners."

She announced that protests are scheduled in Bahawalpur, Mianwali, and Faisalabad on Wednesday, emphasizing that this is the constitutional right of the people, which cannot be taken away.

"There will also be a protest on October 5 at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore to celebrate the PTI founder's birthday, with the date for Karachi's protest yet to be determined, Aleema maintained.

She said that the Islamabad protest will be the final round, with the date to be announced soon.

"No amount of tear gas or rubber bullets would stop them from exercising their constitutional rights," she added.

Don’t see PTI surviving anymore, the Establishment has taken over every department. Almost seems like the firewall as well is under them now.

PTI will survive, once the establishment gets rids of IK they’ll make PTI into another PML-N/PPP type of party. They’re not just going to get rid of the most popular party in the country. That would just lead to more chaos.

PTI to stage protest at D-Chowk on Oct 4

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) announced a protest at D-Chowk on Oct 4.

The party leadership in Peshawar decided to proceed with the protest at D-Chowk regardless of the circumstances. The decision was made during a meeting of the PTI parliamentary party in Peshawar, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

Addressing the meeting, CM Gandapur acknowledged flaws in the planning of their previous protest, which led to an early withdrawal. He highlighted the lack of proper protective equipment, such as masks, for workers and leaders during the tear gas shelling.

This time, Gandapur assured that well-trained workers and essential equipment would lead the procession to avoid similar issues.

"Unlike last time, machinery will be ahead of the convoys, ensuring that blocked roads won't hinder the protest's progress to D-Chowk," he said, cautioning that the protest could last for several days.

The meeting concluded with plans for convoys to depart from Peshawar at 11am and from Swabi in the afternoon on the day of the protest, with CM Gandapur leading the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa delegation once again.

Army and paramilitary forces deployed in Islamabad

The federal government on Thusrday announced the deployment of the army in the capital, Islamabad, effective October 5.

This decision, confirmed by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi during a press conference, comes in response to escalating tensions surrounding planned protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

Naqvi stated that alongside the army, paramilitary forces and the Frontier Corps (FC) will also be stationed in the city to maintain order.

He issued a stern warning to PTI, asserting that any violent actions against the capital will not be tolerated. “If someone attacks Islamabad tomorrow, there will be no leniency,” he declared.

The minister emphasised the significance of the timing, noting the presence of Malaysia’s Prime Minister and other important international delegations in Islamabad.

He urged PTI to consider the broader implications of their planned protests, insisting that “any protest should not come at the cost of Pakistan.” He further reminded the opposition party that they are a political entity within Pakistan, not a foreign force.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Naqvi remarked, “We should engage in politics, but this method is not correct. A head of state is present in Pakistan, and a delegation from Saudi Arabia is also arriving.”

In closing, the Interior Minister advised that those who might provoke violence should be treated with caution. “No one can be allowed to attack,” he asserted, underscoring the government's commitment to maintaining peace and security in the capital.

Naqvi warns PTI protesters of strict action during Malaysian PM's visit

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned that no leniency will be shown to those who attempt to protest in Islamabad’s D-Chowk, emphasising that the presence of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the country should prompt the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to postpone its demonstrations.

In a press conference held in Islamabad on Thursday, Naqvi stated, “The prime minister of Malaysia is here, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting is also being held in Pakistan. PTI should reconsider its plans. When a foreign leader is in the country, saying that we will storm Islamabad is simply not right.”

Naqvi stressed that the Malaysian prime minister’s protocol would not be compromised. “We cannot allow any rallies of this nature when a foreign head of state is in the city. If you launch a protest, whose interests are you really serving?” he questioned, recalling how a minor incident during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lahore still affects Pakistan’s reputation.

He further warned that anyone attempting to gather at D-Chowk would face strict consequences. “Those who get caught will not be shown any leniency,” Naqvi said, adding that it was unbecoming of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to support such actions. "We have made full arrangements in case of any protests in Islamabad, and I warn them now—there should be no complaints later."

Naqvi also mentioned that a delegation from Saudi Arabia is expected to arrive soon and that the army has been deployed in Islamabad to ensure security. “We must guarantee security at all costs. It doesn’t suit anyone, as a Pakistani, to cause disruption during these high-profile visits,” he said.

Naqvi also noted that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman has requested PTI to delay their protest. "If they don't, the state will be there to handle it," he added.

He urged political workers to think carefully before taking to the streets. “Don’t complain to us later. We have laid out our strategy up until the 17th of October,” Naqvi concluded.

Mobile, internet services suspended in twin cities as all entry, exit points blocked ahead of PTI rally

Mobile networks and internet services have been suspended in Islamabad and Rawalpindi while the police have blocked all entry and points to the cities, ahead of a planned PTI rally at the capital’s D-Chowk.

Meanwhile, incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan again called on his supporters to gather for a “peaceful protest” as his party amped up preparations for the rally despite a ban on gatherings.

The PTI has carried out multiple rallies across the country in recent weeks, protesting against the “illegal” imprisonment of its founder and the Election Commission of Pakistan’s delay in implementing the reserved seats verdict, as well as to “save the Constitution”.

Ahead of its rallies in Islamabad and Lahore earlier this month, the government had issued a set of strict guidelines, which the PTI failed to follow fully, sparking clashes between its workers and the authorities.

The PTI today shared updates of its caravans departing various cities, despite being warned by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi a day ago not to hold any rally in Islamabad due to several high-profile visits by foreign dignitaries.

Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl Maulana Fazlur Rehman, with whom the PTI has been in frequent amicable contact recently, has also urged the party to postpone its planned gatherings till the foreigners have left.

According to a Dawn.com correspondent in Islamabad, mobile network and internet services have been suspended across the twin cities since the morning, causing problems for the public, especially those relying on it for their work.

As of 4:42pm, outage tracking website Downdetector showed possible problems in accessing Zong and PTCL services since around 5am, with most of the complaints located near Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The Dawn.com correspondent reported that roads leading to the Red Zone and D-Chowk were sealed from all sides, including at Serena, Jinnah Avenue, Nadra Square, Marriott Hotel and Zero Point. Entry points of the twin cities, Srinagar Highway at Bus Stop 26, Faizabad Chowk, Sanjgani Toll Plaza, Margalla Road, and 9th Avenue were also closed.

Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Khalid Hamdani said in a statement that security was on high alert and pillion-riding was banned, adding that mobile network and metro bus services were suspended indefinitely.

The officials also said that other routes within Islamabad were likely to be blocked after 2pm to prevent the entry of PTI workers.

Islamabad Police also posted a reminder on its X account of Section 144 being “in force” in the federal capital.

“Citizens are requested not to be part of any illegal activity. The law will act against those who disturb peace and order,” the police said, adding that people should observe traffic advisories for road closures while travelling.

On Wednesday, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) authorities had enforced Section 144 and the Peaceful Assembly Act across the federal capital, prohibiting gatherings and processions in restricted areas as part of tightened security measures.

According to the ICT police, the high-security zone, Red Zone and surrounding areas have been designated as restricted.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said no one would be allowed to damage public property.

“We have made arrangements for the security of our foreign guests. Apologies for the inconvenience to the citizens of Islamabad. Protesters should take stock of their senses. Visitors should feel that they are visiting a safe country,” said a statement issued by state broadcaster PTV.

Caravans depart as Imran renews protest call

According to a post on Imran’s X account conveying his “message to the public”, the ex-premier called everyone to reach D-Chowk for a peaceful protest.

He also urged those residing in Lahore to get ready for tomorrow’s planned gathering at Minar-i-Pakistan.

“This war is in its decisive phase, by the grace of Allah we are winning the battle for our true freedom,” the post said.

PTI MNA Qasim Khan Suri reposted a video of containers purportedly blocking Islamabad’s streets, saying that the government should “wear bangles and accept its defeat” if it was “depriving its citizens of their basic right” to protest.

The party’s Lahore chapter shared purported visuals of its leaders departing from various cities across KP, including Swabi, Battagram and Bajaur.

PTI MPA Abdul Munim told Dawn.com that a large number of participants coming from different areas of KP were joining a rally in Swabi, which would then proceed to Islamabad.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and other PTI lawmakers have vowed to attend the D-Chowk rally, warning authorities of retaliating if they were stopped from entering the capital.

The Punjab government had imposed section 144 in various cities, prompting allegations from the PTI of creating a curfew-like situation to restrict its protests. In Mianwali, the ban was placed on Tuesday for seven days.

In Lahore, the Punjab home secretary imposed Section 144 for six days from Oct 3 in a bid to foil the PTI protest on Saturday. Sources said the government was not going to place containers at the entry and exit points of Lahore. Instead, they would establish pickets where the rangers and police would intercept protesters.

“Since the government has imposed Section 144, the police have been authorised to arrest protesters,” a source had said and added the government’s action in Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad, and Mianwali on Wednesday had given a strong message to the PTI to keep Lahore ‘calm and peaceful tomorrow’.

The provincial government also imposed Section 144(6) in Rawalpindi, Attock and Sargodha, banning all kinds of political gatherings, sit-ins, meetings, demonstrations and protests for three days.

According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department dated October 3 — a copy of which is available with Dawn — Section 144 has been imposed in Rawalpindi, Attock and Sargodha from today till Sunday.

The ban was decided on the recommendation of the district administration to establish law and order, and protection of human lives and property citing “security threats” and claiming that public gatherings can be a “soft target” for terrorists.

The Punjab Home Department also sent a letter to the interior ministry requesting the services of Rangers.

Six companies of Rangers were called in Rawalpindi and Attock for October 4 and 5 and three companies were requisitioned in Lahore for October 5.

The home department also issued a notification to deploy 10 platoons of Frontier Constabulary in Attock to “maintain law and order situation”.

'Armed PTI supporters planning attack on Islamabad:' Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi

Islamabad is on high alert as Interior Minister Senator Mohsin Naqvi has claimed that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters are armed and planning an attack on the capital.

Speaking to the media at D-Chowk, Naqvi said that, while the right to protest is fundamental, PTI workers are 'carrying weapons' and aiming to cause unrest.

“We will not allow anyone to damage property,” Naqvi said. “Yesterday, we requested them not to hold rallies or protests at this time. I apologise to the residents of Islamabad for any inconvenience caused.”

Naqvi stated that the law enforcement agencies have not armed their personnel, further claiming that videos and images had shown PTI supporters with weapons.

He added that the Chief Minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Ali Amin Gandapur should "reconsider his actions, stating that while protests are a right, this is not the appropriate method."

The Interior Minister stressed the importance of ensuring the security of foreign dignitaries currently in Islamabad, stating, “I am absolutely clear that they are planning an attack on Islamabad. We have made necessary arrangements for the safety of our foreign guests.”

PTI has called for a protest at D-Chowk in Islamabad today, with K-P Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stating he will reach the protest, even if he has to go alone.

Major routes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been sealed off by authorities, using containers to block the M1 motorway at key points like GT Road, Attock Khurd, Hassanabdal, and Chashma Point.

Islamabad police arrested Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, the sisters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, from D-Chowk on Friday

The two were taken into custody and transferred to the Secretariat police station, as confirmed by Express News.

Their arrest followed a PTI announcement of a planned protest at D-Chowk. Supporters of the party began arriving in the area, with Aleema and Uzma also joining the demonstration before being detained by police.

Earlier in the day, life in Rawalpindi and Islamabad came to a standstill as authorities sealed entry and exit points to the capital. Mobile phone services were suspended ahead of the PTI rally. The government intensified efforts to curb the protest's success, while PTI worked to turn the gathering into a political victory.

Islamabad police announced the closure of police facilitation centres and driving licence offices for the day. Metro bus services between Saddar and IJP Road in Rawalpindi were also halted, though services continued between IJP Road and Pak Secretariat.

At the Burhan Interchange, tensions escalated between PTI supporters from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and the police. Tear gas was fired to disperse the crowd, leading to clashes. In D-Chowk, the situation intensified as PTI workers gathered, prompting police to fire tear gas and arrest six more individuals.

Police fire tear gas at PTI workers as arrests climb to over 30 in D-Chowk crackdown

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters began gathering at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on Friday, prompting police to fire tear gas in an effort to disperse them. According to reports, four more PTI workers were arrested at the scene, bringing the total number of arrests at D-Chowk to six. Nationwide, over 30 PTI members have been detained in various locations.

