PML-N govt has given away Rs 11bn to Pakistani media in 3 years, unprecedented in country’s history.

PMLN government has given more than Rs11 billions of taxpayers’ money to different Pakistani media houses apparently to run its advertisements of various projects.

The federal information and broadcast ministry revealed this in a report submitted to the Senate. A copy of it is available with Outlook Pakistan.

The report revealed that PMLN government had spent more than Rs 11bn for ‘marketing’ and advertisement of its projects.

Top among the receivers are Geo/Jang group and Dunya media group.

From the year 2013 to 2016, more than Rs 8bn were given to the print media while Rs 3bn were doled out to electronic media by the PMLN government.

The amount spent on electronic media advertisements for the year 2013-14 was Rs 1.4 bn, for the year 2014-15 it was Rs 2.2bn, for the year 2015-16 it was Rs 2.8bn from July 2016- December 2016 it was Rs 1.6bn making a total of Rs 8.1bn.

The money given to electronic media in the year 2013-14 was Rs 40.5mn. In the year 2014-15 it was Rs 93.1mn, in the year 2015-16 it was Rs 2.2bn making it a total of more than Rs 3bn.

Paying money to the media houses as the advertisement expense is another form of political bribe that bars the media persons to bring into limelight the facts that could be hostile to concerning parties.

PMLN already enjoys the reputation of being a political party habitual of using the bribe to influence the media houses and journalists for making them speak in its favor.

As the election season is approaching ruling party is coming with more lucrative slogans for pseudo developmental projects. Now, to carry on the tradition of advertising the spoken but never done deeds, it would spend more money from its treasury. Our people should be ready to hear the government’s endless praise from the Pakistani media outlets on their personal expense.

PML-N government has always failed in setting its priorities right when it comes to developmental projects. Even the billions spent on Metro, and infrastructural projects seem to go in vain as health and education sector are suffering badly due to a shortage of funds. If the hefty amount of 11bn Rs were not spent on creating the words of mouth for the government’s favor and allocated to the health sector, then sick patients who died on the cold floor of hospitals would have been able to take better treatment.

The kitchen cabinet of the premier which comprises Khawaja Asif, Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Saad Rafique and Pervaiz Rashid has reportedly approved huge spending on media. – Outlook Pakistan.com.

Independent journalism by Geo and Dunya to take so much money from the government Mashallah.

Seriously Sharifs are BAD but it is their supporters and such media groups who are worst.

I hope GEO News gets shut down by some future government, it is a farce in the name of journalism

During different phases of a project, it's a legal requirements to advertise it, so to have transparency.

The ads we see for different tenders etc, just one such case. And we see several those everyday.

Tenders on electronic media? I hope you have seen all those regular half pages ads on front pages of major newspapers and also full pages ads by PMLN. Let me post some examples here from print and electronic media. These 11+ billions were spent by Federal goverment alone.

Here is a TV Ad that was run on almost every channel by PMLN to influence the supreme court on Panama case.

Though, I do not personally approve, but I think , a case can be made that ads about health card and deaungi fever are okish. (think about Obamacare, the guy put his own name in it.)

It would be interesting, if you tell me that pti KPK govt is not taking political milage from similar ads.
If this is the case, then it's a fair objection to pmln ads,.

No problem with the deaungi one that was create awareness and i am ok with it and that was from Punjab govt. I was talking about the big one from federal govt just above deaungi ad and also the tv ads to influence court.

And yes PTI also started following the path of Punjab/Sindh and Federal govt by starting these ad campaigns to showcase their projects although at a very low level but still it's wrong and i am not in favor of it (they should have stick to their old way of promoting through social media instead of wasting public money on media even if it's at a very low level compared to federal, punjab/sindh)

Totally agree with you about the clip. It is just an election campaign ad.

I think pti should file a case against NS and information minister. (At least, PMLN would be on backfoot)

First Dawn and now Geo looks like they are unable to pay salaries to their workers since new Govt stopped giving all those ads worth of billion rupees every year to the media. This is one of the major reason of them barking at Govt 24/7 and they will sing praises if this Govt start giving them ads.

Maybe Maryam can help

She and her media cell only help the anchors and columnists because these behind the scene workers can't help.

The copy and paste merchant, kacks his pants when these threads start. The billions to buy the media to hide the 24 trillion has been exposed

This is an old thread from 2017 otherwise the actual number of ads money thrown is bigger thn this. Govt recently published the list of beneficiary newspapers and channels and there were newspapers names that don't even exist on ground...

But the govt needs to prosecute, rather just talk. I saw the recent revelations and I want to see prosecutions.

True let them shout jamhuryat ko khatra and all the ** it's govt job to clean the mess

Slowly but surely the sandcastles are collapsing, the tsunami Imran Khan promised is upon them and there's nothing they can do. Only an absolute imbecile, and we have a few on this forum, would deny that these media houses, these so called paragons of virtue, be it GEO, be it Dawn, were not accepting advertisement to become mouth pieces for the party of the father of changa manga politics. The problem with not paying your employees and depending on a rich sugarmill daddy's tax cheat money to pay it is eventually when someone spills the tea, sugar daddies money dissolves, then you've gotta pay it out of their own pockets, and what we know about rich corrupt folk is 1) they hate to be parted with their money and 2) feel the common worker owes them, so good luck to these getting anything these crooks owe them. Maybe next time don't work for propoganda houses.

But seriously what utter rats these media bosses people are. The only thing worse than them is the schooled dirtbags who support them. Despicable cretins from disguting corrupt families full of leaches who feel the state and the common folk of the country owe them their bread.
