In hindsight we all find many excuses and reasons for the defeats. I know some people got carried away by having Malik as skipper. Whereas he was good as a captain in one of the ODIs he was quite poor in both T20s. Here are some points I noticed:

1) In the first match he opned the bowling. Why? Gave away 12 runs.

2) In the second match he opted to bowl first and kept talking about rain. Who cares about that in a T20 mach? I am fine with batting second but the explanation was a bit strange. Had it been an ODI I would have understood it.

3) Again in the second match when the ball was turning sharply, and he himself does turn the ball quite a bit, he could have bowled a couple of overs in the middle with Imad and saved us for Shinwari massacre.

4) when the fast bowlers were getting hammered why didn’t he tell them to bowl cutters etc, instead Shinwari and Hassan kept bowling fast and hald trackers

5) You as a captain and coach really must be stupid if you don’t find a place for Aamir in this team. He would never have gone for over 35 runs in 4 overs against these batsmen. I know he is not picking wickets but in T20s dot balls can be gold. I am sure he will play last match now, but that is a bit too late.

Can’t agree more. More passive as a captain and doesn’t speak to his bowlers when they are finding it right.

Missed sarfraz shoutings big time he would have constantly been on their ears for poor bowling.

We always confuse formats, Amir is not bowling great in ODIs but he has been our best bowler in Tests outside UAE and any where in T20Is. His stats in T20I speak for themselves, he was MOS in NZ but he was sitting out so we could lose this series by playing Shinwari and Hasan.

Pakpassion members needed this. Sarfraz needed this.

I guess we all now know who will be the captain till the WC at the least.

Exactly, even Mickey Arthur confuses formats not only posters.

While I agree we need Sarfaraz till world cup but more than that we need a young passionate leader for future which is yet to be seen.

Not appointing a deputy to Sarfraz and not trying a young captain for T20s against SA was questionable. But, the answer is to avoid groupings within the team and we have seen many of those over the years.

After one ODI win Malik was hailed as the new Clive Lloyd on here with folks were insistent on him captaining at the World Cup.

My issue with Malik is whether he even merits a place in the team, but yes his captaincy has been iffy.

I agree with this. Sadly people will use Sarfaraz as an excuse for the 2 defeats. We were in a position in both games to chase the score. The captaincy from Malik has not been great , he could have done better. But we still should have won the games.

Malik giving 1st over to himself in last match and today giving an over to Fakhar (when SA were 10 overs 60-1) was the reason we lost both matches.

But thats what our fans love. Image, personality etc etc. Malik tried to play for the galleries with his smart (read foolish) moves but both his moves backfired. He was hailed as 'the best captain' and a savior after 4th odi, what happened then? So who is our new savior now? Shan or Hafeez. Wont be long before that bubble will be burst too.

Btw lately Sarfraz has started playing to the galleries too. 5 twitter posts in few days while in past it used to take him 5 months for 5 posts. Not liking this new playing to the galleries thing one bit.

Sarfraz, Malik, Hafeez.

All three do not/barely merit a place in the team and contribute in only one facet, if anything. All 3 would more or less make specialist captains. And, finally, all 3 are going NOWHERE and will play the WC.

PakPassion, please take this in once and for all.

Some will say make Hafeez captain. Problems with that are:

1. He hasn't said clearly that he's retiring after the WC, and so he could linger on even after and continue to haunt us for longer, unlike Malik who, regardless of if he captains or not, will leave. Sarfraz may not leave post WC either, but his competition is Rizwan who is not setting the world alight either (albeit with the limited chances he has been given), so him lingering on atleast as a player will be less costly compared to Hafeez, who can easily be replaced by a superior, long-term player such as a Haris/Saud/Saad/Talat.

2. Hafeez and getting caught for chucking at crucial moments - better love story than twilight. With someone who has a history of something like that, it's risky giving them such responsibility.

Malik isn't performing as well as he should with the bat. Captaincy has its ups and downs.

Sarfraz obviously has his own performance issues/losing the dressing room/racist remarks.

It's all a bit confusing. But whoever leads out of these three will not be ideal and we have no choice now but to accept it.

Post WC I can see an Imad/Fakhar taking over maybe, but not right now.

Poor is very lenient because he was absolutely trash.

So many errors and when the bowlers are getting clubbed, he is nowhere to be seen and seems way too passive.

KK dumped him halfway for a reason.

Sarfraz will be captain at the world cup. Malik has done nothing to prove a new captain will add anything to this outfit. I see the captain's debate as moot.

Look Malik is awful. One ODI fluke didn’t change anything for me.

Here’s the truth.
It’s 2019....

Yes 2019....

The name “Shoaib Malik” should be no where near the team sheet let alone with a (c) next to it.

Every stupid decision aside i still can't forgive him for giving Shinwari the last over

Not promoting Imad at 4 was a bad call for me. Think Imad was sent too late.

Maliks captaincy was poor. But that said the team combination was all wrong in the first place which meant he had no option but to rely on shinwari who is a liability. I think we need to look to world cup and sarfraz is best option as captain. Perhaps our players need a sarfraz constantly shouting and guiding them. Hassan ali particularly seems wayward these days. Our combination for world cup should be clear now though. Top 3 is set. Number 4 should be shan masood as he is much improved ( i was never a fan before but he has shown hard work and application can show results). Hafeez and malik at 5 and 6. Sarfraz at 7. Any higher is too high for him. Shadab 8. Followed by amir, hassan, afridi. Junaid on sidelines if amit continues slide. I honestly think in england with duke bowl our bowlers are skillful
And will be fine. We need batsman. Malik amd hafeez have to bowl or ther places must be at risk! Doubt we will go for this combination but heres hoping!

and what about Imad?

The OP missed that Shadab should have bowled his 4 overs.

He does not warrant a place in Pakistan side and people see him as a captain.

I also would have sent Imad at 4, but Asif Ali was not a bad decision either. He had enough time to get set and start smashing the ball but he was absolute trash today

This is a futile discussion. People as usual are ignoring the elephant in the room - we are simply not good enough.

If you want to see the real worth of Sarfraz's T20I captaincy, give him a series against the best T20I team in the world (India) and you will have your answer. Unfortunately, it is not going to happen any time soon due to obvious reasons.

Had the Asia Cup not happened, people would still be milking the Champions Trophy. Similarly, this T20 drama will continue because BCCI is not bothered to play with us.

Add to the fact that Shadab did not complete his quota on a wicket which was turning. Had he bowled his full overs, there was no need for the last over by Shinwari. Poor maneuvering of the bowlers. He saved Shinwari who has no variety against a red hot Miller. Even Rameez predicted in the commentary before the over that this is going to be a disaster.