In response to the PTI protest, authorities sealed all routes leading into Islamabad, effectively cutting off access from Rawalpindi. At the Burhan Interchange, clashes erupted between the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) convoy and the police, with tear gas used to control the situation. Several PTI workers were arrested at the scene.

Islamabad police confirmed that three individuals were arrested from D-Chowk, including two civilians and one PTI supporter. Tear gas was used to push back the protesters, who retaliated by chanting slogans against the police.

In Rawalpindi, key roads, including Murree Road, have been blocked for 16 hours, causing severe disruption. Public transport is off the roads, and even motorcyclists are facing difficulties due to the containers and barricades.

Despite heavy security, a female PTI supporter managed to reach D-Chowk, where she shouted slogans in favour of PTI and against the government. Her arrival sparked chaos among the police, who swiftly detained her and moved her to the station.

Several major roads, including Cheering Cross, MH Chowk, and Mall Road in Saddar, have been sealed from both sides, while other key points in Rawalpindi, such as Flashman Road, Marrir Chowk, and Double Road Stadium, remain closed.

Rawalpindi’s City Traffic Police have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel due to the ongoing unrest. Motorcycle access is permitted on major roads linking the twin cities, but entry into Islamabad’s Red Zone remains completely blocked.

Amidst the blockade, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) assured that domestic and international flights would continue as scheduled. Passengers are advised to plan their airport journeys carefully, using alternative routes.

In Punjab, Section 144 has been imposed in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha, with a ban on political gatherings, protests, and demonstrations. Rangers have been deployed in Rawalpindi, Attock, and Lahore to maintain law and order during the protests.

Rawalpindi Metro Bus services remain suspended, and double-riding on motorcycles is prohibited across the city. Islamabad police continue to enforce Section 144, urging citizens not to engage in illegal activities.

For those travelling to or from Islamabad, authorities recommend keeping updated with traffic advisories. The situation remains tense, with security on high alert as PTI protests continue to unfold across the region.

Gandapur vows to reach D-Chowk at all costs

Lashing out at the federal government, KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur said that police were firing tear gas shells at “peaceful” political workers.

“Several [PTI protesters] sustained injures due to firing and shelling by the police personnel,” he claimed.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister vowed to reach the Islamabad’s D-Chowk at all costs. He further said that the injured were being shifted to nearby hospitals.

Govt moves to counter PTI protests as Lahore braces for showdown

A showdown between the PTI and the Punjab government in Lahore today (Saturday) appears almost certain as the party plans to hold a protest at Minar-i-Pakistan to demand a cut in inflation, independence of judiciary and release of party founder Imran Khan.

While a determined PTI is calling it a ‘do or die’ to ensure its programme goes ahead as scheduled, the government has declared that it would not tolerate any violation of Section 144 and is, therefore, prepared to clamp down on the protesters.

The government, which has successfully blocked PTI protesters in Rawalpindi and other districts, decided to use state machinery and all legal tools to crush the Lahore protest.

As part of its strategy to hold an impressive show at Minar-i-Pakistan, the central PTI leadership had instructed its Lahore chapter not to come to participate in the Islamabad D-Chowk protest on Friday to avoid arrest and save strength for the Lahore power show.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PTI Punjab acting president Hammad Azhar, who is in a self-imposed hiding, hoped Lahorites would come out in droves and reject the incumbent government’s alleged fascism.

Security measures

The Punjab government has already imposed Section 144 in Lahore, Mianwali, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Attock, banning all kinds of political assemblies, gatherings, rallies and protests.

Section 144 will remain in force in Lahore until Oct 8; Mianwali Oct 7; and in Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Attock until Oct 6. Pillion riding was banned in Rawalpindi and Attock for Friday and Saturday.

The government has called nine companies of paramilitary Rangers in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Attock to perform duty on Saturday.

The Punjab government picked up some 600 PTI workers since Wednesday during police raids on party workers’ homes and offices.

All police stations in Lahore were put on high alert and instructed to patrol and arrest those found violating the ban on gatherings.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz held marathon meetings with the chief secretary, home secretary and IGP, asking them for a strong crackdown against the PTI supporters coming out on roads.

A Central Control Room established at the home department continued monitoring PTI workers’ movement on Friday and would do so on Saturday.

The government has decided not to place containers at the entry and exit points of Lahore, but it plans to set up pickets and deploy Rangers to block protesters. However, reports suggest containers will be placed at the entry and exit points.

“Since the government has imposed Section 144, the police had been authorised to arrest protesters and those found marching in groups,” a senior home department official told Dawn and added that the government’s actions in Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Faisalabad and Mianwali had conveyed a strong message to keep Lahore calm and peaceful on Saturday.

Speaking to Dawn, PTI leader Shayan Bashir said the party’s central Punjab organisations had been activated, adding that they were keeping their plans secret to give surprise to the “fascist government”.

Since the ex-PM has given the protest call and stated that it’s time to ‘do or die’, Mr Bashir said the party had plans to celebrate Mr Khan’s birthday on Oct 5 and pass a resolution for “Haqeeqi Azadi” at the Minar-i-Pakistan ground.

PTI Lahore General Secretary Awais Younas held meetings with the party’s ground formation leaders and asserted, “Lahore batae ga, Lahore kaptaan ka hai”.

Shame on Imran Khan for making the lives of the citizens of Islamabad miserable. People can’t travel in and out of the city and even the day to day activities within the cities have been disturbed. People cannot go to work, schools have been closed down, a lot of people can’t even get to hospitals.

This maniac has destroyed this country and as long as he is alive, Pakistan cannot be stabilized.

Overseas cult followers are not even aware of how much damage he has caused and is causing to the every day lives of the citizens of Pakistan.

Can someone explain why protests occur during SCO meetings? Why can't they happen after the summit?

After Islamabad, army to be deployed in Lahore as PTI goes ahead with protest plans

The situation in Islamabad continued to remain tensed on Saturday, a day after violent clashes between PTI supporters and the police, while the party decided to go ahead with its Lahore protest amid blockades and high security.

Life in the capital and adjacent Rawalpindi remained disturbed for a second consecutive day with mobile network services suspended and major roads and entry points still blocked by containers.

