Prime Minister Imran Khan has left Islamabad for a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) — his first foreign tour as prime minister.

The premier is accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Information Minister Fawad Hussain and the prime minister's adviser on commerce, Abdul Razak Dawood.

During his visit on the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, PM Khan will hold meetings with the king and the crown prince.

The Saudi king will host a state banquet for the prime minister at the Royal Court.

Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen will also hold a meeting with the premier. Accompanying ministers will meet their counterparts and discuss bilateral cooperation.

The prime minister will also perform Umra and visit Madinah to pay his respects.

On Wednesday, the prime minister and his delegation will travel to the UAE where they will be received by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two will discuss issues of mutual interest.

We all know how much 'respect' Nawaz was given in 2017 Riyadh summit.

What bootlicking are you talking about? Nawaz Sharif was never respected the way you are saying

Imran and boot-licking haa....Even his worst enemies would choose not to describe him as such. The master of boot licking resides in Adiala Jail who perfected this art in his political career spanning roughly 3 decades.

Back to the subject, I was thinking his first visit would be China but I guess the way the debt situation is right now, it makes sense. Begging bowl can not be broken as of now. We will need to wait a few years to judge his stance on begging bowl free almost bankrupt Pakistan.

Is he traveling on a camel? Or has he not been able to uphold the austerity showbaazi on this journey? Getting conflicting reports on the media.

He's travelling to two countries in a space of two days including many meetings with different royals, officials, groups, which is something I thought not possible given the extremely narrow timeline. I don't get your point about the camel as it is supposed to be slower than jets, helicopters etc from all the data we have gathered so far. You just come across like a petty individual in search for attention, although even my 16 year old daughter who yearns a LOT of attention would not stoop to such lows.

So the reports of him traveling to KSA like a king are true - thank you for the confirmation. Not interested in the word salad.

He's travelling on a Pakistan airforce jet assigned for VIP duties. Unlike our previous PM he has not comandeered a whole PIA passenger aircraft filled with his friends, families and cronies.

perhaps you could suggest a alternative mode of transport? Your constant jibes are becoming tiresome..

He is no king, but he is a leader of country. Even with the helicopter fiasco, my issue was with the lies of Fawad Chaudhry and not with IK using the helicopter. It unrealistic to think that Imran Khan would travel on foot to Saudi Arabia or any other country in the vicinity. The criticism is unmerited.

Good stuff coming out of this trip. Hoping saudis or UAE invest in cpec but I’m not sure what would be in it for them.
Still it is good to see Pakistan play both sides rather than invest totally in China

Saudi Arabia invited to become third strategic partner in CPEC: Fawad Chaudhry

Saudi Arabia is the first major country Pakistan has formally invited to become a partner in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects, Minister of Information Fawad Chaudhry said on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad regarding Prime Minister Imran Khan's two-day visit to Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE), Chaudhry said that Pakistan's main interest lies in cooperation with Saudi Arabia on matters of trade and security.

"A high-level coordination committee has has been constituted [to look into matters of trade and commerce] and it has the complete backing of the Saudi King, His Highness Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, as well as the Crown Prince [Mohammad bin Salman] and PM Khan," Fawad Chaudhry said.

The information minister announced that high-level delegations from Saudi Arabia and UAE will visit Pakistan to discuss trade and security in October.

The Saudi ministers of treasury and power as well as business leaders will be in the delegation. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will finalise an important economic partnership during this visit, the information minister said.

He said that Saudi Arabia is the first country that Pakistan has invited to become a third partner in CPEC, and the projects that Saudi Arabia will be investing in will be worked out during the Saudi delegation's visit, scheduled for the first week of October.

"We expect major investments from Saudi Arabia," he said.

"Our strategic cooperation has been revitalised. We have assured the Saudi leadership that we will continue to provide security to their country and provide strategic support wherever needed," Chaudhry said.

The information minister said that in Abu Dhabi, the Pakistani delegation was received by Crown Prince Muhammad bin Zayed. Matters of mutual interest were discussed in detail during the meeting," Chaudhry said.

"I should mention here that the relations between Pakistan and UAE and Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had been frosty for the past few years, and this visit changed that," the information minister said.

He added that the complications in the procurement of UAE visas and other matters will be resolved soon as the matters had come under discussion during the visit.

"The foreign office will soon send a proposal to UAE and it is expected that these issues will be resolved for the thousands of Pakistanis that are dwelling in the Emirates," Chaudhry assured.

The information minister said that UAE would also help Pakistan in many projects, including the provision of fresh water to Karachi. "Delegations from UAE will come to Pakistan in October to discuss these matters," he said.

"It is important to mention here that His Highness Muhammad bin Zayed has a great standing in GCC and Saudi Arabia, and his support will go a long way for Pakistan," Chaudhry said.
