Prediction: Bangladesh team in top 4 or 5 LOI in 10 years time

I'd say BD will be up there with India/Australia in ODI cricket by 2023. SA are declining, PAK havevni talent coming through, ENG are always hit and miss in ODIs. Its certainly a very strong possibility.
 
We are top 5 now - forget the rankings, they will improve with time.

Aus, India are the only 2 sides I dont think we can beat regularly.

WI, Lanka, Pakistan, Zimbabwe we are much better than.

Saffers are 50/50. England also 50/50.

BD are quite crazy about football. There are a lot of fans in Bangladesh who love football more and a lot of players as well.

However, international cricket has taken BD has found real form.

Wow, great post. U certainly r a very knowledgeable poster who knows what he's talking about.

Lots of posters laughed at ur prediction back then. To be a little bit fair to them I think even Bangladeshis themselves didn't believe they would become such a great LOI team in such a short span of time.


If they continue to perform the way they have been doing so far then they might not even need 10 years to break into top 5 of ICC odi ranking :srini

Point difference between Bangla and England is minimal. Even Srilanka isn't that far away.There is no doubt that Bangla will soon overtake England and Sri-lanka in odis. That's a fact :yk2

It's true that they aren't that good in t20s but still way better than all the other Asian teams apart from India :yk

Yet they have recently fallen below Afghanistan in the T20 rankings. :))) :)))

That's because they used to play very few t20s in the past. But now they have taken it seriously too and their recent asia cup performance have shown that they have all the potential to become a great t20 side too :srini

At best,Bangladesh can only be better than srilanka and probably England in ODIs, in coming years. Nothing more than that

BTW I believe you are from Bengal, you support KKR if i am not wrong, and hence have a 'soft spot' for bangladesh cricket which is quite evident from your post.

Bangladesh U19 beat SA U19 5-2 in south Africa just after the win of 6-1 in home...check again
 
Yes they are playing well and unless all their bowlers end up being banned for chucking ,they can do it.
 
Bangladesh reach 6th place in the ODI rankings. Looks like [MENTION=135134]CricketAnalyst[/MENTION] was spot on only his timeframe was a little off.
 
Being 6 is easy but being better than one of the following:

Australia
SA
India
NZ
England

Is a tough ask. I think realistically we can topple NZ in 5-6 years or even less

we'd beat NZ at home and they'd beat us on the road...but we actually competed for large portions of the match in NZ despite not playing away in over 2 years.

the only thing holding the current BD team back from our true potential is lack of opportunities.
 
It's possible to reach WC 2019 from 5th spot, because I think Kiwis are going to drop down. They'll play several ODI against PAK, who are far lower in ranking than the actual ability of the team, which means Kiwi's should lose most of those matches & PAK being at 8th, it'll cost them big time. Also, they are scheduled to tour SRL & BD in next 2 years, which should cost them good points as well.

But, breaking into top 4 will be difficult. Also, PAK comes into that equation now - if somehow, PCB can manage MoHa, Wahab, Azhar, Ahmed out of ODI team permanently, almost certainly PAK & BD'll fight for the 5th spot in 2 years time.

I wish but with our pathetic selector it won't happen. We will recycle the same garbage again and again.

I have to say though, I was impressed by BD today. At 160/4 I thought they'd collapse, but a good show of grit and determination. Mortaza is 34 now almost, if BD can find one good pacer they can be very good not only in ODIs but also in Tests. This NZ team, even with poorer bowling, is no pushover and chasing a good total is always hard but BD did it easily in the end.
 
IIRC, we first reached #8 in 2010, then again in 2011 and 2013...only to lose our spot.

2015 we jumped to 7th and held the spot...finally 6th now.

i remember when Bangladesh were 11th out of 10 (associate Kenya ahead of us) and 0 points in both Tests and ODIs.

PAK team plays at most 75% of it's potential because of the pathetic selection. It was even worse under Waquar & Misbah/Azhar, but at least now I see lots of improvement in "on-field" tactics. Arthur/Sarfu's PAK at least won't allow Kiwis to post 280+ from 99/6.

This recent replacement actually exposes Inzi & his gong - if Haris is fit for CT as a replacement, then he should have been called at first time - his success in PAK Cup was before the team was announced. Same goes for Amin, in case if he was selected - and, both are left-hander & both middle order batsman. Inzi has picked a team that has 4 openers & 5 players who has very little utility below 3, may be only MoHa can be effective at 4 - only Umar was a middle order, & he failed fitness test :( I actually don't think that Inzi bothered to watch PAK cup, or he had any inputs from it - his team was selected long back; otherwise absolutely no reason not to consider Yamin for a Tournament in UK, in June.

...and the fact that BD dont have the likes of Mitchell Starc, Trent Boult, or even a Tim Southee.

i think Boult and Southee are quite overrated in ODIs...especially Southee. apart from the 2015 world cup where even Mohit Sharma was a star, they are going on their Test match credentials IMO. NZ have a dynamic batting lineup and aggressive leadership under KW.

statistically speaking, Bangladesh has the most effective bowling attack since the 2015 world cup.

home/away we'd trade whitewashes with NZ...and should still be better than PAK...who apart from Babar would make our playing XI?

Bangladesh is slightly better than park. And our rankings attest to that. We are sixth Pakistan are eigth.

And not just that. We have an exciting batting lineup and pretty good bowling unit

If we can go to the semi of CT ,can we climb to number 5 if one of those win is against England?
 
They surely are on the Right track. A much improved team in recent times.

Pak's first practice match this CT17 agains tax Bangladesh would most probably indicate this
 
If Bangladesh loses all 3 CT games (quite likely) and Sri Lanka beats Pakistan (25% chance), SL should regain #6 pushing Bangladesh back down to 7 and Pakistan stays at 8.

WI almost guaranteed to miss direct WC qualification now unless they whitewash England (not happening) and Afghanistan.

Bangladesh has a realistic chance of beating New Zealand in group stage.To beat England and Australia on England's soil Bangladesh has to play out of their skin.The inexperience of playing in England will definitely come into play.Bangladesh did beat England in World cup, but this England team on their own soil is a beast and they are the top most favorite team to win this CT in my opinion.If Bangladesh is able to move into the semi stage it will be the biggest achievement in our ODI history.

They have a five match ODI series against India too, India can deliberately lose in order to leave out Pakistan.
 
Bangladesh is a solid team now. They have equal chances of winning a one day tournament as anyother team playing.

I have a feeling that,in another 5-10 years ahead,with experience of touring foreign soil,Bangladesh would do better than any Asian country in overseas tours. I think our new crop of players have those type of batting styles to do well in overseas conditions(SA,Aus,NZ,Eng). They just need those experience of playing on those conditions.

Even three years back in 2014 if someone here had said that Bangladesh would rank 6th in the World by 2017 they would have been laughed off to oblivion, nothing is for certain in cricket. Rankings change, teams change
 
maybe they can hit top 5 need to compete better in away series against big boys like England SA Aus NZ India consistently to be considered a top 5 team.

Have Bangladesh won an away LOI series against a top 6 side.