Hundreds of PTI activists, including senior leaders, had gathered at multiple locations in Islamabad on Friday — defying heavy police blockades and road closures — for its planned protest at D-Chowk despite Section 144 in force.

Resultantly, Islamabad Police rounded up over 100 PTI members and supporters as violent clashes between protesters and law enforcement officials were reported throughout the day, with several instances of stone-pelting and tear gas exchanges being witnessed.

According to a Dawn.com correspondent in Islamabad, the major and link roads between the twin cities and entry points connecting from Motorway M1, M2 and Grand Trunk Road were still blocked by containers on Saturday.

He added that except for PTCL and Nayatel broadband services, all other mobile and internet services were down, causing major issues for the local residents. Schools were also closed in both cities for a second day.

Interestingly, the indictment of Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi in a Toshakhana graft case, which had been earlier deferred until today (October 5), was once again postponed due to the situation in Rawalpindi.

As roads remained blocked in the garrison city, the judges could not reach Adiala Jail to conduct the hearing. Subsequently, the hearings of Imran’s Toshakhana and £190m graft cases were adjourned till October 7 and October 8, respectively.

PTI to continue Islamabad protest

The situation remains tense in Islamabad as the PTI seemed determined to continue its protest, called by Imran, despite claiming fresh incidents of tear-gas shelling at its supporters.

KP government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Saif said the PTI procession, along with CM Gandapur, spent the night on the motorway and started moving early in the morning for D-Chowk.

In a post on X at around 3pm, the PTI announced the arrival of its procession from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Islamabad, which was being led by KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur. Authorities had earlier dug trenches and placed iron nails on a stretch of the Islamabad-Peshawar motorway to prevent the caravan from reaching the capital.

In another post, the PTI alleged “Naqvi and PML-N have ordered massive tear gas shelling at D-Chowk”, sharing a purported video of the same.

Nawaz Mehmood, PTI KP chapter’s deputy general secretary who was present with protesters at Jinnah Avenue, told Dawn.com that their protest for the release of Imran and his fellow party leaders would continue at D-Chowk.

He urged party workers to avoid damaging public property, claiming that he saw plain-clothed people from security agencies trying to do the same to “repeat May 9” incidents.

“I request the building owners of Blue Area to not allow police deployment at their building rooftops as they are supposed to use teargas against PTI’s peaceful protesters,” he said.

PTI senior leader Hammad Azhar also said in a post on X that the Islamabad protest would continue and called for protest rallies to be held across Punjab.

120 Afghan nationals arrested during PTI clashes: Naqvi

Separately, interior minister Naqvi said on Saturday that a total of 120 Afghan nationals were arrested in the past 48 hours, with 41 of them “caught” in yesterday’s clashes between the PTI and the Islamabad police.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad today, Naqvi said: “Forty-one Afghan nationals were caught in yesterday’s clashes and a total of 120 Afghan nationals in the previous 48 hours, which is alarming […] a country’s own public protesting is a separate thing.”

He further said that the capital police were fired at near Pathargarh, where he said CM Gandapur’s caravan passed through.

“They were firing tear gas. How did they get so much tear gas?” the interior minister wondered, adding that “80 to 85 policemen” were injured as a result and were undergoing treatment.

Naqvi said there was “evidence of chats and groups” where people from “Bannu and tribal areas were being told to bring guns and weapons”.

Stating that he was in contact with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Naqvi asserted that the government would not allow the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad to be “sabotaged”.

“Now we have an idea of their motives. The [PTI] leadership who ordered this is responsible. The KP CM is practically implementing this and is responsible as he is leading the protest,” Naqvi said, referring to PTI’s Gandapur.

Punjab deploys army, grants permission to use firearms to ‘maintain law and order’

Meanwhile, as the PTI plans to hold a protest at Lahore’s Minar-i-Pakistan, the Punjab government issued orders for army troops to be deployed, allowing it to take certain measures to “maintain law and order”.

The PTI has called its planned protest — to demand a cut in inflation, independence of judiciary and Imran’s release — a “do or die”, despite all entry and exit points of Lahore being heavily barricaded amid a ban on rallies under Section 144.

The Punjab home department issued orders for the “requisition/ deployment of troops of Pakistan Army in aid of civil power for maintaining law and order situation” in the province.

Its notification issued on Saturday, seen by Dawn.com, set the Rules of Engagement (ROEs) for the army.

It specified that the armed forces, civil armed forces and police would be deployed “around the airbase/ airport, routes, venues, accommodation, etc, falling within the territorial jurisdiction” of Punjab to maintain law and order as well as provide security to foreign delegates during the upcoming SCO summit.

Under the ROEs, the armed forces would be “allowed to take such measures as warranted by the situation, including using of firearms”.

“Exact contours of deployment of armed forces will be determined by the military commander on ground in consultation with police commander,” the notification read.

The ROEs enable the local commander to employ certain measures in the event they are “preempted to get any information of any threat or are attacked or threatened by hostile elements”.

In the absence of local police authorities, the rules allow the armed forces to “detain any person who commits or threatens to commit a crime”.

The rules include “show of force, including the use of Riot Control Agents (RCAs)”; “warning shot may be fired over the heads of hostile elements”; that a “hostile fire should be returned effectively and promptly to stop hostile act”; and “unrestricted use of electronic monitoring as deemed appropriate by local commander”.

“Use of minimum force under the circumstances and proportionate to threat, however, no rule/ legal procedure limits one’s right to take appropriate action to defend himself and the infrastructure/ entities entrusted to him,” one of the rules read.

Naqvi warns Gandapur, hints at extreme measures amid protests

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued a stern warning to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, accusing him of crossing numerous lines and hinting at the possibility of extreme measures if the situation escalates further.

In a conversation with the media, the interior minister indicated that the chief minister has been involved in actions that have exacerbated the crisis, with protesters hurling stones at the police and creating disturbances in the area. Naqvi emphasized that while efforts were made to resolve the situation peacefully, the ambitions of the provincial leadership have gone beyond acceptable limits.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. If more lines are crossed, extreme measures will be taken," warned Naqvi, without elaborating on the specific actions that may follow. The minister also held PTI leaders, particularly Ali Amin Gandapur, accountable for the unrest, accusing them of inflaming the situation with their rhetoric and actions.

