Shan Masood kept things clear: no overthinking, no panic. Just a solid plan to take 20 wickets and let the bowlers do their job. He didn’t chase quick runs or flashy declarations—he backed discipline, trusted his spinners, and gave Shaheen the right spells at the right time.

That Last spell from Shaheen was outclass.

He is likely to improve this record after the second test a bit more. I think he is a good option to captain the Test side at the moment.
 
Pitch is not responding and we can see Shan struggling here.... his field placements have been defensive...

He will also most likely fail with the bat in the 2nd innings as he has already done enough in the series to secure his own spot for the next series.

Yes.. People jumping on his few runs because he scored more than babar I think
 
Cannot be captain with such a batting form... once in a blue moon performer and now he is a walking wicket again...

Complete mis-fit as captain. Taken the team to No.8 and absolutely clueless when the script is not followed. Needless to say cannot bat under pressure.
 
He’s mostly fine, but when he mucks up he mucks up big. Remember being impressed with his captaincy at times, looks proactive. Then he loses his head under pressure. Bangladesh declaration just silly. Taking the new ball early didn’t make sense.

We could lose this test despite the good work most of the match down to this change to new ball decision and these tailenders getting near centuries.

• S Africa 235/8 in the first innings, second test match, he has allowed them to recover and post 403 runs which has effectively sealed the game for Pakistan.

This guy is all talk about aggressive modern cricket, under pressure he crumbles like a kitten. The results above testify to his pathetic defensive captaincy. Only Pakistan rewards non performers and appoints clueless people as captain.

Since the BD loss, we’ve been unbeaten at home regardless of the result in this Test, also, did you hit head against the wall ? As captain he beat England, you may have mixed him up with Babar who embarrassed us as captain in our back yard.
 
In difficult situations he just loses his head.

His bowling changes and field placings against tailenders in this second test vs SA were very poor

So much for his education, it's pointless if he can't apply it to help him deal with pressure situations. He's not really much of an upgrade over Paindu Babar as captain
 
Babar Azam captained Pakistan for twenty test matches, won ten and lost 6. How does Shan Masoods record stand in comparison?
 
He started off brightly but seems less confident now.

Already in his short captaincy career he has played with 3-4 coaches.

Captain need some consistency to flourish.

A coach can't help a captain whose natural instincts are defensive, scared of loosing and too panic when challenged by the opposition. Two years and 13 test matches are enough sample size to show he will lose 90% of the games he leads with his defensive captaincy.

He is a defensive player and captain for sure but had been further hamstrung by external factors.

Honestly he did look quite attacking in his first series but has dipped a lot. He doesn't have any confidence in himself or his bowlers and reliance on ultra old spinners has killed any little spark of ingenuity that he had
 
If not Shan who should be captain?

Enough musical chairs. He's been ok, it's our batsmen who've let us down in the recent past.

Babar: out of form
Openers: rubbish
Saud: inconsistent
Rizwan and Salman: often the savours.
Tail: rarely wags