As the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) conference approaches, the federal government is keen on maintaining order and ensuring the event is not sabotaged. Naqvi stressed that under no circumstances would the conference be disrupted, warning that those responsible for attacks, particularly on Islamabad, will "pay the price."

During his media briefing, Naqvi also revealed that 120 Afghans were arrested in the last 24 hours, raising concerns about external elements joining the protests. He questioned how they managed to infiltrate the demonstrations, particularly as evidence surfaced of protesters allegedly preparing for violence, including bringing weapons.

"There are chats where it was instructed to bring weapons to the protests. Where did these Afghans come from?" he asked.

Naqvi confirmed that 80 to 85 police officers had been injured during the clashes, many due to tear gas fired by the protestors. He indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine how protestors managed to acquire such large quantities of tear gas.

When asked about the possibility of imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Naqvi said that political leadership, including the Prime Minister and President, are in constant contact. "The final strategy will be implemented after thorough discussions, but rest assured, we will not allow the country’s peace to be sabotaged."

He concluded with an apology to the citizens of Islamabad for the disruption caused by the heightened security measures but emphasized that these steps are necessary for their safety. "We are doing everything we can to ensure the security of the city and its residents. The army and Rangers have also been deployed, and we will act firmly to restore peace," he said.

Two PTI workers from Abbottabad were also arrested during the protests, Naqvi confirmed.

The Americans have supported this regime because it delivers a PK which isn't a govt of its people.

Read this and tell us why Venezuela and not PK. Is it because Venezuela backs the Palestinians and PK doesn't bar some glib statements. Your regime is hated By PKs. You have no support

Why are the Americans condemning and rejecting the Venezuelan Govt and not PKs Junta stealing an election? IK won a 2/3rd majority and today he is in prison. Why havent the Americans rejected this illegal govt. Well we know why. IK rejected Israel and today he is paying the price. Establishment are backed by the Israel, they don't have 50 seats and got humiliated and on the 9th February they stole the election.

The Anarchy Movement [PTI] has become Pakistan's equivalent of Turkey's Gulen movement, seeking to infiltrate and dominate the state. Just as President Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the Gulen movement's influence in Turkey's administration, judiciary, police, and army, Pakistan must now confront this movement to protect its country and state.

Bewal mate nothings going to happen

Only that your kpk chapter of the party will have to do a full mutiny in kpk balochistan by rousing politics of ethno fascism and try to secede like 1971 like the treacherous bengalis obviously they help will be the namak haram country to the west not india but indian raw will play its part.

So that is the only option and once that happens since kpk and Afghanistan are not 1000s of miles away like bangladesh or a need for a massive navy and naval logistics 1971 won't happen the only thing will happen is the military will get full powers take its gloves off and plug the backsides once and for all of your kpk chapter and the afghanis who today are represented by the taliban variant before that the came in form of communists and right wing pashtun nationalists all defeated.

Are you going to deny that under this goverment pakistan economy has begun to improve there is growth , exports have begun to increase and inflation that plagued your messiahs term and his wef/ nwo agenda of imposing covid lockdowns is now dropping .

We know the men with guns have an advantage, it's called bullets. But unlike NS and AZ, IK has shown courage that no PK has shown for decades and PKs have supported this with their lives. Look at NS and AZ, voting for a constitutional amendment they hadn't even seen because they weren't important enough to be shown something which affects every PK and may do so for generations. If beghairati had a name.

PKs voted for IK but the international establishment and the establishment got scared. They then promised Everyone they would finish IK and today he sits in prison with 90% of PK behind him. The Israeli backed establishment and his puppets are a dictatorship with no support. I would bet my last paisa that they couldn't win 10 seats if fair elections were held today. No one bar some gormless loser on here would deny this.

Govt should announce they will postpone the constitutional amendments package and the protests will be postponed accordingly.
They can't survive without it. The plan is to ban the PTI, a bit like Zia did in the late 70s and early 80s with the PPP.

Listen enough of the dharnas, dj butt's , peernis predictions , and ik sisters on stage to arouse the male crowds why doesn't your leader put his money where his mouth is tell his kpk wing to do full mutiny like 1971 .

And then you will see what happens .

End it do it your leader harped about defanging pakistan army , no nuclear weapons with guarantees from West against India and denuclearised south Asia, constant harping on about pakistan breaking up and threatening 1971 , now just do it.

All we know under his rule kashmir was sold which never happened under bhuttos , ganjas, musharraf or even yahya khan when he was drunk.

We won the election and IK is a PK leader, not your crooked, plot seeking morons that hold people at gun point for a big plot. He won Punjab and KP, infact he won both with 2/3rd majorities. Can you explain why these plot seekers and puppets are holding PK hostage.

Yes. What do you know about the economy? PK was growing at 6% under IK and inflation at around 10% compared to 50% under the mafia, we grow during covid, something the World hadnt seen the likes of for a 100 years and then these thugs come and destroy everything. IKs work was undone. We went into a recession as they stole billions and let their friends loot. The wheat scandal and IPP scandal to name just 2

Election 2024 was shamlessly stole like a pathetic daylight robbery along with many PTI family members been kidnapped/abused for 2 bloody years. A journalist like Arshad Sharif was murdered with no accountability in courts along with huge number of fake FIRs against PTI leadership. The provincial elections 2023 was cancelled making a joke of so called constitution.

The handlers and current government have literally suspended the constitution and still some people are taking about "oh, the opposition is not following the so called constitution/law & orders"

Sorry to say but thats shameless hypocrisy.

Lol at PML N and PPP, some of their MNA's cannot even pronounce the word constitution properly and they are voting for a draconian police state creating package which will make Pakistan an even worse state than North Korea without having even bothered to go threw the details.

Bilowal is running pillar to post for the package because he has been promised the PM seat in reward.

No wonder @Mamoon ran. I asked him if he supported this dictatorship and the amendment and he run off. All those years of telling he was anti establishment was lie.

I'm quite honestly shocked at the way people lie through their teeths on here. There are multiple posters on here blaming this on IK and I'm sure they will even justify the killing of IK when our Nizam goes down that route.

IK is no longer a name or memory the guy has literally become a symbol of hope for the common man. The kind of punishment he has endured at the hands of self proclaimed gods is a ray of hope of every ordinary citizen that this country can indeed get a good leader and there is a man willing to die for the betterment of this country.

May Allah grant him shifa and jannah in akhira. Whilst for oppressors and misguided people walking in footsteps of Pharaoh and Yazeed, may Allah show them a trailer of hellfire in this life before their death.

Any links to summarise whole event .

Key points: the amendment wasn’t shared with anyone, they tried to pass it but didn’t have the numbers.

They’re trying to create another court that will deal with the constitution, and the judge for that court will be picked by the PM.

Their goal is to have QFI (whose tenure is ending in late Oct) as the judge of the new court, he’ll ban PTI and keep IK in jail.

He has exposed every Munafiq in and out of govt. Remember all those Liberals that "hated" the Generals, well what happened to them? The likes of Cyril Almeida are openly goading the PTI, Remember when the likes of Sethi pretended to be anti General, where are they today. What happened to the guys on here? Remember when Mamoon etc pollute threads to show their Liberalism and today they can barely comment on the crimes against their fellow citizens.

Their corrupt Chief Justice isn't getting the extension hence their rule may come to an end. To prevent it they have:

a) changed the law, which previously barred from eg PTI's lawmakers voting against PTI/for other parties. This way they can:

b) kidnap PTI members to force them to vote for the amendment....the amendment which will - 1) make a new court which will make the current corrupt CJ its chief thereby contuning this martial law 2) render the Supreme Court useless since their rulings won't matter 3) to ensure this new court does the dictators' bidding, the supreme judge will chosen by the PM (read the Army Chief)

Anyone supporting this is simply a traitor to the constitution, atleast in that case admit it and have the guts you support martial law.

Agreed. I also wanted it spelt out, so neutrals can see the two defenders in this thread defending such a disgusting ruling. These people don't know that once this is done, the establishment will use them as tissue paper and use it against them too.

They have been shown their auqaat- they werent even allowed to see the amendment and until Diesel asked to see it, they had no idea what they were about to vote for. Has there ever been such shamelessness from any politician of note anywhere in the World.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Saturday warned of strict action in the coming days against PTI protesters after a day of clashes between the police and the party’s supporters

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad with the federal capital’s and Punjab police chiefs, Naqvi said: “An assault was waged which was being led by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister himself and it is before you the way they (protesters) inflicted violence on the police, I don’t need to tell you.”

He said the police had evidence of live firing, adding that a total of 564 individuals were arrested, including 120 Afghans and 11 KP police personnel.

Naqvi said the interior minister had initiated a high-level inquiry into how a provincial police force was involved in the protests and “attacked [other] police officers”, adding that “this has happened for the first time in Pakistan”.

The interior minister vowed: “Who ordered this? I assure you that whoever has given the instructions and has used the police, we will take strict action against them, submit the report to the prime minister after the inquiry and then action will be taken after that.”

Protesting PTI workers reach Minar-i-Pakistan

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers defied the Punjab government’s protective measures on Saturday, enduring heavy tear gas and baton charges to gather at Minar-i-Pakistan in a show of strength.

The demonstrators, chanting slogans, had responded to a call from party founder Imran Khan, assembling to celebrate his birthday and pass the “Haqeeqi Azadi” (Real Freedom) resolution at the historic site where the Pakistan Resolution was passed in 1940.

Despite the imposition of Section 144 in Lahore and four other cities, banning all political gatherings, PTI supporters turned out in large numbers. The government had also deployed Rangers in Lahore, setting up roadblocks with containers and putting police and paramilitary forces on high alert.

The Punjab government, acting on the recommendations of the Standing Committee of Cabinet on Law and Order, had also requested army troops to maintain order. However, the Home Department clarified that these deployments were primarily for the security of heads of state attending the two-day Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Islamabad. “The army troops will be deployed as per requirement in Rawalpindi and Attock,” a Home Department spokesperson said.

In response to the heavy security measures, the PTI leadership earlier announced that there was a surprise in store. On Saturday, PTI workers across Lahore and neighbouring districts waited until the evening before launching a coordinated march towards Minar-i-Pakistan.

As they moved through the city, they faced intense tear gas and baton charges from the police, with some protesters retaliating. However, the demonstrators continued their march, shouting slogans such as “Le ke rahein gay Azadi” (We will take freedom), “Imran teray jaanisar, beshumaar” (Imran, your devotees are countless), and “Imran Khan Zindabad” (Long live Imran Khan).

PTI’s Lahore General Secretary Awais Younas, one of the organisers, declared, “Your tear gas will run out, but our passion to reach Minar-i-Pakistan will not subside.” Mr Younas was later arrested by a police officer.

Several PTI leaders, including Lahore MPA Ahmer Rasheed Bhatti, ticket-holders Malik Zaheer Abbas Khokhar and Malik Nadeem Bara, were detained at the protest venue. The opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar, was also arrested, and his whereabouts remained unknown until late in the night.

Many party workers, affected by tear gas, were seen washing their eyes with water as they reached the Minar-i-Pakistan ground. The widespread use of tear gas also impacted residents, with women and children in nearby homes suffering from its effects as police continued to fire into densely populated areas.

Earlier in the day, PTI lawyers and workers briefly appeared at the GPO Chowk and outside Aiwan-i-Adal before being rounded up by the police. However, as evening approached, people came out from several areas in droves and defied all restrictions, removed barricades and marched towards the protest venue. By 10pm, PTI workers and supporters continued to gather at Minar-i-Pakistan.

Mr Khan had issued a “Do or Die” order, instructing PTI supporters who could not make it to Lahore to stage protests in their own cities. Late in the night, caravans of PTI workers from cities surrounding Lahore had also arrived at the Minar-i-Pakistan ground.

PTI Punjab’s Acting President Hammad Azhar later announced that the party’s political committee had decided to continue the protests. “In the event of further arrests, the second-tier leadership will take charge,” he said.

Meanwhile, party leader Salman Akram Raja tweeted that the PTI decided not to stop protests against proposed constitutional amendments. “This protest will spread across Pakistan and every citizen will become its part,” he added.

Agreed. I also wanted it spelt out, so neutrals can see the two defenders in this thread defending such a disgusting ruling. These people don't know that once this is done, the establishment will use them as tissue paper and use it against them too.
I don’t think this will happen again. Not in the near future at least. Pmln and PPP have convinced the establishment they will be the lap dogs for as long as they can and will do what is asked of them so long as they can hold superficial powers in the government and their corruption cases are never brought up again. The establishment and the puppet politicians plan to keep the status quo indefinitely.
People will learn to live with it. The protests will die down soon and IK will be forgotten eventually.

cant believe a people claiming a wrist watch thief to be the symbol of hope lool

There seems to be lot of fault lines in Pakistan today. Hopefully Modi Ji leverage it to full extent.

People on here disputing IK being the symbol of hope and resistance needs to realize that IK has achieved in one life than lives of all PDM corrupt united. When one lifetime overshadows generational corrupt political work then you should realize that IK has become a symbol which is going to have a lasting impact even after his death.

Another day of police-PTI workers clashes: Mohsin Naqvi parries question about KP CM’s whereabouts

Federal ministers, including Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, claimed on Saturday the real motive of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and leaders behind staging the protest was to sabotage the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, due to open on October 15.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the attack on Islamabad, led by Ali Amin Gandapur, was carried out by a well-trained armed group, whose aim was to reach the D-Chowk and stage a sit-in there till the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

Addressing a press conference along with IGP Punjab Dr Usman and IGP Islamabad, he said action would be taken against all elements involved in the attack on the federal capital. He said armed men, led by KP CM Gandapur, stormed Islamabad and strict legal action would be taken against the attackers and planners.

Naqvi said the Islamabad police had arrested 564 people, and 120 Afghan citizens were also included. He said 11 KP policemen were also arrested from D-Chowk. These policemen were in plainclothes and teargas shells, masks and rubber bullets were recovered from them.

He claimed that firing was carried out on the Punjab Police on Saturday morning, but the personnel observed restraint. There were trained militants among the protestors, and the police officers braved severe stone-pelting, he added. Naqvi said protesters used long-range teargas shells and 31 officials of Islamabad police and 75 of the Punjab police were injured due to stone-pelting. One of them was in a critical condition, he added.

Naqvi said strict action would be taken against the planners of the attack. “We will search and clear the entire area. People of Islamabad have been suffering for two days. I apologise. We are trying to normalise things as soon as possible.”

The interior minister, however, refrained from confirming or denying the arrest of KP CM Gandapur at the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House.

Earlier in the day, Mohsin Naqvi said the KP CM should not force the government to take extreme measures. Addressing the media, he said the KP chief minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers were already crossing the lines, and if they crossed any further, then extreme measures might be taken. “Apparently, he’s not ready to back off from his ambitions [of storming the federal capital],” he said, in his remarks in the wake of the PTI protest.

“Evidence has also surfaced that people were asked in the chats and groups to carry weapons with them,” he said, pointing out that people of Bannu and other tribal areas were particularly asked to bring arms with them. The interior minister said the government would not let them sabotage the SCO summit, come what may.

Separately, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar claimed KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur would be facing a very tough situation in the coming days.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, he said today the whole world was appreciating the economic policies of Pakistan. He said no one would be allowed to sabotage the SCO, no one will be allowed to go near the Red Zone and no one would be allowed to sabotage the public peace.

Tarar said due to the PTI sit-in, the visit of Chinese president was delayed in the past. And now the same party was bent upon sabotaging the SCO summit. He said development of the country was not acceptable for these elements. They were worried what would happen to their statements if the country started making development. He said there were Rangers in Islamabad and the army had also arrived; the purpose of their sit-in was to carry out another May 9.

Meanwhile, intense clashes broke out between the police and PTI activists on Saturday when convoys of protesters, led by Ali Amin Gandapur, attempted to reach the D-Chowk. Demonstrations flared up at various points across the capital, including China Chowk, Jinnah Avenue, Blue Area, Faizabad, and E-11, 26 Number Chungi as PTI workers faced roadblocks and heavy security measures designed to halt their progress.

The situation quickly escalated into violence, with the PTI supporters throwing stones at police, while law-enforcers responding with rubber bullets and teargas. Multiple arrests were made as security forces struggled to control the crowds.

Tension flare up at the Jinnah Avenue near the China Chowk, when police fired tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the protesters, who nevertheless advanced towards the D-Chowk. Reports from the police indicated that some PTI supporters employed slingshots to hurl stones at officers. As demonstrators approached the China Chowk, they were met with a heavy barrage of tear gas, temporarily forcing them back. In the chaos, protesters set fire to trees and destroyed fences, further escalating the situation.

With the situation growing increasingly volatile, Rangers were called in to secure D-Chowk, where they successfully managed to disperse the protesters after a prolonged standoff.

In a separate incident, PTI workers, led by Gandapur, faced intense tear gas shelling by Punjab police near Thatta Khalil in Taxila. Protesters retaliated by throwing stones and returning tear gas canisters at the police. Despite the heavy resistance, the protesters broke through barriers and proceeded toward Islamabad.

Around Chungi No26, demonstrators set a crane and a motorcycle on fire. By 4:15pm, Gandapur and his convoy entered Islamabad through E-11, passing through Sangjani. The convoy later reached the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House, where a heavy contingent of Islamabad police and Rangers arrived and cordoned off the KP House. The security forces entered the building, and rumours spread that Ali Amin Gandapur had been taken into custody. The PTI claimed that Gandapur was arrested from the house; however, Islamabad police denied these reports, sparking confusion.

Conflicting reports of Gandapur’s detention kept making rounds in the media, whereas central party leader and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan claimed Gandapur had been arrested.

“CM Ali Amin Khan Gandapur arrested illegally from KP House Islamabad. Rangers and Islamabad Police have breached the territory of KP and have executed an illegal arrest,” he said in a message on his social media account. He also wrote, “CM Ali Amin Khan has been granted bail by the Peshawar High Court. He is part of the ‘state’ as defined in the Constitution. Rangers, Police and armed forces are tools of the ‘state’. Has martial law been imposed in Pakistan? This action will be the death knell for this Form 47 government,” he claimed.

However, his detention was not confirmed by the official sources.

Earlier, KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur said on Saturday they had reached Islamabad and recorded their protest, and they would now seek guideline from the party founder on future strategy. In a brief chat with the media before leaving for the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa House, he said heavy firing was started on them on their way to Islamabad while “they accuse us that we are not a peaceful party; we have proved that we are a peaceful party”.

However, he said: “Our authority lies with the party founder [Imran Khan].”

Barrister Saif, meanwhile, said Mohsin Naqvi was levelling baseless allegations of participation by Afghan nationals in the PTI protest. “No idea, so far about his whereabouts and what will the leadership decide about those who have braved tough time to reach here,” was the terse reply of a senior PTI leader, when asked on telephone about Gandapur’s fate and strategy regarding the party workers present in the federal capital.

In Rawalpindi, the police remained on high alert throughout the day. Around 8pm, some roadblocks were temporarily lifted, but shortly after, orders were issued to re-block the roads, and police once again sealed off the routes.

Meanwhile, PTI founder chairman Imran Khan praised his party activists for staging a powerful protest. “I am so proud of all our people,” said a message from Imran Khan posted on social media site X on Saturday afternoon. “You showed unfaltering resilience and courage as you came out yesterday and overcame unbelievable obstacles,” he added.

The Amnesty International said the communication cuts and road blockades “infringe on people’s right to freedom of expression, access to information, peaceful assembly and movement”. “These restrictions are part of a worrying clampdown on the right to protest in Pakistan,” the rights group said.

Separately, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) demanded the government must show restraint and refrain from its continued disproportionate response to the PTI protesters in and around Islamabad and Punjab. The suspension of mobile-phone and data services, road blockades and connectivity slowdowns over the last two days had caused inconvenience and distress, particularly for people whose access to health services and livelihoods depended on their freedom of movement. “We strongly urge the government to hold a dialogue in good faith with the political opposition and resolve their differences peacefully and by consensus. For their part, the PTI must be open to political negotiations if the political temperature is to be dialed down for the good of all citizens,” a statement said.

Meanwhile, over 1,000 Sindh Police personnel, sent by Sindh government to Islamabad to help the forces maintain peace, reached Rawalpindi late Saturday when the protest had practically ended in twin cities. A special train comprising 16 coaches full of police personnel reached Rawalpindi late in the evening. The special train left Karachi Cantt Station for Rawalpindi at 1:45 pm on Friday. Police personnel from Police Training Centre, Saeedabad, and other police centres of Sindh were sent to Islamabad. Police personnel from Khairpur and Sukkur were also made to board the special train.

Like in Islamabad, a large number of PTI workers took to the streets in Lahore on Saturday and staged a protest against the detention of party founder Imran Khan. At least 50 activists and two leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf were arrested during the daylong violent protests in the provincial metropolis.

The opposition leader in Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmed Khan Bhachar, and PTI leader Musarrat Jamshed Cheema were among those arrested on Saturday. Bhachar was arrested near the railway station, while the woman leader was arrested at the Pakistan Azadi Chowk flyover. The police detained three women, including Musarrat Jamshed Cheema. In addition, five activists were detained from the same place for shouting slogans.

Heavy teargas shelling was seen throughout the day. The police fired teargas shells to disperse the PTI workers, who were not allowed to reach Minar-e-Pakistan. The PTI supporters, including the majority of youth, were seen clashing with the police and chanting slogans in support of Imran Khan. However, in the wee hours of Sunday, all entry-exit points of the city were opened for traffic, the CTO said.

So PTI protest still ongoing though has lost its sheen, whereas the protest leader CM KPK is abducted and held hostage only to call off protest, surely this is a new low in country's history ain't this treason against state that a chief executive goes missing due to enf. agencies

Islamabad policeman passes away after being injured in weekend clashes: police

An Islamabad policeman passed away in a hospital on Sunday after being injured during protests in the capital the day before, police said.

In a statement posted on X, Islamabad police said that “miscreants kept torturing Shah after abducting him.”

According to the statement, he was posted at Chungi No 26 for law and order duty.

It further added that he was part of the Investigations Wing, and was a resident of Abbottabad. He joined the police force in 1988.

“He was due to retire in three months after completing his police service,” the statement said.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident and expressed his sympathies over Shah’s death “at the hands of PTI protesters”.

“PTI has always adopted a path of violence under the guise of protest,” a statement posted by the prime minister’s digital media account said on X.

“This same political party has attacked the government building and broken the gates of Parliament House in the past,” the statement said.

The premier directed that “those involved in the incident” be brought to justice.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also expressed his condolences to the family of Shah.

He instructed the inspector general of police (IG) Islamabad to arrest the miscreants who tortured Hameed, according to a statement on X by the Ministry of Interior.

“We stand with the family in their hour of grief,” the statement said, adding that the family of the martyred will be looked after.

On Saturday, clashes between PTI supporters and the police turned violent in Islamabad, similar to scenes from a day earlier where contingents of the Pakistan Army were deployed to assume security duties ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

Naqvi had warned of strict action in the coming days against PTI protesters, saying the police had evidence of live firing. He added that a total of 564 individuals were arrested, including 120 Afghans and 11 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police personnel.

The interior minister said he had ordered a high-level inquiry into how a provincial police force was involved in the protests and “attacked [other] police officers”, adding that “this has happened for the first time in Pakistan”.

He said 31 Islamabad police and 75 Punjab police personnel were injured but had not opened fire on the protesters in line with the government’s policy to avoid loss of lives.

According to state-run PTV, soldiers were deployed to make security arrangements in the federal capital “fool-proof”.

An earlier statement issued by PTV said army troops were actively patrolling the city to deal with any emergency. “The army has also been given clear and unambiguous rules of engagement. No miscreants will be allowed to disrupt law and order,” the statement said.

PTI supporters had flocked to D-Chowk as heavy rain in Islamabad dampened the effect of tear gas shelling by the police.

A Dawn.com correspondent present at the scene said PTI protesters occupied D-Chowk as police were forced back after smoke from the shot tear gas shells flowed back over to the law enforcement personnel due to the strong gusty winds.

PTI also shared footage of its supporters thronging D-Chowk.
